[Q] Unavailable stock SBF version - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there, new to the Android scene.
Just about to flash my Defy with CM7.1 however first a concern:
My system version is 34.145.18.MB525.TNZ.en.NZ, build number 3.4.2-145 version 2.2.2. Running on 2degrees network in New Zealand but it's primarily a Telecom NZ network phone.
When I match the build number with the table at (and-developers dot com/sbf:defy damn new user link restriction) I get
"Australia Optus JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2-145 900 / 2100 N/A not mirrored".
This concerns me because a) it's not my carrier's ROM and b) it's not mirrored
IF I was to flash my defy with CM7.1 and needed a factory recover for warranty, would I even be able to do the recover in the first place and if so, would the store be able to see I flashed a custom firmware because I'm running a version other than 34.145.18.MB525.TNZ.en.NZ?
Is there any way I can make my own full/fixed SBF of the current firmware?
Cheers, thought it's better to be safe than sorry.

No ideas? I really would like to get off 2.2...

How have you got on with this, im running the same telecom system version as you and want to flash to cm7, im pretty new to all this.

I haven't done it yet. Was hoping to get a response so that I could go forth but I'm not willing to do so without knowing that I can get back to the stock TNZ firmware if I need to warranty.

flashing to stock

Hi,
I am very new to android and all that it is about.
My wife's phone had some water damage and was repaired for free via a friend's friend. However for somereason they flashed it with the localised orange version (froyo 2.2) and this version has things we don't need and is lacking some features, before that it was a 2.2.1 stock unbranded version (the device was imported from HK) which I would like to go back to, but I am unsure which of the files in stock rom thread I need to download.
What is the difference between the different files (other than the version number) and what is the difference between the regions?
Currently the phone is:
PDA:I9000JHJP8
Phone:I9000JHJP5
CSC: I900PTRJP8
Build info: 2010.10
Thanks in advance

back to stock

Hi
I was on darky's rom 10.2 but i couldn't get along with that battery issue gingerbread has it and also wanted to go back to stock froyo. I flashed eclair XWJM7 (i read somwhere that is better to flash eclair first) in order to update through kies to FROYO. But when i connect to kies (it's the latest update) it says that "this version cannot be updated". I am from Romania and my network is Orange. I just want to have my phone back as it was when i bought it.
current firmware version: PDA:JM7 / PHONE:JM3 / CSC:JM1 (XEN)
please someone help me and thanks in advance
probably better to just flash the stock version your phone came with. then update from there.
k......only if i knew what stock version my phone came with. all that i know is that it was eclair.

There's a SEA-Retail sbf in there. Look for the one that ends with "-searet". And yes, it's the full stock sbf.
As has been warned many times in this forum, if you don't know what you're doing, DO NOT flash an sbf. It might brick your phone. Although 4.5.2A is the latest version for SEA (which means it should be safe - bricking only occurs when downgrading), I'd still recommend caution.
i c..so after i unlocked and flash custom rom, can i use this sbf to back to stock and perform ota? or after unlocked bl, i could not use ota if it is available..
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
You can use that to go back to stock, but only if you were on the same/earlier build. Do not use sbf to downgrade.
hmm..ok..mean that if i flash custom rom from 4.5.2A version of 2.3.4, if wan to go back stock, i only can flash this 4.5.2A sbf to get back to stock rite?

Yes.
that's nice..thank for the answer..by the way, can I still update to official ics through ota update if Motorola release it using this sbf? it won't brick my device right?
You *should* be able to update from stock ROM, but since official ICS isn't out yet, we still don't know if Moto changes anything in their update policy. They could in theory prevent the updates to be installed on unlocked devices.
In any case, when the official update hits, I'll bet the devs are gonna be all over it anyway...
ok..maybe i will just unlocked it and use because i not sure when is ics will release for international version..thanks for help ya..
ICS has only been confirmed for US (AT&T) devices. Other regions are still "under evaluation". Seeing how the US version is currently on 2.3.6 and other regions on 2.3.4, I wouldn't bet on Motorola releasing ICS internationally unless there's a huge pressure from users like with Milestone's Froyo update.
so there might had chance that international version might not get the ics upgrade?
Yes. Looking at Motorola's update history, there's a chance that the international version won't get ICS (at least officially).
i see..but motorola update schedule listed the asia retail as ics upgrade in planing. so it might fail during the process?
From Motorola's Upgrade News:
PHASE 1 – EVALUATION & PLANNING: During this phase, we evaluate the benefits, technical issues and user experience of an upgrade. Generally, we are not able to provide release dates in this stage. There are also some cases in which we can state that an upgrade will happen but are not able to provide a release date. Please note that some products that enter the Evaluation and Planning phase may not complete the upgrade cycle.
wow..seriously speechless..but then never mind. if its fail, I still can grab custom rom that based on at&t ics right?
Yes. I do hope we get an official ICS release, though.

[Q] What to expect after an OTA installation on a rooted GT-I9505

Hi All,
I have used CF-Auto-Root when I first got my phone about 3 months ago and rooted successfully and it changed my device status from Official to custom and therefore I was never able to check for OTA or install them.
I have also tried CF's Triangle Away at that time but it never set the status back to Official until last night when I installed the latest TA version 3.05 and this had worked it's magic and my phone status is now back to Official and I found an available OTA and downloaded it but I have not installed it yet. Why? Because I am almost sure I will lose root after installing the OTA update and I am not sure if I am able to re-root it again as I have heard and read that Samsung is trying to lock things down to make it harder for us to play around with our phones.
I My current build number is JDQ39.I9505XXUAMDE so if I am not mistaken, that means I am on firmware XXUAMDE.
The phone does not tell me any info after it completed the OTA download about this upfate apart "Stability Improvement"
My questions are:
1. How can I tell if this new firmware is not going to lock things down?
2. Would I be able to easily re-root after completing the firmware update?
I just plugged in my phone to my computer and Samsung Kies is telling me this:
Current firmware version : PDA:MDE / PHONE:MD8 / CSC:MD8 (VAU)
Latest firmware version : PDA:MG4 / PHONE:MG1 / CSC:MG1 (VAU)
and asking me if I want to upgrade.
Can someone help me answer my questions and clear this for me?
Sorry for all these questions but I am just a little worried this update will be a bad move and I don't want to regret it.
Thanking you in advance for putting up with me and my apologies if some of these questions are repeated or dumb.
AFAIK, MG4/MG1 is not sooo new, and it's still not afected by the 'knox' bootloader thing.
I upgraded to MGA (AMN) some 3 weeks ago, using KIES, temporarylly lost root, but flashet CF Auto Root again, and .... voila! good to go again.
.... oh yes, I had to install supersu again from play store (somehow it was rooted, but the application was not there).
Hope that can help you!
Bak
Thanks Bak for the info.
I was doing some more googling and I came across these 2 pages:
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/4...ial-android422-xxuamde-jellybean-firmware.htm
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/4...roid422-xxuamdn-jellybean-official-update.htm
There is something wrong here as my phone is I9505 and it came with the amde unlike what is suggesting that official firmware for I9505 is amdn.
I got my phone from Voda Australia hence the VAU.
If I am reading this correctly:
Current firmware version : PDA:MDE / PHONE:MD8 / CSC:MD8 (VAU)
Latest firmware version : PDA:MG4 / PHONE:MG1 / CSC:MG1 (VAU)
Then after the OTA update then I should be on XXUAMG4 ? I really don't get this whole PDA / PHONE / CSC variables.
I am just tempted to install it and thinking if anything goes wrong or not to my liking then I can use the link I provided above to flash my phone with the official xxaumdn and this does not have the "knox" bootloader thing?
good decision mate! dont flash to the latest MH8 firmware cuz it locks out your fone.
sadly i've flashed mine without reading around. little did in know, MH8 includes knox with locked my phone.
right now i'm having root problems. tried using CF 1.60 the latest one.. which they said can bypass the knoxx thing. we'll i'm still having problems getting root access.. IDK why.
just wait and see. a dev might come up with some work around this KNOX bootloader thing

Just checked with www.samfirmware.com
If you select the 'check your firmware', you'll see that the last version for i9505 and Australia VAU (vodaphone) is PDA:MG4 / PHONE:MG1 / CSC:MG1
So your carrier (vodaphone) hasn't released the MHx version yet (versions MHx hsve the knox thing)
PDA / PHONE / CSC are different pieces of the software/firmware, and may have different releases (you can even play with different ones, for instance, a diferent PHONE to be able to sim unlock, etc....)
If I was you, I'd let KIES do the update (it's the safest, together with the OTA), and re-root it.
Good luck
Bak
Thanks Bak. I upgraded over the weekend and re-rooted it and all is back to normal now.
I even got Triangleaway to reset counter and back to official status.
Thanks for all your info.

[Q] Milestone 2 - Vivo Brasil 2.3.6 downgrade

Hi everyone, I might be a little late to the party but I recently booted up my Milestone 2 to Cyanogen Mod., but then decided it may be affecting my battery life, so I decided to flash a UK 2.3.4 SBF.
Long story short, I idiotically flashed it with a Vivo Brazil ROM ages back when doing this kinda stuff before, I was able to somehow get it on Cyanogenmod but I'm looking for a way to downgrade from this version to the UK stock ROM it was originally on (This version is full of apps not from my country, and also doesn't support the UK baseband).
I'd also like to know what this BL=4 thing is... does that stand for bootloader?
