Thumbs up from the Engadget guys...
http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/07/samsung-galaxy-tab-7-7-review-international-edition/

Confirms my thoughts also.
This is the best tablet out right now.

yes its the best!

Thankso for posting, I understand quadrant doesn't mean much but I'm wonderinf why its only getting that amount while my note gets 4800.

that seems above average for a Note, iirc

Really? I ran quadrant again I got 4700+ so idk, how much is the supposed to be avg?

avg is 3300-3700
doesn't matter though ... i'm sure the 7.7 is pretty snappy with a different launcher...
for most things you'll be doing, you wouldn't see significant delay

Thats my result

I agree that is the best tablet at the moment.
But I then don't understand, why Samsung doesn't ship any to Europe?
Why don't they push it into the markets?
It is so hard to find one.
Or will the situation change in some weeks?
I read that one retailer awaits the tablets on 17th February and a case maker will start shipping the cases on 17th February too.

Good review. I bit too friendly on touchwiz, but it's okay.
It seems that the screen sets it apart from other devices, I wonder even if ANY devices 7" or bigger will show up in 2012/2013q1 with SAmoled+

Read the review earlier on. Agree with all but Touchwiz.
Available at Expansys for a whooping 600€ (ouch!)

630€ on demand for the 3G version.
I guess I'll better wait

Great review, are people really getting the stated battery life (12+ hours) of display time?? If so, I just might need to replace my Note with this. Lucky to get 3.5 hours of display time on my Note.

you're doing something wrong then lol

Yes, the battery life claims are thankfully not exaggerated, it's an amazing device and yet so thin!

The battery life really caught me, Im no longer happy with the 9hrs of screen time on the note but the 12hrs on the tab should extend my usage for a while!

Yeah. I loved the review. SO glad I have this tablet!

hmm I always get around 4000 for my quadrant scores as well so i emailed Dana Wollman, the reviewer, and she said she reliably got the score she put in the review and unfortunately they have already given the tab back to negri. It is strange, I wonder what was causing engadget's tablet to do that.

Well it only proves that quadrant is not reliable.

Beast SGS2 vs Sensantion

i had sensation as second phone so i would like to share my feelings.
I purchased this flagship from HTC having HTC desire S, and also HD. Desire S is owned by my wife atm and she is happy enough. so i like HTC - thats for start
First feelings - impressed- nice phone. Got it - charged to full and lets rock!
Booting and starting to check out system. after 1 hour with screen on + wifi my battery went down to 35% - i say ok its the first cycle lets wait. - after one week its the same. if u wanna watch movie in plane while flying for about 2 hours u better take spare battery - not saying there is no divx support at all.
- keeping sync on gmail and just stand by eats the battery about 10% a hour! not touching the device at all.
-i though ok, lets live with pure battery anyway. but then it started. while holding the phone in landscape - death grip is saying HELLLOOOO i am here! loosing conectivity is normal - wifi disapear - signal went down 2. amazing. i coudlnt believe it. i had never suffered from anything like that -talking about HTC.
-web browsing - no hardware acerelation at all means opening web sites with heavy flash content is taking ages. not mentioning zoom in or out during the stream. while SGS2 can keep streaming during the zooming interval without any lags or issues! i was disapointed a badly. i can see small plus with the resolution - u can feel small diference - i mean better - sharper pages. but not brigther or lighter - the display is so reflective that u can use it as mirror and using the phone under direct sunnlight is almost impossible. so one more +handy mirror
someone rings you? hm how can u hear the phone if the volume set on max is extremly low - even my dog cant hear it!!! if u wanna share some youtube video with your friends they gotta put thems ears on the back panel in order to enjoy it. another disapointment - a big one. not speaking about the quality of the speaker (poor anyway) its about the noise level - being extremly low.
i said ok i like HTC so lets find something i can like/enjoy and finally be happy about.
camera/compare to SGS2 is a bit disapointing again. double flash doesnt help. i could paint better pics then sensation can make. i mean it.macro? what is it?
so i kept going and trying - still searching with hope i will like something.
i though ok i will use it as gps navigation in car at least. lol what a fail. after 4 hours on gps battery dead! maybe i am gonna develop double car charger 2in1 in order to keep sensation alive.
no i am not HTC hater at all. but the huge disapointment that HTC made this time is deadly bad. They made nice looking compact device without brain. its like ferrari with skoda engine and seats from seat. i though it will bring something extraordinary and special - even after installing costum roms - the battery improved and speed 2 - not browsing speed and the battery went up from 8 hours moderate use to 8 hours and 10 min - not mentioning juice defender on at all the times ofc.
so i just changed the sensation on local advertising web site for another SGS2 - u set the add and then meet the possible costumer in person.
and i told the guy that i made the deal with him - lets exhchange hurry - and now i will tell u what u did. U could see his frozen face! He become my friend now and after having almost all previous HTC devices he said he wont come back untill something better will be developed - on HTC side.
SO happy days guys here. And just small tip - sensation is the only one device getting closer in terms off hardware to SGS2 - but the reall power of SGS2 is deep in THE SKY!
I hope this will help some people with doubs about battery life and performance issues.
Once again - i have nothing against HTC and i like them, but i believe they didnt set up sensation well atm. looking at stats list it should perform much better then it does. just quick example - i dont like quadrant or bench tests once its fast and smooth i dont need any bench to confirm that. but the highest i could get from sensation was 3400 on quandrant with 1600 OC!!!!! lol
so i will end this with words;
HAPPY BRIGHT DAYS WITH SAMSUNG
forgive me for my broken english

The Sensation is seeming more and more like an interim flagship. The E3D already has more RAM and from everything posted Sense 3.0 is a pig and needs all it can get. The Vigor on Verizon is going to have a full 720p display and a 1.5ghz processor. The Holiday on AT&T is going to have a 4.5" qHD display and also 1GB of RAM. By the end of the year the Sensation's going to be forgotten.

hm i gotta check it out.
I've only just recently jumped onto android after owning every iphone, the sensation was a handset I was considering but reviews put me off.
The two things that made me avoid it were the lack of amoled, and the apparent locked bootloader.
I never got round to playing with a sensation as the store had no demo models.
I am happy enough with my galaxy s so far though

yeh the bootloader is locked but u can find already few nice leaks on thems forum(sensation forum on XDA). not saying GO FOR IT but honestly at its price range and with its performance better buy SGS2 or stay with SGS1.

How long do you think the galaxy s 2 will stay top end for?
I know technology moves quickly but I just hope I made the right decision and there's not a better phone coming out next month or something....

If I had to guess, I'd say either a SGS2.5 or SGS3 will be out before the holidays. The Nexus 3/Prime is supposed to be out in October and the advances I mentioned above in the two HTC phones will probably prompt Samsung to release something higher end. Think about this though. They just updated and are continuing to sell a version of the SGS1 and it's been out for over a year. So the SGS2 may not be state-of-the-art by Christmas but it should still very much be current.
honestly i believe u can use SGS2 for about an year - untill another companies will reach its level. and SGS2 will last on the top untill SGS3 will be released. and the date inst confirmed yet. but SGS1 is still a good phone. if u dont have enough money or dont wanna waste it just stay where u ar and wait for bargain to upgrade.

Thanks.
That's one thing I find overwhelming coming from apple phones, android has so many handsets running so many different versions of the operating system.
With an apple handset you're pretty much fine for a year, though you have to put up with the restrictive nature of ios.
Ah well either way I'm going to try and keep hold of this handset for 12 months, unless something really tempts me to "upgrade"

I appreciate the OP's comments as I have been wondering how the HTC sensation fares compared to the SGS2. I also find it funny that the HTC battery seems to be a little worse than SGS2 especially given the complaints by some SGS2 users about battery life. I can watch about 5 hours of video on mine no problem.

I have the Sensation as well and the battery life on it is pretty bad. On the SGS2 with moderate to heavy use I get about 16-18 hours. WIth the Sensation it's a miracle if I get 10. There are two things about the Sensation that are better than the SGS2 and only one is of any practical significance. The first is the HTC keyboard. The auto-correct function on the HTC device is excellent and is far better than Samsung's stock keyboard. The other is weather. No one comes close to what HTC has done with their weather UI. It's nice eye candy but that's about it.

I wouldnt know what to feel if something new and better comes out before the end of the year, If they are going nvidia quadcore (Kal-El) then its highly possible they are gonna out a 720P screen as its been in production already.. I wonder if they improved anything aside from bumping the res.
The SGS1 was the fastest phone for almost a year when it got released. NOTHING from the competition could compare when it came down to pure specs last year.
The Desire HD and iPhone 4 were the closest competition, and the SGS1 always won out in benchmarks and in IRL usage.
I would say that the SGS2 will probably not be trumped until early next year. The Nexus Prime will probably have similar innards as the SGS2

iRL usage there are some few aspects the the Iphone4 is faster but other usage scenarios the S1 was faster and was even far more functional than the Iphone4.
Im pretty sure Iphone5 will be targeted to compete with the S2, Infact I even wish the Iphone5 would be better + faster in the majority of tests so that Samsung and Google can hurry up ang release the S3 and ICS.

Hemorrdroids.net Galaxy Note Review

Hi guys, I'd appreciate any feedback.

It's very well written and objective. I think that the best praise I could give is that you came with an open mind. When comparing to other reviews, many were immediately critical of Samsung for the large size - you acknowledged that it was for a niche audience.
Oh well ... there are people who like big phones.

It's pretty decent.
I remain amazed at how few reviews discuss how awesome it would be to use the Note as a GPS, with its fast lock time (GLONASS), large screen, and free Navigation. I think it's a big selling point, not just for the Note but for android as well.
- Frank
Agree with the comments above good review Andy and I am following you on youtube (along with NZtechfreak) as well.
Thanks guys
I'm a little annoyed with myself, I meant to put in a picture of me using it as a SatNav, as it certainly is very good for it. Maybe I'll edit it in this week
Very good review. Also matches pretty well my opinion of the device, except for camera that seams clearly worse then S2. I have the Note for an week and i took plenty of shot with it. I think the aperture of Note < S2, also the diameter of the lens is smaller

Yeah, the only two shots I had I could directly compare, one I was worried it was more about weather, the other they looked very similar.
The only thing I would recommend (and this is for all Android phones) is that you abandon the usage of Quadrant as a benchmark. It is inaccurate in terms of real world performance. Sadly, it is also one of the most widely used.
As an alternative I would recommend perhaps Smartbench 2011.
Smartbench wont run on the Note though
Hey Andy, nice review, like your work - I'm pretty disenchanted with the major sites rubbish gadget reviews, it's really nice to see some of the highest quality ones coming from people such as yourself.
Agree with the dark lords comments about Quadrant as a benchmark too, I still include it because lots of people want to know, but I also make sure to include some better benchmarks. Smartbench and Chainfire bench are two of the better ones (of course as you say, and as I alluded to in my own review Smartbench is buckets o' fail for the Note right now).
Oh, and in terms of feedback - more screenshots are good, particularly in a Note review where you can annotate them from the device itself!

As we all can see AnTuTu is clearly gaining it's fair share of reputation and well worth it I believe.
As for benchmarks tests for PC's, they usually subjective to the performance and not real world scenarios.
Also about Quadrant, I agree with what you said 100% but since it's so widely used we can only use it as average of what we are "supposed" to get. Nothing more.
Didnt read any reviews yet , dont own the Note yet ( but I will, unless the Nexus Prime will change my mind), but I did my own testing and comparison tests on some showrooms and I am quite impressed....even the Yamaha dac is better implemented...
I just could not test the GPS...
The gps chipset on my sgs1 needs some assist but it does the Job.(see videos on my sign)
I read that the sgs2 got the sirfstarIV chipset which is impressive cause all my standalone Gps devices got the SirfstarIII.
Does the note got the Sirfstar IV as well?
Tks.

I have owned a lot of devices and SGN has the best GPS by far, yes, better than SGS2. Very accurate and quick!
Nice reviews thank you for taking the time. You reaffirmed what I suspected great device but big. For me considering my hand are big (+10" span) this actually will be better for people with large hands.

Note 2 vs. Note 1 in terms of temperature

Hi guys,
I currently own a Galaxy Note N7000, but am planning an upgrade. To the Note 2. Yay!
My Note gets really hot when playing games like Arcane Legends, especially if I plug in the charger (of course). Some times, it gets so hot that the top side of the screen burns my thumb!!! And that even when playing Arcane Legends alone, not charging at the same time!
I wanna know. Are there people who have owned the original Note and switched to the Note 2? If yes... those are the people I want to talk to. They know best how to compare the two.
Never had the N7000 but I can tell you that the N7100 never gets that hot. A little warm yes, hot no.

I wouldn't say it gets too hot, but if you play the right games it can get toasty. Not too shabby though. Any mobile device these days can get up there in temps. It is the nature of the beast. Getting smaller and more robust and trying to keep the temperature down is all part of the challenge. I wonder how well the a15/mod'ed a9's will run in the next year or two. Eager to see how well Samsung's exynos CPU pairs together with imagination technologies GPU. Exciting times for the android gamers as they might see more games and many of those ported from iOS or more time put into them. I really would like science to take advantage of our smartphone gpu's much like distributed networking on PC's.

I'm not gonna sit around and wait another year. I'll get the Note 2, as soon as I sell this Note. My alternatives are... the HTC One, which I doubt will shine development-wise, the Xperia Z which has poor speaker performance and cr*ppy screen and the S4, which will also suck development-wise.
Yeah, definetly not gonna sit around to wait for the A15-powered devices.
I hate my Note right now for the following :
- poor battery performance (despite its 2500 mAh battery)
- screen sucks so bad (plus, black clipping)
- overheating like hell
At least the first two are better on the Note 2 . Enough for me to upgrade.

I am sure that the HTC One will get great dev development seeing as how that codeworx is getting the device, as for S4, it should also get great development as it is going to be a very popular device and most of the S4's are going to be Qualcomm not Exynos.

I had the Note 1 and now have the Note 2 and they are 2 different phones. The cpu on the Note 2 is much more powerfull and battery friendly than the one on the GN1. Temperatures are very good and haven`t experienced any heat issues. Switching over to the GN2 will only bring you advantages.

Oh yeah. At least the Qualcomm variant will definetly receive some love. Too bad Krait 300 is Cortex-A9, not Cortex-A15. But it's powerful enough. Way powerful than the cores in the Note 1, that's for sure.
*reconsidering options*
Won't have enough money for neither the One nor the S4. So, it's gonna be the Note 2. It's a powerful enough little tiny beast, anyway

Thank you for your input.
Battery life and power is exactly why I was considering the Note 2. Otherwise I could go for the S3, which has the same ammount of RAM (not really good for long term) and pretty much the same battery life as my Note. Not really worth paying 150 extra bucks for that... Better pay 200 extra bucks for a Note 2 :silly:
The screen is also an important factor for which I am considering the Note 2 over the S3. Screw pentile. RGB for the win!
Also, I know the Note 2 comes with a 2 amp charger. That's awesome! I will be able to play AND charge at the same time :silly:

How is that related to what is being discussed here?
Well, i had an n7100 which is on my mothers hands right now and i switched to the n7100.
The note 2 NEVER gets hot, like ever.. compared to the note1 which does get considerably hot when gaming.
Rest assured that you wont burn your thumb ever again with newer generation phones. Also, battery life on n7100 is brutal.

I have to admit I was tempted to go for the cold metal beauty of the One, but delayed deliveries to Polish carriers took that option away. And wasn't that impressed by the Z. Not regret it much. That large screen is just beautifull. Who needs FullHD when it's already so sharp and amazing. Seems to be the perfect size too. Well, put it in a case and it gets too big for me. But having the extra screen estate over the lesser phones really is great!
Was initially put off by the horrible look of TouchWiz (have been using CM on my Galaxy S for a long time), but after customizing it a bit (inspired by coldfustion YouTube videos), I'm pretty happy with the results. I now mostly only see the ugliness of TouchWiz during calls and sometimes in the dialer (when it appears from a system call, rather then is brought up manually). Guess I'll proably eventually get rid of that too with a custom ROM, but I'm not in a hurry.
Coming from Galaxy S, I can really appreciate the GPS speed and accuracy. The volume of the loudspeaker is also very nice, even if clarity is nothing to write home about. Browsing and reading/writing e-mails is a real pleasure on this beast!
It does get a bit warm during gaming sessions, but it doesn't seem very hot and I hope its nothing that can cause an actual burn!
The smoothness is not that amazing too me though. I guess partially because I use MultiPicture Live Wallpaper and it always reloads the wallpaper during switching landscape/portrait mode. The default lockscreen was laggy as hell too (tried various fixes suggested here). But I turned that off and am now using the lockscreen from Go Launcher Ex, which is much faster (well, actually that and some icon packs are the only functionalities of that launcher I use... otherwise it's way too laggy, especially compared with Nova). But I'm sure the speed can easily be fixed with a custom ROM.
Just wish I could scale the keyboard down, cause it wastes too much screen estate (using Swype). And Multiwindow... the menus take way too much space... it should scale the content down as well, because as things are, very little actual content is displayed in each window.
^ A little off topic, but just wanted to say that all your wishes can be fulfilled with a rooted stock rom and simplistic and or xposed frameworks, including theming and dpi change, when you're ready for it

WHY???
http://www.androidcentral.com/lg-g3-review
After just seven days it's clear to us that the G3 is at least a good phone, and LG's best yet. And as we count down to the global launch, we'll soon see whether it can become a great one.

Display? It can't be worse than G2's, it's next gen WQHD AH-IPS matrix
Batter? Disappointing? Where? You need 18hours per day of surfing or what? 7hrs is pretty enough
Are you looking at numbers (resolution) only? Look at the blacks, look at the contrast... it's bad. Plus it doesn't allow full brightness when phone gets warm.
And yes 6h of web surfing at 50% brightness sucks, Z2 or G2 give twice of that, around 12h.

blacks are better on the G3, both at 50% and 100%
whites aren't as good though

Great review. Really in depth and raises concerns about going with this phone. They should've stuck with FullHD...

You interpret it wrong from gsmarena. Lower value means deeper black. G3 Black level is worse than G2

This is clearly a pathetic review. They say everything against it on the particular page and on the last page they say everything positive. And those smart people made the review with the preproduction unit too! A phone with a tallk time of 25hours can never have 6:30 Minutes of web browsing. Also, what disappointment in benchamarks? Seriously? Then Nexus 5 is the worst phone ever on performance..
Best is go and have a look at it yourself. Samsung paid them sooo much just to get the name down.. They sold more than 100000 Units in the first 5 days which was 3 times more than the S5 so obviously Samsung is jealous. I have written a mail to them asking about each and every aspect. Hope they reply soon.:good:

Well the numbers and measurement don't lie. We already know the benchmark number will not be as good as s5, m8 due to QHD resolution given they use same cpu as S5 witb FHD resolution.
browsing make use of QHD, graphic, processing, javascript, and everything, while talk time is not (just black screen).
Screen measurement is disapointing already compared to even G2. It means the panel quality is not as good.
They praised it in the end because from normal user it really is good lhone witb good design. LG tried hard.

I'm sure there is some wild conspiracy as to why GSM Arena lied in their review. Surely Samsung paid them off! Speaking of Samsung and sales...there was a huge no sale in South Korea the same time the S5 launched, which explains the low initial numbers. This has been reported by news outlets. I'm an LG fan and wanted the G3 to be so much more, but they were too quick to market with the QHD screen and should've waited for better battery tech or processor optimization. I'm buying the G2 over this phone, because it's been proven to be an amazing device, even months later. Don't let your fanboyism blind you...

By all means, make up your mind based upon a blog's first-hand experience with a prerelease ROM and kernel.
Just sayin'.
And also phone is connected to charger

Perhaps you would be more enlightened/discouraged by reading about the exact same issue with the S6 HERE
In both cases, these are both devices running "bragging" ROM versions for MWC and also running a synthetic benchmark that is often derided as "non-representative" of reality.
Either way, I wouldn't be tempted to draw any conclusions yet. Early adopters pay over the odds in financial and ROM stability/performance terms.
odd move basing your buying decision on a phone thats being used constantly pre released and being charged at the same dam time smh
And all this is based on the fact that some would-be tech journalist from Romania tried to do some benchmark tests on a phone with non-final software on it and that has been on the charger for two-three days continuously, with its screen lit up most of the time and that has been played with by hundreds of people ... Let's be patient a little and wait for a test when the whole package is actually finished and shipped out for real reviews.

I had the same msg on my note 3... notting to worry about.. if your phone is at 57C, you'll see that msg in antututu if you want to benchmark
This should pretty much sum all this bafoonery up

Couldn't make sense of your point as there was no punctuation...I have tired head now.
Even if so, samsung would be the last company I turn my head to if I leave HTC (after apple that is, but goes without saying)
I thought this was a joke. The same post is in the Galaxy S6 forum.
Anywoot, simple solution to overheating. Custom kernel and undervolting.
watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eqez7e5JTcU running benchmarks side by side and no overheating warning popped up on either phone.
Overheating on a demo phone that probably has the screen on for hours on end and is tethered into a charger...yeah that makes sense
Yes indeed.. Antutu already alarms when your phone is at 58C... Screen and charger always on, a lot of people play with it and run benchmarks.. not so strange it's going to be around 60C and antutu gives a warning..
Even the S6 will do exactly the same in that situation. I've had it also with my Note 3, when on charger
Not a big fan of Samsung's take on Android (TW) and I know benchmark results are not always reflective of real world performance. However, these results look pretty darn good for the S6 devices. Seems like some good optimization work has gone into these devices. S6 is pushing a lot more pixels.. don't know how the tests are affected by that.

Optimization... On Samsung! Pufffth. It was evident in previous cases that the Note 3 had cheated on bench marks. I'm not saying HTC hasn't cheated either, but just something to realize that benchmarks aren't everything and can be easily fabricated with some from of performance setting (i.e. higher clocks or performance governor).
My insights below. Maybe biased in the eyes of Samsung
After owning both the One M7 and S5 - I had a better experience on the m7 and the screen on the Samsung is very thin that it broke after I dropped it on the ground. I personally see a lot of people with broken digitizer's on the bus and this is probably why. In my case, my next phone will either be a Sony or a HTC. If you guys are wondering if warranty protects against this, it doesn't unless the phone's digitizer doesn't respond at all that means I'm not covered by warranty at all. Something to realize when buying any from of warranty.
that is inevitable, cortex A57 is a big and hot core
