Sound control in notification area App...
Found this wee app today.
Might be handy for anyone who likes to customise their tabs to their own tastes.
Have not tried it yet, what do you think? any good?

I do like the mute button, but is there some reason simply using the hardware keys do not suffice?

My hardware key broke. Still works but harder to press. Probly cuz ive flashed almost every ROM there was,i wore out the darn things!

very useful, thank you.

Another UI Program (Free): V2R

I accidentally came across this on the net. Its a hell of a plugin. Im surprised I hadnt heard of it before.
http://v2r.ag/
i saw it sometime ago, but found it a bit awkward to work with. and i couldn't get some of the icons and layouts to display properly. but the look is good.
I'm interested in the Media Player plugin....Will download shortly
So, is it free? I can't find it...
Interesting.. I cant decide if I should give it a try or not
I seen it a while ago, But didnt know it was free.

Nice find Vukile!
Odd that all of us PPC geeks would have missed this. Has anyone tried it? Is it worth it? Last time I tried a new cool UI type app (PointUI), I ended up having to hard reset....not really looking forward to that right now.
Thanks.

The UI is free, but the plugins and contact software is not.
I'll give it a try, hope this won't end in a hard reset

tried activeui and activeui multi touch, but it looks crappy.. maybe not for vga screens.. (X51V)

I guess I probably did not have to resort to a hard reset due to PointUI. But there is no "proper" uninstall...so it takes manually removing files and registry keys. Rather than wonder what else it left, I did a hard reset. It was a good time to flash a new ROM anyway
Unfortunately it's not very good. Both the normal as well as the multi-touch are a pain to use. I might not have noticed but what exactly is so multi-touch about it?
Wow.. what a nice find. It works perfect with my Hermes using KinOkin 1.30b Rom.. It's not strange, it just different. I like to try it more..
screwed my phone up...played hell trying to get it off....
i kind of like it....using it on my tilt....takes getting use to but the look of it i think is better than pointui....
Its like Throttle Launcher scrolling on the today screen. this app is very much underrated.. As for PointUI, SK Tools cleaned up after it and I used the softkey applet to set my softkeys again. In the same breath, if you ask me, its Mortbuttons in a different guise, at least its free.
Interesting ui, but ultimately not very good and very usable! Slow menus and unresponsive scrolling don't help.
Looks nice, but is a pain to use, will keep an eye on it though as it has potential.
Also once you uninstall it, it leaves its little installation system on your phone!

really like its looks and functions. it's just very very slow. otherwise, i like it more than pointui.

[APP IDEA] Adjust ring volume based on phone environment (via proximity sensor)

Basically adjust the ring volume depending on what environment the phone is in. I imagine two ring settings, 1 loud for one when it is in a pocket or bag (proximity sensor sensor is triggered) and 1 quieter one for when it is not (like on a table..). The light sensor could also be utilized in conjunction but I'm not sure if that would really add any value...
Doesn't sound too complicated to me..What do you guys think? Does something like this already exist?
EDIT: I think I may have heard HTC sense handsets already have this feature? Does anyone know?
My Desire doesn't have this, or at least not that I've noticed or can find.
I like it as an idea though.

Nope, I think what you mean by the HTC Sense handsets having the the feature of reducing the ringer volume when you pick up the phone. But nevertheless, you've got a great idea, though it'll probably add to the battery drain.

I am still looking for an app that will switch the phone to vibrate based on proximity sensor (i.e. when you put it in the case or pocket) and switch it back when removed. So far no luck (sigh)..
well now that the app inventor has been released (sorta, i havent gotten my invite yet..) this seems like something straightforward enough to give it a shot myself.
There is a app like that, I think its called roxy something, sane guys that did the beautiful widgets ... levelone?
Oh, and AFAIR it used microphone to analyze the ambience (boring ass meeting vs. subway station for example)

Not sure who you are replying to.
I was looking for a VIBRATE based on proximity sensor.
That app does not seem to do that.
Also, on a quick glance I noticed only an Android version.
The HD2 runs WinMo as released.

Day with a Droid X

Well Hi All. Madhouse here. A buddy of mine who is a firefighter is also a part time Verizon employee, he was gracious enough to let me carry a droid X demo for the day here. It's currently 12:37 pm here and i will have access to the phone for a few more hours here. I made a few videos and took some pictures, i will try my best to answer any requests made in this thread while i have the phone. A few basic principals apply. Obviously i will not be demoing any rooting or hacking type activities on the phone because it is not mine.
Look forward to the questions! Enjoy!
(Will be editing and putting links to the videos in a minute here)
This is a test sample of the droid x's video capability in 720p

Wow, lucky! I know this may seem dumb... but an alternate home (such as LauncherPro) can be installed, right?
Also, what's the screen like? Is it very responsive/accurate?

I'll check into the launcher thing for you and the screen is AMAZINGLY accurate, i'll have a video of the multitouch vis app test up in a minute. It makes the Evo (My phone) look terrible as far as touch responsiveness.
how loud does the "loud" speaker sound compared to other smartphones? Also do you feel that the dual leds are very bright? Do the hard buttons on the front feel like they are good quality?

I was going to make a video but im using the Evo to make the videos, but yeah, it is SPOT ON for the touch sensitivity, makes the Evo look like it's stuck in the mud. Probably due to the FPS cap or something for all i know.

It's big, it's especially big if you turn it sideways. I'm a big guy too (6'4" 268 lbs.) The keyboard feels natural too, it's of good size. It has a multitouch keyboard as well as swype for fast typing.

Swype works VERY well for people with large fingers because its just dragging it across the keyboard and yes the keyboard feels great.

So you can't install Launcher Pro from the market?! I don't care about the default one, just need to know I can replace it with something else from the market.
This is what should happen (in case you don't know):
->Install Launcher Pro
->Hit home
->A box should come up asking what launcher you want to use (if you get to here it works).

Does this necessarily mean Launcher Pro is running instead of Moto's default? Or can it be on top of the original (i.e. wasting mem/cpu, running both)?
The choice it gives on pressing the home screen is just that it recognizes there are 2 registered apps that handle launcher requests, right? It doesn't necessarily kill one for the other, does it?
Only had Android for a few weeks, so sorry if silly question.

Built-in screenshot function

Alright, so....don't know if many people know about this, but there's a built-in screenshot function on the epic 4g. On the device keyboard, hold the back button and hit the home button a couple of times
Sorry if everyones knows about it, just thought it'd come in handy for people who don't.

THANK YOU!!! I did this once accidentally and have spent much time trying to figure out how to do it again to no avail. It appears not many people know this trick, as searching both google and the forums was unproductive for me. There is a similar trick for the galaxy tab that seems to be well known, but is accomplished differently.

Sent from my shoe, I mean....Epic shoe... I mean Samsung Epic! http://mobilehighway.blogspot.com/
NOPE I cant get it to work on mine, (stock rom )
meh cool but i rarely take screenshots of anything lol
It's a feature in Froyo only. Several, if not all, phones with Froyo have the capability.
The reason it only works with the hardware keys and not the capacitive buttons is because of the way that Samsung made them work. For whatever reason, the capacitive buttons don't actually respond to your finger pressing the button, but rather the finger lifting from the button, making a long-press impossible. Why this is the case is beyond me, as my Samsung TV and PS3 both have capacitive buttons and both respond to the actual physical touching (proof in that they both have long-press functions on the buttons).
Also, you only need to press home once. Just hold back for about three seconds before pressing it.
Must be a Froyo thing, works for me. Only issue is that pics are sideways (landscape only). Still prefer "ShootMe" though.

ROM with hardware gestures?

Hello guys!
Been lurking, but this is my first post and first of all I just wanted to say this: big fan of what's going on in this forum! Love seeing the positive atmosphere and intelligent projects being posted here!
So to my somewhat small question(?), I'm coming from iOS, and once you jailbroke it, you were able to install a tweak which made you able to skip songs by doing a longer pressing down of the volume bar. It was really convenient, because then you could skip backwards, forwards, and even start/stop the songs without pulling your phone out.
So, is there anything similar to this for the Android? Maybe a ROM that has it or something?
See you guys around

Hi buddy, that is a nice first post.
Welcome to Android.
With Android you don't need to root/jailbreak your phone to get these feauters, are you using OnePlus 2, if yes, Go to settings> Gestures you can find all amazing features you can do without even switching your phone screen on.

Thank you for your reply krishna442!
However, it seems I'm only able to turn on four gestures, and they're all bound to touching the screen, which in turn means I have to pull my phone out of the pocket. It may seem like a small thing, but I really miss that one small thing from the iOS. Being able to change songs while running/when having tight pants and the hassle that brings about (haha) and such.
What I'm looking for is a hardware gesture, bound to the volume buttons, and from what I can see, that does not exist.
Oh, forgot to say, I'm using OxygenOS 2.2.1.
With kind regards,
Hege

Have a nice stay at Xda.
You don't need to flash a new ROM to do this. You just need Poweramp, which is generally regarded as one of the best music players on Android, and Pocket Skip Track. This will let you skip tracks on a double press of the volume buttons (but only when the screen is off). If you're rooted and use a kernel set to Permissive mode you can set it to work on long press as well, but double clicks are fine for me.
I think it's possible using xposed+gravitybox
