So does the Xyboard (xoom 2) take Micro SD or no? The pictures show that there is a slot for it right next to where the sim card goes, but there's no mention of its functionality!

I wouldn't expect ICS to be on the Xyboard before it reaches the Xoom. The Xyboard has the ever popular (sarcasm) MOTOBLUR interface rather than AOSP firmware, so that puts a roadblock in the way of timely firmware updates. The Xoom is a Google Experience Device which means updates can come directly from Google.
If they want to sell this tablet maybe they will forced to update to ics faster than xoom . I'm pretty happy with it - though the last tablet I actually used for any length of time was a P3 ViewSonic... UI seems plenty smooth enough, very comfortable to use - I've been using Evernote+SwiftKey in meetings to make notes, works like a dream. Had to ferret around a bit to find drivers that worked for USB support, and that's only MTP (somewhat understandably). Not sure what else to add - all the basics work well, no WiFi issues, HDMI-out works fine - as others have mentioned it's a bit disappointing that it's missing ICS, micro SD, and a few other things - but given that I'm mainly using it for work, once I get my hands on the active stylus and a decent case it should all be fine.
does it have haptic-feedback ? Can you also check what processor tablets have ? Few reports saying that it has nvidia and other ti omap ....

I think that this is very unlikely. The video you linked to of the Archos tablet shows the tablet running the AOSP version of Ice Cream Sandwich. The Xyboard has MOTOBLUR which means Motorola will have more work to do before getting ICS working the Xyboard. I'd pretty much bet my life savings that the Xoom will get ICS before the Xyboard. Of course I don't have a very good record of winning bets...
The Xoom gets updates staight from Google. The Xyboard requires extra leg work by Motorola, who clearly have their hands full since they've released such an insane amount of devices in a short amount of time. I think that's all you need to know. Then again, I'm probably wrong.
you probably correct but xoom updates did not roll as smooth or quicker than other devices so maybe this is not the case .Just lets hope that manufactures learn their lessons with 1.6 2.2 fiasco and tablets will gets their updates in reasonable time and consumer will not have to wait 6 months to have ics ...

That is false. Where are you getting your info? The Xoom has gotten every Honeycomb update first. Asus Transformer updates have typically been 2-4 weeks behind. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 owners didn't even get an update to Android 3.2 until late November. And these are all devices running "vanilla" versions of Honeycomb. Non-vanilla firmware is guaranteed to have a slower update schedule.

I just readed few threats in this forum . I don't own xoom tablet but why few xoom tablets are stuck with older hc than 3.2 until now ?

Maybe some of the international (Non USA) Xoom tablets have been slower to update, technically some of these are not considered "Google Experience Devices" apparently.
I live in the United States and I know that our Xoom's have been first to get all of the updates, and I expect that to continue since no "Google Experience" tablets have been released other than the Xoom.
So is the Droid Xyboard considered a Google Experience device?
AND WHY THE HELL DOES IT HAVE A MICRO SD CARD SLOT IF ITS NOT MICRO SD CAPABLE???????!!!
This is driving me nuts, and Motorola is very hush hush about it and whether it will ever see an upgrade to allow it to work (like they did with the Xoom!)
I want the Xyboard sooooo sooooooo sooooo bad - so much so that I'm willing to sacrafice having a quad-core processor, and even paying the monthly verizon charges (which is lame because I can tether any other tablet to my phone)...
But I own a 32 GB microSD card and I refuse to pay extra for more memory and have that MicroSD card go to waste!
But its looking like the MicroSD was not functional in the UK, and will not be functional in the US... and poor me will have to get the Transformer Prime instead!
Come on Motorola, don't make me get the Prime! lol

I think this device is a fail and barely an upgrade from the xoom. Also it has the worst name ever Xyboard. Really Motorola, When someone asks what tablet i have i do not want it to be called the Xyboard.

Based on the last CES Archos launched their Archos 101 Home tablet. Archos Home tablet edition has a much lower specs compared to Archos Internet tablet edition but in the video provided at Archosfans.com it says that it has support to Gingerbread and Future Version of android.
Does this mean that the Current Archos 101IT edition can still be upgrade to those version of android?
Any thoughts in thi matter???

No one has mentioned making a Gingerbread ROM.
i stumbled upon a video on youtube. the video is captured at last weeks CES.
in the video they ask the guy if honeycomb will be on the tablet. he says "uh yah"
he also mentions how full flash capability will be available by end of month.

Won't know until we try. They said the same thing about Froyo until it was running on devices that had 256MB.

Exactly. We get into a Windows and Mac mindset but Android is different from those systems in that each progressive version gets a little better at using system resources, not worse so you don't always have to upgrade the hardware to run the new software. My original MyTouch phone with a 600 ghz processor and 128 mb of memory runs much smoother on froyo than it ever did on donut or eclair.
That said, there are diminishing returns and Honeycomb is really a major step up in terms of functionality so I am not holding my breath that Archos will take the time to upgrade considering they will be probably be putting out new devices by then. I love my A70 but I sort of look at it like an early adopter type device to see how useful the form factor for me (it is...I have an hour to 90 minute commute and it is perfect).
I plan to upgrade and maybe even get a contract (yikes!) for a honeycomb tablet later this year. I would never consider $275 chump change but if I can use it for 8 months to a year and then sell it for $100-150 to put toward an upgrade, I would be happy.
I considered the Galaxy Tab but a 2 year contract on this generation of devices is a bad move in my opinion.

What are the differences in the two devices? Other than the storage size they seem to be the same

Hi....so what is the stand of Acer related to us getting 3.2 ?
I hope the won't just update to 3.2 but also improve a lot a bugs related specifically to this tablet, for example rotation time....while using Virtuous Galaxy, one can tell this ain't hardware related but software related....
VG rom rotates sooooo much a faster than Acer roms that you can actually dare to rotate it..ans show friends how it handles it!
GPS also works poorly for me.

The core 3.2 drop from Google isn't exactly that feature rich (just a few font/sizing smoothing and SD card improvements) - Offical 3.2 release notes - so I'm with you in hoping for some general performance improvements from ACER directly.
Overall I'm not really waiting for 3.2 (at least not as much as I was for the 3.0 > 3.1 update) - that might change if Acer actually notified the community more about *what* they are doing in their releases - most of the time the only way to find what's changed is by poking around the update file after it's dropped.
I know it's for sure too early talk about (and a bit off topic too), but while I think that 3.2 will come for both A500 and A501, I'm quite worried about the timing. I'm new to Acer devices (only have HTC Desire as a cell phone). To the ones who has other Acer devices: what's their "support lifetime"?
And, another fear is (again, too early to say) about 4.0: I hope we will be covered but... again, who knows about their support duration?

By the time 4.0 comes out, the Tegra3 will be launching right along side/with it. Time for some quad core lovin'!

I've already made up my mind not to upgrade to a quad when it comes out. Duo is enough for me for now. The acer and gtab should last me for a while.
3.2 is for 7" tablet.. so why look for it?
expand/minimise window is nice , but 3.2? i think 3.1.1 would have be ok.
acer will not deliver anything good with 3.2, just resized window, what a fracking breakthrough..
well there is one part of the update that looks helpful: and that is the extended micro SD support. Meaning my music apps might actually be able to properly utilize my card.

I wouldn't worry too much. 4.0 will apparently be open sourced, like with 2.x, so rom builders can put together proper roms for the device rather than just modified versions of existing roms. 4.0 will come the iconia one way or another.

I agree that 3.2 is a minor update. However, if Asus and Moto are pumping it out I doubt that Acer will not follow suit. They already dropped the price to match the Asus so I have to believe they are keeping a close eye on the competition.
4.0 IceCream Sandwich is obviously the big update for the end of the year and really I'm thinking the a500 would be getting it. Probably not right at launch but fairly soon after. I'm of the opinion that Android has done a pretty good job of pumping out updates frequently and that keeps the carriers/manufacturers pretty loose with the hardware upgrade cycles. Meaning, unless there is a hardware limitation, I would bet the a500 gets the update since it has not been out that long. In the long run, even if it doesn't officially come from Acer, I'm sure the devs cook up some 4.0 goodness for us.

This is my first Acer so I can't speak on lifetime, but the joy of Android, I'll guess long after Acer has moved on to the next tablet (A600 ?) - there will still be some resourceful people here releasing custom ROM updates including whatever neat updates including in the next tablet generation - but I'll put money down that their support model will be slightly longer than most carriers and their phones.
well I'm in no rush for it and wasn't in a rush for 3.1 only thing I would like is for better gps

Don't quite follow the logic that because the 7 inch tab would be out, the 10 inch won't get it?? The 7 isn't considered an 'upgrade' just another option.

We'll get HC 3.2 the same way we got 3.1, 4-8 weeks behind Asia and Europe. I'm thinking we may very well get it here in the us by the time 4.0 comes out.....maybe?

I doubt there will be any hardware limitations, atleast I'm not aware of any. I'm quite sure there will be some cheap Tegra2 devices with Icecream Sandwich soon after it's released.

Acer sucks, I wouldn't hold my breath. It's likely that we'll need a custom ROM for A500.
google released a statement saying there were no new hardware limitations, so we should be compatible.
Well ics is going to open source all the other good tablets are tegra 2 so i couldn't imagine something getting cooked up a week or so after source drops

Yup. Just a little behind schedule - and without great communication.
This is typical Acer. Lucky part is - as Android users we can choose to not rely on the hardware devs and run custom roms.
ICS should definitly be able to be placed on the A500. All Android tablets now pretty much have the same hardware, the Tegra 2 chipset. If no ICS for the A500, I would assume no ICS for any Tegra 2 device. Which I believe 100% will not be the case.
And hopefully when ICS releases, they will release the source code so we can have AOSP ROMS. Then it wont matter whether Acer releases an official ROM because devs can build from AOSP and throw in the necessary code for the specific hardware of the A500.
Finally got the A500
I have been reading this user group comments for weeks now to gain as much info about the A500 as possible and after reading comments both good and bad, I decided to go out and buy.
I really love this device. It is better than I anticipated. It came with 3.01, however Acer upgraded the firmware over the weekend first to 3.1 and then to 3.2, so I am very impressed, (after having Samsung devices for 18 months and receiving no updates at all, still on 2.2).

My girlfriend makes the same threats Just Google 'Ice Cream Sandwich features' for some more info. They haven't released a whole lot of info yet, but in a nutshell it will be a a uniform operating system that will run on phones and tablets instead of 2 different OS. Some cool new features have been discussed, but I have a feeling there's a lot we won't find out about until it gets released (October/November last I heard).
It is officialy stated that tegra 2 devices wil be given ICS update.

Yea, I got myself an A100 and gave her my A500(bought her a logitech bluetooth keyboard to go with it). So I get the smaller lighter "nimbler" device. She got the bigger thicker device so she gets a stronger grip.
All kidding aside, tablets do make excellent platforms for watching porn with your partner. It even has dual cameras in case you want to make your own too.

I was taking their kidding and making a real comment that the 7" form factor tablet is a good blend for an aid to lovemaking, yes. While I joked with them, I meant my statement to have no innuendo and intended it to be just my obesrvation.
Certainly wasn't trying to offend and apologize if it came across the wrong way.

I consider everything rumor and speculation until it actually happens, even when it comes from companies themselves. But to date, we've been told that ICS is a merging of the phone and tablet OS. That in and of itself should allow us the luxury of surmising that this OS should work on all if not most devices currently running Gingerbread and Honeycomb at the very least.
It will be of course up to manufacturers to take the time to port it to their past devices, something not very many companies are ever willing to do since it doesn't really add any physical value (for them) to the product but I would think the current tablet providers would essentially get the update to their products as quickly as they can considering 1. they don't have a multitude of variants on the market and 2. they still have lots on store shelves etc. so it would indeed add physical value to their product - unlike for example, expecting HTC to update their Mytouch 4G or Samsung to update their Galaxy I US carrier line which have been on the market for almost a year.
Don't believe any rumors you hear and remember to take everything right now as speculation and with a grain of salt. Acer could very well today say they will update and a month or 2 after it's out tell us it won't/can't be done. Such is the way of tech.
I think it will come to the A500. Maybe not as quickly as it does to the Tab 10.1 or Transformer, but not too long afterwards. Acer has proven themselves to at the very least be consistent with their updates if albeit slow (for some), and so I'll take my positives where I can. I'm fine with slow and steady.

We will get it. How fast depends on model. The wifi will be the first to have it most likely with the 4g version getting 4 to 6 weeks later after Verizon gives it the OK. How long the delay between announcement and push is up to Motorola and how long they have been working with it. If past performance is any indicator then at least two other tablets will have it before we do.

The source code WILL be made available. Rubin said so in the past, when pointed out that HC sources were MIA, and he explained the reason for it, saying at the same time that Android sources will be again public once they reunify the 2.x and 3.x platforms into a cleaner, multi-devices software base.
Keep in mind that it's not just the OS based on the open source code that makes the tablet. Look at all those cheap Android 2.1/2.2 tablets - one of the things they often lack is access to the Android Market (in addition to using resistive screens, low performance SoCs, etc...). I suspect that you have to pay a license to Google to be allowed to bundle Google apps such as the official Android Market (someone might confirm this for me). This is where a major player like Samsung or Asus will distinguish itself from your average inexpensive Chinese-made tablet.
So, no reason at all for Google to refuse to distribute the code. Don't forget that the fact it's open-sourced is one of the main reasons behind its popularity.
So in the end, I'm fairly confident the Xoom will get ICS. If not from Morotola, then through unofficial builds from the public repository, like Cyanogen does for phones under 2.x.

Haven't sent my "4G" Xoom to MOTO/Verizon because I use it as WiFi only, will I have to send it in to continue on the upgrade path?

The Xoom isn't an official reference device, and it isn't a refdev for ICS. My guess is that ICS update will come from your friendly custom ROM sooner than from Moto-Goog, as else the new FamilyEd Xoom will need to be updated as well, which probably won't happen any time soon given its new low-end status. Prioritizing and differentiation will mean the focus of development will be on the Xoom2 toys. That's how it has always worked.
The good news is that with ICS hitting AOS, custom ROMs will get better, sooner. In tandem with the above, there'll be more reasons for you to go offroad with ICS, if you haven't already.

It has been this way for the US Xoom. Until now, Google has been the one who has pushed updates for US Xoom, so there is hope we will get ICS at some point, but i don't believe it's going to happen today. The reference SoC for ICS is TI OMAP, so it doesn't look good for our Tegra powered Xooms.

Apple isn't that different. Old toys don't get the new-fangled Siri thingie.
The 2nd-gen of Android tabs (mostly OMAP4) are only marginally better than the Teg2 hardware wise. ICS will be the big selling point. Differentiation means you don't let old toys have the same functions as the new, as that defeats the purpose of selling new toys.
Speaking of new toys, I like the MotoACTV. The first wearable (and likely hackable) Android device. It would be neat if one can shoehorn a full-fledged Android distro in there. Display is tiny, probably 320x240, but good enough for niche uses. Pricing is outrageous, but it'll drop soon enough.

actually the Source Code is already on AOSP's website for developers.
pardon my ignorance but sdk is good for making roms or just to make apps for it...or just to release hacks for other platforms like 3.2.2 ,etc. i just know its good lol but dont know what good it can be.
With the Galaxy Nexus not being released until sometime in November I think we may be waiting until December for an official release. Hope the devs can pull a rabbit out of a hat.
SDK could bring us a release but hardware acceleration is unlikely until we see the official release.

It says "upgradeable" on the item description, if you check the download section Honeycomb 3.2.1 as below is available.

It's available for multiple SKU, not just US.
It's dated 19 October 2011 so it's quite recent. When they'll have ICS up only they know for sure.

Yes it has the capability to upgrade to ICS when it is available. That doesn't mean today.
Sales pitch, like the Xoom was upgradable from 3g to LTE.

Upgradable does not always means u can upgrade now, it means aslo it is able to be upgraded to 4.0

I'll be honest and say that the Asus Transformer was not something that appealed to me but with the announced specs of the Transformer 2, it has really got me excited. One thing that is really important is the update support from Asus. From what I can gather, it seems like Asus are pretty on the ball with releasing timely updates for the Transformer? Is this really true? The fact that it seems like ICS will be released on the original Transformer is a great confidence booster.
Comments/Suggestions all welcome.

ASUS has been the best, bar none, at updating their Android tablet. Samsung still hasn't updated the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to 3.2, for example, although they've announced that ICS will be coming to it someday. This is just one reason why I've become a huge ASUS fan since buying my Transformer.

That's very encouraging. However, I'm not a massive early adopter so I'll probably wait for some decent reviews and for Asus to release ICS update before I take the plunge. I really want a tablet that can run Android buttery smooth and really think the TF2 is the one.

It already runs buttery smoothe. Much better than anything else I've used with android. If you want to save money I would get the first one. If money isn't an issue I would definitely wait and grab the Prime. The other tablets are jokes compared to these.

Well that is certainly reassuring. I was thinking of getting the TF101 (people told me to wait for the Prime, but I thought the hardware on the TF101 is fine). As long as the TF101 runs ICS without a hick I'll be happy. ICS is designed for dual core processors, right?

Price is not my primary concern but video play back is as that is what I will be mainly using it for. The tegra2 chips are all really poor for video decoding which is why I haven't invested in a tablet yet. The Asus prime and Toshiba excite are the only tablets that I know (coming out before xmas) that have a better chip than the tegra2 for video decoding. Both are really sexy and seem worth spending the extra on over current cheaper tablets. I guess I'll find out for sure when tjd tablets are properly released and reviews start trickling down.
As far as dual core goes I'm unsure what ics is doing. All I know is honeycomb runs great so if ics runs better I'll be stoked.

I agree! Too many ICS update and ICS Port(s) threads! I work in Western Australia's mining boom so I'm cash rich but time poor (for how long, is a crash coming?). I seem to spend hours reading these threads, enjoyable though they are,
What I need is either a way for the XDA system or a human being to alert me when a "mostly" working port (ICS Port release candidate?) or Upgrade (for field testing) is available. I have 5 Android devices atm so if a beta release has problems on one of them, I'll still be able to stay in contact with the developers any of the others.
Maybe a technical report whenever there's real progress for which I would pay, specially if it gets written up in somewhere like India where English skills are high, and the exchange rate is good (about 50 Rupees to the dollar atm!)
Find a few more customers like me, live in a place with low cost of living, and you've got yourself a viable business, it would seem.
Hint I have receive pm set up for xda.
I'm gonna wait to upgrade until I see how the new Samsung is with it's high res display tablet next year. Also what iPad 3 will be like.
OK, that's it. I am officially sick of hearing about Ice Cream Sandwich.
Or, more to the point, I am sick of not hearing about it, and seeing the same thing posted over and over again and old threads being bumped for no good reason.
