Official ICS update - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, just wondering. Will our myTouch 4G get the official ICS update at all? or they will left us behind?

Initially HTC said they would, but tthen the representative said she was "confused" or something. So no I don't think we will get the update.

I just saw a list of devices that will be receiving official ics updates. Mt4g is not on they list. Ill look for my source and post it.

I know it says that a variety of devices which mean more devices than what are listed. But look at the list. Devices that came out way after the mt4g. Also mainly dual core devices.

I highly doubt that the mytouch 4G will receive the official ICS update from HTC. Technically the device is done with its shelf life, which is why i doubt that it'll get an update. It's fine with me though, seeing as my contract ends this year and I'll be picking up a device that will either be updated to ICS or already comes with ICS on it.

According to HTC all phones released in 2011 will get ICS and Canadian variant of MT 4G known as Panache was released in 2011. So it should get ICS update

Thanks guys. I hope to see the custom ROM with ICS but most of them the camera is not working. not just for the MT4G, most of devices are the same. Do you know why it is so hard like this?

HTC glacier??

My phone is due for upgrade at the end of the month. Ever since it was announced i have had my heart set on a Desire HD and planned to upgrade to this as soon as it was released.
A spanner was thrown into the works today when I bumped into some articles dating back to May about the glacier. The spec looks a huge leap ahead of the desire hd but I could not find any recent references to this device at all.
Does anyone know anything about this device? The reports from may say the launch was planned for end of 2010 and that it has the dual core snapdragon. That is all I can find.
Cheers
Tim

It looks like the HTC Glacier and the new myTouch (HD, 4G, and so on) are one and the same.

Has anyone picked apart that ROM yet?
Imo, I would get the 4g if I was on tmob
Wow so they are one and the same??? And I also see a T-Mobile November 3rd release. Bly ME!!!

Futures with htc devices

I read a lot more about the newer htc devices being made not very rootable.... if this is true where do we go from htc? Samshitung or ****ty erricsson? Motofailure? Lg?

Motorola is even more locked down than anyone else. HTC is the most open probably.

This locking down these devices totally takes away from a true android reason for existence right?
I say companies should if anything charge 100 bucks more for a prerooted phone, and cut the warranty in half if they are truly that scared. I would gladly pay extra for a rooted device new out of the box.

The wizards here at xda will all ways find a way, the desire z and hd had extra security and it was cracked. The Htc thunderbolt has recently been rooted to.
It is a worry though I would hate to have to stick with stock. But hope fully the nexus product line will continue so there will all ways be that option assuming that Htc make them from now on.

I have total faith in the people here at xda, but still is alarming that I read this stuff is locked down more.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the current nexus phone a samsung?

Yeah it is, what I meant was that hopefully htc will get to make the next one and not samsung

My Vibrant was very easy to root, modify, and most importantly, restore to stock. If it had a physical keyboard I'd probably still have it. The sense I got from the community there was that it is one of the easier phones to work with (except for the whole Samsung never upgrading it or releasing the full source code).
The g2x is supposed to come with the bootloader unlocked so I would put my money on LG

lg releases source on day one, unlocked bootloader, and gives an almost stock aosp feature out of the box...

Upgrading

Decided to use my wife's upgrade to get myself the new LG G2x. Is there anyone else going to this phone. It is already getting a lot of promising dev support (unlike the MT3GS). Anyone else venturing to this new device?
Well...
I'd like to. Lol, pretty badly even.
Waiting for the HTC pyramid. That will have the most Dev support if that's what you really need. But I'm torn since I despise at&t

I believe that cyanogen posted something on twitter about possibly not supporting the pyramid due to the bootloader with sense. This may be a concern of devs across the board as opposed to the vanilla android from the G2x.
No one here waiting for the mytouch 4g slide?

Want new phone

What phone should I buy unlocked? HTC one X and galaxy s III don't support T-mobile 4g. I really want new phone but don't know what the best phone that supports T-Mobile 4g is? I don't want the one S

Then you are out of luck for a couple of months, unless you want the s2, amaze, or sensation
I was just hoping anyone had a hack or sth for one x or s 3, guess I'll wait till s3 come to our magenta

Can't "hack" a phone to make it support different frequencies. That's at the hardware level.

Why don't you like the one s?
And the art HOX is essentially the HOS with a bigger screen. Unless you go over seas for a euro version but doubt it will work on tmo 4g..
If your wanting the latest n greatest phone I would wait a few months when the next band of phones come out. I am not all to impressed with the sgs3. But that's my onion which is apparently opposite of 9.million other people

have you checked out the Galaxy Nexus? It's pentaband meaning that it also supports T-Mobile 4G as well as AT&T. My friend has it and he gets 4G on his Galaxy Nexus.
They sell it for $400 over at Google Play Store. You should check it out
Yeah I was thinking of getting the nexus. I most likely will wait for next batch though

I guess the sgs 3 coming to T-Mobile after all.

As far as I've seen, an exact date hasn't been announced yet. I signed up to be notified by HTC USA and AT&T myself and I'm sure it will be plastered all over various sites when official accouterments are made - probably before the official announcement is made!
I have a friend who works for ATT, but I'm on Sprint lol she hates that, but we just talked about the phone last night and when she gets info she will pass it along
Cant Wait!
Cant wait to get my hands on this phone
