MultiBoot System - Atrix 4G General

Over at samdroid forums an amazing dev had made something awesome in 2010.
Multiboot system.
http://forum.samdroid.net/f9/multi-boot-system-recovery-2640/
I am not a dev but yes I am a mod at samdroid, so can some of the amazing devs out here try this for the Atrix, considering we have a beast with 16gb memory and awesome RAM.
Just an idea, not imposing. Please do not flame the thread or me with why dont you try it coz I do not have the capabilities to do so.

i always enjoy new ideas being thrown around, even though i have no developing skills either. regardless, there's already an idea similar to this that has been attempted for the Atrix, but nobody can seem to get it to work. it's called Boot Manager, and we have a talented dev that's been attempting to get it to work for quite some time now, here's the thread he started: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1191014

This will be absolutely amazing! I'll be able to run CM7 and then dual boot to blur to use webtop and LS HDMI!
+1!

[Q] Can someone tell me how to Deodex my phone?

Hey guys,
First of all I wanna say how frustrated I am with how slow the development of themes and roms is going. I'm so anxious to unleash the BEAST inside of the Fascinate. It's an amazing phone with so much potential, but it just needs a few things. I had an Incredible since it came out, and the options were endless with roms/themes/kernels, you name it. Nevertheless, I won't complain because I'm not a dev and I have so much respect for those guys.
Anyway, I'm really looking to port over some themes from a few other different phones. However, from what I understand my phone needs to be deodexed. Can someone tell me how to go about doing this? Any help would be great!

I believe you soak it thoroughly in white vinegar for a few hours, then let it dry and you should be good.

Hmmm, really now?
If you're that anxious, quit your job and start developing fascinate ROMs full time.
I'm sure these guys are doing their best, and it's only been a few weeks.
We have root and clockwork so far, the rest will be coming soon.
Wow, I love how quickly the flaming starts. I stated in my first post about how I appreciate everything the devs are doing, I'm just anxious that's all. I thought by asking a question like this I'd get some productive feedback from someone so that I could start theming my phone. But apparently that's not the case.
So does anyone want to help or does everyone just want to flame me?
Thanks

You guys flaming must be really bored. Of all the posts that deserve a jab, his seemed pretty innocuous.
Anyway, I have deodexed other android phones (Incredible, Droid X) and the manual process was, if not brutal, at least time consuming and buggy. Better to just wait for one of those developers you were good naturedly poking for some advice to release a pre-deodexed zip.

Hey, no need for flaming anyone. We understand that the process is moving slowly. We just have other things that we want to get finished first. There are a few people just trying to get the kernel to boot from the source samsung posted. There has already been some breakthroughs, wifi and sound is what they are working on now.
As for roms, fallingup posted a semi-clean rom. It's not deodexed, but it gets rid of alot of the bloatware.
Matt4542 is trying to get his running and it is deodexed, he is also trying to find a phone lol.....
frost posted a nextheme remix, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788294
I posted a mod to get your lockscreen back to stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791089
We pretty much all work other places, so no one is fully giving their time. This weekend i'm sure we will have some more progress. So just go out and enjoy your weekend and when you come back on monday hopefully there will be some new stuff.
Edit : feel free to join the #samsung-fascinate irc chat room on freenode, its the best place to keep up with the movement.
Thanks so much guys for the info. I wouldn't call myself a newbie when it comes to this stuff but I don't think I'm ready to take on this project alone.
So I'll just wait patiently like I have been and try theming some other ways. Thanks for posting the manup theme and the stock lock screen. Those lookpretty good. I can't wait for a good aosp rom!

Just skip the vzwlbs files. They have issues. Xeudoxus confirmed VZW's ****ty code is producing the errors. Just so you know I already tried this and applying the deodexed files borked my phone. I had to odin system. It may have been my method of applying the files. I believe it's best to do it in recovery. Best of luck. I hope you get it working.
Also had similarly bad success here. Pushed the deodex'ed files back into system/app and system/framework, and removed all odex files except the vzwlbs.odex.
Phone got black screen after the VZW boot up animation.
Let mine run and I am up and running... I also didn't put in the vzwlbs bs. Do I need them for something?? LMK if I am missing something. New to this

[GPL][DEV-Kernel][WIP] 2.6.35 for desirec (DEAD?)

I'm no longer working on this. I've tried, failed, and moved on. It seems that some other folks have had some success. Maybe they will continue on. Between work, family, college, etc. it's obvious that I'm getting nothing done on this.
This is an attempt at taking the work being done for the heroc here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=911828 and porting it to the Eris.
Honestly, I know enough to be dangerous and that's about it. The HeroC (sobe and those thanked in the post linked to above) folks and those upstream from there are doing most of the work. So, thank you to them.
If anyone would like to help, please do. That's the main reason that I'm posting this now. The kernel doesn't even compile at this point, much less boot. (It's hard to boot something that doesn't exist. )
Source: https://github.com/gnarlyc/cm-kernel
So far, here's what I've done.
1) forked sobe's repo
2) copied the heroc board files, renamed the copies to *desirec*, and changed all instances of HEROC to DESIREC and heroc to desirec inside the files
3) started removing heroc touchscreen stuff and adding desirec touchscreen stuff
Why am I doing this?
1) learn more about kernels
2) use some that programming knowledge that I'm supposedly learning in class
3) get an updated kernel for the Eris
very nice, i do wish you luck.
Very good. Glad to see you working on this.

Any work still going on n with this?
This is what we would need to port over the new Hero Sensable Gingerbread right? Man if we could get this working, I would be about the happiest guy in the world
My final exam is on Wednesday of next week. So, I can promise that I will put much more effort into after that. I can't promise to get it working, but I'll definitely put a lot more time in. As I said before, if anyone wants to jump in and help, feel free. There's already one other person (breber) helping, but I think he's been in the same boat as me. So... Hopefully, he'll be able to help more after classes are over too.
Kernel updates are pretty much the only updates I ever care about.
Just an update. This hasn't been worked on as much as I hoped. However, I've had help from breber. Actually, he's made much more progress than I did. The kernel not only compiles, but it boots too! As soon as we can get the touchscreen working, it might even be usable.
Here's the current source.
https://github.com/breber/cm-kernel
If anyone else wants to take a stab at it, feel free. Our time is somewhat limited.
I've played around with adding the capella 3602 stuff back in, but it didn't seem to help with the touchscreen issue. The TS is one of the few components that are different between the HeroC and Eris.

So your moving on from this?

[kernel] gingerbread sense WANTED will donate to make happen.

Recently htc released the source code to make it possible for gingerbread sense kernels. I am trying to push the development community by offering a small donation to push it to happen. I would also like to extend this help with other xda members that would help donate to make it happen. So if you want this to happen post here stating you'll donate to the developer that makes it happen first.

I know. I wish they would open up applications again. I think I help out and contribute enough, but you never know with XDA. Lol. Even more that you and Nils were denied recognized developer status which is such a shame. I would be happy to help moderate in any forum, but the DInc and Eris forums are my home. Maybe they'll open up applications again soon.

I ran Synergy for a while.... loved the ROM... but yeah, I'm one of the few who actually uses the multitouch (play a ton of Genesis and GBA on my phone). GPU + made a huge difference for 3d graphics framerates, smartass was a noticeable increase in battery life. On my custom Froyo ROM with incredikernel, the phone is rock solid stable, fast, smooth, everything works, and I can go WEEKS without a freeze, lock up, reboot, battery pull, etc.....
I don't feel like I'm missing out THAT badly, but, yeah once a custom kernel that does all that comes out, Synergy ROM here I come.

[ANDROID] How to Install Gingerbread 2.3.5 on HP Touchpad - Touchdroid Build

Big happenings recently in the Touchpad realm. Touchdroid, one of the groups who was developing Android for the HP Touchpad, has decided to release a dump of their build, along with instructions on how to install it. I have recorded my own installation in hopes that others might benefit from it.
Two things:
1. Please follow the steps listed here http://touch-droid.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2
2. Be aware that this is not the Cyanogenmod version, and there are a few items that are not quite working yet.
Here is the link to the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhWVmMYquYY
Happy Flashing!
Now, the usual disclaimer: If this bricks your Touchpad.... bummer, dude.
Also, I am aware that an amazing build will eventually be released from Cyanogen. I am excited about this. The touchdroid build is just to tinker with.
:::UPDATE:::
If you want to uninstall this, here is a video explaining how:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKRp3ldtAjU
agreed. Even if their devteam is knowledgeable I will not install their port because of the logs I've read.
Craig
This is the beginning of it all...^^ Android is damn near now... thx!
Please keep in mind that this build is incomplete and buggy. That being the case, this is only recommended to those that care less about the source (we already know all about that) and more about tinkering with it. Use it if you like, but keep the arguments out. Thanks.
Interesting, although its VERY incomplete. I can only surmise that this is a "just to get it out there" kind of thing.

The comments on the video are already entertaining.
People, if you don't have any idea what this is, where it comes from, or why it's being posted..... DON'T INSTALL IT!!!!
If some idiot (me ) puts a video on the intertubes, it does NOT mean that you need to follow it. Watch it, learn from it, but if you don't like the outcome.....DON'T INSTALL IT!!!!!
Also, I total get why people bail from giving even the smallest amount of help to others. Nobody asked me to do this video, I just saw a need for it and made it. And... I'll do it again once cyanogen's stuff comes out for it.
Haters gonna hate, I guess.

How did you go back to previous screen without back button?
Also does anyone know if once the CM version is released the flashing process might be a little easier for the average user? I am not too comfortable with entering commands everywhere. reverend made it look easy because he was obviously familiar with entering command prompts. Either way I will be attempting it, just thought I would ask.

CM's release will be soon enough and will be fool proof. Unless you're reasonably familiar with the Linux terminal and ADB you're probably better off waiting. There's not much properly working on this version. You'll install it, play for ten minutes and them have to go back to waiting for a proper release. This is pre-alpha.

you can see he shot over adb commands
after have following the drama, around the stolen/lost code, I really think people should stop there personal [mod edit], and focus on getting android to the tp. As I see it this, android dump, is touchdrods way of saing: We [mod edit] up, and we are sorry. I also understand that they are stopping the project. So lets all stop the flaming, and wait for the CM, or another teams build! Just my 5 cents
Whats the point of tinkering with the Touchdroid build when the team has disbanded. I would stay away from this build since the CyanogenMod seems to be way ahead of the Touchdroid team anyways.

issent the point, that other teams can see touchdrods build, and use what they can from it. Like small twinks and stuff like that.
So, I'm going to try to bring this thread back on topic so,
for those of you still navigating using adb or whatever, Button Savior works great. Download it, adb install it.
Has anyone tried to install the back and home buttons from an app on the market yet?

now, we know, we never get a 3.X kernel from moto, so, we must help us at our own, i asked me, how?
my idea was, what abei the LG P990, i heard, there are 3.x kernel, no officiel, i know.
What are the hardware differences at the LG and the atrix? fingerprint and camera, i know, but what about the rest?
it it identicly? is it possible, that we can work with it? at beginning, without camera and fingerprint?
perhaps we found an other device with an identicly camera and 3.x kernel, perhaps we can look in a direction like that? only moto bashing wont help anyway

i hope any dev get give informations to me?
the developers already know that moto left us behind..
they're talking about it and what they are going to do??..just the time will tell us...we have to wait hehe
I'm not a developer but sometimes i asked then about start the work from some other similar device's kernel (same that you're suggesting here)..they told that it's an idea but should be necessary a massive rewriting...so it's not easy and they will need time even if the device is similar..
thats the point, i think we don't have any other chance, similar devices kernel, or from scratch, the second is the option which needs more time, i think
i wanne call me a developer, nothing in comparsion with our big ones but i would like to help your devs and i think, i'm not the only one, but i don't know how - i know that is many work and needs massive rewriting, but it's our only option.
i only hope some devs would found together and can say, how we, the, i wanne call it "non-kernel-hackers" , can help.

Why Defy can use Froyo kernel for CM9?
Why Defy can use GB kernel for CM10?
Why Defy bootloader is locked but still have a better development?
Defy also only have GB, no ICS

I'm not sure if you noticed but the defy and the atrix are two very different phones.

Its not as simple as that. Each device is different regardless of the OS. If you think our devs aren't good enough or they aren't trying hard enough then I'm sure you know exactly how to do it so just try yourself .

Hi quarx!
I want to ask you something...how you do to make hwa work on jb for defy?...I ask this because in atrix forum we are mad cos motorola **** us not releasen ICS...
So I think...in first time the problem on defy was the locked bootloader...but you get it work. Atrix has an unlocked bootloader..and we have Nvidia drivers...and I think there is a phone using the same tegra chip on a 2.x kernel...soooo its possible to make something?
If the answer is YES...and you know how to do it...maybe the atrix comunity can donate to you to buy an atrix...
Sorry for the bad english...and I wait for your answer..thank in advance!

You need update EGL libs and kernel drvier for this libs.
Hwa should work automatically.

Exactly!
Just hope someone can make a smooth CM7 with all the best tweats.
Actually, the stock ROM is quite reliable as daily driver.

base gb on cm7 or miui
Thread moved to general and cleaned.
There will be no more flaming here.....
I know of a dev that might be able to help us, as he has made CM10 stable Kernels for many devices and might be able to help us. He goes by the name of Hashcode, I'd link to a profile but I'm on mobile at the moment x.x

i worte a message to him, i hope he can help us
i'm glad, that this thread went to the direction i thought about at starting it
Anyway, i think that our best chances is to raise a found, by donating, and offer it as a bounty for the first dev to create a 3.x kernel for our device. We might find someone that way. Create that kernel takes lots of time and skills. Very very few people are willing to invest all the time required for free.

I too have sent Hashcode a message asking for possible assistance. I told him we would be willing to donate to the cause.
If you can organise a decent fund/development device, I'd recommend contacting TripNRaVeR. He has experience porting the vanilla 3.1.10 Tegra kernel code to a new device (the One X, which shipped with 2.6.39) hence he's probably already halfway there with knowing where to go next. It looks like LG and Sammy have ditched DVFS in their 3.1.10 releases on the Galaxy R and O2X, which would be nice (using standard governors )
