Farewell Xperia X8` - XPERIA X8 General

Hey guys! Merry Christmas!
Its been a full year since me and my partner here met you guys! Xperia X8 is my first android phone, At first i was contented with everything, then i wanted more. I became greedy, I sought knowledge that was never meant to be. I was defying the will of Sony Ericsson. I rooted my X8, installed my first recovery then flashed a new rom. It felt like heaven, having a better android version and theming it all i want. But not all stories go on great. I experienced bricking my phone, i panicked. I didnt know what to do, my warranty was void, then i thought "Maybe XDA Devs can help me". And it was true, i posted in the forums and got a fast reply. I was astonished by how the members here are helping each other. I got my phone working again. I am at loss for the things happening in this forum. Almost every week there come a new rom or update. I was happy, for every addition to the X8 roms here. But lately i dont feel like its the same anymore. I feel like that X8 has reached its peak, maybe its time for me to move on.
So i was thinking which phone would you prefer buying after you Xperienced android with Xperia X8.
Ive got to options. Xperia Neo V or Xperia Mini Pro
which would you prefer.
Please feel free to give your opinion.
I am very thankful for the people here, devs or not. Thank you all farewell. I will never forget this lively forum!
More power to the devs here! Specially Doxianh, Master Shpit, Froggy Furnetal and more. Rock on \m/

yes its been an amazing journey,
i got myself neo v already, but still my x8 takes all my attention errrrtime hehe...;D

I bought mine just ~6months ago. got damn I made a bad decition but I keep reminding myself its my first android ever. Since my contract is made for 2years I'm stuck on this phone. I was thinking of getting a transformer rather than a new phone

Well,i have the same choices in mind,Neo V or Mini Pro???Neo V has a bigger screen and front camera, and Mini pro the keyboard, its the only difference???

I will go for Neo V, much better than xperia mini pro in my opinion

Go for a Samsung guys! Why stick with Sony Ericsson?

yeah thats true, i would go for Samsung Galaxy Nexus or Samsung Galaxy SII.
But the review indicate that SII is better, however I will go for Galaxy Nexus as it is far more likely to get more android updates when compared to Galaxy SII. Google is good in giving updates for nexus phones while you can see that Samsung don't even give much updates, even for some of the good phones.

I'm waiting for my GN too but here's what I've read as I've been following the GN forums for some time now. There are two GN builds, the yakju, which is the Google build and it is an original Nexus, and the yakjuwv build, which is Samsung's build and still hasn't got the 4.0.2 and 4.0.3 update!
HOW DARE THEY BREAK THE NEXUS LEGACY???!!!

I want a Galaxy Nexus!

im waiting for my contract to finish then i will see what phone my carrier will offer me, i hope it is a htc or some good phone

My contract ends next summer.
Then, I´ll look for a better provider (my current one still offers the X8 and doesn´t even offer the S2/Galaxy Nexus/HTC Sensation and all the other high-end devices.
I also think that my next phone will probably be a quad-core phone, I´ve read somewhere that HTC will maybe make one next year.

Guys, if you are on a contract you can still change your phone.. You just have to use the same sim card. Most people don't change their number/operator for years so it's no big deal.. If you buy a new phone again from your operator you won't have 2 contracts, they will update your current one. It works like this in my country at least..

I will vote for NEO V, its better than Mini Pro.
If you think that a cell phone is only a machine for you which must perform good then can go for Samsung/ Moto/LG any thing with better specs. For me a cell is much more than a machine. So I will stick to SE in-spite of their disadvantages.
Look and style also matters.

I ptefer arc S LOL...

Felt good about the X10 today!

I was at a meeting today, the guy next to me had the HTC Evo 4G, looked like a sweet phone, but in the 2 hour meeting the guy had to take the battery out FIVE times because the phone froze on him. In the year I have owned my X10 I have had to do that twice that I can recall. Made me feel pretty good about my trusty x10! Just thought I'd share given all the *****ing about our phone sometimes
That's why I love my phone. Never had any problem with it. Specially now that there's a lot of custom rom out there.
well, after all seems there`s no reason for battery complain
is right where it should be, in battery case
didn`t you tease with the guy? i would!
The X10 is very stable, even with mods.
But the EVO isn't bad, too. Wish they'd sell it here, too. Want at it as my second phone xD

Since I got my X10 last July, I never ever had to remove the battery for any other reason. Never hang or freeze on me yet, knock on wood! He! He!
Hey guys,
I just sold my HD2 and with the money i bought a brand new x10. I deceided to post a thank-you-all-for-the-support-post at their sub forum and they almost ate me alive. I was called crazy etc, now since i received the brand new package and that i have spent almost 3-4 days of heavy usage i can say honestly the following:
1. From the design point of view the device is awesome, fne and classy.
2. The OS is stable and the harware works just great.
3. From the camera point of view there is not much to compare, actually comparing the cameras of HTC and Sony is pretty insulting i guess.
4. The headphones from the pack are great
So anybody can feel free to diss X10, i can say that the phone is great and i do not regret selling the HD2 for this Sony masterpiece.
I feel sorry for two guys: the owner of the HTC Evo and the guy whom opened a thread asking for opinions about X10, but at the end he will get a Samsung (fa)i(l)Phone Galaxy
F*ck the negativity, f*ck SE's decision, f*ck bootloader, X10 rules!!!
X10 is even cooler than ARC
Hi,
From the design point of view (phone sleeping!) I think that the front-view of X10 is way more balanced than XPERIA ARC. Have you noticed the distance between the top of the screen and the top of the heady phone?
OK, ARC is thin on the side-view but phones do not "walk like the Egyptians"
I would expect that the follow-up on X10 would be something like the attached picture... I love the visual balance of the X10.
Bye,
Alex

Same for me, I dun have such problem after using my X10 compared to my previous HTC devices.
The user experience for X10 is simply great, SE has done a good job.

just because U installed custom Rom or didn't update properly. Bad luck for U. But it worth to try that U backup everything ( but no the downloaded from market), hard resest. and try to repair by SEUS. Then if U have 0.24 or 0.435 build, everything shuold work fine
I'm gonna cheat on my X10 with the Arc......does that make me horrible? Lol

Don't get why previous X10 owners wants to get out and buy another SE android device. After the way they treated you with this device. Im not going back to a SE device next time I'll go out for a new smartphone.

Its simple....because some people actually like/love there X10's (myself included) and I do not care about SE and anything they have said. The boys here at XDA have us covered.
The Arc has everything I want in a smartphone....so why wouldn't I buy it? Its fits my needs better than any HTC, Samsung, Motorolla, etc etc.
I don't care about dual core this and dual core that...I don't care about "retina display"
I don't care about my phone having the highest specs possible when released...because in reality, it will be outdated in a month anyways.
SE never promised or said they would give us 2.2+...they have given us what they said they would (except DLNA...bad bad boys for that)
Anyways, I think you understand what Im trying to say...just because your not happy with SE, doesn't mean everyone else feels the same.
Oh...and don't take anything I said "offensive" or "personal"....I wasn't being rude or aggresive
Just thought Id add that before I start a war lol
Yeah youre right but SE does one thing better then all other Android Phones, the Style. The UI and Phone Style is very good i think no other Android Phone looks that good. Atleast this Time they launch the Phone on latest Android Version so its already one good step forward^^ And i dont think they will again do the same like with X10. But i buyed the X10 becouse of the Design most. I could have taken a Desire too but i didnt liked the Style i only liked the newer Android Version, everyone likes other things but for me stock Android is very ugly and alot of Android Phones too. Gingerbread is not that ugly but still not that good.

+1 for that my friend. SE ui is extremely nice to look at. And the phone styles they create are excellent. I don't think they will be late with updating anymore. I'm sure they learned....and the hard way....they were blasted from all over the globe lol.
The Arc is launching with the newest android os....so that's one step in the right direction right from the start. But if the arc was launching with even froyo....I'd still be on board to buy this phone. I'm not to picky when it comes to android os versions.....well as long as its not lower than 2.1.
PS. I'm actually using you cm rom v4.1 right now....excellent work man....tho I like your old ui without the arc style better.
Best 2.2 rom I've tried tho.

R.I.P. X8

Well X8's Golden Era is pretty much over.
What were your highlights?
My X8 was and is a dear companion, I love.
But now with no more development (little development) to be done we are at the end of the road, ready to part company move on to new devices unless you already have moved on.
You're kinda right, I must agree. More powerful OS's have come which the X8 can't fully handle but I liked this "journey" as I met the world of Android. Now I am a new dev, I've made some clocks and I will definitely keep up with it and get further. I loved the thrills of the first root moments and the other hacking stuff etc., making X8 better and better with new ROMs and mods, making it beautiful with lots and lots of themes but... X8 has gotten kinda old.
I'll buy a Galaxy Nexus when it's out or a Samsung Galaxy S II but I will never forget my X8... It was truly inspirational for me...
Noo don´t say that, i`ve just bought my X8 30 days ago.
I have my X8 for almost a whole year and its so good and i hope that it will survive next year too
Sent from my E15i using Tapatalk
You will see that X8 fans development won't stop so fast
Yeah... you're right. I'm not selling away my X8. I'm gonna keep it. You know... This "journey" you said, Chris. It really brought us to the world of android. I'll buy a samsung galaxy s plus maybe. But I'll wait for a day when we'll laugh and get a fully working 2.3. Gonna miss you guys.
In my opinion, X8 is an outdated phone since the first day it launched. Although it was Android 1.6 and updated to 2.1, but it should be a 2.1 phone in that period. After that SE is never update it anymore except the small patchs.
I never saw a phone in my country drop 30-40% in price after 3-4months. The trade-in valve even less than Nokia 5800 Music Express. If you ask me why I bought this phone, it is because it was the best and cheapest phone around that period. If i know it will drop that much in so short time, i will wait for it.
But anyway, XDA and their developers made my phone worth to use. I am not going to buy/sell any phone in another year, although X8 has no better hardware compare to now, but still is a good phone for daily use and small games/apps. A phone can call, sms and surfing net is enough for me. The only bad thing is the small screen, if X8 had 3.5-4", it definitely a better phone for me to use in next year.
Finally, the only thing i hope for X8 is the ICS. It maybe cannot fulfill, but it is the last thing to hope for. After that, i guess we will change our phone for 2years later.
This is the phone that introduce me to the amazing world of Android.
My 1st Android phone and won't be the last.
don't say thaatt~
i love my x8, my first android phone..................
yeah it has been a year too for me too using x8 but i am happy that i didnt buy that outdated symbian phones xda has done many things to our phone
i just hoped that i will get app2sd for my phone thats all but see now we have fully devloped gb rom and if we are lucky probably ics too thanks to great devlopers like doixanx, ratch, gravier(you saved me twice with your flash tool) and all the other great devlopers
even if I buy a new phone I would still love my X8 ...but only if it still alive
Nothing can replace laughing my arse out when people with their fancy htcs had much more problems and lags than me...
Ofc they weren't rooted...

X8 will never die... my first android phone...
My first android phone x16746798
Why I bought it? No I didnt it was a gift..First impresion not so good, compare to the other phones disaster. Then Columbo discovered xda forum and rooting then it was amazing transformation (new and beter custom rooms, multitouch, app2sd, fully working flash player...)
For this price there is no beter phone.
Now it's time to choose, which rom to use...
ahhh...
man, i could probaly see my phones life flashing through its eyes (its still alive dont worry i have 12 more months with this since its a contract im on.)
this phone has had its glory and now os moves on to ultimate stages where our x8 will not be able to compete in. i love my x8, its the first android iv ever had. my dad has an x10 mini so i got the insparation of an x8 from him but how our phone is obsolete. i will Always love my x8 but when my contract is over i will probaly het a xperia play or htc pr something like that
Its been a wonderful journey, but for me. I think my phone can last a few more months and that's it. Thanks to doixanh our phone is better than I could've ever imagened. 6 months ago, I never knew that I'd be running android 2.3.7 on my x8.
I love you SE,
but I hate the updates. You should hire. Doixanh.
Xperia 8 - Rooted - GINGERDX v018
yea x8 was a good phone but had it's grips for me MT was it !! (was a synaptic user)
so i just gave it to my brother and got myself a new handset and comparing it to the x8 it's a BLAST !
Well, yeah... X8 was my first android phone. I learn a lot, but there's still a lot of people here in M'sia using X8. because it's cheap. You can get it at around RM 400 (Around 129 USD).
Pretty nice smartphone. When it was announced, one year ago, I was thinking on getting it as soon as I could. But instead of it I got the Xperia X10, wich I don't have anymore...
So, I got X8 until now. I bought it last saturday, I got it in black with an extra case, black & cherry. It's a really good phone, small but cool, and with a Gingerbread ROM (GingerDX) I made it even better.
However, Im looking forward. If on December things go as I expect, I'd get Xperia Neo or Arc and give this master piece to my girlfriend, who needs a good phone. In case that I can't get one of those two, I'd stick with my X8 until next year when the new Sony Ericsson smartphones come out ("Nozomi", perhaps?)

Sorry to "crash" the party, but I'd never buy a Sony (Ericsson) ever again.
Why? Simple...
- Lousiest support I've ever seen.
They may release the one or another ROM update for their phones, but, in terms of W/X8, dropping support after just a year with lousy excuses like "oh sorry, Froyo won't run satisfactory on your devices and Gingerbread is well beyond the capabilities" is what I take as "****ing the customer over big time".
- Somewhat solid hardware packed into cheap-ass plastic.
I don't know about you but my major gripe with the X8 has always been the back cover which just crackles/crunches when you hold the phone.
That being said ... I wouldn't opt for something else than a Samsung or Motorola. I'm deeply satisfied with my Galaxy S2. Sturdy design, nice looking and so far a great support from Samsung.
That's of course my opinion, your mileage may vary.

I agree with you, SE definitely worst support for their smartphones.
But too bad, i love only SE designs phones.
I satisfy with my X8 now, my daily usages are only Opera Mini, calls, whatsapp and text. The phone's performance is ok for me, the only bad thing is the screen is too small.
I will not buy any phone within next 9months, and since my contract is end on Jan 2013 too.
I think i will buy Arc S for next, or similar to USD 250-300 around end of the year.

SE is all about the design of their phones. I seek performance.
Voting for Samsung, HTC and Motorola!
Depending the price and screen size either Mini Pro or Pro if a hardware keyboard is something you want. I realised after I had bought my X8 that it would have been nice with X8 with hardware keyboard and it seems Sony (Ericsson) thought the same thing since they released the Mini Pro
ray or mini form 2011
m also not very satisfied with my xperia x8, but i still love SE ..................eagerly waiting for sony xperia s
i really like motorola droid razr max because its battery lasts longer.. 3300mah!! that would really last longer..but sad its only for verizon huhuhu..it wouldnt work here in the phils.

Maybe the moto defy+, btw seems that motorole has some models with good battery.

But as others have said, YMMV... It's full of mobile phones out there.

The new Xperias look really good, but sadly they aren´t dual-core-phones.
ATM, I need a new PC, so I won´t buy a new phone in the near future.
My contract ends in November, and I think that until then, smartphones with tegra 3 will be available, so my next phone will mist probably be a quad-core phone, maybe a HTC or Samsung.

Upgrade from Arc S?

Hey guys, looking for some advice. I bought an arc s about 4 months ago to replace my dying x10i and I've been very happy with it, however it's starting to feel a bit dated and I don't know what would be a good upgrade. I have an excellent sim only contract so would like to buy a handset upfront, but I don't want to spend silly money.
I have installed ics and really like the experience, however the occasional lag is quite annoying. I think I just want a decent handset with more ram really, but I think a galaxy s2 would be equally dated in another 4 months.
I just bought an iPad 3 and really enjoy how nippy it is, I've been considering moving over to iPhone for my next phone..lout would have to wait and see what comes out this fall.
I dunno....maybe I just need to be patient but though I would check I'm not missing some super secret , perfect phone I haven't seen yet! Would. A Sony Xperia P be a good replacement for an arc s? Seems almost the same specs but double the ram... Thoughts?
Well as you are now forever locked into Apple as a single hardware supplier for your tablet, are you prepared to buy separate apps for your phone?
If so, then I would look at the Xperia S... If you aren't, then sell your iPad3, buy a decent Android tablet and a Xperia S.
My brother purchased an iphone4, i asked him if he new he would be restricted with apps, roms and hardware, he said yes its not a problem for him. Hes now wanting to be shot of it, every update destroys his jailbreak and it eats into his time putting it back again. In short he now wishes he hadn't gone down the apple route, although both he and i agree its a nice bit of kit just a bit restricted if you like fiddling and playing with software i guess. Each to their own i suppose. I think his main gripe is with the constant use of i tunes software for his films and movies. I rather like the look of that new hyabusa ? Very much Arc looking but slightly more updated specs, not sure it will be near top of the pops still when its launched here but that's never really bothered me as long as it does what i want it too alls good and rosey. More ram and dual core with a bigger screen will have to see how it sits in the hand. I picked up the SGS II last year and for me it didnt feel good in the hand so left it there i know my arc isnt bleeding edge far from it, butt eh screen is decent and it is comfortable, hope the hyabusa feels the same just hope it doesnt come with too high a price tag.
Well I'm quite happy with the stock ipad experience and quite happy to do the majority of my app purchases for gaming etc on that platform.
For my mobile, I don't play games or watch movies often... It's mostly Facebook, messaging, browsing etc. I know I could make do with a midrange phone for that but I like to be upto date and have a fast user experience. The xperia s feels a little too big when I've used it and I worry it will be the usual Sony affair and not be as fast as it should be with those specs.

I saw the reworked arc s, harabusa or however it's spelt heh. That would be perfect but no idea when I could get one or how much it will be

Well I don't have an Xperia S, but I have played with a entry level XPeria U, and it's Lightening fast, so much faster than my Xperia ARC S, which seems to be hobbled by too little RAM.
If you are a woman who has no time or need for Android development, who has no idea about hardware and wants something stable, buy your iPhone now and never look back... Android will not satisfy you, Xperia S, NXT whatnot ....

Errr okay, I'm not a woman. Thanks for that sexist comment though. I love tinkering with android and really don't see the point in having an iPad AND an iPhone, it's nice to have the best of both. All I'm concerned about is getting a decent upgrade which will last me.
How can it be that the Xperia U is faster than the S? That's not reassuring...often phones feel nippy when new and nothing installed. Or maybe the S will improve with ICS? I am considering getting an S as I could grab one for around £200

The remark is basically inspired from what I have seen with my wife... She's a technology illiterate and iPhone did the trick for her. She had a decent android phone which basically "never worked right", regardless of updates etc. IPhone is a dumbed down version of android with no possibility to customize, with pretty eye candy, sold at a premium price ... IPad is the big brother... You catch my drift ... I just can't believe you spent money on an iPad ... But that's just me and nothing personal ...

no problems fella. I just spent the last few hours unlocking my bootloader, changing the baseband, flashing a new kernel and loading arconium v2 onto my Arc S. Feeling pretty smug as I haven't done anything more than root a phone before... the phone is truely flying! Should last me another few months now.
Hurrah!

Sorry, typo, missed out the ARC bit..
The Xperia U feels REALLY fast compared to my ARC S
But then it's got a low-res display, so it's less for the GPU to drive, perhaps???? It's also Gingerbread not ICS....

I suggest you to try JJHIBRID ROM. I was about to sell my arc S but when I tried this rom, I decided it will be good for another half a year.

That was down right sexist. Don't judge the whole mankind by one example. I'm a girl and would never sell my soul to the devil (read: Apple). Love Linux (Mint) and Android, and I'm quite an average ROM and kernel flasher.

JJ's Hybrid ROM 3.2 was a fresh new beginning for my S-less arc. I'm not your average rich person who changes phones every 2 weeks, but I wouldn't even think about selling my arc if it wasn't for the super bad quality of the housing (cracks, etc.).

No it wasn't sexist... .... It is not only one example that runs blind behind the stupid iphone bandwagon... Did you miss the pink otter boxes being sold everywhere for that precious iphone? You are or seem to be an exception...

I see more Samsungs and HTCs, with a bit of Sony (Ericsson) here and there. Apple might aim the female buyers, but it's far from being woman's only phone-friend. And I see you're from the States - the weird part of the world full of parents who buy their 4 yo an iCrapper to play with. I've always found US Americans super weird people.

Truth be told I know plenty of guys, in military, flying attack helicopters, and drooling over iphones... Best they could do is jailbreak it and change the toolbar color... Whoop de doo... I played with my wife's 3gs... Simplified crap. I merely have Sony because all I own consumer electronics wise is Sony... Arc is an ok phone. But even with ion they are behind the power curve... If I were you I'd use that arc with their latest GB... Heck come up 250 bucks I can sell you my arc S. They fixed the Crack issue with arc S... Mine is brand new though

Just to let you all know, I bought a galaxy s3 lol will let you know how much I like it!

i9000 - the smartest purchase ever

So, back in 2010, my wife and I were looking for new phones to buy. I had a Nokia E71 while hers was an outdated SE feature phone, and she desperately needed a smartphone to keep track of her emails. She was hell bent on getting a Blackberry. I tried reasoning with her, and she finally agreed not to get a blackberry, but then she started insisting on getting a Nokia instead. This was around Valentine's Day in 2010, I tried telling her that some great Android Phones are about to be launched, she should wait, or better still get an iPhone.
The sad state of affairs in India in Feb 2010 was such that Apple were releasing the previous year's iPhone model (3GS I think) a month before the new model was announced. I could not let her buy an outdated iPhone for INR 36,000 when she could get the latest Nokia N97 Mini for INR 24,000. I still implored her to wait for newer Android phones.
She decided she couldn't wait and she got an N97 Mini for Valentine's Day . I must say I was also interested in some Symbian devices at the time, but I kept telling myself that I could make the E71 last a few more months and make a call when the newer Androids were released.
Finally i9000 released in July 2010, and I heard the world going crazy over the internet. I still kept waiting, and I finally decided that I needed to make sure that this phone would be future proof like the HD2.
The clincher for me was XDA. I saw so many people boasting of updated i9000 ROMs for each android release that I finally purchased my own i9000 on 11/11/10.
Not disappointed at all. Have you seen the number of JB ports available for i9000? Tell me one phone that was released at the same time and has such brilliant community support. All I can say is, my brother's Desire HD cannot find even a single decent ICS ROM.
Thats right we are awesome. We know
I agree with the great community support. Yet, maybe we are also lucky because it is very much close with Nexus.
Yeah I switched from my N8 to an i9000 a couple months back and haven't looked back. I was bored of modding Symbian^3 it was just so locked down... almost why I couldn't live with an iPhone, they're great devices stock but Android devices are great stock but with heeeuuugeeeee potential.
Go open source as much as you can
I'm always motivated to the open source devices and software
I bought it during the release years ago and I'm still checking these forums everyday looking for something new.
It's still working like a charm and I love it! Thanks for the great community developing roms!

I had mine till today when I got i9300....and fast as the i9000 is I'm blown away by the s3, just plain gorgeous, but I'm hanging on to my s1 as I consider it to be so iconic and will continue flashing it and testing roms and supporting this community cos it is so much fun, it's dead over at the s3 forum, to many serious people!

Was gonna get i9300 last week but when i sampled it in the store i thought the screen was huge. Seriously its like a tablet that makes phone calls.
Don't get me wrong im not saying bigger isn't better LOL!! but a phone is a phone and a tablet is a tablet. So what next the gs4 will be a 42 Inch LCD?
I got mine about 1 1/1 year ago, but was a bit bored and anoyed by all the samsung and telco stuff
so I started flashing about six month ago and I never will go back to stock. I'ts also great to be in this comunity,
you learn so much stuff and it's interesting wat's going on... :good:

What did I say ?
Had my i9000 for about a year and a half.
Don't regret it in the slightest. If my device makes it to 3 years old I'll still be using it as my main phone.
