[Q] Conclusive way to determine battery degradation - Omnia 7 General

Hi Guys,
Would you please go into Diagnosis, input *#2*#, go to page 2/3 and report your BatteryFullLifeTime here
BatteryFullLifeTime: 24489

I am hoping that this may be a definitive way to determine if your battery has passed its useful life... My battery has certainly become overheated a couple of times (to the point where it is almost too hot to touch)... I find this occurs if I simultaneously charge the phone, make a phone call and say play a game all at hte same time...
Bonus points for any one with a brand new or extended life battery who can report what this number says.

Is your battery fully charged? If so this may not be a reliable method after all...
Also make sure that you are reading "BatterFullLifeTime" and not "BackupBatteryFullLifeTime" - subtle difference I know.

mine says
BatteryLifeTime = 0
BatteryFullLifeTime = 0
no difference if my phone is on AC adapter, connected via USB to my notebook, or without any cable
cheers

25000 for me

Yes it is full charged and just BatteryFlag = 1, BatteryLifePercent = 100, Reserved1 = 10, BatteryChemistry = 4 and BatteryVoltage =+/-4120 values are different from 0

Now BatteryFullLifeTime is equal to 24489.

Does anyone have an extended battery? Does the extended battery show a longer lifetime?

My 1 month old Omnia 7 is showing bateryfulltime=0 at 36 % charged and the same when it's 100%, so it could be the recharge cycles value who knows

Mine fairly consistently hovers around the 24,000 to 25,000 mark.
Here's what MSDN has to say on the matter BatteryFullLifetime
The reported number of seconds of battery life available when the battery is fully charged, or -1 if the battery life is unknown.

I'm not sure if this varies depending on how much you use the phone - but it seems there are at least 2 people with the same values as me.
For what its worth, when I have the phone plugged in on AC or at 100% battery life, it shows 0 - but after I let it drain down a bit (seems to be around 99%) it shows a value between 24,000 to 25,000.
Anyway, need more results to be conclusive.

when I posted before it was at 50%

I'd really like to know what everyone is getting for hours from last charge when they hit around 20% battery. I've bought a used Omnia 7 and it's consistently showing about 14 hours by the time I hit 20% battery left. Considering I have an Android HTC Desire HD with 1230mAh battery which lasts longer I'm wondering if this battery has had it and needs replacing. Surely it should last longer considering I'm using it roughly the same, less if you take into account that WinPho has no widgets.

For what its worth. mine lasts around 1 day with moderate use (i.e. around 1 hour of phone calls and generally checking facebook etc every so often).

It's showing 0 like a few others have reported. I'm waiting for it to finish charging to see if it changes and will post back.

FYI, mine shows 0 when fully charged. After it drains to 99% then it shows between 24000 to 25000

24,489 after a little use. I had WiFi switched on and it said 12,000 which had me going :O until I remembered about WiFi being on lol I don't know what's causing the drain that makes it drop to 20% after only 14 hours or so.. if it was Android I could see which apps had been using most battery, is there anything similar in WinPho ?
OK now it's reading around 67% and saying 12,000~ I think this battery is screwed. I have a Twitter app, Facebore and SkyDrive that sync normally with AccuWeather too. I've sent maybe two texts and zero calls in the time it's been off charge (7 hours). Reading what others have said I'm getting screwed out of battery life even though it's reporting nearly 25k when fully charged. The game is afoot!

Mine purchased end of August, reports batteryfulllifetime=4109, batterylifetime=3000, batterylifepercent=73 with reserved1=10

Battery Maximum charge dwindling...

Hi there,
I have been the owner of a brand new M500 for just over 2 weeks now and generally I am very happy with it (although I haven't had chance to play with it too much yet). I am just a little concerned with the max battery charge...
After around 16 hours first charge I generally run it down below 1 hours worth of battery left before I put it on charge, always overnight (so getting around 6-7 hours on charge through power adapter not PC). However since the second charge (which informed me I had nearly 9 hours of battery life to look forward to) it has been steadily dropping by around 20 minute increments so that the last time it dropped just below 7 hours max charge...
So this got me to wondering:
A, is this normal?
B, should I expect this to level out at some point, and how many hours should I expect this to be about?
My usage of the PDA functions aren't great and so I generally get a good 2 days worth of use between charges (1 day if I listen to MP3s during the day).
I have disabled the Beam (IrDA and Bluetooth) and only activate them when I want to use them and I only have the screen on a medium brightness. I try to ensure that I don't leave programs running when I'm not using it... Is there much else I can do to increase battery life or should I be happy with what I am getting, as this is the first time I have had a Smartphone, I don't know what to expect...
Many thanks for any of your comments,
Dan
What are you using to tell you the remaining battery time? The standard battery app tells you remaining % of battery, any program which tells you the remaining time is estimating it based on this reading.
Most programs which do this use averaging techniques to find the best estimation of remaining time based on previous charging and discharging times. The reading on your remaining charge time will eventually level out after a few charges. The charge the battery holds hasn't changed, but the estimated time remaining based on that charge has.
Thanks for the reply, I was hoping that was what was happening...
Thanks for clarifying
Dan

Battery Lifetime

How does the battery behaves when compared with HTC HD and the original Diamond?
I found a good review article of the diamond2
"In terms of battery life the Diamond2 promises nearly double the amount of standby time over its predecessor. From my time using the Diamond2, starting with a full charge and with frequent use (web browsing/ music/ camera/ the excellent bubble burst game!), the next time the phone needed charging was five days later and even then this was more of a top up rather than the battery running on empty."
i cant quite beleive a 5 day battery life on this phone! if it is true then it will be awesome but it has a smaller battery 1100 mah against 1350 in my phone currently which i get about 1.5 days out of it.
So i will be reserved, and slightly pessimistic

I would expect it to perform like your current phone (the HD, right?). smaller battery but smaller screen, so it should be about the same, and the htc provided data seems to be in line with that (about the same stand by, talk time and video talk time...)
So I think u are right to be pessimistic, but I also think that a higher capacity battery is possible with the same size as the 1100 mAh one: This TD2 battery is large, compared to the TD1 one: about 2 times as large, and TD1 was 900 mAh. Except if they are not of the same thickness, TD2 battery should have a higher capacity than just 1100 mAh...
I found nice shots comparing internals of TD1 and TD2, where we can see the 2 batteries
http://www.mobile01.com/newsdetail.php?id=7317
I do not know how TD2 battery compare size-wise to the HD, maybe you could post some pics of your battery? side by side shots of TD2, TD1 and HD batteries would be very nice, especial it we also have thickness shots anyone having acces to the 3 care to post those?
gkai, no i dont have an hd, i wish i had one. I only have a polaris which is why i cannot understand the 5 day battery life as if my current phone does not last that long. I think that something that is more powerful, bigger screen and a smaller battery will last as long, i just dont, and also mine is stated to have a 400 hr standby time and the td2 only has 360 hours.
So i will still be pessimistic and say that they had some wonderous phone to get it to last for 5 days! (or didnt touch it for about 3 days!)
also the physical size of the battery does not actually matter the rating of the battery is what matters and that is smaller therefore a smaller battery. The td1 i think was always said to have a really bad battery life so hopefully htc have heard this and made the td2 better with a longer battery life, we can all live in hope

hum, then it is possible: faster processor does not mean that it will drain battery faster: new generation are etched finer and use less power for same or more processing power. Screen can be (slightly) more efficient, and power saving of the different radio can be better too. But I expect the phone to be good for 1.5/2.5 days of typical usage, no more, given the current behavior of the HD, touch pro and touch diamond (which have almost exactly the same internal components)
So i will still be pessimistic and say that they had some wonderous phone to get it to last for 5 days! (or didnt touch it for about 3 days!)

The second is more likely, I doubt htc has changed the battery for the review (although it is possible). Good cell coverage is also good for battery life, if u have a cell tower nearby your phone will get better standby and communication time, same for wifi. I guess they both were in ideal condition and used the phone lightly...

hum, yes, it is the rating that count...but given that all good batteries use the same technology (lithium-polymer), mAh rating should be in direct relation with physical size: a large battery with small rating just means that your battery is of an older generation (unlikely), or that there is a lot of dead material (plastic packaging) in your battery. So either the TD2 battery is much thinner than TD1, or it is likely that higher capacity batteries with the same physical size will surface quite soon on the accessory market (I hope for the second case, battery life under normal usage is one of the most important factor for me, it is convenient to have more than 1 day of "heavy" use per charge, and less than one day under "normal" use means the phone is poor for me, whatever its other qualities...)

Hi Guys.. Wel 4 days in, and still on my first full charge!
According to the power screen, I have used
58 hours 25 minutes standby
Talktime 2 hours 22 minutes

how to say i think that htc have finally sorted out battery problems and have made a phone with a good battery life. Seems like ive been told!

1hour 28 minutes.
3 bars from the main power meter have already gone.
Brightness is set to auto and only recieve gprs from where i am at the moment.
I new it was too good to be true, look like there'll be a full charge tonight again.

yes, my mistake However, my point stand: battery capacity should be directly linked to its physical size and weight, given that the technology and materials used are the same (especially if you compare the batteries of a single manufacturer, like HTC). If not, it mean that the battery is not optimal and that a higher capacity battery battery of the same size is likely to come afterwards (from htc or other suppliers). That's why I was interested in the physical size of the TD2 battery compared to other devices...Well, with some luck I will know today, maybe a batch will arrive this afternoon in my favorite mobile shop and I will pick one ;-)
After the first full charge and unplugging in the morning, mine lasted until the evening.
about the same as my D1.
I don't have bluetooth or wifi on ever.
So to be honest, with average use....it's still ****
Good job i bought myself a AA battery emergency charger for it as well
Extend batterylife
Maybe not what we're looking for , but it's a way to extend batterylife:
Just underclock your TD2 or other HTC-device:
Look here and here...
FYI: Overclocking is not possible (yet )!

Battery life after initial charges- your opinions

As we all know, the Galaxy S uses a Li-Po battery.
Having previous expirience with those batteries (R/C Helicopters), i know that they require 5-10 cycles of full drain-full charge to reach full capacity and start their normal life cycle.
Not too long ago, there was a thread complaining about battery life here, but i think it was due to people checking usage time on the first or second charge only.
In this thread, i'd like to hear your opinions about battery life, but please-
Only those who passed 5 FULL drain-charge cycles, reply. We need some objective information about it.
Personally-
I'm after my 4th charge, and already seeing HUGE improvement. When i recieved it i barely managed to go through a single day, and now i'm almost 2 days since i last charged it, played some games, browsed a little, made a few calls, and i'm still over 65%.
Waiting to do 2-3 more charges and reach optimal state to see what it's worth.
Mine is a Li-Ion and lasts about a day with almost constant use.

You are correct in that initially we were told the battery type would have been a Li-Pol.
However, since the phone's release it has now come to light that the battery is in fact a Li-Ion.
I made a post that mentions this here if you wish to have a read.
I’ve had my phone approx 2 weeks, so I’m on my 5 or 6th battery recharge. My phone has been on for 1 day 20hrs now. I’ve talked on the phone for about two hours and surfed for about ¾ of an hour. Wifi has been on all the time – Bluetooth about 3hrs. Current battery level is 70% - I must say after all the gloom and doom re the latest smartphones I’m more than happy with the battery life so far and does seem to be getting better all the time.
Wow this is too nice to read, I was starting to worry about my battery being wonky

I'm pretty sure it will.
When i got my phone i charged it to full, and before the day ended i needed to chrage it again.
And now:
Last charge was thursday morning (GMT+2), and now, after 2 and a half days, i still have 40%.
I could probably go on for another full day.
My first few charges barely made it through the working day, but now the phone still has plenty of charge after 24hours. Although right now is an exception, as the lady is playing Abduction on it and will probably keep at it until the battery dies
She really should get her own Galaxy S. Although we're waiting on some GPS improvements before replacing her phone, she cant afford to get lost.

Correct.... She's far too busy keeping me in check, looking after our Granddaughter and the Farm.
I got my replacement SGS today (had to send the original one back as Carphone Warehouse messed up the order so had to send everything back just to get a new SIM) and been hammering it for 14 hours, literally 80% of that running games, using WiFi, bluetooth and GPS and I only got it down to 25% and hadn't even charged it to 100% before I couldn't wait any longer. If the battery does get better after the initial charge, I will have no problem with this phone.
Further to my earlier post...
Charged the phone to full before bed last night... All of the power widget functions of two exchange email accounts and hotmail updating every hour.
So with no other use for 8 hours the battery was at 91% when I woke up. Battery status confirmed that 57% had gone on standby and 29 % on idle
So... Presuming this bsttery use is constant when idle... My phone will be down to 70 % by 24 hours with no use?
Crabby
It varies greatly according to reception.
Good network coverage= less work for the transceiver inside the device=less power drain.
It's not really constant.

But still... on 3 days old...

[Q] Battery Life

So I bought a Venue Pro and I'm loving it! However, after a full charge, hours later in the battery info under settings the battery life falls very fast and says 2 hours left. Is there anyway to fix this? Thanks in advance!
I found out the answer myself. Unless you charge it from the computer it will not show you correct battery life or it doesn't charge properly. One of the two.
I thought I had solved it but no, it just charged slower and the battery I'd going equally fast. Can someone please give me a solution? Thanks
i think you simply have a bad battery.
DVP in general charges pretty fast, one hour on PC USB (500mA max) gets you a full charge.

hmm 1 hour on PC USB? Mine takes close to 3-4 hours for full charge. My battery lasts 1 day with moderate usage. So could it be that my DVP battery is bad too?
Either you have a bad battery, or maybe it's still being calibrated?
I bought a used DVP, and the battery on it lasts a whole day on moderate usage, and almost 2 days on light usage.

My battery takes 4 hours for full charge via PC and finishes to zero in 5 hours. I charged it 100% this morning, disconnected it, put it on lock screen and I've just come home and the battery has fallen to 42% even though it was on lock screen. I always keep my screen on low brightness. Will my battery calibrate in a week or do I have to buy a new battery?
Oh and I am a VERY light user. My phone isn't unlocked so I don't use cellular connection. I simply message my friends on WhatsApp and browse the web a little. Battery just fell 2% again.
The battery life is crap, thats basically it. Had several devices, none of them could last a day without basically no usage at all. Best to get used to charging it whenever you can or get a spare battery.
Hmm other users are saying theirs last almost 2 days with light usage and I don't even use cellular and it dies extremely fast! The battery life may suck but no device will kill a battery like my DVP is doing right now.If my battery is bad should I buy one of these and which one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BATTERY-D...808?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a0f77e3f0
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-O...340?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f115330f4
Sadly none of those look legit, the second one has the incorrect wattage (actuall 1400mah) and the first one claims the battery will also fit the Venue, which I think is incorrect. Try contacting the sellers to confirm compatibility and if they will accept returns for a refund.
It comes with a 12 month warranty and and returns accepted if there is a fault. Even if it isn't original will it last and solve the problem I have?
If you can return it, buy it and test it. Only way to know if that will fix your problem. Only other thing I can think of is doing a hard reset and seeing how the device performs with few or no apps installed.
Hmm that seems like the only way. I've already messaged the seller asking him if his battery will fix it and then if it doesn't I will return it. By the way I don't think a hard reset would work as the device was doing this from the first time. Also I already did a hard reset once to change the SD card and it still goes as fast. Thanks for all your help guys.

DVP's battery life is not the best, but as a heavy user I can make 18-22 hours without charging (lot of phone calls, 20-40 incoming e-mails / 1 account, refresh every 15 minute/, no push), which is quite good (of course not a BB 9700 .
I messaged the seller and told him about my problem to which he replied the battery he's selling will fix it, if not I can return it. And 22 hours is quite good battery life. I charged my DVP 100% this morning and went to school. I had no cellular connection so I didn't make any calls or texts and had WiFi off with screen on lowest brightness. I played 5 minutes of movies, took 5 pictures and played 5 minutes of games. When I came home I was down to 30%. A mate of mine suggested I should let my battery die completely then charge it up and do it a few times and that fixes it as he has a blackberry 9900 and he had my problem when he had his phone brand new and after going what he told me for 4 days his battery works fine now. So ill try what my mate told me and if it doesn't work by Saturday I'll order my new battery.
Btw battery fell from 100% to 0% in 9 hours.

DVP's battery life is not the best, but as a heavy user I can make 18-22 hours without charging (lot of phone calls, 20-40 incoming e-mails / 1 account, refresh every 15 minute/, no push), which is quite good (of course not a BB 9700 .

I bought my first DVP back in December 2010, exchanged it a few times before the wifi crashing bug was fixed, beta tested the fix for the crashing, and on none of those devices has the battery been able to last a day. That's been my experience, with normal usage.

All about charging HTC 1

could you write in this thread all your experience with charging HTC 1?
time (0-100% ON and OFF), charger (is original 1A enough? can 1,5A or higher damage a battery), tips and tricks (batteries have usually 1000 cycles - is charging from 10% to 20% is one cycle?...)...
I miss 50 minutes of charging from 10-90% in my old Xperia S...
I don't know how long it takes to charge from 0-100% because I don't let my phone die. Charging with more than 1A won't benefit you because the One can only use 1A. A full charge cycle is going from 0-100%. 50-100% will be half a cycle. I'm not sure how many cycles this phone is rated for. I hope I was able to help. I'm sure someone more knowlegdable will chime in.
Is it me or has anyone else noticed significantly faster charge times with latest firmware on sense 4.3?

I'm on android revolution HD and using elemental x kernel with fast charge. Can't tell if it's fast because of kernel or 4.3.

I have to check it, but new ARHD 4.0 based on 3.07 firmware seems charge 80% in about 80 minutes...

fast means? 1h 0-100%? stock charger with 1A?
Sorry, I've never measured it. I just charge whenever I can. The kernel has an option for USB fast charging. So thinking about it now, I think my phone does charge faster because of 4.3.
---------- Post added at 05:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:25 PM ----------
Charged the phone for 33 mins. Went from 28% to 52%. So it charged 24%. I have data off, sound off, screen off, GPS off and sync off.
I bought the HTC One charger from the HTC online store (yeah sadly its $25 ) but it charges my phone so quickly on a stock unmodified kernel im surprised
What to believe?

Hi, the problem with charging the HTC One is that there is no definitive method defined. There are so many different and conflicting methods as to how to charge and calibrate the one. Time will tell as to which is actually tell, as I suspect that xda users batteries are the most likely to peg out quickest, given their tendency to:
- use the device
- flash
The only credible source of info for this subject really should be HTC. Id be interested to know if anyone has had the instance of getting their battery replaced via warranty. (i.e. will/do the batteries last the 2 year warranty period).
Here some info.
Charging :
No matter which charger you use phone it self won't allow more then 1a even if charger can do more , this is for safety reasons.
Charging time :
HTC one supports fast charge from Qualcomm but htc disabled it due to preserving longer battery life since we can't access the battery.
My phone usually takes around 2 / 2:20 hrs to charge from 20 to 100%. Screen off , if you're using the phone it'll charge much slower , turning the phone off won't really benefit you much faster charging , don't expect more then 5/10% faster charging.
How long will battery last in one :
Here's my rough calculation :
The battery in one is supposed to last around 1000 cycles.
1cycle = 0/100% charge , 50/100 = half cycle , 0/20 or 50/70 ( doesn't matter ) = 1/5 cycle.
How long will battery last ... well roughly everyones battery on xda even huge time flashers / gamers should last 1 year , if you calculate like this , 3 full charges per day ( 0/100% ) will last you 1 year without wearing battery at all , then we can expect 10% loss , but take this in consideration , if you charge phone 3x in a day fully discharged charged it'll take 9 hrs roughly to do 3 full charges and battery will last minimum 3 hrs screen time even if you were able to play 2 heavy games in the dame time so in total 18 hrs charges discharges , pretty much impossible to do in 1 day unless you really have that much time , no life , no needs for food etc it'll still last 1 year minimum.
Heavy user ( not super heavy like above ) will most likely charge 2 full charges per day so he's battery will last minimum a almost 2 years.
Average consumer charges phone once daily which would be 365 cycles in 1 year so you can say their battery will easily last 2.5 years +
Light user charges once in 2/3 days so battery will last 4/5 years before it losses any power.
LASTLY , us on XDA tend to change phones every now and then , usualy once per year so you have nothing to worry about HTC One battery !
Things you should never ever do !
- never discharge to 0%
- never game or super heavy use phone on charger
These 2 are the worst things you can possibly do to your phone.
Proper healthy charging :
Don't let your battery go under 20% , and charge it when you can ( I don't mean to charge it from 90/100 % lol ).
Healthy battery should last :
Average 16/20 hrs with heavy / moderate usage and 5+ hrs screen time ( I'll post pics of my average battery life bellow btw I'm heavy user and flashing literally every 2 days my phone. )
Deep sleep

Results before I put it on charger
This was 3/4g usage the whole time no wifi at all with average brightness 30/50/70%
If you're hard core gamer and playing heavy 3d games like a8 your battery should give you from 100% to 20% around 3:30 hrs play time , if playing daily 1hr you should lose average 15/25% per hr , I personally can play a8 for 4:20.
Important things for battery life and imo most important thing for good battery life / screen time is the deep sleep !
Example :
I lose average 1/2% per 10 hrs deep sleep , if a person with bad deep sleep ( wakelocks ) loses 10 % ( those guys consider this as good idle drain which is wrong ) for example : person who loses 10% and I lose 1/2 % I'll get out from 8 % which i didn't lose in deep sleep 40 mins of screen time average in 20hrs on battery person with 20% drain in 20 hrs will have 0 screen time and 80% on battery while I'll have same ammount of time on battery with 1hr 20/30 mins screen time.
Simple app for good deep sleep is greenify.
Hope this helps and answers some questions.

Hi,
thanks for the above, but how do you know the above to be true? I dont mean to be disrespectful, but are you aware of anything from "official sources", i.e. Htc. I have a personal favorite way of calibrating and charging, but when I published it there is always someone who has a different opinion. I'll give your methods above a try to see if it makes a difference.

I have no problem with that. Shame HTC dont inform their customers, rather than us all having to work it out.
5 hours of screen time is average? I'm lucky if I get 3 hours

just the stuff. Thanks. Didnt mean to question anyone elses inputs, its just useful to get a deeper understanding.

AFAIK the 1.55HBOOT enables FastCharge by default and you won't need a custom kernel for it. Seen multiple reports of much faster charging with this HBOOT which was installed with the 4.2.2 OTA

Sweet , i'm still @ 1.54 hboot , not really chasing latest Hboot unless i have issues which i don't , i'll just wait for official ota then i'll update it , as for charging time , ive noticed 4.2.2 charged faster for me then 4.3 not by much tho , used to charge 1hr 85% form 10% so in overall i was getting charge 0-85% in around 1hr 1:10 then last 15% in 30 mins , i guess HTC disabled fast charging for the over night charges WHICH ARE NOT AFFECTING battery life endurance for those who are curious. as for 4.3 it charges from 0-100 in around 2:30/2:50 , here little explanation about that i forgot to add in my huge post:
OVERNIGHT CHARGING:
- Those who are worried you shouldn't be , HTC disabled fast charge after 95% so last 5% should/ will charge much slower then other and when phone reaches 100% and you leave it overnight lets say + 6 hrs on charger with 100% you don't need to be worried , phone will stop charging and you'll lose by default max 3/1% in idle drain so battery will charge only 1/3% which is NOTHING.
FAST CHARGE:
This is disabled by HTC and custom kernels don't enable this ( it's quallcomm tech for fast charging ) tho ArmedandDangerous says 1.55 has it enabled ^.^ , anyway fast charge from kernels only incrases charging time via USB connected to PC which still isn't faster then wall charging.

I think what you said is mostly true, but in my experience prove different. My phone charges twice as fast on my Nexus 10 charger which is higher amp rating then the stock htc one. I can charge usually in about 2 hrs or less.
If you use Nokia's or Samsung's charger (e.g mine are 650mAh and 750mAh) will increase charging time, be sure you use original charger (with 1A) and you get fastest charges. This is nothing to do with charger itself, smartphones are smart enough to change input voltage to what's needed.
