As all of you know the Atrix is only available in US & Canada and most of the rumors point to may/june release date .
Today i read at gsmarena that the Galaxy S II will be supporting a 1.2 Ghz dual-core processor ! .Then i looked at the specifications and they were pretty much attractive like the 4.3 SAMOLED+ screen , the 32 GB memory and the 8 MP camera !
What really made me go through the phase of confusion is that the Galaxy S II is coming to europe this month or the beginning of may
My question is if you were in my situation what will you choose and does the atrix deserve all the waiting ?
The atrix is good, and has its quirks, but so does every phone. All the problems of the atrix are well-known.
As for the galaxy s2, may I remind you of a little incident with the last generation? Specifically something pertaining to GPS?

I do remember it , actually my sister is suffering from this problem right now along with some other problems like the filing system .
The problem is that i'm waiting for the atrix for a pretty long time and i read a lot of articles about impressions and reviews for the device so you know that a man in my position well have his doubts , especially when i still haven't got a try of the device.

Dude.. I think the Samoled screens are incredible when it comes to color *but the reality is they look all nice just because all the color is oversaturated*.
Resolution will be same old crap, phone will be thin but with a crappy finish.
Now the the real real real thing you must think about... Samsung has crappy quality control. Guaranteed. I urge everyone who reads this to look up i9000m corrupt SD in google and you will find the polls here on XDA on the ridiculousness of the lack of interest from Samsung to do anything and even admit a mistake... and B, their way of addressing this so called "issue" after 7 months post release.
If you want to know the horror stories i had to live with the i9000 and how finally after my 3rd phone died, i simply decided to go out and buy a new one... just ask and I'll tell you more
500 bucks down the drain and eventually, I managed to get it to boot a semi working filesystem. It chewed up one brand new SD card, gg.. and now i gave it to my wife because all it does is look pretty and make calls.. also lets not even mention their horrible commitment to updates and more importantly their crappy choice in filesystems (related specifically to the i9000).
By the way, in case you do not know. The i9000 is the Original Galaxy S..
Yeah, people can ***** about motorola all they want, I'll NEVER be buying samsung again..
PS: Most people say the Nexus S redeemed samsung, but its a pretty known fact, google set the spec sheet and phone workes great because its an i9000 with all the quirks already ironed out and of course running AOSP gingerbread.

I enjoy my atrix very much. Even with the locked bootloader the psuedo roms are working fine until we get that bad boy decrypted!

it really depends if the galaxy s2 will have the same problems as the original. the two main problems i had with the phone that made me sold it was the gps never working right and not very accurate when it does. The other is reception/deathgrip i mostly use my phone in a low reception area, 2-3 bars at best, and every time i pick it up it would always drop down to 1 bar or edge and would constantly drop calls. I couldn;t make a call longer than 5 mins before it would be dropped if im in a low reception area.
all the problems with teh atrix is pretty minor compared to these imo. if samsung fixed these problems and super amoled plus screen is as good and some are saying then i will consider it, it was nice to have all those roms and mods(assuming the bootloader can be cracked)
im also skeptical on the build quality. all teh galaxy s phones felt pretty cheap with teh captivate being the best of the worst...

My Atrix is being returned to AT&T in about 10 days. I'm hoping to get a SGSII.
If I was in your position, I would wait till I could play with both of them. Because I like to do a lot of web browsing and text related stuff, I almost always choose the phone that has the higher pixel density and/or higher resolution. It just makes reading small text so much more pleasant.
I guess this only matters to people with sharp eyes, who like reading small text though.

Stay away from samsung android phones. Samsung can help very screw up the os. I had a galaxy s and bought an atrix out of pocket, best thing i ever did.
Samsung lured to us about when they would update to 2.2 for 6 months. And their android ui is very ham fisted. Don't go samsung.
Does the Galaxy S ll have a Nvidia Tegra dualcore processor? No. LOL. But Cyanogenmod would be really nice to have. And I know it will get it. Oh well.

This post is an example of a fail Chinese to English translation.
It won't be long after release for us to know whether GPS works well on the SGS2 or not, and whether the phone has any other quirks. Things like this, such as Atrix touch and other issues only take days to come to light on XDA. (The touch issue would really piss me off, I hope they fix that for Atrix owners soon, too bad Bell will delay any fix for months like they do any update).
I'm satisfied with resolution of the i9000m SD defect in my case. They repaired it, it works now end of story. I have doubts about how you managed to kill 3 i9000's that don't even really have reported hardware issues...(or did you you say the $500 was down the drain but you managed to get it working again?) With an unlocked bootloader comes great responsibility.
The major upgrade with samoled+ on SGSII is that it is RGB, no longer pentile. Hardly 'same old resolution' when it will now have double the Red/Blue subpixels with full 800x480. Compared to qHD RGBW pentile it will have ~10% more total subpixels and 48% more R/G/B subpixels (since it only has 480x270).
The thing that will keep my away from pentile in the future is how crappy solid primary or almost-primary colours (just R/B in SGS case) look with effectively half the resolution.

If the Galaxy S II comes to AT&T then why the hell would you get the Atrix??? lol
well unless you don't want to wait.
I wanted a SGS II, but couldn't wait so I bought the Atrix.. I like the fingerprint scanner, plus when a dual core optimized update drops it shouldn't really matter too much... IMHO...
I want to thank all of you guys for telling me about your opinions .
I guess i'll follow the GS2 forum to see if the GS2 have technical flaws like GS did .
The more the technical flaws decreases the more the possibility of me buying it increases .

The GS2 will come in 2 versions . One with Nvidia processor and the other with Exynose processor .
Read countless reviews and still can't decide.
Two things putting me off. The lack of ICS and Samsung take forever to get updates out (example my old mans galaxy s2 is still on 2.3.4 while my brothers Liquid Metal is on 2.3.6) Also the fact that quad core phones will be out next year.
My being picky? How are you guys gettin on with you' re notes?
Seeing as there is one phone in existence sold with ics on it, that is kind of a tough stance to take. Also this has nearly the fastest currently available processor, why do you think you need a quad core?
I guess you could wait till they stop making new phones, that way there is nothing better just around the corner. I heard that will be next year, so I would wait.
Honestly, the best thing you can do is just get a new phone every year. until the next best thing, the note is it.

You could learn how to root & install custom ROMs, so you never have to wait for the Samsung's updates.
If you could wait for a Quad core phone then wait for it. If you can't, then the Note should do you well.

I know how to root so if ICS was ported I could do it myself. I'm just being picky and making up excuses to not buy the damn thing I think.. I do want it but the Galaxy Nexus went back cause I couldn't stand the volume bug and the crappy build. Just looking for opinions really to see if this device is really worth it and if the size is a problem. Trust XDA users opinions over Engadget and other tech sites.

Ummm how to put this in simple words...
Once you start using the Note, all other phones will seem like small, slow pieces of garbage.

So true. My friend bought Sprint's version of the SGS2 & she can barely go back to her SGS2 after using my Note for many hours.

samsung arent too bad with updates, it could just be your device is locked to a region or carrier that doesnt update regularly.
my note was locked to the PLS region. it took 1-2 weeks longer than the other regions to get 2.3.6, but even so, its quite a quick update considering its a carrier branded device thats only been out for a month or so.
quad core phones have their strengths and weaknesses. the only advantage is in multitasking. you wont be able to use the raw power for a single app though aside from nvidia tegra 3 games. most PC apps are only now beginning to support multicore, i'd say android will take a fair while as well. when devs make apps, they make them so they will run on a wide variety of devices to maximise earnings. most people using android devices are still using single cores, devs will focus on maximising compatibility and improving performance on single cores first, so on a quad core phone, you may have one or two active cores with the other two doing pretty much nothing.
by the time the software catches up, you'd be stuck with a 40nm tegra3 that would burn your hands when a newer 28nm or 20nm cpu will be available and would be much faster and run much cooler.
i'd say just get a note now, enjoy the snappy performance of the apps samsung have optimised for dual core and the gpu and have fun knowing that you'll be using all you paid for in the phone rather than only getting half your money's worth with a quad.
As I know wildfires will not come out next year. There are coming some bastards 2x2 cores 2 at 1.5-1.8 and 2 low MHz cores so the battery live is increased when you don't need high usage of the cores. So don't think there will be much difference from the 2cores that are in the market atm. Maybe a better you on them will do the trick as now ics will provide hw acceleration.
Just my thoughts about that.

Personally, not amused. Didn't raise the bar the way the S2 did. US versions shafted with S4.
And also, I think it's absolutely hideous. "Inspired by pebbles?" Honestly, who could even say that with a straight face. Oval phones are just... not smart.
But all in all, it's probably one "Plus" away from being stunning, but alas, combined with a pretty questionable keynote, I'd say this is overall pretty disappointing. It's still easily one of the best phones on the market, but it's now in a market populated by the HTC One X and the Huawei Ascend D XL, the former which is stunningly beautiful, and the latter has the chance to be even more specs-heavy than the S3.
tl;dr: Samsung pulled a 4s.

When it comes out in the USA, i dont know if im really getting it. Thats what happened when the S2 first came out. It came out around summer 2011 then a couple months later on a october, the tmobile brand t989 was released with upgraded hardware. Maybe the S3 might follow the same route.

'Quad-core' is a good marketing term for selling. Minor differences in everyday use in my opinion. You'll notice the difference if you run a benchmark.
I like all the functionality of it.... but I'd like to know from someone who knows:
Will our S2 be able to do all the cool stuff they are showing off with a software upgrade to 4.0.X ? Like the gesture functions, etc... Because our phone can already do most of the stuff they are showing, and the specs are pretty close?
Some of the features they show off will be unique to it, because the S3 uses a new version of Touchwiz that the Galaxy S2 isn't getting. Our ICS update is more a minor update, whereas the S3 gets some unique features. Kind of like HTC adding unique features to Sense 4 versus phones with Sense 3.5, even though both are on ICS.

That's touchwiz i wasn't impressed at all. It not even all that special especially since samsung didn't even bother using a15 architecture on their processor. So qualcomm will be in the lead till ti omap is released. The only noticeable feature was picture in picture and that is it. Guess ill be sticking with the nexus line because
all those features are useless. but they can be done with apps which someone will probably do in the future.

All usa versions will be the step child because no one be using exynos unless you unlock the device go on at&t. All because of lte/hspa+ on tmobile bands.

Yea that what I meant buy the international unlocked for att but again I wasn't to impressed with it so I'm leaning towards getting the note and riding it out til the next nexus.
i dont like how it looks, i also think that it is too big its almost the same size as the galaxy note. It has a 8mp camera hopefully its not the same ones they put in the galaxy s2. that being said only thing left to really know is hows the battery life.

I agree with OP. Pretty much a let down here. Minor upgrades with some gimmicks. It will be the same story all over for us nerds here who want updates. Sure it has nice specs, but development is going to be slow for 6-9 months after the next OS release for android I probably wont own it, I don't need those specs for anything. All games run perfect on dual cores.

Although it does have quite possibly the worst manufacturer support known to man (and would be basically useless without this community - we're still being held back by Moto on having proper ICS where all the other Teg2 devices now have it working properly), the build quality is not so hot (My Atrix is all creaky after about a year, and the USB port has become very flaky. My old hTCs are, as far as I can tell, indestructible.) and the screen is awful.
On the other hand, I do prefer the 4" form factor for a high-end phone by some margin though, these new ones are just too f**ing big and basically unusable one-handed. Still, I like HD displays, so I may have to put up with at least 4.3"... Plus, I'm glad Moto went for a decent capacity battery over an anorexic looking device. I'm actually quite impressed by the battery life of the Atrix running JB/ICS, when I can get the damn thing to charge.

Atrix 4g released in February of 2011, not a 2010 smartphone. Atrix 4g not first dual core smartphone, LG Optimus 2x was.
Otherwise, yes, the Atrix 4g is a pretty respectable phone. Motorola really tried to pull out all the stops with it. It had multiple docks including the lapdock, had/has specs comparable to many mid-range phones a year and a half later, etc. I wish companies would try to do this more often. We haven't had Samsung do anything special - they've fallen into release a top of the line spec phone once a year and go from there. The Note is great, but they didn't promote it as well as they should have. Samsung and HTC and LG really need to make their phones common names. Spend money getting your name out there - it clearly works.

The Atrix is still the most innovative and coolest super phone that I ever had (what other phone has a fingerprint scanner, which phone came with higher resolution than WVGA at that time?) and I'd happily recommend it if it was still available on the market!

I would give away the fringerprint scanner if it meant faster ICS.
I used that thing 3 times. Enough to see that it works when it wants to. If I have to apply myself and make the perfect slide everytime I need to unlock my phone then it's not a security feature, it's a boring one...

The Atrix's screen is only really 960x540 in luminance, if you only ever watch old black and white movies or only ever read text in shades of grey/white/black it's great. Introduce chroma, and it's really not the equivalent of 518,400 pixels any more (in fact, it has a lot less chroma resolution than a WVGA non-PenTile screen). I guess it's better than RGBG pentile like non-plus AMOLEDs (which can only render green at full resolution), but it's still crap.
I've not played with an HD PenTile screen, but going by the Atrix and Desire, I'd never have one again anyway.

Better use of the tech would be using it for access to your passwords. Instead info prompted for a pin number for your bank account app or your login info for your credit card app, just swipe your finger.

The build quality is an issue only if you don't use a case
and the phone is still smaller and easier to hold than all the other phones even WITH a case on it
anyone who sells this phone short either has money to blow and doesn't mind the $200-$300 extra for the "superphones" or don't recognize great tech when they see it.
I guess this would be a great to ask if the Atrix 4G is still a good phone.
You see I live in Brazil and have an iPhone 3G, and my parents live in the USA, and I want to send them some money to buy me a smart phone, the Atrix 4G seems like a REALLY good phone, and I am a phone addict, meaning that my iphone is Jailbroken and unlocked, I know all the ups and downs and etc of Cydia, so off course I would probably root and apply a custom ROM to the Atrix 4G.
On my iphone I mainly play games like Angry Birds and Where's my Water - so I guess the Atrix 4G is a good gaming phone right?
Other than that I would probably use it as an eReader when I am out of reach to my Nexus 7.

So I guess when it says unlocked it SHOULD work at Brazil (I am always afraid of it not being unlocked to worldwide carriers and just US carries.)

I can't think of a single Android app I use that runs faster on a device with or without NEON. I'm sure there are some. But I wouldn't exactly call it a major failing of Tegra 2, or even consequential for most people.
And if you think the heat is bad on the Atrix, try an international SGS3 or One X running a game. Then you'll know the meaning of 'hot'
I'm not saying that the crappy battery life, mediocre quadrant benchmark & terrible browser benchmarks are definitely a permanent part of the phone. But hear me out: what if they are? What if LG & Google just did a bad job putting the overall package together, and it never comes close to performing like the Optimus G?
Again: I'm not asking, "do you think it's going to be this way?" I'm just asking a hypothetical, and that's it.
So what happens next? Wait for a new Asus or Samsung phone? Pick up a GN2, actual Optimus G, GS3? Switch to WP8 or iOS? Go back to the Gnex? Stick with the Nexus 4 and ride out its shortcomings? Live in denial, cursing reviewers?
Just wondering.

Simple... If certain things cause you not to like a phone then don't buy it
The review units didn't ship with widgets on the lock screen feature and multi-user login feature. Those will be in the final builds before shipment. That final build should address those issues. I think Google made a foolish mistake to release unfinished software for review.
But to answer your question, those will never be permanent so your question just doesn't make sense. The LG Optimus G, which has the exact same specs, scored well in benchmarks and battery tests. The issue with the Nexus 4 is definitely the software. And if it's software, Google will take care.
If you really want an answer, well then this is a terrible device, I guess?
Remember, people thought ICS was crappy and laggy when it was first released on the GNex
I hope for everyone's sake that these issues are only temporary.
That said along with my other concerns (LTE and storage are a pretty big deal for me, HATERS: NO MAYBE NOT FOR YOU I DON'T CARE) I am already on the fence between buying this before the holidays and waiting to see what comes next year. If there are quality or performance issues then that will push me over the edge to riding out a few more months with my i9000.

According to one of the guys writing the review for Android Police, there's an update coming out November 11th to finalize the software of their phones. Also like another user said, their current test build didn't include certain features and even when Matias Duarte did the demo for the verge, he said it wasn't the final product. Even though its not final yet, everyone has said that the phone is second to none in speed. Everyone is stressing out over nothing.

Honestly, even if.. so what? I sell my gnex 200$ buy that phone for 300$ so effectively pay 100$ for a phone that the current benchmarks are 10 times better than the gnex... I'd gladly pay 100$ a year for that kind of upgrade.
Wow. Okay. I really didn't think I'd have to say this again, but: I am not saying that the complaints are going to stick. I'm not asking for the probability that they will; other people have discussed that ad nauseam elsewhere. I'm just asking, honestly: if the worst happens, and it isn't a pre-production/software issue, and the phone only gets 5.5 hours battery life, and is beaten half the time on benchmarks by last-gen phones, what's the call? What would you guys do, in that situation? I'm not trying to start a flame war. I'm trying to honestly attempt to consider a possible situation.
Its simple: N4 got same hardware as Optimus G, which means hardware cant be a reason for scoring lower on benchmarks. Since hardware cant be a reason, it can be software. Those Nexus 4 on tests doesnt have some 4.2 features yet, so you can clearly see that this isnt final software yet.

The battery definitely should be a software issue. I have a feeling that something is causing the CPU or GPU to not be able to fully downclock on idle which is causing both the battery and heat issues. Though really, the phone should be designed so that it doesn't overheat even when it's running at 100%.

What if the hardware is NOT the same?
Maybe N4 has cheaper, slower RAM, less memory bandwidth, binned lower efficient processor,...
It could very well be possible that N4 uses inferior components to enable this awesome cheap price.

That's not how a SoC works though... The components are set in stone, not interchangeable
I'm on the GN LTE. It sucks but I can live with it until I figure out the situation with the N4. I rushed into the GN when it first came out without waiting for critical review. Huge mistake.
I won't repeat that with the N4. I'll wait at least a few weeks after the release to see how the reviews play out.
I really hope the N4 can be my next phone. The price is just right. I don't see any good alternative other than paying nearly double for a Note II or S III.

And there could be different versions of the SoC. Was any model confirmed beyond it being a S4 Pro? There could very will be multiple versions of the the S4 Pro.
The chips have been confirmed to be the same.
