so far....would you change your desire HD for a motorola Atrix? - Desire HD General

hello comunity, a friend of mine is insisting in changing me his atrix for my desire hd... my phone is in perfect conditions, i am very happy with my phone because it a great support, and the big screen is something i love, i like how it takes the pictures, and my battery life has been ending from the morning to the night with 20% left...
the plus of the atrix is that it has FFC, its dual core, QHD screen, fingerprint unlocker, and bigger battery, but it has a smaller screen, and the UI is so ugly, i dont know hows the camera, and how it performs with the games...
so what do you thin guys... is it a good deal or should i keep my DHD?

in case of UI, that is not a problem. you can always install a custom AOSP rom or a second launcher and modify your system to your wish. Small screen is only concern. I wouldn't change my DHD for anything with smaller screen. Actually only phone I would be able to change my DHD for is Samsung Galaxy Note, which I'm getting in January

But in performance do you guys think atrix is better than DHD..? Maybe with ics coming? And what about camera?

Heard the atrix has okay specs, but I love my inspire/dhd. love it so much I got 2, the inspire and a euro DHD w/ a dead TS . Like that I have more ram then the atrix and looove the solid build that HTC does. If they made this phone a duel core, shot in 1080p, bumbed the 8mpx to atleast 10-12mpx, changed the lcd screen to something more crisp and kills apples retna display then I'd be even more happier and never change this phone
Sent from my CM7 Nightly HTC Desire HD

Motorola? NEVER!

I have both of these phones. I gotta say, the atrix is a better phone. It has way more power, battery lasts me two days using Homebase rom and I love the lapdock. Fingerprint scanner is also awesome. Games like Shadowgun run perfect on it. DHD has a way bigger developing community though and I do like sense. I currently am using runnydroid on my dhd and can barely make a day on the battery. I did just calibrate it last night though, so we'll see how today goes.

Atrix also has the option for a docking station.
I know it sounds a bit mad but for business users this could be a great advantage.
I can get my Windows work desktop to appear on the DHD but if only there was a way to hook up and external monitor and use a bluetooth kb and mouse. I could then ditch all other devices and only have my DHD for everything.
I think the DHD is perfect other than this (battery capacity maybe too) .

no still loving my DHD until 4 core processor release...

maybe i would, given its amazing battery life and the HD dock... pretty neat features. The quality of the phone is also superb. Motorola makes the most solid phones( hardly surprising given its expertise).
BUT BUT BUT.
their after-sales support fails, outside of the USA. ( if you want to keep it stock ROM,unrooted )
and despite grand claims by nvidia, tegra 2 kinda sucks. No neon instruction support and guess what, MOST HD mp4 videos cant be played(some 480p videos too) unless you re-encode the video/use rock player(may be choppy).
Pretty irritating for me given that i love watching videos.

Well I have just gone the other way Atrix back to DHD.
For music with poweramp Atrix is a fab machine beats the DHD.
Battery life too.
Screen looks better on DHD & it's batter to use.
The Atrix is over rated & the software is kak. Not that many Roms out there either.
I'd avoid the Atrix, or any Motokak handset.
It's your choice but I had Atrix for 3 months & got shut & glad I did so

Don't even mention MOTOROLA. I had the worst experience with motorola services. I own a motorola defy and it's been an year since motorola announced FROYO for my eu phone but it's been more than a year and they are still rolling out. I highly doubt if they're even working on it now but it never came...
And why atrix? you've got droid bionic, you've got RAZR so why atrix....but don't even consider buying motorola. You'll have to survive on custom roms...

I like my DHD, and i don't want motorola

Just ask yourself a question: if Atrix is better than DHD, then why does your friend insist in the exchange?

Nexus s or desire hd?

Am really struggling to make a decision on which phone to get between these 2 . The desire hd following on from the origional desire has got an 8 megapixel camera, screen looks bigger but then would have to wait for ages to get updates when google releases them. So i just don't know what you guys reckon between these two great phones?, i just can't decide .
Go with the Nexus S.
The Desire HD has a big screen but it sounds like it doesn't look as good as the G2 screen or the Galaxy S. Besides, with the NS you'll have the updates first and probably a better community support.
I think the really hard choice is between the G2 (physical keyboard, better construction, good screen) and the Nexus S... But if you're hesitating between Desire HD and Nexus S take the Nexus S.
I think DHD is better because :
- 720p videos recording
- 8Mpx Camera with dual LED flash
- Micro SD slot
- Radio FM
- Notification LED
- Native support of Xvid and Avi
- Dolby Mobile and SRS WOW
- DLNA
- No PenTile Matrix
- Better support for audio formats
- Body in aluminium
- New Sense
- HTC Locations
- HTCsense.com
- 768 MB of RAM
- Fastboot
But maybe i'm wrong.
The only thing i regret in the DHD is that it hasn't front camera.
today i had a chance to compare my galaxy s and dhd, but anyway few things that are for sure better on ns
- screen - slc on dhd is good, but cant compare at all with samoled, period.
- audio quality is pathetic on dhd
- 8mpx camera is plain average, if not worse than that
- no gorilla glass and body has camera part cose of which u cant normaly place phone on anything without thinking that it will be scratched
im rly lazy to white all that down, but sgS is better than dhd, and nS is just one step ahead at least
DHD has everything. But question is does it deliver on all fronts. No.
According to most of the users. Its External speakers suck, Battery is pathetic. U vl have have to cut the functionality of most the things given to get through the day. Whats the use of having them if u cant use them. Camera is okayish. And many issues related to fittings. Also you would playing much much more than what you would be for Nexus S.
Nexus S has few things. But mostly all needed things. Good battery and with googles backing I think whatever is there on the phone should work flawlessly
Q.... Is the MT4G not a worthy competitor??? Seems to me like the MT4G has all the same things the Nexus S has + what everyone is complaining it doesn't have (now). HSPA+, Expandable memory slot, FM radio, More ram and MADE BY HTC!!! Other than Tmo bloat and no samoled, isnt it right up there! So why is no one putting it in contention?? Am i missing something here? (Aside from pure Google. Hardware wise.)
played with the desire hd today, internet was dead slow, its too big to fit in the hand i must agree, its one big and ugly phone, and now with this whole video calling game stepping up, the desire hd, will be lost so will await the coming of the nexus s, in uk.

u mean that nexus will be faster with adobe flash than desire ?DD i am laughing right now......sgx540 doesnt have adobe flash hw acceleration try turn off flash on desire u will see best device on the world nexus is **** sorry. desire has some errors but........
Flash how do u turn it off on desire?
I played with my friend's DHD and I dont like it that much. The only thing I like is the screen size. Speed wise is not that impressive.
I will take Nexus S any day just because of some more important aspects:
- Better battery life
- Super Amoled
- Pure Google experience (no need to wait long to get update!)

The Desire HD is really a beautiful piece of hardware. It just feels like a solid quality phone in your hand.
One thing I've realized using both a Nexus One and Desire HD is the difference in the amount of RAM.
I switch between apps a lot when I'm in the gym, especially these three: timer, RSS reader, JEFIT (work out program). On Nexus One say I'm in the routine page in JEFIT and jump to say timer through the notification bar, when I press back to go back to JEFIT the content goes blank. I have to back out to the starting screen in JEFIT and navigate to routine again to see content.
On the Desire HD, this ain't a problem.
It could be a programming issue. But the way Android is designed bigger RAM equals less frequency of apps being cleared from memory.
I wish Google had more leverage to make Samsung beef up the specs of Nexus S more. Don't get me wrong, I still want one very much, mainly for the fastest update, but the S really isn't as revolution as the One when it came out.
For me it's also very hard to find a decision about the two phones...
Right now I have a HTC Desire and I'm really tired to wait for the latest software updates, BUT... i really like the htc additions.. especially the dialer, contacts app, camera app and sense...
And I know that the Nexus S will have a better community and a lot of devs... so can I hope after some time to see a htc sense rom (maybe when 2.3 comes out) ported to the nexus s and all apps work without any problems?
I'm also worried about the RAM... the desire hd doesn't have much more... and I really wonder if it makes any difference. My current HTC Desire also has about 512mb and I think that it's enough... hmm
Reasons not to get the Desire HD
May not get Honeycomb officially (will defo get 2.3)
Internal and external speaker problems, and very quiet. Internal speaker has high static jolts when calling over 2g. This is also the same for the Desire Z.
Heavy phone over a large area, 160g.
Scratch the metal back and your phone devalues without possible rectification.
Terrible screen, big but blacks are very bleached and also you have a white hue over the phone when viewing from an off straight angle.
Horrible battery cover, gap in the back part + easily bends and warped....
JD
I just went with a galaxy s. Until google gets NFC up and running 100%, the NS has absolutely nothign to offer over this phone. (well ok the quick updates, bt the cooking community is pretty good on XDA). Even if NFC is up and running in as little as 3-6 months, odds are that there will be a handfull of hands-down better phones avaiable with NFC.
Anywho... went used so I can sell it again when the time comes and minimize my loss while I wait for this nexus s thing to be over (either by being fixed or by having the first wave of NFC phones out).
nexus s
played on dhd not impressed way to sluggish battery drains like a running tap lol, audio quality quite poor,,,nexus s is far better, thats my oppinion
I would recommend the nexus s
Everything ist fine with the DHD except for the battery. I've tried every method available now to prolong batterylife of my dhd and still lose 40% batterylife on average use [in 4.5 hours]
But if u live in germany or europe and still want a dhd you're more than welcomed to trade da dhd and nexus s
Swyped from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
The Desire HD was the biggest disappointment of the year for me. The screen is absolutely HORRIBLE. It's washed out and dull. I put the Desire HD next to the Desire and the Galaxy S and the result was so glaringly pathetic that I lost all interest in the HD from that moment on. Sure it has a big screen, but I'd much rather loose the .3 (.4?) inches and jump from generic LCD to Super AMOLED.
I'm rather surprised that so few sites (if any) that reviewed the HD seem to make note of it's terrible screen resolution and color.
Anyway, with the Nexus S being essentially the Galaxy S2, it's almost a hands down "yes" in terms of the decision to buy it.
This is the Nexus S section of the forum, what do you think were going to say? If we thought the Desire HD was better, we would probably have the Desire HD, but since most people who come here, including myself, think otherwise I'm going to say get the Nexus S.

DHD Owners - Trying to work out why we have one

Good Evening!
This is my first thread!
Just wondering what keeps such a base attracted to the DHD... what is it?
I studied psychology and i work as an analyst for the uk government so just thought i would see what kind of responses i get.. plus ive had a gin
Ad far as i'm concerned, i bought it because of the large screen, because it was the top at the time (early december) and i was looking forward to get rid of the iPhone, which was much too limited for me.
And i HATE being limited...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
me personally; I bought to embarrass my sensation friend who refuses to root!
Because it has a big screen and because it takes nice pictures and HD video.
Because it had a big screen, fast CPU and GPU. That's about it i think
it has a big screen.
cause it was a deal! €299!!
Cuz my favourite operator in my country offer ths phone with RM1.2k( US400) with US19 for unlimited hsdpa data monthly,XD

I've been given 4 choices, Desire HD, HD7, iPhone 4 8GB or Galaxy S (at that time). So then, who are not attracted to the big screen and rootable plus fast cpu?
Great spec, nice screen size and of course the artistic design. I chose dhd over sensation.
Aluminum uni-body.
I would've got a desire but I was still locked into a contract, so when I was finally free I was able to get its big brother instead. Rooted it a couple of months later and never looked back.
Because it's the best looking phone yet and the CPU over clocks very well (mine does 2GHz without any problem).. It's that simple
It was this or a Galaxy S (or suppose I could've got an iPhone, as if) didn't like the Samsung as it felt cheap and plasticky, love HTC build quality, and knew team cyanogen would get me root sooner or later. I'm under contract for another year so sticking with the DHD, but I'd buy a sensation, or rather the XE, in a shot better processor and better battery it's a no brainer really.
It was going to be a Samsung omnia 7 cause wp7 was still new and for once I wanted to be one of the first on a new platform but then I found out the sgs and dhd weren't too expensive and the dhd had a bigger screen.
It was the best HTC phone when it was released last year. It was easy to root, and there s still tremendous support from developers everywhere (RevolutionHD, MIUI etc).
And the large screen HTC since then don't really look that different from DHD.
Will need to wait till the support wears out, and a different form factor to consider upgrade.
The battery life is rubbish though (and the stupid battery cover)
4.3 inch
metal body
only £250/$390/€286
I bought an iphone 4 and it was my second iPhone and after about 6 months I had jailbroke it and played with every tweak and mod going, I was bored of it (not enough of a change from 3g) so I swapped it for my dhd as it was the best android phone at the time.
I've never looked back best phone I've ever had.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using Tapatalk
At the time, I was worried about the options between Retina Display, AMOLED and simply a big screen.
In the end, I chose the last one and was not disappointed at it. Then, I discovered the root potential later on and it made my purchase decision even stronger.
good support from developers, nice big screen, HD pictures, felt better than Galaxy S or Iphone. Love DHD

Would jumping to the Sensation be a bad move?

So I do like my Atrix but I have the chance to do a straight trade for a Sensation.
I love Sense and would like a better camera.
Atrix does have 16gb vs the Sensation and its 8gb card, but I hardly have any space used up on mine. Its just photos and apps that are taking space pretty much - maybe 4 songs.
I dont use webtop. I like knowing the Atrix has the HDMI out and for the sensation - it has the option to do it but you need to buy the adapter cable. As much as I like the thought of that feature, I havent even used it yet lol.
I knwo the battery life on the Atrix is obviously better. I would buy a spare battery for the Sensation though and just keep it in my wallet just in case, like I used to do with my Motorola Milestone. The battery isnt very big.
Both have the same resolution and qhd.
The ROM support on the Atrix is lacking, and it looks very populated on the Sensation.
My girlfriend has the Desire which I have ROM'ed for her and its ROM support is very active and up to date for a phone of that age - I can expect the same for the Sensation?
Anything about the Atrix that is worth keeping over the Sensation?
Anything about the Sensation that should warrant the trade to it?
Thanks guys
Tried my friend's Sensation out for a day and he tried my Atrix out for the same day.
The Sensation was slightly laggy, even for such a powerful processor (or was i just used to the smoothness of the Atrix?) camera was awesome and overall the phone is pretty damn good! However, he got it back with a full battery (had to charge it overnight or else it would die on me) whereas when he gave my Atrix back, it was still running on the charge from a day ago, after his heavy use too (albeit, it was nearly dead). If i was you, i'd stay with the Atrix, but at the end of the day, it's up to you.
Only if you don't mind losing battery life...

Was your friend's Sensation running a custom ROM?
I would run ARHD on it and have Setcpu underclocking when needed as well. That ROM is said to have better battery life.
But as far as battery goes , Like I said I would just buy a spare and keep it with me. I did that with my Milestone and it wasnt much of a hassle.
And as far as the lag goes, there are TONS of animations in Sense, which I love the look of. If I wanted a period of time with no sense and more smooth performance, I would just throw on Go Launcher as my launcher, like I am with the Atrix
Apart from the battery life though, any other reason of sticking to the Atrix?

AFAIK it was all stock, not even rooted. We just like to swap our devices every once in a while (done the same with game consoles). I'm not saying it's a bad device though
If your on AT&T your not going to get anything above 3g on the phone most likely will be stuck in Edge. The drop in the phone storage and the battery also not using Tegra 2 CPU which according to some websites and reviews I have seen say that the Qualcomm is about 10-15% slower than the tegra 2.

I am in Canada, so not on AT&T
How would he be the clear winner?
As far as processor speed..
I'm sure those websites reviewed it as stock though, and not using an optimized ROM.
The Atrix is much faster using a ROM vs stock as well.
We all have difference opinions. Some may love it but some may not. Try testing out at places or with a friend and get the feel for it. Dev here are not very active just yet but in mean time they will.

I used to have an atrix and personally.. trading it for a sensation was the best move ever. However, I had to add on a bit of cash
I hate how the atrix recognizes the internal as an "sd card" and my other reasons was because Sense>Motoblur (in my opinion!) and I liked the looks of the sensation more + on top of that, (correct me if I'm wrong) the development in atrix forums seemed to slow down.. and on the other hand, sensations dev is still going strong! I also think that the back cover is 100x better - but, there's also flaws with the sensation cover. Can't say it's perfect
Also everyone complaining about battery life.. my sensation was unplugged 10pm last night, went to bed, woke up with 90% remaining, went to work! Got home it's now 3pm and I'm at 55% (I had a ~30 minute call and lots of texts as well as gmail syncing 2 accounts/facebook/twitter) HOWEVER I'm using a different battery. Look up "Anker". This thing is a beast! Surprisingly, it's lasting very well. I wouldn't say the battery is an issue. With this 55% it will definitely last me until tonight!
Just my two cents! I'm also in canada as well and signal/speed isn't an issue either.
You seem to be defending the sensation a lot as if you want it, its your choice, so just go with whatever you want, everyone has their own opinions.

Well, if he defends it and everyone elses opinions/arguments are better than his, then the atrix will be the clear winner! and agreed with the opinions part!
I am not "defending" the sensation, since I dont even have it; its just that people are saying the Atrix is better but their arguments dont really justify it to the extent of them defending the Atrix lol
Of course we all have different opinions. I think one of the first things I said in the initial post was that I love my Atrix

i would stick on the Atrix bandwagon for a little while longer, we're about to get nightlies on CM7 which means all our devs will be able to work on their own individual projects again. the only reason our development slowed down was because ibproud organized most of the Atrix devs into a group to port CM7 for us; now that it's almost done, people will start building their own ROMs and hacks.
it may take a month or two more, but it'll most definitely be worth the wait
Very interesting question.
Here's how I weigh everything up.
Atrix:
- Faster processor (despite being 1Ghz vs 1.2Ghz)
- Better GPU (more effecient, less heat and THD games)
- Much brighter display
- More RAM
- Much better battery
- Better Touchscreen (Sensation has issues)
- No death grip issues
- Webtop and fingerprint scanner
Sensation:
- Better build quality
- Sharper display (RGB stripe vs PenTile)
- Brand recognition
- Better community
- Much better camera
So it's really up to you with what you prioritize.
OMG totally trade for the sensation I heard the next ROM will support quad core.

I wouldn't say that the Geforce ULP is betfer than the Adreno 220 GPU. Just look at the benchmark results on this page: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4686/samsung-galaxy-s-2-international-review-the-best-redefined/17 (don't forget the qHD resolution on all Adreno 220 phones either). Also the processor of the Atrix is not faster; it handles flash better because of software reasons, but that 0,2GHz difference is visible in Linpack, so I guess custom ROMs would unleash that power with software optimizations. Also something you left out is the lack of NEON support in the Atrix (no .mkv playback or high profile h.264).
I don't want to say that the Atrix is not a great phone - I had it for a while, but then sold it for an SGSII (great decision) - but the Sensation is just better imo.

About to get an atrix, need advices

Well, i just broke my sgs for the third time , and im not fixing it anymore, in fact, just sold it as it is.
sgs2 is too expensive for me, and im thinking in something diferent too. So i must choose for atrix, or optimus 2x. my first choica fas the o2x, but on its forum, ppl said crap against this phone lol. so im here to ask, what do you think about atrix, does it worth?
thanks!
oh hell yes worth every cent !

i like its accessories like the car dock and the lapdock.

This is true, but we sadly do have a lacking development community to some extent. One reason why I'm considering leaving this phone. Although we do have ICS and MIUI on the way, probably in the next month or too. Ill stick around until I had my fun with those. But anyways its a solid phone with good specs that could really last you for a while.

My gf has an Sgs2 and I have the Atrix. The SGS2 only has a better camera( which in my opinion is not a big deal as I love the 5 megapixel camera on the atrix. It satisfies ask my needs) and it also has a gorgeous screen, which again is not a big deal for me because my battery life is 24+ hours with brightness tuned to Max. I love the screen on the atrix although the one on SGS2 is better.
I think that the atrix is the most underrated phone ever. This thing can do more....a lot moee than what the SGS2 can do + it's got unique features like fingerprint scanner.

I would go with the samsung galaxy s 2 for development. The phone is being supported by miui offically and you will get the lastest updates. If it costs to much for you .. you should probably save up.
just one last question: in latin america atrix dont have gingerbread yet. would be too hard to flash an international version? and 2.2 bootloader is locked, and 2.3 is open right? thanks! the version i would buy is atrix mb860
cannot (not yet at least) find out a phone which fits my needs as Atrix
I dont have an idea to make a PR or the comparisons between GS2, Op2X... or so on and the Atrix, but I would like to share my experiences as well as cons./pros of this phone so that you may have more exactly choice to pay money.
- Firstly, this is the best phone which has been offering me the highest quality of voice call, gsm, gps and wifi signals. Such the things satisfied me in the intensity and the stability of radio. I've been owned some other brands of smartphone before switched to the Atrix so that I can surely share this experience to anyone.
- The second pros is the huge battery that in fact impressed me more than the Moto's advertisements or disparagements somewhere out there. With the Atrix, the annoying issue of battery lifetime that I faced before is fully disappear .
- Atrix is so far so good in providing the strong secure ability under hardware level through the biometric sensor which is well known as Fingerprint scanner. Not only adding a mediocre feature of unlocking screen by fingerprint authorization, but it also added valued security options for protecting any sensitive things in my phone such as the business data, PIM data, apps, accounts... Such an ability performs security checks excellently while still keeping no change of speed for me in accessing the phone by myselft. Yeah, I mean that I dont need to enter the boring password or swipe the pattern to unlock the phone or launch an apps, etc...
In special addition, the fingerprint scanner on the Atrix also has the ability of operating as the track pad including the touch click like a mouse when you use the CM7-Fingerprint version at here
- The forth, Atrix offers valued entertainment features. I mean the lapdock and the webtop expansion. Though it wont works for replacing a laptop or your PC, but it offered me an excellent entertainment with a HD TV in games or Web surfing like a PC. Along with a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse, I even forgot I were playing on a phone! Becos it is really like a PC with a huge screen! If you cannot figured out this, just imagine that you are lying at now on the bed for relax with your TV before going into sleep, you always have a wireless keyboard and a mouse somewhere at the top of your bed, just take them and get started surfing the web, or maybe the facebook or anything else including games,... Well, you have the 3 in only 1 entertainment device, that are the TV, the PC and the smartphone. All of them are integrated into one big TV screen. And whats up when you feel now asleep? You give an eye to the docked phone (yes, its Atrix with the multimedia dock), seeing that is 11pm and the 60% battery in charging! Well, just leave it alone till next morning it will be ready at 100% charged for you for new working day. And for now, simply go to sleep!
Still not stopped at there, with a multimedia dock station you also are provided the great convenience in review or backup photos/videos/documents or anything else in the phone to your external storage such as an external drive, an USB drive or both..., just by plugging them through the USB ports on the dock station and using buil-in File Manager in webtop to browse data
Above are things that cannot be supported by another device till now, in my opinion
- For the biggest disadvantage of this phone, Atrix I mean, as my own view it is the Pentile screen. It is really not smoother and glitter than some others like GS2, Sensation, Galaxy Note...
Once you rooted & nlocked bootloader & tried the various Roms you find them to be a much of a muchness.
The stock rom is laggy, GB & froyo.
Rommed it's much better but nothing special.
Hardware it's prety cool, music played through power amp with flac is fantastic. Not much else is outstanding
If I knew then what I know now - I would avoid like the plague - Motorola Europe are pants.
Get a HTC or a Nexus, anthing but a Motofail - I'll never buy on again
Sorry it's bad news
well i came to a new problem now. the seller just offered me an milestone 3 (droid 3 xt860) . the price is not mutch higher. should i get it instead of atrix?

With the MS3 you gain different advantages such as the physical keyboard, the 8MP camera... but at the same time you lost 512MB of RAM compared to the Atrix

The Atrix is a very solid device and if you are looking to go the cheap route, it is definitely a strong option. Keep in mind however, that because of Moto's early bootloader debacle, the dev support for the phone isn't quite up to par with some of the higher profile phones like the SGS2. I would say that the two glaring drawbacks of the Atrix are the pentile screen and camera. When you pay close enough attention, you can tell that there are gaps between the colors, especially noticeable on the battery indicator. The camera on the Atrix is just sub-par. The colors seem too washed out and images aren't too sharp when compared with other phones out on the market. IMO, the quality of the recorded video seems better than the images, and it seems that something in the GB update made both just slightly better, but the camera is still on the bottom of my currently cycled phones.
That said, there still is legitimate development going on for the Atrix, and it is very likely going to get some form of ICS in the future (possibly not official from Motorola). The phone is coming up on a year old, but it's still one hell of a workhorse. My Galaxy Nexus is supposed to be coming in later today, but I can definitely still see myself using the Atrix from time to time. The build quality feels really solid.
The pentile display is actually not much of a problem for me. Anything is okay for me if it saves significant amount of battery life and moreover the display still is more than enough for me. Never like the oversaturated screen on my friend's captivate.

Pentile matrix is really an advanced technology which gives a higher brightness, higher contrast and sharper screen. Hence it allows the manufacturer to decrease the intensity of the back-lit torch for saving power. But, as a cost, the "gaps" phenom is known as the characteristics of this technology. It can be corrected by increasing the pixels intensity of the screen, e.g. to HD resolution, so this technology is really a chance for the new handsets in the future. As for the Atrix, this is a loveable cost for major of people to gain the more attractive benefits that is the less consumption of battery power.

Yes get it. ATRIX is on the list of supported phones for the gta 3 that's coming out soon. Check engadget.

I9000 not for trash yet :D

My friend have bought a brand new HTC evo 3D, powered with qualcomm 8660 1.2 ghz dual core processor. Phone look great, but , trust me, i dont want to change my i9000 for that phone (and probably any HTC). Screen on i9000 look much better(with smaller res 800x480 vs 540x960) , amoled is amoled , multimedia experince is much better on i9000. We tried to play regulary .mkv 720p shakira spot on both phones. Suprisingly htc evo 3d can't play mkv with stock player. Ok, both of us are downloaded bsplayer lite, and mx player from the market, and on the both players htc evo 3d (with hw accel enabled has stuttering problems), but with all players (including stock) on galaxy s video is smothly. Sound in any way is much better on samsung, and video record 720p stutter on evo 3d (fps is unstable) when light condition change, but with samsung this problems do not exist (video is perfectly smooth in any light condition) .Games and Browser on both phones work great, and i cant find big difference. And another thing, evo 3d has 1gb ram (808 mb actually), but he is full of bloaware, and rarely free ram is more than 150mb). this is enough reasons for me to stay this year happy with my sammy, and dont care about ICS, most phones will not get stable ICS before Q3 2012.
Hi 2 all.
wonderful!!!
What rom is your SGS running on? Great to see you so happy!
Galaxy s ftw :d:d
I love my Bell Galaxy S... does everything I want it to and works great.
Rom THS ICS v16
I will use this sucker until my contract runs out in a year/half or until I break it.
Power vr sgx540 ftw !!!
I must agree in some points. But Galaxy S is not a perfect phone. If we had to stick to stock roms then its a really average phone compering to other phones. Display is very nice and sharp, and thats what I like with my Samsung. Other things are more at average ( call quality, browser, camera, lag)
I had a Sony Experia Arc and it was bit better even on a stock rom.
But apart form all the bad and good things is that, you can buy Galaxy S for 150-180Euro ( used ). This can't be beaten, for that price its a best phone on the market right now. Plus you can have ICS on it and there is a big support community.
You may disagree with me. Its my personal opinion.
I have bought this phone after winmobile resistive device, so I have in plans to be with my galaxy s at least when something really different will come again)) For example - something with webtop possibility - like motorola atrix.
I am planning to keep this phone until 2014 It's a great larger sized smartphone.
I will wait for SGS2 port of ICS
Yeah the phone is great, i don't plan to change it soon, there are so many mods/kernel/roms to not get bored.
yeah sgs is still one of the best phones=D lots of roms etc. processor is still enough fast for almost anything

What do u mean by better, smaller 800*480 vs 960*540 resolution? Lols....higher the better.
I have mine almost 2 years now and it still rocks! Thx to the great community here. Thx guys!

I came from a Blackberry Curve 8520 (ugh...) to my first Android experience with the SGS, and I couldn't have been happier.
Everything I've ever wanted to do with my phone has worked perfectly, it's definitely fast even today, and when I was finally starting to get (veeery slightly) tired of it 2-3 weeks ago, I found so many ICS builds (I was on GB until then) that only made it better!
It's one hell of a phone, and nowadays you can get it so cheap that I'd still recommend it to people who want an Android phone but don't need the latest, most expensive one with the most cores/RAM.

So you're comparing your phone to your friend's, which still has bloatware and probably a stock ROM.
I love the SGS, but seriously, don't boost it like it can destroy the HTC Evo 3D until your friend actually installs a performance custom ROM on his new phone.

yes, i say how it look in reality, not paper specification. Everyone know that on paper evo 3d is much better, and yes, i also have stock jvq rom non rooted. Screen on evo 3d (without 3D mode) is nothing special, much better look on our galaxy, and multimedia on evo is poor. I did not say that our phone is best, i know that sgs2 is much better in any way, i just compared this phone with top HTC phone at the moment
Well regardless it's a nice spirit booster... I was just in between the price drop when SGS2 came out... So i i bought the SGS full price but i'm very impressed with it. Running ICS 4.2 and semaphore 9.1.
I was seriously considering upgrading to an SGS2 and compared two different ones to mine as i wanted the benefits of the S2 plus the better screen. But from what I saw although screen resolution was higher on s2 certainly it wasn't as bright and colours didn't Pop like on the galaxy s. Highest brightness setting on s2 also lower than S.
I wanted to buy a new phone a few months ago, untill I discovered custom roms....Now my sgs is as fast as a SGSII wit stock firmware...
I'm going to stick with this untill the SGSIII comes. And if that is not what I hope of it, I will stick with even SGS longer.
As said above, it's an average phone on stock, but with custom roms it's amazing. Only real negative part is the terrible camera and the lack of flash on it.
