The Galaxy S Blaze/Upgrade Path Thread. - Vibrant General

Alright everyone, you knew it was coming sooner or later so here it is.
There are a lot of people looking for the next upgrade and still unsure of which way to go. With the recent announcement of the Galaxy S Blaze for T-Mobile we all have yet another upgrade choice. So let's all have fun with and put in your input on this new device or simply say which path you are going to go for upgrade.
Quick rundown of what the known and rumored stats are.
1.5Ghz Dual Core Snapdragon S3
42Mbps capable radio
SAMOLED+ screen (rumored to be 720p)
1GB of Ram
SD Card capable (up to 32GB)
Android 2.3.7 (rumored)
At this point I still really want a Nexus but at this rate the GSM US version won't come out to any Carrier before 2nd half of the year at the earliest and if the Blaze has the same screen size it will be a faster Nexus and will be a good competition, aside form having to wait for T-mob for Software updates.
For me the HTC Amaze is not even considerable because of the display and bootloader locking on it. I also don't want the qHD resolution when I can easily get a full 720p display.
I have been debating the Galaxy SII. The two things on this phone that put me off are the low screen res and the display quality issues many have had issues with.
After the Global Mobile Device Conference the Blaze's full specs are supposed to be out and I will wait for that to make a final decision. With preliminary specs this will be my device of choice, unless the GSM GNex comes out for the US with warranty.

This is more of "when do I qualify for an upgrade" so it kind of pertains to the Galaxy S Blaze. Just some information for those who picked up the Vibrant on launch day (July 15th, 2010), signed a two year contract, and hasn't use their upgrade since.
Source: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1681
Early Upgrade:
12 - 17 months since last upgrade (July 2011 - December 2011)
Early Upgrade Plus:
18 - 21 months since last upgrade (January 2012 - April 2012)
Same as New:
22 - 24 months since last upgrade (May 2012 - July 2012)
After July 15th, you're free to leave T-Mobile.
The tiered discounts are percentage based (I think) so discounts vary from phone to phone. The best way to find out is to log into your T-Mobile account online. I'm going to wait until May to use my upgrade to get a full discount. Unless I decide to leave T-Mobile, but I do have 5 lines and no one can come close to T-Mobile's prices.

I forgot to Mention, I will be using the upgrade for my Wife's phone as hers has been up for a few months now. Since she does not care about getting the latest greatest and the Vibe will be a major upgrade for her, I get to upgrade phones more often if desired than the regular 2 year.

Wished I was that fortunate, but my wife claims she needs a good camera phone for her blog and Facebook updates (she has the MyTouch 4G Slide).

I am hoping to pick up SG2 for $0 when i am eligible for upgrade in June.

I got my Vibrant launch week (upgrading from a G1 I got on launch day in 2008). I'll wait and see what the specs are for the Blaze (screen size, etc). I can't see going back to Gingerbread after running ICS on the Vibrant though, so the Blaze would have to be running ICS before I would even consider it.
I had thought I would be in a rush to upgrade as soon as I was eligible for a full upgrade, but as well as ICS is running on my phone now, I don't feel as much need to do it. I'll wait for something really good. Whether that's the Blaze, the SGS III, or something else, I don't know yet.

I have my upgrade right now and I'm still considering whether to get the SGS 2 or wait for the Blaze

The Vibrant will last me just fine until the SGSIII.

Of course T-Mobile will get the GS3. They will get it about 1 full year after Euro Release and at least 3 months after the rest of the US carriers. At least if the GS2 and now GNex are any indication of how things are going for T-Mobile phones nowadays.

I can't go back to Gingerbread either. ICS is way too awesome. Battery life is a day and a half, and ICS Passion is smooth as butter.
This phone has awesome hardware, but I am NEVER buying a carrier locked phone or going into a contract ever, ever again.
TMobile will not support our phones with upgrades past a few months. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...

Couldn't agree more.

Well, Blaze details are out now. Gingerbread and a 4" Super AMOLED screen means its a no-go for me. This is looking like a mid-range phone in today's market.

Not necessarily. It's basically an SGSII with a smaller screen and faster processor, which means it's going to be a speed demon of a phone, with a high res screen. I think it seems like a pretty great option, and I am not going to rule it out yet. Regardless, definitely upper-end.
Any word on y/n for a camera flash? I need one of those on my next phone.

...you...you can't get fooled again! (?)

Im gonna be staying away from this one too disimilar to the international versions and so likely not as strong of a dev community as we see here.

I thought the g2x would be a speed demon too with a dual core processor and vanilla gb. And it sucked.
I'll be on vibrant until something really legit comes out with jelly bean or something.

JB will be a Tablet release like Honeycomb was.
Also the Blaze does not have an HD screen it will have a duplicate screen to the Vibrant. 800x480 with same dpi and everything, except it will be a touch smaller, by .1 inch
I really hope the T999 comes out soon and will have a 4.3+ inch screen. So far so stats look better on that little diddy.

No Trolling,
There was a quite a bit of scuttlebutt on the internet about the SGH-T999. Many thought it was going to the Galaxy S Blaze but now it is obviously not.
Here is one of the many links referring to the UA profile found somewhere on Samsung's site. Here is a link to the news story. http://www.tmonews.com/2012/01/what...-t999/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook

G1 Upgrade due soon

Hi guys
Ive had the G1 since very early on and for me its the first phone that i havent felt the urge to replace after a couple of months due to getting bored with it.
Now my contract runs out on 27th August so im due an upgrade from the 27th of this month.
Are there any really really good high spec android phones (ive seen the desire but its been out a while now so its a bit old) available in the UK or any that are upcoming that i havent heard about.
All I want is a 1ghz processor, 4 inch -ish screen, nice camera and ability to root and add custom roms.
Also what new android phones out in America are there that i can use over here as Ive noticed that in America theres a new android phones nearly week lol
Thanks
You really don't keep up on Android news, huh? Read a blog! Seriously!
At any rate, there are a lot of mid range and entry level android devices popping up, but no serious power device just yet. Lots of rumors about a heavy hitter coming in November, but that's not August.
agree. wait till android 3.0 gingerbread to see what to get. better to wait it out for a few more months than 18 months of regret
My contract also runs out on 26th August. I was thinking to go for the HTC Desire. Its a nice phone with more RAM than the Nexus One.
Patience is the way to go
Wait until September and November... T-Mobile USA will be getting the new high end standard of smart phones:
Dual core snapdragon
3.7-4.3 inch screens
HSPA+ (maximum speed of 21mbps)
Android 3 Gingerbread yummmm
Front Facing Camera
Qwerty
Just to be an asshole.. no locked boot loader like Motorola phones
Blackman how do u know this?
You better not be messing with my emotions Maan!
;^)

I'm curious where you read this as well.
Yeah, i heard a rumor about HTC Desire HD with 4.3" display. Shall I wait for this? Thinking...lets see what happens
Well.... It might just be real
Well I am going to post all my favorited links as of now...Here we go!
**Note**
HTC Vision is a different phone from Project Emerald.
This info may be false but, if T-Mobile pulls it off we have a few winners.

Sorry for the late post. Just got back on this wonderful site.
Ah.
Vision and Twist.
Twist will suck imho. Big internal memory, but sidekicks never were anything to get excited about. I don't know, though. It might actually be a nice phone.
HTC Vision is falling right with the Slide, Evo, and Incredible. Good phones, but I'll wait for the next one up.
Theres also some Samsung Galaxy S phones either out or coming out now.... each big US carrier has a slightly different version... 1Ghz CPU , 4" SUPER AMOLED screen.... I think a 5mp camera... not sure about RAM... 16GB internal memory....some have a front facing camera and flash also... sprints is going to have a qwerty keyboard...
op im in the same boat as you
i have a feeling that by September/ November a qwerty device with a faster then snap dragon processor will be released.
i just wish that there was more info about what was coming out in the future, it would help with what phone i would get now, my g1 is definitely dying a slow painful death lol.
Samsung Vibrant
Sounds like you need the Samsung Galaxy S aka Samsung Vibrant from T-Mobile.

Samsung just gave us a one night stand.

with this weeks CES you would think that, yeah, ok, decent phone line ups. But to completely destroy i mean, ANNIHILATE this precious device seems a little too soon
not so.
Between the HTC Thunderbolt (HAS A ****EN 1900mah battery) and GET READY FOR IT: SAMSUNG INFUSE 4G...
...the nexus S looks like a motorola startech.
i feel used and abused. samsung upped the res, size of screen, added 4g and is added a 1.2ghz cpu and IS THIN AS HELL.
god help me. i PRAY developers stick with the plan and make this nexus S community live a long and hearty life like the nexus one. But i just keep feeling more and more that i jumped on this a tad to fast...hey..at least im still off contract?
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/...ounced-for-atandt-4-5-inch-super-amoled-plus/
The phone does look pretty awesome. However, I'd stick with a pure google phone over an At&T + touchwiz device that will be getting OS upgrades ages after us. Also, I think it is a 1.2 ghz single core cpu.

this is how technology works! Tech is rapidly improving at an exponetial rate, the NS was not a jump ahead like the N1, is the NS life going to be shorter than the N1, oh hell yes
you knew when you bought a NS what it had and what it didnt have. do you really want a phone with touchwiz and that wont see updates for months after initial release? i sure dont.

1) Not dual core. Article says " 1.2GHz single-core Hummingbird processor." More than likely this is just an overclocked out of the box version of the Hummingbird.
2) 4.5" is too big. 4.3" is too big. 4" is perfect.

Pretty sure its just an OC'd hummingbird, doubt Samsung would start up another line just for 1.2ghz hummingbirds....
My first android phone was Nexus One. My second android phone is Nexus S.
Do you know WHY?
Because I want the pure Google experience and skip all of that BLOATWARE applications that makes future updates of Android delayed.
Spec-wise yeah it's awesome, but considering every US carrier is still waiting for the 2.2 update I think I'm gonna ride this Nexus S thing out and see where it takes me. Having direct Google support and knowing I'll get timely updates is more important to me than having the baddest phone on the block for all of 6 months until the next powerhouse comes along.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Oh well, I think that's fine to skip this 4.5" phone
We could enjoy this Nexus S with Android 2.3.1 (who knows it will get 2.4 on Feb? MWC!) ...
And later on Android Honeycomb IF it is 3.0 !
Bottom line, that phone will wait early 2012 to get what we would be getting mid year 2011 (Google IO?) ...
We can place a bet to guess when the old Samsung Galaxy S will get 2.3.1
And believe me, 2012 there will be a new Nexus X ... and repeat ...
So, yes, I don't mind getting not-so-up-to-date-hardware as long as I will get the-most-up-to-date-software !
The only really frustrating thing is that the Infuse has a SAMOLED Plus screen, "that features a 50 percent boost in sub-pixel count, promising improvements both in contrast and outdoor readability." (Source: Engadget)
OP has all his facts messed up,
1) The HTC thunderbolt DOES NOT have a 1900mah battery, it has a 1230mah battery identical to the Desire HD
2)The Samsung Infuse 4G IS NOT dual-core, it's an overclocked Hummingbird
Seriously, why are you complaining, the Nexus S is availble now and using the most powerful hardware that was availble at his very moment.
These phones being announced today are announced models that would be available for people in the future.
And, none of those phones are launching with Gingerbread an they have custom skins painted all over
The phone has a TBD release date. Meaning it's gonna line up with ATT hsps+ release schedule, meaning you can expect this phone to be released near april at the earliest.

Agreed, i tried to live with Desire HD and it was just far to big for me.
The Nexus S 4" is indeed perfect
The Nexus S is all about a pure Google experience, i.e., no crappy skin, no stripped down OS, and timely updates.
It's rather simple: if you bought the Nexus S for its hardware and not its software, you bought the wrong phone.
I didn't get the Nexus S because it had awesome specs and bragging rights. I got it because it was unlocked, off-contract, crapware-free and with os updates directly from Google.
Even if all those wonderful new phones had been available and for sale 3 weeks ago, I would still have chosen the Nexus S. Because I want the freedom. Freedom is more important to me than wow factor and bragging rights.
you guys are right

no your right man, i mean, ive been on the pure google experience from day one. its just that the nexus one's life span in regards to staying on top is simply phenomenal and as the days passed and the devs worked away, it just got better and better. so i thought they would proportionatley stick with the same principles and apply that to the nexus s. and with tech especially the last 2-3 years have been exponentially ripping it up...im just wierded out by googles decision. besides, i think we all agree that...at&t is pretty much full blown AIDs
im only *****ing because the specs being upped so rappidly.
i will still stick it through and stay loving my pure google experience. i just expected google to see the horizon a tad bit further, thats all
p.s your all my best friends and i apologize for the typos and the nagging. but come one, you cant say a slight cringe isn't allowed with such a situation.
@shrivelfig well said man. your my boy
I will say it again, though I must admit I'm tiring of repeating myself in every thread that keeps popping up on this theme. Anyone who bought the Nexus S expecting its hardware to have staying power for more than a month or two was deluding themselves. We all knew it was based on a phone that had been around the better part of a year already, and that the CES was coming up in just a few weeks, at which we were certain to be bombarded with shiny new Android phones.
The only reason I would have (and still would) recommend the Nexus S is because of its vanilla Android stock firmware, unadulterated by manufacturer or carrier. To me, and many others, this is more important than any number of cores or millimeters shaved off the form factor. If you are not, however, a person for which this is true, you will find yourself disappointed by your Nexus S in the very near future.
Well looks like Samsung has finally decided to make an RGB SAMOLED panel... the article states an increase in subpixel capacity which to me means they switched to RGB and ditched pentile for this one. You'd definitely need it at 4.5", the fuzzyness of pentile at that size would be terrible.

Droid Charge and the future (arrives 4/14)

Everyone see the stories reporting that the funny-looking Stealth is now the "Droid Stealth" that will go on pre-sale Thursday (which fits with the LTE cap rumor)? It's got Samsung's next-gen screen, but otherwise looks like our phone (CDMA Hummingbird) with better cameras and LTE.
Data plan issues aside, I'm not sure if this is good or bad for us. The new phone Droid-branded, so Verizon probably won't be happy letting it be centuries behind on updates (the i500 is the last and only SGS without official Froyo), but the hardware differences may make the software of limited value to the Fascinate. Plus it may effectively EOL our device. On the other hand, the Vibrant devs whipped up a working ROM from *their* 4G-variant-with-extra-camera pretty easily.
edit -- updated name and date
If nothing else, a lot of people are going to get free upgrades if froyo isn't out before the Stealth (Droid Charge) is released.

Ja. Good luck trying to get even 5 free upgrades from SF to Stealth out of Verizon....
Thats pretty much akin to getting free iPhones out of Apple.
The Charge coming out will essentially EOL our phone. Why keep a nearly identical model around that no one will want? What's the difference between these? The Fascinate has a slightly lower quality screen, looks different, and isn't 4g. How do you sell that without a huge difference in price?

Well, the Fascinate is smaller (more girl-sized) and doesn't look like it mated with a particularly ugly Blackberry. Could keep it around as the lower-end option.
It'll probably be phased out, though, and with the rumor of the Infuse dropping *next week* we could have 3 of the first 4 US SGS models superseded without a single dual-core release. These will be the first SAMOLED+ screens, though, and that's definitely something.
The question is, what's the i520? And what about the i600?

Not necessarily. The Fascinate is only 6 months old, and don't forget 4G is not nearly close to being everywhere. A LOT of people (like me) won't have it until 2013. So they are keeping several 3G only models around.
At first, before I saw the specs, I immediately wanted this. Now I don't. It's not even dual core. It's still only 1Ghz. And if its lucky, it'll have 1gb of RAM, but it won't. So I PASS!
well this gives us hope.

Why would they give an early upgrade? Also didn't they suspend new upgrades as of last January?
The Fascinated will be sunsetted if VZW feels like it will cannibalize sales of a newer model.
The life cycle on phones is just brutal.
It just sucks that somehow the Fasc just fell into a dead zone of space-time between models.
Older models 'get' 2.2, newer models 'come' with 2.2.
Why can't I read a thread without someone crying about a new phone not having a 16 core processor with a TERABYTE OF RAMM!!M!M!!!1!111oneone?
It's a phone, not a computer.
Anyway, I kinda like it..but from Samsung's track record, it won't ever see an update...so no more Samsung for this guy.
Got a better look at it..wow...as thick as it is you'd think it had a keyboard..Good thing it ships with Froyo..won't ever see a Gingerbread update until two new versions of Android come out.
RE
The only thing keeping me on Verizon at this point is the fact that I get a discount through my employer. Were Sprint to give me that same discount, they'd have a new customer in a heartbeat. Until then, I'm sticking with Samsung (the only company at this point who seems to be uninterested in locking their bootloaders). I'm not really worried about timely updates, since any phone I buy on any carrier is getting a custom ROM as soon as one is released for it. I lust after the Charge, but only because it's got a bigger screen than my Fascinate. Nothing else about it is impressive, save for the 4G which I'm "meh" on. I'm sure Samsung will have something much nicer out by the time my upgrade is available in June, otherwise I might start looking for a (hopefully not locked down) HTC phone.
All I'll saying is we better get a sgs 2 LTE variant this summer!

My Fascinate is jealous
According to the leaked VZW roadmap, verizon is getting the phone sometime in may. If samsung can redeem themselves from the froyo debacle, I would consider this.

It doesn't make much sense for VZW to release the Droid Charge, and then this a month later. Plus, I'm guessing each US carrier will make alterations to this like they did with the original GS line. That would push a release back to the summer at the very earliest. Just my .02
cant wait till it comes out!! IMO Sammy phones rock, even without 2.2.1 the Fascinate is freakin awesome, I can only imagine how much better the sgs2 will be! As long as it does come with Bing on Vzn I'm buying this as soon as it drops!! LTE 2x core sammy phones on the way!!
Wishing my upgrade was due this June not next June. Is it going to have a front facing camera?

This is the International version much like the Galaxy S 9000 vs the i500 that we have. Essentially ours is gimped as compared to the 9000 and likewise our LTE version might be losing some features.
However, this looks nice. Problem I do see is what specific chip. So far Netflix and Sony's next media peice (Playstation Suite) will only work with Tegra2 chips and it doesn't sound like this phone has the Tegra2.
Other than that, this phone looks sweet and I can't wait to see what LTE Verizon's version will be like. Though I'm still considering an eventual HTC as they are better standard UI and better at updating.
I don't see any reason to opt for this. Dual core is a plus on paper, but IMO not that huge of a one for me (nothings really taking advantage of it yet, and it's not like the single core processors were slow as is). I also don't like the larger size (the Fascinate is at the high end of what I think of as reasonably sized... the 4.3" phones I've seen so far look comically oversized... amazing what .3" will do!), and Samsung+Verizon will probably make sure we get it running Eclair just because they like us so much.
Next time I buy a phone, I'm gonna first look to see how mature the mods are for it first, and make sure there aren't widespread issues with any of the hardware in it not working (GPS still doesn't work for me!).
F Samsung to high hell!

How is our phone gimped compared to the i9000 outside of the software department? We are one of 2? phones that have a LED flash for the camera. We don't have a FFC, but then again, most of the SGS phones released in the US don't have one either, so it is a US thing, not an i500 thing.
Samsung is nice, but they suck on updates. After Omnia and now Fascinate, I doubt I will get another Sammy anytime soon.
I'm quite satisfied with this phone, since we've gotten 2.2. I know, it's not official, but we have it, thanks to the great crew that has worked on it. Imo, it has the best screen going, and you can't beat the profile. It says that the S2 will be coming with 2.3, and the screen and profile are only going to get better. If it's a couple months, or the middle of summer, I plan on getting the S2 when it arrives.
I bought the SF launch day. I will not be getting the SGS2 on launch day. Going to wait and see how the dev community is as well as how Sammy supports or doesn't support this baby. Hardware is stellar but thats only part of the equation as we all learned with the SF
All 3 of samsung's firmware engineers have been working on future products like this instead of supporting the galaxy S I. As such, they all should get kicks in the butts.

I agree. From what I understand, its Verizon that is dragging its feet now on updating because they want to integrate Bing. I won't get the S2 on launch, my schedule is I wait about 6 months, but I will get it I'm sure.
Yes they have sucked ass in the update department... but the hardware is pretty nice. The screen is amazing on these phones. I have had to much to drink a few times and dropped it with no consequence besides some minor Knicks and scratches. Gorilla glass is very durable. I'd definetely get one if I could afford it.

Like my Fascinate's GPS
Quite glad I didn't immediately sell my old-school GPS when I first bought this phone, since I can't depend on anything better than cellular level triangulation.

G2 Upgrade

So, I assume everyone browsing this forum has the G2. I really am still in love with this device. The main reason is the physical keyboard. I also know though that there are a lot of phones coming out that will probably blow the phone away.
So what are you guys doing with the releases of HTC One series? Also, what about phones from other carriers?
I thought it would be good to hear some opinions because I am carefully considering the HTC One S with TMobile.
The HTC One S looks like a nice device- the S4 seems to have mostly better specs than the quad core international version.
For me, however, it is missing a few things: microSD card and NFC. If it had more internal memory, then the microSD card would be a non-issue. If I am going get a new phone, then I would rather get a phone with newer features (NFC), rather than a slightly better phone than I have now. It would be like getting a phone that didn't have a front facing camera or bluetooth.
I like HTC phones, but I think the One S is a little too lean on features. I expect that there will be better phones later this year that have all the features I want.

Yeah, what do you think about the Nexus?
The Galaxy Nexus? That seems OK, but since the dual core S4 phones are announced, it seems a little dated. If I had to chose, I think I would wait for a better phone. If I was still running a donut rom on my G1, then the galaxy nexus or the One S would be an easy choice. But since I'm rocking my G2 with Audacity, I would rather wait for a phone that has all the features I'm looking for. Hopefully, T-mo will come out with a worthy phone in the G series.
Do you know what phones are supporting the Snapdragon S4? I thought that was a long time away? I haven't been in the mobile phone circle for some time now.
That makes 2 of us.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)
There are only a handful of phones and tablets that have been announced for the S4 - One s and XL, and EVO 4G LTE. At this point, my dream phone will be released late 2012. The S5 platform is a 28 nm process, so waiting for the S4 will have a lot of added value compared to the current state of the art 45 nm process.
For comparison, our beloved G2/DZ is a 45 nm SoC, while the Tegra 2 and 3 series are 40 nm processes. So 28 nm is the next milestone. Of course, process size is not the only measure of a phone, but I would use it as a benchmark to see how much of an upgrade you'll be getting.
I was pretty set on getting a One S, but the more I look into it, the more I want to wait for a bigger upgrade across the board. The one exception is size- the G2 is a great size and I don't won't to drift towards the phablet area. I want a cool phone, not a half-shrunken laptop.
Im wonder why the G2 is still the last worthy qwerty phone tmo has had. It sucks because when i needed a phone the G2x had just come out and i was upgrading from mytouch slide. I love my G2x but i miss having a keyboard. Now i am due for a full upgrade and still tmo has no worthy qwerty phones.
Yeah I am in love with the form factor of the G2. I also love the physical keyboard. I think a lot of users prefer that option, so I wish they would make more of these options available.
I do wish the G2 was a little bigger though. I don't think that phones like the Nexus or One X are too big, they are not the Galaxy Note after all.
I think I am going to hold off for the end of 2012 for multiple reasons. I will be more willing to upgrade then.
edit: I am actually waiting on TMobile to send me a replacement phone. Mine only boots in to the HTC screen and then never goes past. They offered me a Sidekick for free instead, but I don't know why that would be much better. I guess I research the ICS roms available and move that way until the end of the year. Thanks for the link, and the input.
@gee_one the architecture doesn't really increase performance, at least not directly. It does lower operating temperature and power consumption, which may or may not allow for even more overclocking, and thus more performance.
@joe333x have you tried the htc doubleshot (branded as mytouch4g slide). It's a fast phone and perhaps a decent upgrade from the g2/dz. Although I think it'd be better to wait for a phone with the newer s4/tegra soc's.

So if I read tech specs correctly, you want see much difference from the cpu the HTC One S offers and the phones in the next year or so?
Correct me if I'm wrong but the One S is going to offer the Qualcomm S
4 Krait SoC, right? That's definitely going to last long enough till you upgrade.

The One XL (US AT&T version of the One X) has the S4, and that phone is speculated to be released in the next few weeks. Some folks on XDA are even hoping for an announcement this week, and a release date next week (4/22?). An early test device has already been benchmarked by an AT&T employee, and it smokes every other Android device around, including tablets:
http://www.androidauthority.com/htc-one-xl-benchmark-snapdragon-s4-tegra-3-67678/
if they come up whit One Z, and if it will look cool, might get.
I never thought I would say this, but I think I'll be able to live without the hardware keyboard. I won't qualify for the full upgrade subsidy until the end of September, and while the One S looks like a pretty nice phone, I'm much more interested in what Samsung is going to announce at the beginning of May. Then again, by the end of September, there may be something even better.

Yeah, I have full upgrade as of now, so I am trying to read up on the One S and the SGS3 for now. I think the lack of hardware keyboard will not be too much of a big deal, even though I will miss it. I do like that the SGS3 should be bigger, but overall I am interested in processing power and what will last the longest.
There is no information on who will receive the SGS3 is there? I have started to just live with the fact that there will be new, better technology in the mobile world every few months, so I may just be going with the One S. But Samsung will release more only a week or so after the One S release, so I may wait it out all the same.
Decisions, decisions.
At bare minimum, the krait will definitely last 2 years before it ends up in a DZ esque situation, performance wise, that is. Right now, it seems that it's the fastest chip around, and I really don't see a how android is going to need faster performing devices for the forseeable future.
The One S would personally last me 2 and a half, maybe 3 years. I'm guessing 2 years for the average joe. The krait is a very promising soc and will last for a while. Although, I'd still wait to see what else HTC is going to offer. Still hoping for a keyboard device, heh...
Sent from my DZ.
Yeah, I am awaiting a keyboard phone also, but with my current financial situation I might need to hold off until the end of the year to see what they release and what the SGS3 looks like.
That is in fact the better course of action. Right now it's a really bad time to buy a smartphone..
Sent from my DZ.
I think the biggest draw for me will be stock ICS- when there is a new T-mo phone that has stock ICS, I'll be there. I can flex on the small things like sd card and physical keyboard, but Sense is a no-go.
