AOKP for Gtab AOKP | smb1002/Viewsonic G-Tablet (May 24 | Build 37 | 4.0.4) - G Tablet Android Development

If anybody interested in testing the AOKP port to Gtablet, the link is below. It is the AOKP forum. I tested it and I am very satisfied with it. I tested all the ICS versions from different teams but this one is the most stable and functional. Very happy with it.

I just flashed build 37 to my Gtab, and it appears to be alot faster and more fluent, than TeamDRH's latest build, (Beta 1.2) which I've been running up until now.
I appreciate their hard work, but found the relatively frequent ROM-slowdowns, to be unbearable. But considering the "no help"-policy Nvidia and Viewsonic seems to have instigated regarding the Gtab, I really do find their work amazing and a crucial step on the way in the further development for the Gtab.
I do have a few questions, which you may or may not be able to answer, however:
1) How come, when I flash gapps, Youtube doesn't appear to be installed?
2) When I search for Youtube in the Play Store, it doesn't show up.
- I'm assuming that this has something to do with the way the ROM authenticates/identifies itself to the Play Store.
- On a sidenote, a few other apps also do not show up, even when searching specifically for them. (LBE Privacy Guard among others)
- I yanked a copy of the youtube.apk from my phone, and while it's not tablet optimized, it works without any apparent problems, so it's not because it doesn't work.
3) The USB-connection, only consists of MTP or Camera-options (like the TeamDRH-ROM) and I seem to be unable to get the Gtab to present itself as a Mass Storage Device, so I might access the internal memory.
(Only way of doing this is booting to Clockworkmod and mounting the internal memory as USB-share)
I appreciate and applaud your effort in bringing AOKP to the Gtablet.

I dont know the exact answers as I just put the link here, I have nothing to do with development. I found this link by mistake and I wanted to share it with people. If you want answers, put your questions directly on the forum rootzwiki .
BTW, I do it in the same way as you (according to problems).

WOW AOKP to the GTAB
Hello just a few days ago I posted a (Q) in that forum asking if it was possible at all to develop an AOKP rom on the Gtab, then yesterday I basically found out that there was a 4th ICS rom for our devices and it was a AOKP port lol It was just crazy how that happened.
I did wonder, however, why the developer of the rom did not post it here or sdroid. thank you to OP for posting this but i'd mch rather have the developer to ask questions to bout the rom, but I guess Ill just have to head over to rootzWiki.
Anyway, this is pretty awesome that someone made this happen. I dont have AOKP on any other devices but i knew of the rom, and its awesomeness. Its a sick rom and im pretty excites. I think it may run as good if not slightly better than the other 3 ics roms, I just hope they continue to make it better with each release because it has potential.
I recommend that ppl should go check it out.

Hmmmm... might have to check this out...
Thanks for posting it. I never would have known.

installed this last night because im an aokp fan.. seems pretty good... but for me i have the same problems ive had on every ics rom for this tablet. super laggy and sounds terrible? am i the only one who has terrible sound on ics roms? ive gone back to gb every time within a day or two because of the sound.. its just crappy, low volume and distorted sound? gb rocks in comparison.. really bums me out... i keep hoping one of these ics roms will run like they do on my phone, but not even close yet.

I believe that it does not matter on ics ROMs. What is important is that your system partition be enlarged to 250MB and the easiest way to do that is to use the nvflash. See my easy guide http://raywaldo.com/2011/01/nvflash-for-dummies/

It will need more actually. Full gapps + the face detection code that is installed will use up 262+ MB.

Team drh has posted a new nvflash that makes system partition 300mb. People who are having trouble should try it out.

yes, its out, but there is a problem with downloading from google player. so I wait for now...

Since this is based off the kernel of DRH ans their drivers, what's the difference between the two? Is this more stable/faster? What are the benefits to this ROM over DRH?

[UPDATE 7/24][ROM][BL1.2] Honeycomb Android Illuminate for The Gtablet\Zpad T2

Mod Edit: As stated by forum moderator jerdog in post 814:
FORUM RULES:
"Encouraging members to participate in forum activities on other phone related sites is prohibited."
The issue here is that directing traffic elsewhere is against XDA rules, and while there is no requirement to actively support your development efforts here at XDA, saying it probably won't be supported at XDA and that they can get support on your forum is kind of low and has been removed after requesting LBS do so - to which he did not after 2 days.

cool let me know what you think so far and if you let me know what the things are you missing the most and really need besides Flash. LOL but yeah I want to make this a Honeycomb that is a well rounded Android. So i want the advice of new features and such they have heard about.
Checked out the youtube video, looks pretty sweet. Will try it out tomorrow to see the improvements with hardware acceleration etc.
Edit: Let's see some benchmark comparisons between BoS and Illuminate.
Make sure you do the following
Unzip recover.zip and move recovery folder to /sdcard folder
The recover.zip file can be found in the Roebeets thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078897
Regards,
Kenny N
Humm -- I got stuck with the boot loop . I am updating from 3588 stock recovery
Regards,
Kenny N
After half an hour struggling, I am able to load your HoneyComb edition. I am going to play around with it.
To make everyone's life easier.
Make sure you nvflash your device first using the following nvflash image
http://www.mediafire.com/?g7vorg66iiq29vm
1. Download the nvflash image above.
2. Download the recover.zip from (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=596319&d=1305415712 ) and extract the recovery folder to SD root
3. Download this honeycomb image and rename it to update.zip and copy it to your SD root
4. nvflash the nvflash image
5. Reboot with Power + Volumn up. This should bring you to the new bootloader
6. Flash the SDCard external update.zip
7. Wipes
9. Restart
G'd luck . Thanks linuxboxsolution for his contribution. I will comment later.
Nice -- OpenGL is working perfectly. The benchmark from Quandrant is 1780. Not great but can't really complain

That's funny, I could have sworn you claimed previously to have "fixed flash" too!
Does enabling OpenGL break the stock browser? Or have you done something to work around this issue?
Is the main difference from Roebeet's HCAdam and Vegacomb mashup that is Bottle of Smoke that you have enabled opengl?
This looks very promising, currently running BoS 3.3 and was about to jump to 4.1 but I might have to try this first. My apologies if this has already been covered but what exactly is the difference between this ROM and roe's BoS? How were you able to get hw acceleration on here while BoS lacks it?
Thanks alot for your contribution, and I'll be sure to post my findings later today.
just wondering
so if the opengl is fixed, how come flashed is still hasnt fixed?
i believ robeet said the opengl is what makes flash doesn't work
OpenGL is enabled but not working.. it lacks on driver and without flash no OPENGL.. note on that..
and one more thing.. BoS has HWaccel and working, like gingerbread... the only problem is video HWaccel HD playback..
BoS 3.3 or 4.0+ boot quickly too, smooth UI like that, so i can't really tell what's the difference between the two, except for bootanimation.. LOL
I, for one, appreciate your efforts
Going to start posting in XDA's GTAB forums, at least sporadically. I think enough time has passed and things have changed around here (ie a lot of 1.2 mods are popping up, which I think is a good thing). Plus I'm not really seeing the moderator "changes" that were heavily present in April. So maybe things are back to normal. Maybe.
With that in mind, I wanted to say that your efforts are much appreciated - the end goal is to get a good working HC ROM for the users out there and if you have the ear of some people to make that happen, then that's what counts. I already mentioned in Slatedroid that I plan to pull back a bit after this month with modding the GTAB, so any extra dev / modding work is ALWAYS appreciated, imo.
Thanks again.
Looks awesome, will flash once I get my new PC built >
Thanks roe
So first of all thank you for your work.
But this is different from bottle of smoke because it enables OpenGL right?
Any other changes?

[Rom 4.0.1] NOV 27 GALNET MiUI ice cream sandwich 2.11.26 UPDATED {MOST BUGS FIXED}

This is basicly the same as miui, but based on ics framework, which make it faster and better.
I wanted to bring you this good news XD
From Galnet:
Galnet MIUI ICS is our experimental builds for the Ice Cream Sandwich framework being introduced into MIUI. These builds don’t look any different, however they do come with some of the ICS benefits such as power management and ram management.

Click to collapse
Changelog for 2.11.26 :
Network Modifications:
•Corrected Signal Strength Readings in Status
•Improved network power consumption
Framework Modifications:
•Implemented ICS sensor management
•Improved power consumption whilst sleeping
•Correctly implemented debugging settings via ADB
•Fixed issues with Tethering cutting out mid way through large transfers
•HW Acceleration Included (Browser, Video, Games etc)
•Android Market (Scroll via images leading to FC fixed)
•Improvement in Galnet Video Player playback
UI Improvements
•Implemented Extended Settings
•Implemented 4 Way Reboot
•Added ICS lockscreen to default theme
•Added ICS transaction effects
•Improved Sharpness and Display quality on I9000 and I9100 builds
•Added ICS Keyboard with Vibration Settings
OTHER INFORMATION
•The battery calibration will kick in straight away once flashing this rom, therefore you will find that the battery drains quicker than before. Please allow it to drain to around 5% before recharging fully back to 100% for the perfect calibration.
•Updater may FC on first boot, don’t worry about it, as it will work correctly once this occurs.
•Phone call recording (This is something that we won’t support due to legal issues within the UK, please don’t expect it).
Credit to galnet and all who participated
I flashed this yesterday, pretty stable and everything seems to work. There are a few things people should be aware of.
1. There is no voice control
2. If you synch your FB contacts you need to go into the FB app and tell it to synch
3. The battery life is so so
4. Make sure that you do a factory restset, clear cache partition, and clear dalvik before flashing.
Other than those things, this is a really nice ROM, very slick, very fast, and seems to be stable.

Honestly Im not sure what Kernel he's using but this is the info

Don't know if that helps any, I was wondering myself if there are any other compatible Kernels that may help with battery life
Say I was on (rooted, custom rom Paragon 6) 2.2, I could just stick it on the card and flash over or must I flash a cm7 kernel and then flash rom over that?

Soft brick. Flashing back to stock works after bricking into Galnet MIUI.
Also, OP, do you have anything to do with the Galnet project, or just providing a link?
I'm pretty shocked how smooth this Rom is. I do really like the look and feel to everything. Will report more later once I get to play with it
EDIT: Flashed from Illuminance 2.1 with no problems so far

CLOSED TEST - (no longer Looking) for Beta Testers with ICS Experience - BETA CLOSED!

I am closing the beta for the time being, have a handful of testers atm. It may open up again, stay tuned.
You know the name of the game. Experienced ICS users only please.
I have been putting together a frankenstein type ICS build, blending some tweaks with:
-Beta 2.5.1 i9000
-Beta2 by goodoane
-ICS_4.0.1_r1-Beta2-i9000.zip by onecosmic
-Recommended using the FuguMod_Vibrant_Kernel_BETA2.zip from here: http://code.google.com/p/ice-cream-...mmary+Uploaded+ReleaseDate+Size+DownloadCount (the kernel is included in the zip)
-Also recommend the KB5 modem, from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19795419&postcount=130 (this is also included in the zip, but its not flashing with the rom as of right now)
This has some framework, build.pop, and ui tweaks applied, but I've pulled back on the theming to direct my attentions to functionality.
-Keymapping is corrected
-Can mount via MTP mode
-Moutning works in recovery
-ADB and Shell both work
-SU out of the box
-Lockscreen rotates and screen rotates 360 degrees
Not working:
Must toggle mute (on then off) in order to be heard by incoming callers
GPS
Video Recording
Video Playback (buggy)
You tell me what else to add here.
Installation: (coming from another ICS build, or CM7 only!!)
-Reboot to recovery, perform a factory reset
-Go to mounts and storage and format system
-Flash the Beta2 Kernel (FuguMod_Vibrant_Kernel_BETA2.zip)
-Flash the rom
-Flash your modem (no longer need to reflash the kernel)
-Fix permissions
-Reboot the phone
New Info
As you guys have read, I have been running the data data tweak from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20017090&postcount=1756 and it seems to have made things a lot more stable. No odd application issues going on anymore, although there is a bit more lag, but I think I have found a temp fix for that.
Since Friday night I have been running AutoKill Memory Optimizer, free version from the market. Its not a task killer really, but it maintains the amount of free system memory on your device, from what I understand. I am using Aggressive settings, with the Advanced settings for Memory and Battery enabled, and my phone is flying!
If you guys want, give that a shot, and let me know your results.
*******************************
So, who wants to test?
First, you promise not to release this or share it with anyone, by signing up you agree to this one term.
You should have experience with ICS, and know how to flash it and recover from a bad flash.
If you've never flashed ICS before, you definitely want to start there.
I am looking to possibly release this to the wild by the end of the week, so active testers are a big plus!
When I feel like I have enough testerss I will post that on the top of this post, just ask in here, and I will pm you a link.
I'll test, running ICS now.. I know how to do a little above basic stuff.

[Q] Official ICS vs EOS ICS

I have seen this asked a couple times but have not seen a good answer. Can anyone answer these questions?
- Are the Google apps in the EOS build/G-Apps package the same version?
-Are there features in the official ICS build that are not implemented or working yet in EOS builds?
-Other than root/OC capabilities are there features in EOS builds that are not in the official release? (I think facial recognition is one feature skipped in the official release)
-General stability differences?
I apologize if this has been answered. I tried reading through hundreds of pages in the EOS nightly thread and passed out sometime around page 170.

Hi HuckFinn, longtime, no see.
I'm extremely happy with EOS wingray ICS (I'm on build 36/GApps v10.1). Only bugs I see are caused by apps that are not yet compatible, and they're being updated daily.
I can't see any advantage to going to the trouble of going back to stock to flash this official beta when there are great alternatives that won't break your root. Unless playing Gameloft games is more important to you...there seems to be intermittant license recognition issues.
There are more features and things working with EOS than the stock update. EOS quick settings, battery theme options and more. Stock ICS won't ever see that. Plus micro USB otg is much more functional on EOS.

Yeah I have been pretty quiet on the forums lately. I am currently running the stock ICS update that was posted by solarnz just to see how it runs. I am missing root and all of the other Tiamat/EOS goodies so I am very tempted to install the latest nightly build. The stock ICS is running pretty smooth and I like the latest stock browser and gmail applications. That is why I am wondering if all the Google apps are the same version.

Gapps are the same (this whole new ics experience apps). EOS has been improving very fast, but I rarely check for updates no (still on version 34a). I think you'll love the EOS version, especially if you're coming from the early ics release.

The stock ICS is running pretty smooth and I like the latest stock browser and gmail applications. That is why I am wondering if all the Google apps are the same version.

I also am running the stock ICS update from HTK75D - just love it. I may go to a custom ROM, but the stock ICS runs so well, I'm not sure I see a compelling reasong to do so. There are people on this board, though, that continually criticize people who stay on stock - they need to give it a rest, IMO, some people like me just want a tablet that works, and not interested in loading nightlies to see tweaks every day.
If you want to root from 3.2, let me know via PM (I've posted in several threads and don't want to be a "cross-poster") - there are a few changes to the published rooting procedures needed; the last OTA intentionally added a script to overwrite a custom recovery partion. I did not identify the problem or create the fix, but can describe it more concisely that you might see elsewhere. Easy to get around.......
No Face Unlock on stock?

Correct. Was looking forward to the novelty.
Well I went ahead and installed build #38 over the weekend. It went very smoothly with no problems.
-Unlocked
-Flashed CWM Recovery
-Rebooted into recovery (nothing special, just hit vol- after 3 seconds)
-Perfomed a wipe
-Flashed EOS nightly
-Flash Google Apps 10.2
-Rebooted and all was good
I then used Titanium Backup to restore all my Apps/App Data and was back up and running in no time.
I had no major issues with the stock build. I just missed the extra EOS goodies and face unlock is a neat trick. If stock ICS is enough for you then I see no need to flash anything else. I was using Tiamat Moray and got used to the quick setting controls so was missing them.

Would you share that explanation and work-around for the script that came with the Honeycomb OTA update with me, please? I'd like to add it to the adb/fastboot/rooting guide, as what is in there now is confusing. I'm personally not familiar with the issue, so it would help to get the story from someone who knows. You'll get full credit, I promise.
And by the way, I'm glad the ICS stock update is working for you.

I thought it would be a novelty too, until I used it. I'm loving the face unlock, it's very fast and accurate. I did have to "improve" the recognition because sometimes I've got glasses or a hat on but now it only misses if I'm holding the Xoom at an off angle or in the dark. You do have to remember to hold the Xoom square when turning it on because the camera starts hunting for your face immediately.

Everything About Asus Slider SL101 Development [4/2/14]

Hi to all SL101 owners!
If you are a TF101 owner, you are invited to read this post too, your knowledge will help us
I've been searching in the forums for months for information about the SL101 (ROMs, kernels, Ubuntu, etc.). Every piece of information is in a different thread and in different place.
I wish to organize this information in one thread. I know that there are no many SL101 owners, but we can help each other by sharing our experience with the slider. In this post I'll update the status about everything which related to the SL101.
With a HUGE help by @timduru, we got our Slider back to a brand new life! :victory:
5.0.x or 4.4.x KitKat ROMs
1. Flash the proper compatibility pack .zip file AFTER flashing the ROM.
2. Once the slider boots up, go into Setings-->Language&Input-->turn OFF hardware keyboard. Otherwise it won't work.
That's it!
Note: ICS and JB were removed from here, they are outdated and not functional ROMs.
Root:
- PERI tool.
Recovery:
- TWRP 2.8.1.1 - works great after @sidneyk efforts! Very recommended for 4.4.x & 5.0.x ROMs!
- CWM 6.0.2.1- old but working.
Ubuntu:
- I have no idea... If someone tried, please report
To-do:
- UBUNTU.
- Add links where needed.
- Improve this post
If I had any grammar or spelling mistakes, I sincerely apologize.
If I helped you, please hit "THANKS"
If you have something to say/add/share, please do
It'd be great to get an owner of a slider to confirm/provide rooting knowledge. I've rooted phones in the past, but we are talking years at this point since the last time I've even loaded up ADP or fastboot. The only guide I can find that really dives deep is this one: http://www.transformerforums.com/fo...t/31927-frederuco-s-guide-root-rom-tf101.html but as you can see, it's specific to the Transformer. What root method do you recommend for the most current firmware?
Any direction you provide would be great.
I used PERI. Make sure you have the latest firmware (9.2.1.27).

I noticed now there is an apk version, so you should search this forum and try it

I see now that you included "PERI" under Root... I'll give it a try later tonight, I'm just going through all the pages to see common mistakes and corrections people have posted. So you're running ARHD 3.6 (4.0.3), how do you like it? Pro's/Con's of the ROM? Looks like it changes some of the rendering capabilities, noticable gains in speed?
It has the same experience as the stock ROM. I use it since it is rockstable and it is always on my microSD card. I really have no good reason why I'm not on the stock...

Hmmm, well I really hate how there seems to be no community for us Slider owners. I was hoping I could get my buddies "broken" Transformer tablet and then I could really dive into modding and toying around with the Slider to contribute to this thread, but unfortunately he threw it out. That of course didn't stop me from telling him that the issue he was having (screen wouldn't light up, but it was responding to touch and turning on) was fixed by either taking it apart and resetting the connector or simply giving it a few firm bangs on it's bottom edge.
I may look into some Kernels, but they can be tricky... I prefer hooking the kernel into the ROM zip file rather than trying to flash the kernel after.
Prior experience with kernels - starts out really fast and stable with a rapid decline becoming unresponsive. But again, my dabbling was back in 2009/2010 on the G1 and the Mytouch 3G (both of which still boot up and run solid btw).

I really appreciate your efforts! Glad to hear that there is someone that understands and willing to contribute to the SL101 development
As I stated in the OP, I have no knowledge in android development and programing generally so I can't really dive into it...
I'm posting this in order to provide information about various subjects to those who do have the proper knowledge

I am currently running ARHD with stock kernel as well. To be honest, without being able to use Nvflash with our Slider, I have been very scared to try much of anything else for fear of bricking.
From stock ROM to ARHD, I have noticed some speed improvements with a bit of decreased battery life. Or maybe I'm just imagining that.

Well I don't think the actual design of how it all works has changed in 4 years... (seriously, it's been that long!) Anyways, back in the day what I used to do since I never wanted to flash a kernel into a ROM is actually switch out the parts into the install (yes, you have to wipe and install from scratch) so it loaded in recovery... if it doesn't work, just revert back to an old install and try again.
I now have a rooted Slider, I have yet to try a new ROM but I think I'm going to try ARHD first.
Hey there!
Great to see that I am not the only one having a slider
Currently I am on cm10 nightly (downloaded direct from get.cm). I've found the same bugs as in unofficial cm10 rom. But - to be honest - I can live with them. OK, the not working screen rotation makes me angry sometimes
It would be great if the slider could find some devs to work on with. It's a great device in my opinion - but of course I can understand the devs. But i keep my fingers crossed to have a PA Rom on the slider - that would be like christmas to me
So I hope TheMrcool212 can find a way. Sadly I can't post in his thread caused to my less posts (normaly I am present in the german forum - AH)
At the moment I am happy to flash every day a brand new rom on my Note1.
I will keep an eye on this thread and of course I can test some roms. I could also open a thread for an Rom in the German forum Android Hilfe. I am sure there is a big interest for any 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 Rom.
Sadly I have no experiance in developing.

Sounds that you and I are very similar!
I had been too on the CM10 a while till it has driven me crazy XD
I'm waiting to the PA ROM too to be a bit more compatible with our device
Every effort that the normal user or the devs are doing is much appreciated. I'll be glad to hear that you have found something in the forum you mentioned- you can even copy-paste the first post
On my way to edit the OP now... Thanks for sharing!

Yes, sounds very similar.
But CM10 don't drive me crazy. For it is working quite perfect. I don't use the cam on my slider and if screen is off - I'll touch the power buttom.
But the non-rotation is sometimes really bad. I've found a app that solves that problem 8don't know the name now, if you need it I'll will check the name for you), but that is in my opinion just a work around.
But of course: PA on the slider would be a dream!!!:good:

A few questions.
1 Whats the procedure to flash the CM10 for the slider?
2 Whats the name of the program that auto rotates the screen?
3 What are the benefits that you see changing over to JB and are they worth it?
4 Does everything outside of the camera and screen work?
Also thanks for installing the CM10. Gave me an idea. (just use apps to offset the differences) Maybe there is an app to reinvert the camera. LOL
They also said something about the keyboard not doing something or the other when opened. Whats yr xp with that? Respect!!
1.) As usual: Root and CWMR are required. Then do all the wipes (cache, dalvik cache and user data) and format system, cache and data (to be sure and "clean"); after that install CM10 (don't use CM10.1 - only problems) rom and latest signed gapps
2.) There are two apps you can use: Screen Rotation Steuerung or Ultimate Rotation Control. URC works better, but you have to pay for it after one week
3.) Benefits: Works faster and smoother in my opinion. And it gives me the satisfaction to have 4.1.2 :silly:
4.) Yes, the only problem I recognized (as you can see in the OP) are camera and screen work.
Keyboard is working fine, no problems
Keyboard and CM10.
A small precission for CM10 ROM on SL101: keyboard wake up works some times. Maybe 20% of the attemps (I press repeatedly the keys) do work, at least for me.
Hi DK5, can you upload the the folder 'keychars' and 'keylayout' in /system/usr in Stock ROM of your SL101? I need to see what's the difference between TF101 and SL101 of those folder. Maybe i can help you to add support for 4.2 ROMs.

A time ago I found this link where someone tried to install Ubuntu on our Asus SL101.
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...dual-boot-ubuntu-on-asus-eee-pad-slider-sl101
I didn't try it yet, maybe in a few weeks after exams, but it's great that someone got run Ubuntu on the slider
Try to flash a 4.2 ROM the zip file below. I took the asusec jar and lib file from erickwill's CM10. Fix permissions if it doesn't work.
That's cool MrCool!
Will charge my SL101 and then: let the test begin (of course I will choose yourPA)
I will give feedback
