It's a bare face lie. Just because something says it can do that doesn't mean it will work or be practical
I know for a fact it wont work because the Xperia play is to weak of a device to do it natively you would have to use software decoding and cause major lag not to mention huge battery drain
In the end if you want TV out. buy a Droid X. the best smart phone ever made
(probably the strongest made ever)
it's reminiscent of a IBM magnesium case laptop
you can drive over them with a car and they still function

You're both wrong
Thats not a WiFi to HDMI Dongle. Its a mini Roku box. It only streams stuff from the Internet over WiFi. Like Netflix and Hulu, etc.
And Hogwarts, a long post about how another phone is better and to just use that is just about as useless as tits on a bull. If we wanted another phone we would have gotten one, but we like this phone because it has a game pad. We don't care about the Droid X or any other phone.

We are hoping to come up with a solution, thats why. Especially because Dev units DID have an HDMI out.

I personally don't care about TV out. But the part about "tits on a bull" made me laugh so hard I almost peed.

I don't care about the TV out or HDMI port.
I think it defeats the purpose of being a mobile gaming phone if it is attached to a TV.

Droid x isnt better becuase it doesnt have a gamepad.
No gamepad = just another cell phone = garbage.

Froyo source dev goodies...

The more I think about it the more I smile. Can't wait for an overclock kernel. If were scoring 1100/2700 in bench 2010 and 2000 in quadrant now I wonder what we'll see with a CPU oc of 1.3 ghz plus froyo source code+dev roms. Anyone got any guesses?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Eh, I don't care about benchmarks personally. Ok, so my phone is 3% faster than the next guy's... That does nothing for my experience.
I was just looking at the videos for the next ViperROM, and it's damn sweet. As good as it is, I can only imagine how it would be with source instead of a leaked ROM. And if I don't go there then it's CyanogenMod. That's what I want to see out of the source code drop.
If they can get the mystical TV-out to work... hey, that'd be fun.

Yeah, but chicks dig it and isn't that really the only reason why we have big phones with bright displays anyway? If it comes down to me and some other guy with an Epic (and really, that's what it would come down to), then I want to show that I've got a higher Quadrant score than him...then they'd know who's the Alpha-male.
NOTE: Live wallpapers will also catch their eye quicker to give you the early edge.

Yeah. I was referring to the tv out on the 3.5mm jack. Which would be recordable. Although, you are correct in saying that we didn't get HDMI out either, but that is at least encrypted, and we still didn't get it.

Ahhh, got ya. please excuse my ignorance!
How would you get TV-out on the 3.5mm jack? That only supports stereo (left and right audio channels) and mic. I can't imagine that they would have built hardware into that jack to support video output.
Quite the contrary. Many phones and other devices (digital cameras) support a 3.5mm to rca (simple yellow video/white[&red] audio) cable. Its how you can hook a digital camera up to a tv to view its pictures and videos. I have a couple such devices and cables laying around.

But wouldn't that also depend on how the jack is tied into the phone circuit wise? If it isn't intended for that use it won't work.
Sent from my SPH-M900 using XDA App
Of course. And I have no insight into that, other than people are of the impression that other galaxy phones have the capability and therefore ours would too. There's been a project in the dev section working towards this. Won't link now because I'm on my phone and lazy.

There is a blurry cam pic from the FCC teardown. The jack has at least 5 connections via the ribbon and what looks like 6 solder points. That leads me to believe it may be video capable. It also has the exact same controller that the other Galaxy S phones have (Wolfson WM8994E).
All the hardware is present for tv out. It just needs to be enabled I'm the kernel. Easier said than done.
Sent from an Epic I haven't bricked yet.
Yeh true that. The guy workin on the project, tmillar, even said that its not your average run of the mill 3.5mm. Its another piece of hardware that's run by software, much like the camera...it has its own driver !

The second accessory is a cradle that you can put upright on the table or lay it down horizontally and it also features the Sony Ericsson app. On the back side of the cradle there is an HDMI slot and when you connect it to your TV a respective app is launched. You can connect a wireless keyboard and a mouse (I used SE Play) to get a kind of a mini PC with a large screen. It is very convenient for web browsing, email and other apps and it also supports wireless gamepads for playing (during the demo they used a wireless PS3 gamepad). These accessories will be available in Q3 the prices have not yet been announced. I want to remind you that new SE stuff is more easily spotted in Sony stores.

If you want to use a ps3 controller, download sixaxis from the market. You can pair via bluetoothand map buttons to areas on the screen. It is great for games that don't want to support controllers. Not the best for dead space, since it wants you to rotate the tab and such, but great for 9mm, mc3, etc. It only works well with origional ps3 controllers, though.

Unfortunately the only way to test this game on A500 was to install this cracked version. I always buy the apps I'm using and I strongly encourage that people support the devs, especially when Android apps are not that expensive at all. I also have a collection of programs in "My apps", that I've bought and would never use again....but that's life, in't it
p.s. you have my "Thanks" definitely!
so thanks to this post bringing the game to my attention, I bought it, and beat it, was great fun! An easier and much less ridiculous looking option would be to have a holder integrated in to the controller so that you could mount the phone over the buttons.

And here is another.

Additionally, just get yourself a PSP, Vita, or DS. The games are much better, and if you're going to carry around something like a ps3 controller or whatever, you might as well carry around a real gaming device.
(I used to carry a datel retro wiipad or a ps3 controller to play emulated games.....but trust me, ladies would much rather see you playing a PSP, and even that is a curse)
Seems like it would be better just to pick up an Xperia Play, no?

If you're wanting to do the mod yourself...
I'd recommend instead of "splitting" the controller (which requires additional wires, soldering, and a new enclosure for the PCB), to take the other products' idea and make a "dock-like" style.
The only thing you would need to "mod" would be to add the dock foundation near the usb port of the controller, but it must accommodate the contours of the controller and the phone. And you would need to solder a converting usb plug (from the controller usb to your phone usb, which is most likely two different kinds). That way, whenever you slide your phone into the dock part, the soldered, converted usb plug automatically fits into your phone and the controller now supports the weight of your phone.
well got my PS3 controller today, and bought the sixaxes

Seems like the only easy way for now. Splitting a controller would be intensely boring with a nice chance of failure, need augmented vision to really solve this issue....FTW
I bought one of these, http://www.amazon.com/Breffo-Spiderpodium-Stand-iPhone-Cellphone/dp/B003O1V5CY.
I use my Photon 4G with my Sixaxis controller on the bus just about every day. I found if you bend the legs too much right where they attach to the body, they will snap, and hang loosely. But I called Breffo, sent them my Amazon receipt, and they sent me a new one, no charge.
For me, it's the best solution.
I was using this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw_UBLt-Ckk, but it eventually broke, and it was heavy as hell. The Breffo is lighter.

that thing looks ridiculous lol.
I'll go for the MOGA over that. I'd actually really like to see the Ipega Game Controller take off, since it resolves the lack of d-pad on the "portable" MOGA.
Why do people keep comparing phones with an additional controller to the XP? "My Tablet X with a PS3 dualshock is soooo much better that the PLAY" etc!! It's like comparing an estate car to a car with a trailer fitted!
Yes, the S4 will probably destroy the play performance wise for gaming, but the fact is that the XP is a '1 piece' device, which you will have if you expect to need it, and even if you didnt expect to need it. You will always have your controller available with the XP Even the Archos Gamepad is a pointless comparison as it has no phone function!
This S4 controller looks like a childs toy, and as I don't often carry a bag round, the last thing I want to carry round in my pocket is a 'toy' controller "just in case I need it". Sorry if this offends anyone but a lot of people on here seem to be blind to the whole point of the XP!
Sure that would be cool to have but I would not be caught in public with that.. XD

its crap . totally crap . there's no way in the hell i would bring the gamepad controller with me all the time if i want to use my phone for gaming .
Yes it does
I'm not Xperia Play fanatic anymore
Do you think companies (eg gameloft) Will drop support for xp and instead make it for this gamepad or other gamepads?

I just took another look at this, yes it looks like a toy. And although as I do like the MOGA controller the lack of a dpad is a big issue in my book. Playing RPGs without a dpad feel unnatural to me.
The ipega doesnt look too bad, but I dont see much support for it. Everything now is the Moga, but as the S4 launches I am sure we will see things swing to the S4 Gampad and its Game Center support software.
Still what gets me though is..... with all these adapters and now Samsung making this... now $ony needs to get their booty in gear and release an Xperia PLAY 2, with some good specs. And yes I know people will say it will hurt their Vita sales.... but I have to say despite the Vita's excellent hardware, its not really selling well.
Come on $ony make an Xperia PLAY 2...... for now I will keep my trusty XP as my main phone and the Moga controller for my tablet. And despite the tablet/Moga I still prefer gaming on my XP.
Thats gross

Yes, +1, sony should be making gaming stuff, not samsung.
The ultimate test can u fit both if those things in the same pocket.

I can't understand why Sony haven't made a PlayStation certified controller, especially if they're not releasing an Xperia Play 2...
Honestly it looks more like a toy for little children, than a serious gaming device XD. Imagine you take public transportation and are seen with it...
1 - It is too big
2 - It looks like a weird XboX controller
3 - The actual gamepad might be blocking the screen (look at image)
4 - Too weird to carry, what the heck will the public think.

Oh I completely agree. Beautiful phone. I'm not opposed to larger screens... its just I don't and wont carry a secondary gaming adapter with me. The XP is an all in one. I had a coworker the other day who owns am S3 tell me my XP looked awesome. For the emulators alone. And he said he would like to play games on his phone except he hates touchscreen gaming. I let him use my Moga controller. He said it fills the gap but he also agreed its tedious to carry it around. So I say again.... $ony make a new XP2
