Samsung Galaxy S III to get curved design? | Stuff magazine - http://goo.gl/Pkuqk
We*might not be getting a Samsung Galaxy S III at Mobile World Congressthis month but that hasn't stopped the (supposed) leaks coming thick and fast. Like this mystery handset snapped and shared on*Chinese site XDA*– could that be the Sammy lettering up top? And how comfortable would that S-shaped design actually be?Your guess is as good as ours as to whether we're looking at a*next-gen Sammy smartphone, let alone one we'll see in Summer 2012. But that doesn't stop us ogling the elongated 4.6in, curved form in the photo above.XDA also reckon the massive display will rock 3D – we'd like to see how that works on a bendy handset like the one pictured.Flexible phones? Yes please, but not for the foreseeable future we'd bet.

These are likely our Note2 upgrade specs in the fall

This SGIII is likely a mid spring release.
I'll likely be snatching this up anyway....using concurrently til Note2 breaks sigh....cause, well, the Note IS my lifetime thing now!

Only real advantage I see so far is the quad core, anything anyone else able to find any other real advantages?
Damn, I haven't even had the note for a month yet. And I consider myself an early adopter.
If I can wait a couple of months, or until next year, maybe I can buy the note 3.

Samsung has no right to announce Note 2 until I say so. Maybe in 2 years time after my contract ended

That's alright. I'm salty now. But my note will hold me over until the note 5 comes out. Then I'll be bragging about that one like crazy.
The best part about the release of a Note2 is Note Ones will be selling cheap in the Summer before release. Make a great addition/backup to the SGS III.
Once you go 5.3 inches, you can't go back. I would only consider a super speedy mind blowing note 2

+1 ! Even thought I have a skyrocket, I dread switching back from my GNote.
So true. It's amazing how the 'huge' 5.6" Nexus looks undoable to me!
I'm a big camera freak...so the impending resolution increase looks sweet to me. This'll be huge with the SGS2 crew and Samsung'll followup in style with the Note2! You know the stylus and entire handwriting tech will get jacked too.
Sweet stuff to look forward to for Note owners!

I've wondered that too. SGS3 with a stylus... and how about a qwerty keyboard too ;-)
Honestly couldn't careless about sgs 3 . I came from sgs 2 but man, can't go back with anything less than 5.3" now lol, size does matter haha.

after i got my note..a 4.3" phone looks like a nokia 5800 lol afterall size does matter..iam definitely waiting for note 2..no way going back to small screen
Same here, only I came from a 3.5" screen, so it was an even bigger gap.
Still, going back to something smaller than 5.3" would definitely be a no-go.
It's the same with tv's and monitors.. Once you're used to a high resolution, or a larger screen, switching back to something even a bit smaller will irritate you.
I'm not saying I'm defo getting a note 2, I love my note and loved my dell streak before it, I love a big screen. However I'm still under the impression that I could still go bigger the note easily fits in my pocket, another inch maybe even 2 if there was no bezel at all on the front of the phone, ics on screen buttons have got to Be the reason behind this so they can have phones with just screen. Who knows what will happen in a years time!

Galaxy SIV : 18 reasons to wait

This is a round up of all the rumors of what we can expect from the S4,
Does anyone here think that some of these are unrealistic?
Lighter, thinner? (not sure about this, as if they decide to put the S Pen built in, it will be hard to slim down the SIV)
Higher Resoltion
Bigger Screen
2GB ram
built in S pen
More durable
android Key Lime pie
Faster Downloads
Faster Uploads
13MP camera
Higher PPi
2MP front camera
Quad-core 2 GHz Cortex-A15
Mali-T658 GPU
non pentile display
longer battery life
Improved Audio quality
As long as it's not exynos it would be good.
....
more antixda community security builtin
more bs bootloaders making sure you get your warranty void
...
im afraid i will pass next time and try nexys or sont
do you guys think it will have a s pen? and if they put it in do you think it wont to slim and light?
Don't think it will have a pen, but you never know... Just wait a few months
I In have been a Galaxy fan since the first one.
Loved them since then. I really think that the phone has the best technology and characteristics in the market.
But the S3 is an epic fail in design and construction.
I would love that the S4 is metal or aluminum built and that it feels less flimsy on the hands.
I would also like to keep the screen size of the S3.
I know most will say if I want aluminum get an Iphone but I hate them. And I hate to say that the I5 looks much better than the S3.

Let me get this straight... This thread presents 18 reasons to wait for the Galaxy SIV, even though none of them is anything more than pure speculation?
Interesting.
In that case, I have 5 more reasons to wait for the SGS IV:
1. Android Lemon Tart
2. Smaller charger
3. SMS Typing with the Power of The Mind™
4. Ability to print money
5. Built-in smoke detector
I can't wait! :silly:

You do know there is more chance of getting shock damage if you drop a phone made of any metal don't you? Plastic absorbs impact much better than metal ever can.
There are rumors of S4 having Tizen OS instead of Android

This might be correct but. I'm not talking durability I'm thinking in design aspect. We are paying 600+ $ for a plastic phone?

Galaxy S IV = Galaxy Note 1.9
Please no, 4.8 screen is already enough. To increase it to 5.0 is better to buy a Note. The actually perfect size is 4.7, from the Nexus. Fits very good on the hands. Somehow, smartphones needs to stop increasing the size. If there's a Galaxy Note already, why should the Galaxy S get close to the Note?

That's not a metal Vs plastic test, the S3 has an extremely thin bezel which offers much less protection, it's the only reason the screen can break easily.
And from a design point of view, so why can I spend over 3k on a plastic TV? Over 1k on a plastic laptop? PS3 was over £500 on release guess what plastic. Its not cutting corners, making things on the cheap it's about making them out of a suitable material, Apple makes their products out of Aluminium for one reason, to drive the price up.
You want proof that Apple does this, The put a 4g chip in the last iPad in the UK, although the UK didn't have 4g. They marketed as 4g although the 4g chip only worked on American frequancies, and would never work in the UK. They were forced to change their marketing and website to remove all mention of 4g in the iPad.

If aesthetics are more important to you than functionality, then I don't know what to say, I like the look of the S3 I like how it feels in my hand I don't need to make it inferior just to satisfy the people who care more about looks than more important things.
Also on the looks if you make the phone out of aluminium, one drop will put a huge chip in it, because aluminium is extremely soft. If you really want an aluminium phone, get your S3, take it apart and wrap it in foil, and bang there's an aluminium phone.

I choose S3 for functionality and all it has inside. Speed etc.
But it's my opinion there are nicest phones out there. Yes of inferior quality with not all the pluses of the S3.
Just hope that the S4 looks as good on the outside as its quality on the inside.
Love my S3.

Honestly you would get a phone made of aluminium and one drop a huge chip in the edge, it will never look or feel as good, whereas with the S3 you would only get a crack, if that.

A sacrifice for the HTC One

Hello everyone .
I'm pretty set on getting this device, unless the S4 comes out with something amazing or a design that looks better. I've had the S3 and currently use a Note 2 but I am so sick of the plastic unmodern feeling and the laggy TouchWiz that is only good to use for the first week.
I'm selling my Note 2 today.. but sadly the HTC One is not out :S. Meaning I'll probably be waiting a couple weeks with either a cracked S3 or an HTC Evo :S.
I was wondering if you guys think it is worth it? I know the S4 is being announced in two weeks but really I don't know what their "killer" feature will be.
Hardest part for me is having a crappy phone until the HTC One or S4 come out, lol.
The leaks are already showing a squarish shape. Same processor ram. 1080p plastic aluminum plastic design.
So its all up to you

Exactly, but the square shape wouldn't be that bad if it is metal . Same with the processor, it's more of how the software utilizes the hardware D:.
I guarantee you won't feel it to be a 'sacrifice'. I'm happy February has only 28 days LOL
Haha, yes, 28 days is a blessing. I can survive 2 weeks.. I hope. Let's go!
The only reason i am not considering the S4 is because its gonna be the usual plastic body that Samsung always have if they follow what they have done in the past with all there other phones, and knowing Samsung they wont be going with an aluminum body. Also I think TouchWiz isn't too attractive looking and S Voice is a joke. Even if Samsung actually includes an aluminum build on the S4, I'm getting the One. Its just way too good to pass up.
I too have a gs3 and going tô ignore s4 for 3 reasons: plastic, touchwiz and sound.
I don't think the leak design of the Galaxy S4 will be final, just like last year. There was a few Galaxy S3 prototype floating around.
But the Galaxy S4 should be similar to the HTC One in terms of performance, just a higher clocked CPU & GPU which the developer here should be able to fix !
The display will be same if the rumour are true, SoLux = Super LCD 3, just 5" vs 4.7". But material wise the HTC One should be better.

First, waiting for a "rumored" phone is a crap shoot. The One Max has been rumored for months, appeared in pics, has received radio certifications, and been priced in China. When and wear it'll become officially available (announced doesn't really count) is anyone's guess.
Here's my understanding of flexible displays. I'd be interested in other's opinions. The "flexible" part seems to mean the display is flexible but at the same time ridged because it's mounted to an inflexible hard casing that houses the phone's internals. If that's the case the only benefit I can see is increased breakage resistance. There's also talk of flexible displays being curved. Other than the "gee wiz" factor what's the possible benefit? Especially on something like the Note-series that you write on. Am I missing something?

Good point on the actual phone not being flexible if it was I would wait but why wait?
And the rumored screen is only supposed to be 5.5 inches
This is from GSMArena today. Depending on how limited "limited quantities" are it could mean a regional release. It most probably means a luxury price tag too (EG: Galaxy Gear). The U.S. carriers picking up a device they couldn't sell in volume would be pretty atypical. I guess time will tell.
Samsung and LG to unveil curved OLED phones this month
02 October, 2013 |*Word out of Korea is that both local tech giants, Samsung and LG, will each be unveiling flexible display devices in October.Samsung has officially confirmed a curved display smartphones, reportedly a Galaxy Note 3 Active model, which could be announced as soon as next week. LG meanwhile, are taking it a step further with their new LG Z series (Z as in Z-axis), featuring a concave display, likely of fullHD resolution. The Z series flagship is allegedly already in production, and is expected to*launch*this month. While both devices will feature unique, non-straight angle displays, they are not flexible per se, as internal components like circuit boards and batteries cannot be made bendable, yet. Current flexible OLED technology will allow displays which require less screen bezel, and will be unbreakable - hence the Active moniker attached to Samsung's upcoming device. Both smartphones are expected to be released in limited quantities as neither manufacturer has the capabilities to mass produce flexible displays yet.

The only thing they have come up with so far is a 'notification' sub-window on the leading edge of the phone. That way you do not have to open the case to see the message.
Given that the S Case is almost as good, I'm dubious of the benefit.
The other potential may be a 'foldable' phone, or one that unfolds to a tablet. That I would like to see, but it'll be a few years yet. Once it happens, we will forget what these old phones were like, and they'll be relegated to the likes of the monochrome LCD screens of the last millennium....
I'll be really angry if the flexible one gets announced next week since I've just paid for the order of note 3

The S4 Active is available from Amazon UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Gal...2241&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+galaxy+s4+active
So maybe don't give up hope yet?
Guys keep in mind that if it will be an Active version like the S4 one then it will have smallest camera etc... just an assumption.

What if the S5 was metal??

Would people still be complaining?
Seriously, over 90% of the time when I see someone with a phone they have it in a plastic case.
The uproar of the S5 is annoying...if it bothers you that much then get the HTC One which will probably end up in a plastic case.
According to AndroidCentral, the S5 screen is now as bright and good as the Note 3 (which has one of the best screens I've ever used), a better camera, and waterproofing, not to mention theyre still one of the few phones to offer a micro sd slot.
If anything it should have had 3GB ram and started at 32GB instead of 16GB, but in every other instance it looks like a solid device.
It does not need metal, but pls not that ugly, even moto g looks better
Samsung is only caring about our money, how to make the most money
I'd go out and say that it looks worse than the S4

The uproar of the S5 is annoying...if it bothers you that much then get the HTC One which will probably end up in a plastic case.
According to AndroidCentral, the S5 screen is now as bright and good as the Note 3 (which has one of the best screens I've ever used), a better camera, and waterproofing, not to mention theyre still one of the few phones to offer a micro sd slot.
If anything it should have had 3GB ram and started at 32GB instead of 16GB, but in every other instance it looks like a solid device.

Waterproof because that's an issue the masses have right? People jumping on the ones who aren't blindly following samsung are equally as annoying.
It should have better material along with a fresh look. It should have a newer version of TW that looks/ feels new and doesn't crush 8+GB of storage. It should focus a little on the sound quality.
The HTC One had a totally revamped design and revamped version of Sense and it only won smartphone of the year. If this phone didn't say Samsung, it would be a huge fail

Samsung has the most aftermarket accessories out of any company other than Apple.
On ebay you can buy a replacement battery door that suits your needs for less than $5.
I dont know, the black looks pretty good to me.

The back cover isn't the problem, like you said most are going to use a case. I certainly will buy the Buckdroid and the Otter Box Defender also don't confuse waterproof with water resistant. It's "only" water resitant not water proof.
I don't want metal. Metal = heavier. I would have like a thin bezel though...
I don't mind the plastic at all. Too many people complain about it not being metal. Plastic is lightweight, less prone to scratches or damages when dropped, and you can remove the cover for the battery/SD card, which is always a good thing.

People aren't complaining because of plastic. The problem is the hype created becacuse of rumored UHD screen, 64bit processor, a giant battery and even the deal Sammy made with Google. I don't know if 3gb are really is necessary or not, I never used more than 1.3GB but 32GB of storage would be nice. Maybe it's because of the new rumored Galaxy F, they say the GS5 will be cheaper than the GS4 so it kinda makes sense.
no, the material is no problem for me.
what maters to me is:
1. back cover design. I'm not type of people who like to use colorful case, I like the transparent one so when I use my phone, people will know what phone I'm using. And that design is not work for me. I personally more like pattern of the S4 back cover. It feels more elegant to my eyes. And don't say those faux leather in note 3. I like it almost. So if the S5 use those like in note 3. I'll be more attract to s5 rather than z2.
2. the battery. It's already boosted 200 mAh from the s4. That's great but not enough. I own myself a S4. It's pretty durable when use power saving mode. but that's where I hate it. When in power saving mode. When I move from outdoor to an indoor place. The screen is very2 dark and I almost can't see it. I don't know about this mode in S5, or the stamina mode in sony device. If same as in my S4, then I need bigger battery for my next phone so I can use it in full day without those power saving things.
3. As like many other people in xda discuss it about when it's first implemented. knox things. I hate when samsung finally use it. I know it's just a flag, but I didn't know how the regulation about that knox warranty here in my country. And if that knox used as one of main upgrade (like that knox countainer in S4 upgrade from 4.2.2 to 4.3), obviously we here can't use it. And make the upgrade less.. useful I guess. Since phone performance will not dramatically change because the phone still have same component

I totally agree. Plastic is tougher and lighter.

The only thing is, who put out these rumors? Samsung never hinted at any of these.
If the phone were metal, it would be metal. Samsung has always used a good grade of plastic for their high end devices and I prefer plastic over metal for my phone. The design is not ugly either, to me it is a decent design but it's also an uninspiring design looking at two factors.
1. Samsung claimed that the S5 would have a new design, claiming they will go back to the basics with this design.
2. The design looks like the past offerings. I understand brand identity, but aside from the back and the usb port, the design almost matches the S4 and a smaller version of the Note 3.
its not about metal or plastic , its about the design it self :silly:

But thinking about it, the resulting design is very logical as opposed to the wet dreams of forumers, it's a mix between the S4 and the Note 3 with a few new elements. As logical as it gets. Not very exciting, but probably a rather good design choice usability wise.

judging by the released shots of the next gen HTC one, it looks nearly identical to this generations.
Waterproof isnt an issue? Do you know how many people get denied service on their phones for "water damage" even though the phones were never dropped in water? I've had it happen to me multiple times merely because steam/rain/humidity turn the sensors on to indicate water damage even though Ive made sure they never got wet.
People can be such hypocrites sometimes, everyone was bashing the iPhone for being the same thing over and over again, then it was samsung and everyone hailed the HTC one, now they are going to release the exact same phone let's hear how they gonna defend that. Problem is its very hard and costly to come out with different designs especially when you're releasing more than one device a year. I don't like the s5 and don't think will buy it

I don't care about plastic or metal but let's face ever since the s3 samsung has put out extremely fragile phones that are prone to cracking. The s2 was made from plastic but it could take a beating not the s3 or s4. I use to see cracked iPhone 4 screens but since the iPhone 5 I see less cracked iphones and more and more cracked Samsung's.
The Nexus 5 is made from plastic but it has a very nice feel and feels more durable

If it was metal then when it falls and reach the floor the repair cost will be double at least...
...the tiny italic text...
Metal is overrated.
