[Q] Intermittent problems, and "message not sent" errors - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello all,
I've been using android on my HD for about a year, and for about 6 months I have been using NAND rather than SD card developed versions.
Please forgive me if this is a post already made, but I have tried looking for solutions via Google, searching the forums.... Lets see if you can help.
I will at times have full signal strength and will have texts repeatedly unable to send. Also, with full strength I'll try to place a call, the call screen opens, and then will either do 1 of 2 things.
1. "Call ended" and it displays the call time, from what appears to be the last call time to that number.
2. Call ended, no notification otherwise.
After I restart my phone, I tend to get out 1 good call before the issue starts again. Texting will also intermittently go in and out. I can send 4 or 5 then the 6th starts having unresolvable issues.
Please, if you could help, or point me to a thread that addresses this I'd really appreciate it.
This is not build-specific. The past 2 have been effected. One was a cyanogen build, the other a Nexus port.
This is horribly frustrating.
Rebooting the phone fixes the issue.

Phone application (radio?) not responding!

Hi,
On my XDAII (1.72) I sometimes experience a not responding phone/SMS application or radio stack.
People trying to call me are instantly redirected to the voicemail, and if I try to make eiter a call or send a text message, respectively the phone application is stalling or the SMS 'Send' button stays in the 'pressed' state.
Soft-resetting the phone or toggling the 'turn off radio' function re-establishes the radio.
Does anyone knows of a solution?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated and possibly rewarded with a 6-pack Heineken beer
weird, mines just done the same thing. I sent an sms and nothing. I was then taken to the phone screen and it said something like invalid sim something.
I'm wondering if the sim card is not locked in place. I was fiddling around with mine yesterday and maybe forgot to lock the sim card in place.
Just a thought but maybe worth checking
what radio version do you have ? I recently have the problem that when people call me, the ringtone goes for about 2 seconds, then restarts, etc.
Meanwhile I can do nothing ( green button don't work) . When the caller hangs up my phone returns to the normal state.
I use radio 1.18. Thinking of downgrading to 1.17 which people say is more stable.

ah.....
Hello folks,
I have the same problem now for a week... It's driving me crazy... At
some point in time during the night or the day my Qtek2020 gets weird.
The result is that people trying to call me can't connect but to viocemail,
and I can't receive SMS. The only way I can see that I am having this
problem is that whenever I try to send a SMS I get a message "your SMS
cannot be sent", and if I try to make a call, the phone seems to dial out
normally the first second, but then the DIAL-button (which is color-less)
becomes green again...
Please, if someone knows what's wrong or if someone had the same
problem and solved without having to default the whole thing, please
let me know what is the solution.. It is really annoying, so I now have
to randomly reset my phone throughout the day.
PS: my battery is now on 4% so I have to look for my charger, and
after that I can supply with info about radio-version etc. I am running
WM2003 by the way, and I've had no problems like this before, this
unit has been working fine until now. I guess it's a sw-bug? And I
am also wondering if this problem occurs whenever I pass a place
with low signal.. hmm, it's so annoying..
Thanks for any help!
Fred
I've been having problems similar to the OP for 2-3 weeks now (found this thread in a search before posting). It's damned annoying, as it means you can't really trust your phone - am I meant to reset every morning, or more frequently? It seems an intermittent problem, in so far as I've been receiving and making calls as normal, and then you someone asks 'did you get my text?'. Gritting teeth, you call the phone from a landline to find that calls are going straight to voicemail. After a soft reset all missing texts are received immediately, and calls can again be received.
When in this state other PDA functions seem to work as normal. However, I suspect that the power display is "suspended" too. On performing a soft reset after experiencing this problem today, I immediately got "your battery is extremely low", whereas before the reset I recall it was around 50% (vBar image). As others have stated, one clue that not all is well is that sent texts do not get a "Message sent" confirmation.
I've been racking my brains as to what's changed recently on my PDA. For family reasons I've been making a lot more calls than usual, but I also added TomTom Navigator 5 a couple of months ago, and so have started intermittently using BT. But I don't use Sat Nav that frequently, and this problem seems more prevalent.
I'm conscious that I don't have latest and greatest ROM, etc, but am vary about attempting upgrades without strong reasons.
Has anyone seen and solved this issue?
Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the sim card? After a while dust and general wear and tear can mess them up. Also as it's obviously(?) a phone problem it might be beneficial to call your service provider for a new sim card.
That's what I had to do last week. Wish you the best anyway.
It can't have anything to with the sim card as I'm having this problem with a brand new sim card.

sms with delay

Hi there, due to the fact that the search option doesn't work with less then 4 characters, i can't search for "sms".
But here's my real problem:
I've flashed different roms into my mda vario, after unlocking it. First the Molski.biz rom, then the last original t-mobile rom, but it was toooo slow, i've imediatly deleted it, en flashed the mr clean rom.
But in all roms i have some delay in recieving sms-messages.
Half the time they appear directly after they were sent by my friends, but sometimes i get them after a few hours. for example: it was sent at 15:00, and i received it at 17:30.
And sometimes i don't get any sms-messages, and after an soft-reset, i get 10 at one time, all delayed.
does anyone know what to do about it? or what causes it?
Regards,
Twan
i sometimes get this too though not often its usually when my phone loses signal and when it comes back into signal it wont recevie txt messages until i soft reset or send another txt out then ill get like 4 all at once lol.
Wizard isnt the best phone for txtin i must say as i send a good 1,000 txts a month and so far its poor.
Sounds like a network issue to me...
The network isn't registering the phone or something similar. For SMS the towers "push" the messages to the phone. Queuing them when they don't detect the phone on the network. If the phone is on the network and not getting the messages until it is reset and forced to re-acquire its signal than it is a network problem.
I've seen this problem on a few networks regardless of phone make and model.
I would agree with the above, its a provider issue not a phone issue.
I have a debate with Orange about 10 years ago about not getting text messeges when I loose and then regain service. I was told that when a text is sent to a phone that is off or lost a signal the message is stored until a set time has passed and then delivery is retried, thus getting all the messages at once. The way 'around' this is the disconnect the phone from the network and re-connect. This forces a scan of the message queues and again you will get all messages in one go.
I would assume going in to Flight Mode and back will do the same thing as a soft boot, but I have not tested this.
Okay,
so i could suggest it's not quitte an rom- or wizzard-issue, but a network-issue.
I also think going to flightmode and back will solve the problem. So we will hear from you if that's a solution?
I'm busy reflashing a new rom into my wizzard.

I would hope that as you seeing the problem that you could test this. I get all my texts on time (luckely) so I can't help you I am afraid, I can just share my thoughts.
Let us know how you get on.

I've tried, but now there's nobody who has sent me an sms
ghehe, i'll wait....
but i do think it will work.
i'll keep you posted
This is happening to me all of a sudden and its not a network issue. I have 4 phones on my account and i texted between all of them and only my phone won't get the messages UNLESS I reboot my phone or use smartskey to close a window.
Here is the strange part, when a text message is sent to my phone, the screen turns on, but doesn't show the message pop.
Is smartskey blocking it?
Also, closing a window by clicking on the X also kicks the message to come through

Sometimes can't dial, constant 'call ended' error

Does anyone have this issue? Sometimes for no apparent reason when I try to call someone, either immediately or after a short lag the dial attempt cancels with a call ended message, then after some time or if I keep trying it'll eventually work.
Had this issue on a previous handset so not specific to the N1, and I think I even had it on windows mobile so don't think it's an android thing, possibly the only common link is HTC. Or maybe it's a network issue. Had a few bars of signal, tried restarting the phone, different number etc
I have the same problem. Sometimes I am able to make calls but once this problem appears the only way to correct it is to reboot the phone and run Android again. I'm using the Froyo 30/08/2010 build on Rhodium.
It's a reception issue.
I sometimes have that areas with low reception (e.g. downtown with skyscrapers):
first I have no reception on the n1, then I get reception back, often 4 bars supposedly but for the next 2-5 minutes it will not make a call (drops immediately) or connect to the internet.
(other phones on the same network have no such issues, never even loosing reception in the first place, but that must be part of the conspiracy to bad-mouth the n1, since the jesus phone has no reception problems)
Have cleaned this thread. Please do not breach the rules again. If you don't have anything on topic and constructive to say then please don't post.
Appreciate your cooperation.

Just happened to me again.

In my case after 10-20 mins i will get a miss call. Looks so weird.
If somebody tried to call me most of the time they will get messages like i am not reachable. After 2-3 minutes i will get a miss call alert. And sometimes after 10-20 mins i will get a miss call.
My phone is Nexus 4, 4.4.2

[Q] Nexus 4 repeated signal loss and calls not coming through

I've got some serious issues with my Nexus 4, I've found posts with similar problems but not exactly what I have. I'm at a loss what to do next so any advice would be much appreciated.
I bought a N4 around March this year, direct from Google, and connected it to TPG Mobile here in Australia which uses the Optus network.
It was fine until about the end of May or beginning of June where it started losing signal regularly. First thing I noticed is it would start dropping calls and displaying "No network available", the triangular status bar at the top would go blank (completely black, not grey) for about 30 seconds, then it would return to normal signal and I could make calls again. However it would do this every few minutes, whether I was on a call or not, and each time it would last roughly 30 seconds and then return to normal.
Around the same time I started to receive SMS on either a delay, or they'd arrive on-time, but then keep sending multiple times for about the next hour.
I rang Google, they got me to go through recovery mode, then it worked fine, for about 24 hours, before it started again. They sent me a new device, which did the same thing within hours of activation, so I requested a 3rd device. At the same time I thought it might be the sim card, so I got a new one of those too.
My 3rd device and new sim card worked perfectly for about 3 days then the same problem started. Factory resets etc seem to fix the problem for either minutes or hours, but never permanently.
Then last week I noticed further weird symptoms, I started getting the usual sms to say someone had called and left a voicemail, however my phone never showed any sign of a call (visual, audio or missed call in the call log). I confirmed with several people who tried calling me and they confirmed the phone rang on their end before going to VM. I tried it myself from a landline and it randomly rings or doesn't ring on my end, however I also noticed when I hung up on the landline without answering my Nexus 4, it continued to ring indefinitely, ie. it hadn't registered the caller hung up.
My provider assures me there isn't an issue in my area, my wife uses the same provider (with an iphone) and has not had these issues. I can't swap sim cards with her though as she has a full-size sim. I tried another sim with my phone for a few hours and it worked fine, however my phone with my sim will sometimes go a whole day without issues so it wasn't long enough to truly test it.
I've deleted all apps that might somehow affect it and the hasn't helped either.
Basically I'd like to know is this likely to be a phone issue, and I pursue the issue with Google, or some sort of network/sim issue and I pursue it with my provider?
