Is this a good deal? - Acer Iconia A500

Have the opportunity to get a a500 with a charger today for 225, is it a good deal and a very capable tablet?
This would be my first tablet, otherwise I was thinking of a100 or nook tablet new from best buy if I need to return.
Thanks

Sounds like it
I assume this is used, cause they are ~ $350 minimum new.
On ebay they go for cheapest ~ $230-250.
So if it is in good condition, with no scratches or other issues,
yes, a good deal.
It's a great tab. Been very happy.

Sorry i didn't specify, yes it is used.
Found it on Craigs list.
Only comes with charger and the tab, says he prefers his ipad 2 instead and this just collects dust.
I've seen touchpads for as low as 150, I'm the kind of person that can't make up there mind lol so I need some help.
Thanks

Meh. Touchpad. It does have ICS but only in CM9 alpha 0. We should get official. Your choice.

I ordered a refurb A500 and discovered the tablet would not hold a charge. Tablet was in great condition otherwise. I actually own 3 A500 (2 16G and 1 32G I got from woot a few days back). The rear camera is pretty good. I took some Christmas pictures and they turned out really good. I also use the GPS (navigation). I think it's a great tablet. You'll be able to do a lot with it, that's for sure. With ICS due sometime in the near future, even better.

Acers store on ebay has a500 refurbs directly from them for $299.99 for a 32GB + 10$ shipping. I pulled the trigger on one 2 days ago. My first tablet so super stoked. Prevously only played around on Smartphones. Htc Hero, Evo (My Rom whore) and now Evo 3D.

It runs N64 well, but if you need to hold a button down for a while (like A in Mario Kart) it stops working after 15-20 seconds. Very frustrating.

Yep. $450 for 16gb WiFi. Gonna be thicker and heavier though.
I don't know how much weight my opinion carries since I don't have a Xoom(yet) either, but so far I have for the most part have heard good things. So good in fact that I am leaning towards getting one next month.

Oct. 1 and still no info..

So its Oct. 1 and still not information yet on if and when the TF2 will be released. I guess I will be buying a TF1 and then maybe selling it later on to get a TF2.. I did find a Store in my town that has nothing but the B60's in stock, so that is great information for me.

B60's are rootable, Some B70 with the serial number lower then B70KAS170XXX can be rooted anything above that, cant.

B60 was the last batch that was guaranteed to be rootable. Some of the B70s were, but it's a lottery. B80's onwards are unrootable currently.
Anything B50+ the manufacturing issues of early units were long since sorted, so B60 is the sweet-spot if you wish....
But now, newegg has the 16gb with dock for only 399.. might take a chance of on the lottery with that deal. Man decisions, decisions... get a rootable B60 with no dock or take the chance of not getting a rootable one and getting a free dock.
i say pull the trigger..used mine foe about 1 month + now, haven't really seen a need to root it...i think u're good even if u get a non rootable one..

Get it with the dock, they're ~$150 less than when I bought mine two months ago. You can basically consider it a free dock, at that price. You can use the keyboard with the TF2 when it comes out. Get used to it, love it, and maybe you won't need a TF2 (though Ice Cream Sandwich will be plenty tempting if the TF2 ships with it.)
I think my SN is like 10 numbers lower than the new bootloader cutoff, but I still haven't rooted. I haven't found any of the 3 main ROMs that would do enough above and beyond stock to make me want to.

Well I have pulled the trigger from Newegg, but not been able to root is deal breaker for me since I can't update the kernel to gain access to CIFS, Cisco VPN Client or other kernel enhancement.
Buy it from best buy and get their buy back plan. So when tf2 comes you can exchange it, only downside is you will get 250 back...

I would wait till November or December. The t2, when it comes out will be a beast, but if cannot be rooted, I am not going to get it. There will be more tablet selections and cheaper prices..a few weeks waiting will save headaches and money later.

I've been saying on here for months. I first heard about the transformer a year before asus debuted it. The rumor was asus was coming out with a tablet that also acts as a notebook. And it was coming out soon. That soon turned out to be a year.
I dont understand why people think the tf2 is just right around the corner. Nvidia said they were coming out with tegra 3 at end of october. Were going to believe asus engineers can incorporate the tegra 3 into their device and stamp out the bugs to make it usable in a couple days and ship in volume?
For those waiting for the tf2, keep waiting if you want. You are basing your belief on unconfirmed rumors. You also also believe in unconfirmed reports of aliens and big foot?

Should I trade a Galaxy Tab 7 for a Xoom?

Someone is offering me to trade my 16GB Galaxy Tab 7 3G/Wifi + cash top of SGD$250
- 1 Year old. Warranty over.
- Physical appearance: 8/10 because of some small scratches on the side. Scratches seen on the screen are on the screen protector.
FOR
his 32GB Xoom 3G/Wifi -
- 5 months old.
- 10/10 condition. Placed in otterbox defender case worth USD 90 and Japanese screen protector worth SGD$69
Opinions? Looking at the development of Xoom, it's not really that active huh. Guys I need some opinions Thanks.
The development of the Xoom isn't that active because the Xoom gets it's updates first, and the source for Honeycomb was never released making Cyanogen-esq projects impossible. Now that ICS's has been released, along with the source, I suspect this will change. But even so, the Xoom doesn't need a huge amount beyond rooting and custom kernels, both of which are active projects.
Regarding the deal your associate wishes to make, it's a damn good one. He's after your decrepit Tab 7 in return for his Xoom, which is a far more capable device. So the only issue is if your cool with going through with a deal which will leave the other party at a disadvantage.
Uh... Do it!

That's an amazing deal...take it. There's great, stable roms for the Xoom Honeycomb OS and Android 4/Ice Cream Sandwich is in active development and is already providing a perfectly suitable daily driver (see my signature). Only camera drivers are missing--need binaries from Motorola.
Hell yeah!
I'm a galaxy tab owner aswell, and would swap the tab for the xoom anyday.

Lol. I did check. Just seems to me like the choices of roms for the xoom seems limited, well.. as compared to sgt7's.

Xoom is definitely better than a Samsung Galaxy Tab, especially considering the hideous abomination that is Touchwiz. However, I think you could find a better deal. I don't know about where you live but where I am a quick search on craigslist yielded several LNIB Xooms for less than $300.
You should be able to sell your Galaxy Tab, and then take the $250 that you were going to pay ontop of it for the trade and buy a brand new Xoom. and still have some money left over.
If you are in an area where it's not easy to find high end electronics for sale on the private market then yeah by all means go ahead with the trade...maybe try to get him down to $200 cash ontop of your Galaxy Tab.
Good luck...and BTW we have a nearly fully functional AOSP ICS rom available to us, what more could you want from our devs?

I think the reason there are few Honeycomb roms (though the ones available are very good and stable) is because Honeycomb source code was never released. It's at the end stage. But ICS is going strong!

I don't know why Google made the decision to withhold the HC source code. I think they should have released it and let the developers decide on what, if anything, to do with it. At this point, there's no point in working with HC since ICS is out there but still....
I'm not a dev myself. Just stating my thoughts on it.

They decided not to release it, because they knew devs will try to port it to smartphones and it wouldnt work well as its primarily designed for tablets.
Then ICS was to unify them therefore ICS is open source.

Agreed We payed the money for it and you dont release the source code like with ALL the other versions!?!?

Asus has some coherence problems with information management. XDA has coherent whine.

From twitter this time: https://twitter.com/#!/ASUS/status/164522714994974721
Hopefully they have made up their mind this time. Someone start the two-week countdown
Asus seems to have a problem deciding on when to release the real release-date and for how long it should continue to release prank-dates. The real release of the real release-date for the real release of ICS may or may not be right around the courner.
In the meantime, we could replace most of the world's nuclear powerstations with the whine contained in this very XDA thread. The power of both should more or less even out.
Good times.
Thanks for the update. I was waiting for an updated official source.
Too bad they can't just name a date. End all speculation. 'Mid february' is close but I want it less vague

Yeah, I have ICS on my Nexus S, and I'm super excited to get it on my TF101. Most of the basic interface ideas come from Honeycomb, but very refined and improved. And yes, much better speed.

I just hope the TF101 ICS upgrade does not have all of the issues that the TF201 upgrade. Don't mean to be a Debbie Downer or anything. I just ordered my TF101 from Amazon last night after struggling with the 101 versus 201 decision. In the end it came down to the issue of the Wifi possible not working.

45 days if one is an Elite Rewards member for which you have to spend bucks over a specific time period. Otherwise it is 15 days.

best buy had the samsung book case for free a couple weeks ago so i got the price match. the next week they did $30 off and matched that also. i did very well. i have the elite membership so the 45 days helps. i was pleasantly surprised they did both. i did tell cs up front i already received the free case. they tried the $30 anyway and it worked.
I wish I knew about this tablet a few weeks ago when they were giving away the cover. Finally got fed up with my Nexus 7 (love the tablet, hate Asus) & picked one of these up & installed CleanROM the same night. Love this thing so far. Laggy as hell with stock firmware & TouchWiz but it runs awesome with CleanROM & Smart Launcher. Just realized CleanROM discontinued development which makes me sad but I have high hopes for the other developers who are releasing ROM's for this tablet.
It's now 349.99 at bestbuy!!
price break

"$347.99 - $349.99 & FREE Shipping" On Amazon.
On Amazon+tax free for me. I need a new tablet in 8" so bad, but don't want to rush, will wait for the Galaxy Tab S AMOLED 8" and/or the Nexus 8 to make final pick.
Tempting price as hell, lol!
