[kernel] gingerbread sense WANTED will donate to make happen. - Droid Incredible General

Recently htc released the source code to make it possible for gingerbread sense kernels. I am trying to push the development community by offering a small donation to push it to happen. I would also like to extend this help with other xda members that would help donate to make it happen. So if you want this to happen post here stating you'll donate to the developer that makes it happen first.

For real, but this thread kinda shows that whole newbie/consumer concept that iron fist is trying to battle. Lol

I seem to recall that open sense code does not work

no offense to the mods but they dont do a very good job at enforcing it...and no mods even hang out on the inc forums anymore so i dont see how it matters as long as this doesnt become a thread of flames i think this is sort of productive...

open sense is a piece of crap htc screwed us with that but the htc evo 4g kernel source code is something we could possibly use since we both have qsd8k platform

Oh, I though he was talking about opensense because he said release by HTC. But that could work I suppose. Maybe this will fix the sense kernel issues
I also think as long as this remains on topic, ie people voicing support, I don't think this violates iron fist. Its not like we are demanding anything, were offering a nudge

I know. I wish they would open up applications again. I think I help out and contribute enough, but you never know with XDA. Lol. Even more that you and Nils were denied recognized developer status which is such a shame. I would be happy to help moderate in any forum, but the DInc and Eris forums are my home. Maybe they'll open up applications again soon.

I'm working on a port of the evo gingersense kernel to inc. with some pointers from chad I got it compiled but haven't gotten it to boot yet. IF I get it booted I will post it for testing.

for any dev that might work on this, if possible can you please include the following features:
- 5 pt. multitouch
- GPU +
- Smartass governor
- HAVS and/or sysfs
I.e.: the features that make incredikernel so damn awesome these features... or rather, lack thereof, are why I am still stuck on Froyo, as awesome as some of the 2.1/3.0 gingersense ROMS are...

If your staying on froyo because of those, your missing out. The leaked kernel is pretty good, the roms are awesome.

I ran Synergy for a while.... loved the ROM... but yeah, I'm one of the few who actually uses the multitouch (play a ton of Genesis and GBA on my phone). GPU + made a huge difference for 3d graphics framerates, smartass was a noticeable increase in battery life. On my custom Froyo ROM with incredikernel, the phone is rock solid stable, fast, smooth, everything works, and I can go WEEKS without a freeze, lock up, reboot, battery pull, etc.....
I don't feel like I'm missing out THAT badly, but, yeah once a custom kernel that does all that comes out, Synergy ROM here I come.

Good luck on porting that Evo kernel tiny. That would be HUGE for all of us.

Actually, smartass is available as a loadable module for gingerbread sense.
See this link:

Most of the rest of the requests will need a working kernel with source (or ported kernel).

...nevermind, sorry guys

tiny that would be awesome if you could get it to boot. joelz glad to see a powerful xda member supporting this. you probably remember me joelz when I started the thread to keep people up to date about your ROM on here when you left. glad we have your backing on this. it would make your ROMS that much sweeter if we can get this done. so my donantion starts out at 5 bucks to the developer that shows work in progress. let me know! and lets get this done!

[Q] Is there any Kernel that can run like SnapTurbo?

So far, you can only run 7.6 Snapturbo on Cyanogenmod Roms !! I tried CM6 but I did not really have a good feel to It.. im more of a Sense type of guy, Im really in love though with the 7.6 Snapturbo That CM6 is capable of running.. I ran it and hit a 2300 on my Quadrant!! WOW!!
Only thing is i dont really like the CM6 interface/skins/themes/ etc..
I like how all my e-mails and contacts are synced in the Fresh Rom/every other Rom
MY question is..
Is there another Kernel that runs like 7.6 Snapturbo?? If so which one and is it possible to run it on Fresh Rom or Similar Roms
Im familiar with Virus Rom aswell as i used to have that one prior to Fresh
If someone can point me in the right Direction I would Greatly Appreciate it
I don't know of any Sense roms that run Turbo.
Development??
Is there talk about one being developed ?? why is it that only CM6 is capable of running it?? what does it have that the other do not?
the developer only released it for cm6, and he will not release the code for turbo, so it will not be seen in a sense rom anytime soon, unless the developer changes his mind.

And I guarantee you he never will.
OP, have you tried LauncherPro while you were on CM6? Between LP and some skin edits, you can make it fairly sense-like. Take a look at the Matted Blues theme for an example.
I dont have the knowledge of a developer but, if Cyangen could do it... why can't another Dev do some research on the 7.6 snapturbo and make the Necessary adjustments
Because Cyanogen didn't do it, jmxp69 did, and TURBO is closed-source, owned by Spiicytuna and jmxp69. Nobody else will ever be able to recreate it unless they can figure out what was done, from scratch.

Turbo is not fully complete for cm6, so to even think of converting to sense is out of the question for right now. I am still working on finishing it up for a v2 release for cm6.

I don't. What app actually pushes the CPU beyond it's limit? The only noticeable/visual bottle neck (that affects most if not all current available apps) on the EVO is the GPU which Snap Turbo does not improve.

The kernel and OS are GPL'd, meaning they have to stay open-source, but SNAP Turbo is an app created by Spiicytuna, using special code in the Snap kernel and various tweaks to the phone's filesystem. Those modifications, and how to interface with the kernel modifications, are not covered under the GPL, and Spiicytuna and jmxp69 have decided themselves not to make TURBO open-source at this time.
Their choice. If you don't like it, you can go use that kanged kernel from the forum's most popular code-and-credit stealer.

Eugene OR TeamWhiskey 2.2

So it looks like they both have working 2.2 builds out in the wild now. My question is which one is better, or which one are YOU going to use? Let's try and keep the comparison here, that way we don't clog up both of these wonderful dev's threads.
I have never used either since I'm still stock. What was the general consensus before their new 2.2 builds?
I wouldn't know. They both have a huge following though. What I have noticed is that each one has very loyal followers. It almost seems as if its "either one or the other". But since it is now 2.2, it is a completely different ball game.

Fair question, but somewhat irrelevant in my opinion. My experience with stock vs cooked ROMs (MT3G CM6) is that the only real advantage is better speed. Sure, a few different user-experience changes, but that's all. An the stock ROMs are far more stable.
My stock Vibrant is already plenty fast. I'm rooted and can use root-only apps. My Dolphin browser already displays Flash. JIT will make it technically faster, but will I actually notice..? What would Eugene or TeamWhiskey add to that...?
Have not tried either but am running fusion by team wiskey with there kernel. Phone runs to good to worry about 2.2.

This statement is very inaccurate. When was the last time you installed a bionix rom?
I'm running the 2.2 and it is flawless. 2.2 offers a lot of improvements over 2.1 besides flash. If you don't know what those are then you really shouldn't be giving uninformed information.

Which one looks like stock? Both? I really despise the all black theme I see on the 2.1 Bionix roms. It just looks tacky in some places like the notifications pull down and it's too black. I see Macnut looks kind of like stock.. no screenshots included with either tho. Either way I've downloaded Macnut and I will be installing it ASAP. I'll try the other 2.2 rom next..

2.2 is A VERY BIG update. I dont know about Vibrant, but it should improve battery, it should run faster due to JIT, it has MANY extra features, and its compatible with 2.2 apps (new Gmail, Chrome-to-phone, youtube, flash...etc). move to 2.3 is not that big
that said, i trust TW more then Eugene.
Personally I think it's too soon to be worried about which one is better for general use. I'd give it a little time for each to get some additional polish unless you just enjoy flashing roms all the time every time a new one comes out. Chances are there'll be bug-fixes and tweaks to both in the next few days. Wait for that and more feedback from the early adopters and then decide...
When I got my phone used it had Eugenes rom on it, but I felt Bionix and team Whiskeys roms have been the best roms besides CM.
Put it this way I have only donated to 2 developers, #1 CM and #2 Team Whiskey.

It isn't flawless. Calendar doesn't sync. Holding back results in a FC (new screenshot feature not implemented properly). I've had inconsistency in the market. Don't get me wrong, I'm using it and I like it, but don't throw the word 'flawless' around so easily.
If you remove screencapture.apk that fixes the back button long press fc and you need to install calendar(something).apk to fix sync issues..
It all comes down to personal preference. My experience with Eugene's 2.1 ROMs are that they're TOO skinned. I personally prefer Team Whiskey.
To answer your question about which looks more stock, Team Whiskey hasn't really skinned the Obsidian ROM all that much, so it basically looks like Stock TouchWiz.

there is a fix already for both
I was using Macnut R7 and was about to flash R9 but Team Whiskeys downloaded faster. The major difference between R9 and 7 is, wi fi calling, modem and working gps with some minor tweeks.
If that is true then my comparison won't be too far off.
The biggest difference between the too is that Team W is a near perfect leak of the official 2.2 rom and Eugene's has some mods like built lag fix and a modified version of T.W. which for the most part is better than stock (not perfect but better; in my opinion)
That should really be what makes you choose which one you want.
Secondary things to think about is that, whiskey roms are known for getting official ota's which is nice if you want to get the official with little work, but its still kinda glitchy and slower than Eugenes, but not in a bad way. If you are running stock without a lag fix then you won't notice much. Eugene's rom is highly modded and some stock things won't work like if you still have avatar on your sdcard, and since his is a port there are some remnants of I9000 and cappy things floating around that can throw you off. But it is less glitchy atm and too me looks better. It has a lightly themed Modified TW. But you can get and install that yourself if you want there is a link in the macnut thread.
Hope that helps. I'm Running tw's rom now but I'm going to check out R9.

[Q] What is the status of virtuous ROMs ? UNITY kernel ?

Are the virtuous ROMs dead ? should we switch to Taboonay ?
EDIT:
1. ALL the 4 virtuous ROMs are stuck at their versions for the past few days since 19th July
2. http://www.virtuousrom.com/ update from 22nd July states that UNITY project is on hold.
EDIT 2: People are saying "this thread should not clutter Dev threads".... well, please read the bolded part above. Asking Qs in generic area about Dev status of ROMs would be inappropriate.
EDIT 3: I think too many folks took this negatively. Changed topic from "[Q] Are the virtuous ROMs dead ? should we switch to Taboonay ?" to "[Q] What is the status of virtuous ROMs ? UNITY kernel ?". Hope that clarifies that this thread is not to denigrate any developer.

If you don't know about SHC rom then you're not worth it.
On a serious note... There is no need to flash every single day. If the rom is bugfree and/or there are no new sources then there's no reason to update it.
So chill back and wait for SuperHootchieCoochie ROM.
Do us a favor and ask such questions in the general area, keep this clean for development ...

Not sure about that. A bit of a grey area This is asking about development of a specific rom. Surely its only the devs in the dev section who will be able to answer this. Its not a tip for users, a theme or an app question he is asking. Chill abit with the 'this is not for this section'.
Anyway when are we getting GT 3.2
I tend to agree with the topic starter. Although I know the developer does a great job, having 4 or 5 different roms to support, makes things confusing, not only for the developer, but also for his followers.
They wonder, what rom should i take, why he switches from Acer to Asus to Galaxy to Xoom and then hops from one rom to another. It makes me think the developer also doesnt know what he wants. Shall i use the asus core or perhaps the acer core, and if that choice is made, he hops back to another core.....
Also, if developing that many different ROM's, what you end up with is a less polished result as when you stick to one dev. direction, which is - in my eyes all to clear as m-deejay's roms still have problems with random power off, wifi problems, and some more, while i do know roms with other kernels, which dont have those problems.
So instead of showing us how many different developments the developer can keep up with for 30-40%, i think he should stick to 1 or 2, and make those 2 100%, or as close as possible to a 100%.
Just my 2 cents......
virtuous alive. moderators please close this thread
How alive is virtual picasso?
I believe Virtuous hoochiecoochie can be alive, but applies the same to the other treads, i really doubt that, as still the wifi problems, the random power offs, random screen-freezes are still as bad (or good, depending on how much you mind) as several versions before.......
Virtuous roms are very unstable, id move on if I were you.
MOD: Please dont close this thread.
Cheers!

As far as virtuous galaxy goes random reboots are a thing of the past since unity v2. From v3 onwards the kernels have been good. However unity v7 in VG 1.0.5 seems to have reverted back to old ways instead of going fwd. Its a shame thor wont release his kernel sources as this would greatly enhance the custom roms we have on here. I do agree that having so many ports can tend to confuse but from my hd2 days mdj works that way!

And 1 for closing this thread as this cant be constructive. Where would this acer forum be without devs like mdj? We have more choice than most of the other tablet owners on here. We have the chefs enhancing the stock option and we have mdj providing us with flavours from deifferent devices. That cant be bad can it? If the virtuous roms are too buggy then we all have the choice to stay clear. However there are many that prefer the custom options and can live with the bugs. We have choice in here not just from stock optimisations but custom mods from various devices. Thats must be a good. What we dont want is people starting to get on the chef and he leaves xda like most of the exp chefs all over xda are doing!

For example galaxy is more or less perfect, 3 small issues to fix, but what else should be updatet. So not much to do for mdj.
And no need to flash a new rom every day, I think. Don't change a running system.

another 1 for closing
Case in point:
I bought both the Iconia and Transformer and had a tough time deciding which to open and keep. What made me choose the Iconia was the dev support in comparison. Lets realize without dev support our tabs, phones, etc. Wouldn't be functional or as fun!
If the dev of the rom says he's still developing, then case closed.

There will be a small price you have to pay for it, approximately 1000,000 pesos. But it's worth it bro! It even comes with a hot secretary that will type for you........"wait for it"!

MIUI General Discussion

Thread was created in order to move discussions from this development thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054254 to this general thread since our conversations had little to do about contributing to Development. As always keep it clean, no flaming, etc.

I think everyone is waiting for MIUI and CM7. Can't seem to get here soon enough lol we seem to have some Devs looking into making the current MIUI version we have more "useable" hopefully they can get us a descent release where the basic features are stable enough to be use as a 'daily driver' if not, GB will be here shortly in a couple weeks n we'll get things rolling

I'm currently using miui 1.3.5. The only problem for me is battery drain and some other minor things.

Really? For me battery was great, but bad 3G and no 4G killed it for me. If I would have at least had ok 3G, I would keep it, but otherwise when I leave my house, I have no internet, which is not the case on stock (or close) Roms.
The MIUI we have has great features and all, but let's face it, it's not the most attractive looking rom.
I can't wait until we have the newest MIUI, I've used it on my old Evo and trust me it blows away the one we have now. You guys are going to be so happy once we have it.
I'd use it as my daily and never change it EVER if we had it.
Unless the sense port was finished, in that case I would use that. But otherwise new MIUI is great.

It's not until you use theme manager to download themes. You can customize boot animation, wallpaper, icons, ringtones, with one click. Also, if you don't like those, you can get newer ones online at miuithemes.com, but those may not use all their features on froyo.
I'm really feeling the excitement build in the Epic community and I think its great. Things have been much more positive around here lately as well. I can't wait to try out miui and cm7 after GB source comes out, and hopefully be able to help out finding bugs and testing.
A couple months ago I was ready to ditch this phone for just about anything (even considered downgrading to an EVO) but now I think I'll be happily running the Epic for a good while to come.
For anyone who is fed up waiting for the latest and greatest, try running SFR 1.2 (froyo) with clean kernel. I am very nit picky about my daily driver and this has been flawless. Performance is much better than stock, and everything works so well I just don't feel rushed to upgrade (phone or OS) like I used to.
Right now I'm using marcusants ACS Bamboozle, but will definitely switch when (maybe if) we get GB Miui.
I have also seen an improvement in our community. The useless flaming and bickering has been toned down to a minimum, if not, just completely stopped. Its great to finally be one big happy community like before. I can say SRF 1.2 is def my favaorite ROM and daily driver at the moment, but I'm definetly looking towards CM7 and MIUI. It'll still be a while to get some stable builds done even after source is released so I hope SRF 1.3 is dropped a bit before then so I can totally leave froyo with a bang! and according to qbking77 in the SRF 1.2 development thread, SRF 1.3 is still being worked on, as well as a possible new kernel thanks to their hard work, it'll be a lot easier to wait a bit longer for MIUI/CM7 lol

MIUI just looks like a Chinese iOS knockoff. :\
Since I'm also probably going to be waiting for the next Nexus (if I can resist the SGSII) I'm also looking forward to CM7 and MIUI. I've never used either before or any iteration, but the reports on them are always great.
I'm gonna go to CM7 and set everything up, make a Nandroid Backup, then go to MIUI and set everything up with a Nandroid Backup after, because those are gonna be the only 2 ROMs I'll use.
Do any of you know how to build a kernel? I've made files to test, but don't know how to compile. I combined some files from GS CM Kernel and Epic stock kernel. Just need to know how to make a zimage. I can post the files if you want to compile.

You might want to PM thomasskull666 or Rodderik for that. They're the "kernel gurus". Just make sure u know what your doing and dnt hard brick ur phone. I wish I could help more but so far I'm looking for an extra computer to load a linux only OS since I hate to dual boot. Also, I haven't read too much into compiling yet so no help there either :\ sorry

Hello! A little introduction...

Hello! I am SirMiaowsalot, and am a long time developer for Android, ever since my G1. I currently own 2 phones, The HTC Wildfire (Hence the forum posted in) and the Sony Xperia Play. As I feel the Wildfire has a more active 'scene', and needs more of a kick in the right direction, I have started development on a Wildfire ROM. I see a lot of 'developers' (or people who call themselves so) simply adding a few apps and changing the launcher of a ROM, then passing it off as their own. Rest assured, I will not be one of those people. I also see a lot of impractical decisions in ROM developing, such as people using apps not for compatibility, but for looks or design. I will be setting out on creating the most stable, practical ROM for the Wildfire you will ever see.
Features Currently Implemented
-Android 2.3.7 (Built and Recompiled from scratch, a few CM7 patches)*
-Market 2.2.7 (Also known as 'Old' Market)*
-Camera/Camcorder fully working*
-Stock clock speed at 245/633Mhz (Most stable, efficient and sufficient in my opinion)*
-Default Gingerbread keyboard*
-A clean Black/White look (Status Bar, Notifications, etc.)*
If anybody has any tips on direction, I would be happy to accept help
I will give a link to downloads once it is fairly usable and stable, and when I'm allowed to post in the development section of the forum.
E.T.A: Early December~ (Beta Release)
Cutting the crap; No pointless additions, Not based on CM7/Oxygen, Completely AOSP.
Many thanks guys!
-SirMiaowsalot
Welcome!
It`s always nice to see a proper developer join the side of the device you own
I eagerly await the release of this ROM, as it sounds like a minimal rom (i like them small and fast ).
It also would be nice to turn your eyes to the Sense 2.3.3 roms, see if you could kick them in the right direction, or even ICS (probably harder). (this is, if you can and have time. If you don`t, there is no need to do it.)
Anyway, any ROM is welcome as long as there really is some work put into it.

I was genuinely thinking of doing a Gingerbread Sense ROM, or an ICS ROM, but I started this when there wasn't a release of ICS, and I don't like Sense in terms of UI/Performance.
I promise I will put a huge amount of effort into this ROM, I don't want recognition as a half-assed developer who just adds some apps to CM7 and expects people to download it.
I love the minimalistic, functional look, and luckily this can be achieved without any performance drops or any un-neccesary apps. Any help would be welcome, so if you've got pointers, I'm happy to look into them
