MMS on Virginmobile

Has anybody had any success with getting MMS to work with a virginmobile payasyougo Sim card
I have got normal internet browsing working but cannot get MMS to work
Spoke to virgin and they have given me the following settings
Profile virgin mms
Server URL http://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002
IP 193.30.166.1
IP Port 9201
APN goto.virginmobile.uk
Login ID user
Password Leave blank
Bearer GPRS
I have entered some of these settings into the Connection that MMS seems to be using but I dont know where to put in the
IP Port and Server URL
Can any one help
Thanks
I don't know which version of windows your using as the MMS composer is different in WM2003SE. I can tell you how I got mine working and its a 2 stage process:
Part 1
1. Create a new connection by coing to Start->Settings->Connections and tap on the Connections icon.
2. Tap on the "Advanced" tab and then tap on the "Select Networks" button.
3. Tap on the lower one of the two "New..." buttons, i.e. the one below the "My Work Network" drop down menu.
4.0 On the "General" tab, enter a name of "Virgin MMS".
4.1 On the "Modem" tab, tap on the "New..." button.
4.3 Enter a name for the connection of "Virgin MMS", select a modem type of "Cellular Line (GPRS)" and then tap on the "Next" button.
4.4 Enter an access point name of "goto.virginmobile.uk" and then tap on the "Next" key.
4.5 Enter a user name of "user", ensure that all other fields are empty and then tap on the "Finish" button.
4.6 On the "Proxy Settings" tab, ensure that the "This network connects to the Internet" is NOT ticked" and then tap on the "ok" button in the top right hand corner of the screen.
4.7 In the drop down menu for "Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using:", change this back to "My Work Network" (or whatever was in this field before you started this process).
5. You can now exit from the Settings screens as Part 1 is complete.
Part 2
1. You need to go into MMS composer.
2. In WM2003SE you need to go into the "Tools->MMS Settings" option.
3.0 On the "Preferences" tab, in the "Connect via:" option, enter/select "Virgin MMS".
3.1 On the "Servers" tab, tap on the "New" button.
3.2 Enter a "Server name:" of "Picture Message"
3.3 Enter a "Gateway:" of "193.30.166.1".
3.4 Enter a "Port number:" of "9201". Don't worry if you don't have a "Port number:" field as the system will default to this anyway.
3.5 Enter a "Server address" of "http://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002" and then tap on the "OK" button.
3.6 Tap on the "ok" button in the top right hand corner of the screen.
That's the end of the two stages and you should now be able to send picture and video messages (I've tried both).
Two things to be aware of:
1. The send/receive does seem to take ages.
2. Don't try to send pictures which aren't JPG or BMP as they won't go and you end up thinking that there's a problem with your config. I speak from experience here.
GPRS settings on Vorgin?
Slightly Off topic but I'm trying to Use my xda 1 with virgin and am trying to get the GPRS set up and am struggling, is it essentially the same settings as these?
Many thanks
Nate :?:
The GPRS setting for internet access only involves 1 stage in order to set it up. It's almost exactly the same as the first part of MMS:
1. Create a new connection by going to Start->Settings->Connections and tap on the Connections icon.
2. Tap on the "Advanced" tab and then tap on the "Select Networks" button.
3. Tap on the upper one of the two "New..." buttons, i.e. the one usually below the "My ISP" drop down menu.
4.0 On the "General" tab, enter a name of "Virgin GPRS".
4.1 On the "Modem" tab, tap on the "New..." button.
4.3 Enter a name for the connection of "Virgin GPRS", select a modem type of "Cellular Line (GPRS)" and then tap on the "Next" button.
4.4 Enter an access point name of "goto.virginmobile.uk" and then tap on the "Next" key.
4.5 Enter a user name of "user", ensure that all other fields are empty and then tap on the "Finish" button.
4.6 On the "Proxy Settings" tab, ensure that the "This network connects to the Internet" is ticked and then tap on the "ok" button in the top right hand corner of the screen.
4.7 In the drop down menu for "Programs that automatically connect to Internet should connect using:", ensure that the "Virgin GPRS" entry is displayed.
5. You can now exit from the Settings screens as your connection set up is now complete. You shouldn't have to do any other config work to use the internet.
Ensure that when you try this connection that you don't have your XDA docked in its cradle or you won't be connecting via GPRS.
Happy surfing.
Thanks mate, thats done it. I have tried almost exactly that and didn't get it quiteright.
Appreciate the help.
Virgin MMS
Have entered this setup info into xda2 But it still wont connect and returns the following message
Dialed:gotovirginmobile.uk
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To
check your connection settings and change
them if needed, tap Settings. If the
problem continues, reset your mobile device
according to your manufactures documentaion
and try again
Help
Thanks
If the above text is exactly what appears on your screen then your problem is easily fixed. It looks like your missing a full stop, i.e. "gotovirginmobile.uk" should be "goto.virginmobile.uk". This is the value you entered in step 4.4 of Part 1.
I tried removing the full stop on my M1000 and I got exactly the same error reported so this should hopefully sort the problem.
Virgin MMS
Sorry my mistake I had put goto.virginmobile.uk in at step 4.4
but omitted it from my previous post
Should the connection for MMS use the same one that internet explorer uses, that one uses one called MOBILE WEB GPRS that appears to have the same setup. Browsing on the internet works OK

Wizard O2 MMS Setting

Hello,
Is there anyone using the corporate mode and not able to send MMS ? I've been trying to change and figure the setting on my device. It seem to be not able to send MMS.
If there is someone using the corporate mode and able to send MMS please send me the configuration.
Many Thanks.
Are you using a contract line? if you are try this file. Hopefully it'll solve your problem.
Hello,
No luck, I still not able to send mms.
Are you in the corporate mode as well?
Hi Waiho,
i had this problem, what i had to do was hard reset and install it with all the O2 rubbish. I then wrote down all the details which were stored. Then hard reset in corporate mode and put the details in. Is bit lengthy but neccessary. Sorry i dont have my phone on me at the mo so can even give the details from mine.
mms disappeared
i had the problem of not seeing mms inbox because of not loading the extended rom from t Mobile.
I found out that with total commander you can go to the files in the extended rom and there i needed to execute a file called shortcut_mms1_java6xx-cv-voice-emailwiz-tmo-03nov05.cab to make it work
only need to enter the provider settings now
Hi Enervate,
Do you mind to send me the config detail ?
Thanks!
Use Basic ?
If you use the Basic setting after a hard reset (or Clear Storage) you get the MMS settings OK. Otherwise contact O2 Care and they will send you the settings.
DBo.

Switched from T mobile to O2

I've moved provider to O2, though i'm using the T-Mobile Vario II handset, however I can't seem to get all the things working.
I've followed all their instructions for the settings and it doesn't seem to work. I'm also fed up of phoning their foreign call centre where they make me feel like I'm speaking swahili other than english. They don't seem to be able to cope with someone not using one of their own handsets.
These are the instructions I've followed. Can anyone think of other reasons why I can't get things working

I used the following settings when I switched.
http://www.o2.co.uk/assets/O2HybridNav/Static-files/PDFs/Pocket PC manual set up instructions.pdf
The only difference I can see is the username used.
May be worth a shot.
Thanks.
I've managed to get the internet working. However the MMS is still not working.
Any suggestions?
Okay I'm still trying to sort this.
I can use my handset for internet. Though it won't let me send email from either my Yahoo or my O2 email accounts. However it does download the yahoo mail.
I still can't get the mms working.
I read through the instructions linked and they seem to be for a slightly different windows setup.
I get the Start - Settings - Connections - connections tab then when adding new it doesn't give you the option of Generic IR Modem. you have the option of Generic IrDA but then it prompts you "Enter the number exactly as it should be dialed. Include any extra numbers such as an outside line or credit card"
I have previously chosen "Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)" Then filled in the service settings as close as possible.
The APN, - Next
username, password,- Advanced - TCP/IP -Use server-assigned IP address
servers - use specific server address
DNS, Alt DNS - OK
Finish.
There appears to be an awful lot of other things I should be able to fill in, but can't find.
It is windows mobile 5 I'm using.
Anyone got any suggestions. I know there was a weird quirk with some setups so that you had to mms yourself a pic before you could send to anyone else, but this doesn't seem to be the case here as I've tried that too.
