Wear mark from Dock - Eee Pad Transformer General

Hi Folks,
Well, I've had my TF for a few weeks now and its been great !
I use my Dock almost every day, mainly to provide more juice etc ...
Anyhoo .. i also use a Poetic case on the pad which i rarely take off, even when its docked. Today though i noticed a wear mark on the rear of the tablet and couldnt figure out where it came from .. untill i noticed that its in the same place the dock bracket edge is
It seems to effect one side more then the other (Right side... Left if you look at it from the back )
Has anyone else noticed this? .. The felt inside the dock bracket is still there so i dont know why it would cause it to rub ... and its only been a few weeks !!

rly ... remove the ASUS Model sticker

im still rocking my stickers too its been months

OP: Now that you mention it, I do notice some spots on the back of my tab that aren't as shiny as the rest of it. Thanks for pointing out something I probably would never have noticed. >.<
Seriously, though-- I don't really care at this point. Perhaps I would if it was noticeably discolored.

Why for? I still have mine on.

I have used the dock everyday for atleast 2 months, sometimes inserting and removing several times a day and I dont see anything. Guess I'm lucky
Sent from my Infuse... Love it!

saw the one at bestbuy and that one is marked pretty badly.

I have the same thing on the same side of my tablet as the OP.
My guess is that adding a little padding like a small piece from a micro-fiber cloth on each side of the dock may prevent further wear.
I know there is a felt-like material already there, but beefing up the padding may help. I haven't done anything to it
since it doesn't seem to be too severe.

Im going to do the same :-( its wierd it doesnt seem to happen with everyone though.

Small differences in manufacturing are to blame, its not really something they'd be able to see when making the device.
I also have a dock that does not lay flat when the tablet is docked and opened, it teeters a tiny bit and if it is on an uneven surface it will pivot around unless I hold it down.

Seriously... you are worried about cosmetic issues!
I'd be more concerned if my TF was overusing the battery, or the wifi reception was poor and dropping out of service.
Had it been a case of the screen was coming away from the casing or one of the ports was failing then yes I would understand.
Surely the basic operation is what you should be concerned about... not how it looks.

Well ... Put it this way .. When i noticed it, i wasnt shaking like a ****ting dog!.
Alls im saying is its not supposed to wear like that within a few weeks.
Its works as it should, battery life is superb etc etc...
You may not like your stuff to look good, but i prefer to keep my belongings in a decent condition also helps when/if you want to sell it on ...

1001 Uses for a PDA Stylus, what have/do you used yours for?

Was busy picking my teeth with my stylus earlier, (Yes I know it's disgusting, so don't ask to borrow my exec!) Anyway it got me to thinking what other usefull uses has everyone else found for their stylus's or is it stylii?
So lets hear it people?
Regards
Pick my nose and ears.
Lift up forensics evidence like a police officer.
Clean grout.
Drum.
Show kids cheap magic tricks like swallowing it or pulling it out of my ear.
Balance it on my upper lip.
Twirl it like a mini-baton.
Wield it like a mini-sword.
Throw it up against suspended ceiling tiles.
Mistaken it for a pen when trying to write on paper.
While I'm tapping on my head with it, if I come up with more, I'll post it here.
Cleaning fingernails?
Pick teeth
Clean ears
Balance on top lip whilst making Mick Jagger face
Entwine in hair/beard
Use as a mini spear just like in zulu
If only Michael Caine had said "Dont you throw those bloody stylus's at me!"
Play games with it like 'lose the stylus in between the floorboards then take hours to find it' ?
reset my:
Exec
Router
Laptop
mp3 Player
Set the clock on my car
Save channels on my telly
Emergency splint for a broken finger, always worthwhile remembering!
My 7 year old son likes to chew it, like a pencil :-( now it always falls out of my magician. What I do with it? Well I don't chew it, but clean my fingernails & ears, scratch my head, reset my magician, balance it on fingers & others things etc.
You can so much with it, except from normal writing it's the best body extension I can think of (yes I'm very narrow minded) LOL

The Magician's stylus just doesn't quite "cut it". But they're both cute.
Anyone notice the strange bend in the Universal's? Makes me feel quite >self conscious<.

it does do that, doesn't it.. that strange bend, I can stare at it for seconds.. I'm not sure I get it fully..
it also makes me constantly wander if I'm holding it the 'right way'..

So the size of your nose & the shape of your stylus unreveals a girl everything you don't want to tell.
Hmmm, my stylus is worn & chewed.
My wife prefers the one on her Wizard, it grows in size when she gets it out and shrinks back down to a managable size when she has finished with it.
I wonder if the bend on the Universal one is designed in, so it can be used as an aid to erectile disfunction? "shudder"

There's a lucky man... I must be spending too much time programming, mine is as new
To bring this only slightly back on topic, I do worry about dropping it and scratching the "glans", in case it subsequently scratches the screen. Even with a screen protector, I notice I've still managed to scratch the scrollbar area.

Farewell, my beloved G1.

Well, I just got off the phone with T-Mobile, and they are sending me a replacement G1. Why? My G1 had a wobbly screen. I question whether this is really worth the hours of work I spent in rooting and customizing it and even adding on a ShieldSkin too. But, I know this sounds immensely stupid, but I feel pretty bad about it. Its as if I have bonded or something with my current G1. (and it isn't helping that I am listening to Halo by Beyonce on the radio while I am writing this). I have the choice however once the new phone comes, to choose not to keep that one, but the wobbly screen... is starting to annoy me even though it isn't that big of an issue.
must be the biggest sap on the earth. I went ahead and canceled the order a few minutes ago because I just felt too bad about it.
I hear ya...
My G1 has two dead pixels on the screen that I noticed the second day I had it. I thought about getting a replacement, but I just couldn't bring myself to part with it. I still have it, I just try not to look at the screen in that area when I watch movies or that part of the screen is black. I am actually not sure it would be such a big deal if it was easier to restore. My treo was awesome. Hard Reset, replace it? just hook it up, choose your user name and it was just like your last sync, but I hard reset my G1 once, and won't ever do it again. I had used my backup, thought that it would back up the apps (ie, information and applications) only to find out that it only backed up the app itself, I had to redo all the information in everything.
Well... all my Apps are on my SD card, and I am very familiar with rooting and could probably do it in under 30 minutes if I were to get a refurb phone from T-Mobile... I canceled the order only because, like you, I just couldn't let it go. But, I wonder if that is the right choice, because after looking through the service manual (oops!) I realized that the problem with my G1 really cannot be fixed by me... so I really don't know what I should do.
One thing you hadn't considered is that the screen on your replacement might be wobblier. It's unfortunate that htc went with this swivel-slide design as it joins the two halves very unsecurely. I fear that the problem is a design-level issue, so whether the replacement is better or worse is luck of the draw.

well i replaced my black g1 once because of that, but ive noticed, even when you get a new one, over the course of time (a few months) that damn screen will loosen up on you, its done it on both black g1's ive had, and both white g1's ive had
I was considering doing the same...ive only had my G1 for about 2 months now but from what the tmobile rep said they all do that...he showed me his and his does it worst than mine. seeing he could probably get his replaced faster than me but he still dealt with it just says its a minor design flaw..but im still 100% in love with my g1.
My phone started that loose jiggle thing..like when its closed it can separate from the body of the phone like 1/8th of an inch and it droops down lower than it used to as well. I've had mine since about October I think and it just started becoming loose in the last 3 weeks
Yes this is a problem with all G1s due to the swivel design.
An easy temp fix is to stick something (like leftover screen protector material or creatively folded one-sided tape) underneath the screen on the keyboard portion of the phone on the top right corner (if you're holding it upright).
Well, for now I've actually found a cure. What I've done is actually cut out paper in the shape of the arch where the screw is in, I put the paper arches that are slightly bigger than the arch itself in, making sure that it goes under the screw and it stays in. I did one piece of construction paper, and then another piece of construction paper with a layer of tape on it to help it slide better. Now my screen opens and closes tight! Here are some pictures:

Glass screen is not what I expected W/Pics

Not sure if its my phone and it needs to go back.
At the earpiece there is a flat spot that runs across and then another one just below it.
Seems like the process to get the curve threw them a little since its wavy all over but that is something you have to look for and can look past. The earpiece area is what I am most concerned with. Would like to know if others are seeing this.
would you be kind enough to post a picture?
Probably have to pull out the gear to do that but will be taking pics of the vibrant tomorrow so can do it then.
If you look at the speaker and then to the right and left of it there is a flat spot that runs through the glass from side to side if that makes sense.
Either way I will get pics up tomorrow.
post pic..
I don't see anything on mine.
Here are the pics.

It could be designed into the screen but there is another line under it and its not real pretty when the phone is sitting on a desk and you see that. Guess I am just used to the flat smooth screens like the other galaxy s phones.
Is it like, indented into the glass? Looks strange
Mine doesn't look like that. Mine is smooth throughout.
Ok I see it in the pics. That kinda stinks I thought Google said the design was to be the screen blending in to the phone. Bummer.
Going to the store tomorrow and checking out others. If it was a common issue I would just deal with it. Oh well.

It is. Its a flat spot and I can see why its there with the speaker hole there and the cam and prox sensors. Seems they could make a smooth transition or I got a dud.
Take it back and get a new one.
Seems like a hardware defect, I don't see that on mine.

I also noticed that on the first one I got, although not as defined. The issue I had was with the plastic ring around the screen. It was deformed in a few areas. I returned it for another one. This ones perfect. I suggest you do the same.

I have it too.. but not as bad as yours. I have to really use the glare to see it.
I have the same thing...cant notice unless it has light glare on it.
I think pics make it look worse but you can always return it.
Maybe it's flat cuz of the front camera and the light sensors.
I can't tell on mine, unless i have light reflecting on it (like in your pictures)

Thats what I am wondering. I had to use the light to get it in the pics. I deal with glass all day so see these things more then the average person. The bottom is nice and smooth . but the top is a different story. I wonder if others have this and just don't notice it. I hope not but maybe the pics will help others see what I am seeing and give a definite answer.
Either way I am going to go check out some others at BB tomorrow and will report back with what I find.
It may not be a issue at all and part of the design of the phone.
same here but i didnt notice it until you mentioned it.
No problems here on mine. Weird.

Nope, sad thing is it hasn't. And I usually leave use it the other way down (as per the design of the case). It's cheap chrome plating like them cheap toys.
That sucks.
Is it even chrome plated? That's surprising. I would have thought it would just be a chrome-type finish - not necessarily chrome plated.
Any coated plastic will chip given enough time or wear. Obviously you haven't had it for 'years' but sometimes outside influences can exacerbate that process. However it happened, it doesn't really matter, I guess. You're really left with two options; leave it, or finish the job.
Can't hurt to give Acer a shout along with that pic though. See what they say.

I guess nothing to do, it just bugs me that something so expansive can have such a cheap button coating.
I'm not sure if Acer will do anything.. i'll try. Thanks for the responses.
Take it baaaaaaaaack!
Don't accept shoddy [email protected], get it back to the vendor asap and get a replacement.
The only way manufacturers address qc issues is if they get feedback from customers, that goes for negative as well as positive.
I'm guessing this is the first Acer product that you own?

I guess that's where we disagree.
I have a little experience in coatings and I wouldn't say it's a cheap coating. It's par. What likely happened (if, in fact, it wasn't something that happened after the fact) would be that the button surface was contaminated (initially) and the bonding process didn't take as well as it should - this, over time and wear can lead to micro bubbling (the coating coming free from the surface), and with humidity and temperature changes or use, get worse until it it cracks, flakes, chips etc.
Cheap? No. It's par. You can't really get 'cheap' on that kind of process though you can skimp on the coating material, the process itself does require a rather simple system of cleansing and prep. What goes on it should last for years under normal circumstances. Since you say it wasn't wear and you didn't scratch it, then the chances are high that somewhere in the process, it failed. It happens. It's not flawless.
Definitely contact them.
wow that sucks
Being in the line of work I am in.That is likely a issue as stated above where it was not peeped or contamination before it was surfaced.
Acer will tell you to send it in for repair.I have a new 700.00 HP notebook that some of the lettering has came off the keyboard.very annoying but since I do not need them to type.im not sending it back thou easy they will not just send a replacement keyboard
Its a computer industry issue with minor and cosmetic issues

From looking close at your pics it seems you trimmed your case.the raised off.did you do this while the tab wwas in there.that really could be scraped off.if you did not trim it sorry it just like that way.im not implying nothing as it really does not effect me.

You're relentless, lol
If Acer is so cheap, won't update products, has shoddy workmanship so on and so forth, why exactly are you still here?
You've already stated you're heading for a Galaxy Tab or Asus TF because of many Iconia deficiencies (locked bootloader, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc). When I sold my Gtablet, I lurked in the forum to hear what was going on dev. wise and such but I didn't bounce all over the place making snarky comments regarding the GTablet.
Regarding the OP and peeling of the paint, that seems like a rare deal. I see no signs of wear (or tear) on mine. I have seen other products have peeling issues like that and I suspect they are due to what the others have mentioned, as there were very few customers who saw it in a batch of thousands. If I were you I'd attempt to take it back or send it in for repair at worst.

Exactly my dilemma. I've seen enough reports of cracks to be convinced Sony cheaped out or did something wrong with this phone. But mine hasn't cracked yet and I actually like it a lot (other than terrible low light camera). I'm hesitant to reward companies when they skimp on something and then fail to acknowledge the problems they've created though which is why I'm considering a return even though I like it.
If reports start coming in of Sony fixing the cracks for free under warranty, then I'll be satisfied and keep it, I think.
