Sure makes flashing custom roms much less a pain in the ass. Also this 1 click root tool works flawlessly on a fresh install of gb. http://www.psouza4.com/Bionic/
Checked out the latest MIUI rom for the d2, found it over at rootzwiki. Can't say i was all that impressed by it. Seems to me to be a bad iphone wanna be rom. I gave it about a day and flashed back to froyo. Tried to flash cyanogens latest 139 build but it didn't wanna happen, so i just returned my phone to froyo.
Kinda sucks working with custom roms on the d2, due to the locked bootloader.

13th angel is working on CyanogenMod 9 [BETA] (D2) it is getting close depends on what you need to work
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-2-roms/199227-cyanogenmod-9-beta-d2.html

I tried miui 2.2.10 and it just seemed to be way to buggy for me. No keyboard lights, i know there's a fix for that. But still its something so small it makes me wonder what else didn't work. The camera seemed to work correctly. It just seemed like it was a FC nightmare. Apps either were slow to open or didn't open at all. And i'm talking about simple things like the dialer.
I do still intend to install Cyanogen just to check it out.

2.2.10 is running without issue for me. The keyboard lights thing is minor, so if that turns you off of a a Rom I'd say it's likely nothing will please you because CM has issues of its own. Regardless, both are great Roms with tons of options you won't get from stock.. Considering how laggy and buggy stock GB is I'm not sure what there is to complain about, but to each his own.

2.2.10 is running great for me to. Tried CM9 and it runs well but no camera is a drawback.

Yeah i decided to give miui (2.2.10) another try and yes it seems to be pretty solid. I was surprised to see pretty much 99% of my froyo apps work as is, without upgrading. The ones that didn't i simply upgraded and they work. What i think happened before was i just didn't get a clean install for whatever reason and it made things super glitchy. Like i said the dailer barely worked at all in the last install, but on this one i haven't had it fc yet so im thinking it was a install problem. Other things also work that didn't before like volume+. Its a nice rom once you tailor it to you're liking. All in all i get around the same battery life as i did with froyo. Which is around 2 and a half hours gaming, 10 hours normal use. I used to use green power and that would increase my battery standby to like 15-16 hours. Anyone know of any tips with miui? People have reported getting like 40 hours? I realize not all batteries are created equal obviously but whats the average you guys are seeing?

Extended battery--real Moto, not seidio or any of those--leaves me around 60% battery at the end of every day. I turn syncing off with power control, use auto brightness which is way better on MIUI than it ever was on Froyo or GB, and get rid of any apps that decide that they can run as often as they like.

Everyone seems to report okay with it...but with drod2169 doing so much with 2.2.1 already I'm gonna stick with that. Also I am testing his new beta and ROM bootstraps automatically on every boot and more coolness to come so I will stick with rubiX focused for now
Is non-oem battery behavior any different???
With the FROYO update, the Droid X no longer recognized aftermarket batteries for whatever reason. Could someone who has flashed this update check and see if aftermarket batteries are recognized with it, or do we still get the '?' in the battery notification area?
Thanks
Not sure if I could live without LCD density at this point. I am gonna wait and watch developments.
so what all changes are in this? and what makes it worth jumping the ball?
If you want a changelog you will have to contact motorola. Otherwise it is supposedly just a faster build and random reboot issues fixed.
ok. well im guessing rubix would work as its same build set up? im tempted to put the leak in as it fixes some of the problems im having but not sure about not having an $BF full to revert back to, just incase i somehow f up on something. i can't afford to brick my only phone lol.
Will this work if I have Fission 2.1 installed? Or would it just delete my custom tom and bring me to a stock 2.2.1?

Okay I would say that this is probably the official OTA update that everyone is awaiting... The kernel is updated which is going to be the greatest advantage with this release...
Media Fix
Im pretty sure that the "sorry this player does not support..." has been fixed in this update... I use my DX as my primary mp3 player atleast 8 times a day and so that old bug would force me to restart 1 or 2 times daily... been running the new release for over 24 hours and I've yet to get the error (using it heavily and testing the music often aswell...)
Updated System Apps
The only thing ive noticed with these so far is a new Data usage widget built in to blur (now that we dont need unlimited data plans...)
Also the dialer now displays the most recent dialed or missed call just above the number keys...
Battery manager Fix
So the battery manager force close seems to have been fixed... I think this was an issue with the app and not the kernel... the reason i say this is because ive been checking to see that the battery stats non stop (maybe 100 times now) in different scenarios (fresh boot, fresh unplug, etc...) and i have only gotten one force close... I was running the 2.2 NexThemed Systems apk at this point... I imediately reinstalled the 2.2.1 setting apk and without needing to restart my phone the battery stats were fixed.
This issue then would not need u to flash the new release to fix for now... you can probably temporarily fix it on the old 2.2 kernel just by running the 2.2.1 app... (maybe people running the 2.2.1 fission can confirm this...
These are the big things i have noticed so far... I can not confirm the HDMI kernel fix though because i have not yet tested it and even when I was running the old kernel I seldom used the feature and When i did it never gave me any issues...
Hope this helps and I'd be very interested to hear about anything else people have noticed!
Does that update zip also do any kernal or radio updates?

BTW I am new to DX and not new to android. Can someone also point me in the right direction to educate myself more w/SBF. I have to admit, I just don't know much (if anything) about it nor the purpose..

AOKP for Gtab AOKP | smb1002/Viewsonic G-Tablet (May 24 | Build 37 | 4.0.4)

If anybody interested in testing the AOKP port to Gtablet, the link is below. It is the AOKP forum. I tested it and I am very satisfied with it. I tested all the ICS versions from different teams but this one is the most stable and functional. Very happy with it.

I just flashed build 37 to my Gtab, and it appears to be alot faster and more fluent, than TeamDRH's latest build, (Beta 1.2) which I've been running up until now.
I appreciate their hard work, but found the relatively frequent ROM-slowdowns, to be unbearable. But considering the "no help"-policy Nvidia and Viewsonic seems to have instigated regarding the Gtab, I really do find their work amazing and a crucial step on the way in the further development for the Gtab.
I do have a few questions, which you may or may not be able to answer, however:
1) How come, when I flash gapps, Youtube doesn't appear to be installed?
2) When I search for Youtube in the Play Store, it doesn't show up.
- I'm assuming that this has something to do with the way the ROM authenticates/identifies itself to the Play Store.
- On a sidenote, a few other apps also do not show up, even when searching specifically for them. (LBE Privacy Guard among others)
- I yanked a copy of the youtube.apk from my phone, and while it's not tablet optimized, it works without any apparent problems, so it's not because it doesn't work.
3) The USB-connection, only consists of MTP or Camera-options (like the TeamDRH-ROM) and I seem to be unable to get the Gtab to present itself as a Mass Storage Device, so I might access the internal memory.
(Only way of doing this is booting to Clockworkmod and mounting the internal memory as USB-share)
I appreciate and applaud your effort in bringing AOKP to the Gtablet.
I dont know the exact answers as I just put the link here, I have nothing to do with development. I found this link by mistake and I wanted to share it with people. If you want answers, put your questions directly on the forum rootzwiki .
BTW, I do it in the same way as you (according to problems).

WOW AOKP to the GTAB
Hello just a few days ago I posted a (Q) in that forum asking if it was possible at all to develop an AOKP rom on the Gtab, then yesterday I basically found out that there was a 4th ICS rom for our devices and it was a AOKP port lol It was just crazy how that happened.
I did wonder, however, why the developer of the rom did not post it here or sdroid. thank you to OP for posting this but i'd mch rather have the developer to ask questions to bout the rom, but I guess Ill just have to head over to rootzWiki.
Anyway, this is pretty awesome that someone made this happen. I dont have AOKP on any other devices but i knew of the rom, and its awesomeness. Its a sick rom and im pretty excites. I think it may run as good if not slightly better than the other 3 ics roms, I just hope they continue to make it better with each release because it has potential.
I recommend that ppl should go check it out.
Hmmmm... might have to check this out...
Thanks for posting it. I never would have known.

installed this last night because im an aokp fan.. seems pretty good... but for me i have the same problems ive had on every ics rom for this tablet. super laggy and sounds terrible? am i the only one who has terrible sound on ics roms? ive gone back to gb every time within a day or two because of the sound.. its just crappy, low volume and distorted sound? gb rocks in comparison.. really bums me out... i keep hoping one of these ics roms will run like they do on my phone, but not even close yet.

I believe that it does not matter on ics ROMs. What is important is that your system partition be enlarged to 250MB and the easiest way to do that is to use the nvflash. See my easy guide http://raywaldo.com/2011/01/nvflash-for-dummies/

yes, its out, but there is a problem with downloading from google player. so I wait for now...
Since this is based off the kernel of DRH ans their drivers, what's the difference between the two? Is this more stable/faster? What are the benefits to this ROM over DRH?

It's The Craziest Thing

Like an intelligent flashaholic, when I first rooted my phone, waaaaaaay back over 2 years ago, the firs thing I did was make a backup of my stock/rooted setup, then saved a copy on my computer. Every few months, I'll nandroid back, update any apps that need to be, then make a new, updated Backup.
Lately, I've been having a lot of problems with my phone, trying to run Jellybean ROMS, which has been a disaster. Even ruinning Kendall's Jellybread ROM, I have some issues with lagginess, occasional Force Closes, etc.
Yesterday morning, my phone was basically not usable, and not having time to play with anything because of work, I just flashed back to my stock/rooted ROM, updated it and have been running pure stock since. The weird thing is, it's the best my phone has run. Smooth, fast, everything working (Of course this is still Froyo, but still). It's just really ugly as hell, but it's amazing how smooth everything is.
OK, time to flash a ROM.....

Hey hip, got a suggestion for your next flash.
Do your backup thing, wipe as usual, then flash rom.
Only this time before you reboot, push your log to sd. Then view it after everything is done...
Reason im saying this is mine would be fine then not...when I pulled the log fron recovery it actually showed that I had bad memory blocks an it was unable to repair/format/fix them..
Now my phone was and is usable still...but I cant flash all the roms. Only one that 100% worked was mazwoz.
So its just a thought bro, figured I'd share what I found. And without pulling the log I would have never seen it.

Lol, sometimes I forget that signature is there cuz I cant see it on Tapatalk. One of the Nocturnal guys made that for me.
Anyway, the roms would mostly flash on my phone. But some just didn't. I was testing rom for soap, tronit, an shaggy an none booted for me but worked fine for others.
Then I flashed say jmz rom an it worked fine. I started to notice that things weren't working.

Are MIUI mtz's universal or device specific?
I they are universal. I have some on my pc that i used on both the og and 3vo that my ex gf had.
FYI I dumped the preinstalled ics theme. So now any theme will install for the die hard miui user and the black ice mtz will be installed on the sdcard. The jb launcher is no longer default you can choose on boot which one you want. Now to get the ICS effect you go into settings themes and choose black ice. If you use the jb launcher you will need to go under launcher settings and reboot launcher. Now everything looks ics even the lockscreen.

[Q] New Razr M Owner

hey all, been searching through tons of reviews and support threads to make sure the razr m will be my next phone. i love everything i see. my one concern is the roms... i refuse to use stock rom.. i do see that cm has got a few releases but nothing that i see looks final yet. anyone got some good links to share, i know there has too be a few good ones out there considering some of the screenshots i see and with the amount of popularity it looks like the razr m is getting. well anyway, i would love to see some support from some of you that have been using it for awhile, thanks in advance for any advice/tips/roms you all can lead me to!
Yes ROM selection isn't overwhelming but particularly the energy ROM, at the top in development section is more than good enough for me. I got this phone after losing my galaxy s3 and it kicks ass. I actually like it better after using it a couple weeks..the battery life in by far the best compared to the 10+ other 'higher-end' android phones I've owned.

I love my Razr M, especially in regard to the excellent battery life and slim size (I think phones like the Note that can't even fit in your pocket are ridiculous). I've tried Energy rom and it was fine, but I prefer the Eclipse rom, mostly just for the look of it. I also prefer having a fourth menu softkey, I'd gotten used to that on my droid charge, very useful. I'm using the Nova launcher (highly recommended) over the Eclipse Rom and couldn't be happier. Super smooth and I've made it look exactly the way I want it to.

ha! I, too, came from the droid charge. so, battery life was key for me (as well as pocket-size). stock ROM is actually fine - granted, it likes the aesthetics of the custom ROMs, but it does just fine for me.
biggest draw back is memory storage. I would use a custom ROM, but my phone lacks sufficient space b/c I cannot transfer my apps to the external card (despite my best efforts).
I bought this phone on a kind of whim when it was on sale for 50$. I left tmobile too. I can say I have no regrets and haven't looked back since. I was a little disheartened at the lack of development too, but honestly besides a few app specific hang ups this phone doesn't NEED a rom the way my vibrant or s2 did. Everything just works. So don't be down on the lack of roms because the phone stock is still a beast.

If you like CM I would check out trippin bean ROM over at droidrzr.com by marxman. It is truly a nice ROM especially if you prefer CM over a stock based ROM. Having said that energy ROM is awesome as is eclipse which is stock based but has all aosp apps instead of the blur apps. We have noticed the lack of quantity of ROMs but the quality is what makes up for it. Welcome aboard!

great
thank you all for the responses! seems like a great community.. i checked my tracking info and i should have my razr m by tomorrow afternoon.
all the roms and root method you talk about is perfectly fine on the verizon retail version correct? i hope its not dev only.. also is the m's screen as "pixely" as what some reviews say it is? tbh i dont always have a good eye for "true" hd screen, but i do for pixels.. whats your guys thoughts on it? i am not really one to sit down and watch a full movie on my phone, but it does happen time to time..

since the resolution is 960/540 there are instances for me where i feel like the display could be a pinch cleaner but honestly (again) i have been used to the screen on the gs3. I have perfect vision and while yes pixels are sometimes noticeable, it is minor and miniscule and doesnt affect my viewing experience negatively.

memory space
so there really is no way to move apps to your ext. sd card? wont that be a huge hassle with the 4.3 gigs that it has onboard? or is that number that i found not rite?

In my experience, correct. Others have claimed to have found work around.

You can still root the retail edition. After you root, install Safestrap and you will be able to load custom ROMs. There are plenty of guides out there on the procedures, so I won't go into detail.
Personally, I didn't base the purchase of my phone purely off of development. Have you looked at the other phones out there? They all seem cheaply made and fragile. The build quality/materials and size of the M are what sold me. There is now enough development out there to keep me occupied. I ran the CM10 based Trippin' Bean for a while, but I didn't like the inconsistency of some things, so I changed over to Energy ROM. I've been on it for about three weeks. I like the theme and I like the fact that everything is 100% working.

oh i love the way the phone is built as well, thats initially what caught my eye. i thought eclipse looked more for me... u say energy is 100% working, are you implying that eclipse rom is not?
Eclipse ROM
I have bee using the Eclipse rom for about 3 weeks now and it works great. I aslo got it installed on the stock Slot with safestrap. (check the Eclipse forum for how to do it, Around page 18 or so. I have found that all components work. (have not tested tethering, but supposedly it works). I especially like the inverted gapps, and the pop up text messaging feature. Its really convenient. I have not tried the Energy rom, because the Eclipse meets my needs well. Also the battery life is fantastic, way better than the Stock. Also I am using Apex launcher pro, and love it. The 4.2 Camera and google sound search is a plus as well.
P.S. If you buy a launcher; you can use it with every rom you try! Feel free to PM if you have questions-

hey, got my razr m today got it setup (besides looks). anyway i know you said you didnt want to use a custom rom because of the lack of space. i found a long process in which you can actually just install a custom rom over the stock rom slot in safestrap. it does take awhile but you will have the same amount of space as you did on the stock, actually i think i have a little more because of all the bloatware that is gone. but ya i have read and read and tried every app on the market to try to move apps to the sd card, i dont think it is a razr m thing i think it is a jellybean thing, not sure, but after reading its definetly aint just the razr that dont have the option. anyway if you want me to go into detail on how to flash over the stock rom slot i will, or you may already know the trick, just lemme know. thanks again, and ya it really is a great phone, you all was rite.

do share, my friend - is it the same as the previous poster mentioned about the Eclipse ROM? i would like to give Energy a whirl though.
I did elsewhere that ROMs cannot be installed on the stock slot, but I might be willing to try this method. I'm already rooted with everything backed up using TiBu. my battery life is already incredible (sometimes as much as 40% when I go to sleep), so the only real advantage for me is just aesthetics.

yes, i just now went to the post he was talking about, a few people mention it on page 17 on the eclipse rom sticky post, wish i would have seen that post in the first place, ya really all you do is install it to slot 1, back that slot up, activate the stock slot and do a restore of the backup you made from slot 1 with the custom rom on it. then go back and delete the original off of slot 1. you should end up with about 4.4g of internal i believe is what it was before i added anything to it. also when you do the backup of that slot, any apps that you have installed will not be removable once you do the restore, it kinda acts like bloatware that they dont want you to remove, so make sure you like whatever you have on the original backup. also i wiped the data/cache/dalvik before and after the restore, i dunno if that makes a difference or not, and i also did this with the eclipse rom, i do not know if this will work on others or not. anyway, its a cool trick to help with the already terrible internal storage, i think i can deal with 4.4g, im not really a gamer on my phone so i dont see an issue. the eclipse rom seems much faster from stock as well, i cant really say much about the battery life because i was only stock for a few hours. good luck!

As far as I know, Eclipse is 100%. I chose Energy for the theme, but Eclipse has a few more tweaks.

It is the same method. I have yet to do this because I have plenty of space in my Slot 1.
Check this out for installing on stock:

There's one literally just a little further down the page. Use search. This will be moved and closed.

lol ... Your account should be banned.
i think there's two, and i've tried them both - but back on v5 if that helps. both can be downloaded here: http://www.miui.com/download-110.html
the first one is miui_i9505_shiro_5.5.22_297f4c9327_4.4.zip - works ok but google apps won't work & I can't get titanium to run (freezes at 'checking for sqllite'). I've tried both clean flash and dirty on top of v5. In a clean flash wifi won't enable.
the second one is miui_i9505_rainbow_5.5.22_6a27167d52_4.4.zip - everything was great with this apart from one thing, 3rd party apps can't switch on mobile data. this is shown as 4.4 kitkat so might not be linnked to the lollipop changes, but even with a rooted phone various toggles i tried & more importantly automateit couldn't enable mobile data (it can disable no problem).
so for me, one has wifi probs, the other data toggle probs. both deal breakers so i'm back on the one here.
another Shiro version released today, same link as above. trying it later...
edit: still hates titanium.
Are there any mirror for these downloads? I cannot do better than 3K/s
I'm surprised people actually want to run MIUI. As good as it's interface is, and as beautiful as it runs, it ain't a patch on any TW ROM. Very strange.
And I use a genuine Xiaomi phone as well!!

I don't see why people like MIUI vs TouchWiz or AOSP, or CM.
MIUI is big and bloated and slow and full of Chinese unnecessary dog****. The Redmi Note 4G (my phone) runs MIUI V6 and seems to have lots of problems but when I flashed a Lollipop CM12, improved hellishly, but no camera so I couldn't keep it

each to their own I guess. I've used miui for a couple of years now, occasionally trying other roms but never last more than a few hours before restoring.
not bothered about convincing anyone else tho.

Oh I wasn't looking for an argument, was just hoping you could tell me what I'm missing when I switch away. The phone I have right now, runs MIUI, so trust me, I've got lots of experience, but to me, it just isn't worth the bother. Plus, their update cycle is painful.
I guess it depends though, if you're a developer MIUI really isn't for you, but perhaps as a user, it might be more appealing. I find MIUI a really awkward platform to develop on.

zoinks, wasn't trying to be argumentative so sorry if it came across that way. i was just kinda defending miui a few posts after i was outlining how unstable the latest releases. so if there's an argument it's me against me.
