4.0.2.A.0.58 - Xperia Arc General

New build certified on 27 October 2011 for LT15i.
http://www.ptcrb.com/vendor/complete/view_complete_request_guest.cfm?modelid=18648
Any guesses as to when it will be pushed out via OTA or SEUS?

Hopefully it comes with different radio that fixes the existing cell coverage issue! It's getting worse and worse day by day.

I still see no update from my rooted *.283 (up from *.181 world generic) to *.42, not to mention to *.58

@aero125,
Why don't you just flash the .ftf and get the latest update? Moreover, we now have the ZergRush method for rooting.

Weird, my Singapore Generic version of .283 asked me to update via SEUS to .42 when I checked using my phone. What version are you using?

Please wait, I think SE Arc new firmware will have something new.

Singapore didn't have .283 version after all. We jumped from .145 to .42 directly .

Oops, I should have said .145

I finally got an update message for OTA to *.42 yesterday night (9Nov). I downloaded the firmware and followed the whole installation process but failed repeatedly to install the update for some strange unknown reasons on my rooted *.283 (World Generic). I tried disabling 3rd party password delay and QQ phone mgr apk but still no luck.
Given up, I finally proceeded to backup all data and flashed the *.42 ftf plus re-rooting using flashtool 0.4.2. This was a more troublesome process as some settings and apks gotten haywire after restoring from titanium backup. But i got my *.42
I'm still wondering why can't the rooted *.283 OTA to *.42 directly. Anyone kind enough to advise if i have missed anything during the OTA process ?

If youve modded anything or changed anything then the OTA update will fail. I had a modded dock and had the panorama beta installed and mine failed. Even after restoring the original Home.apk and removing panorama (oh, and appwidgetpicker) it still wouldnt work (guess i must have missed something).
You should still be able to update via SEUS (though it will probably want to repair the phone first). When i did this i was expecting everything to be wiped but surprisingly it left all my apps installed.

Updating via SEUS will leave all your apps and data intact, unless it wants to repair your phone in which case everything will be erased.

Thank u all for the advise, but i'm still kind of confused.
I only rooted the Arc, the bootloader was still locked, and i have made no changes to the *.283 framework-res.apk and sytemUI.apk, meaning both these files were original stocks. So I'm not sure what restoring these 2 files exactly means
I was using Go launcher Ex instead of the SE stock launcher, so has it got anything to do with the *.283 framework-res.apk and sytemUI.apk being changed unknowingly to me ?
I hope to clarify this OTA issue otherwise i would have to go thru the more tedious process again to update the *.42 later on.

Is SEUS the same as OTA ? I did the failed *.283 to *.42 update from the "phone setting-about phone-software update" , which i took it as OTA (over the air) and which will retain the root. I updated in the past once via the PC companion but lost the root.

for you guys worried with .42 root access loss, .42 can be easily rooted back anyways with the new flashtool so even if OTA from .283 fails, just use SEUS or even flash a .42 FTF directly, then root.

Got it, Thk u.
I was still using the earlier 0.3 flashtool method which requires going back to *.181/184 to gain root before OTA up again to update. Yes, I just found that the 0.4 flashtool can install root directly. Development from XDA is really fast. Stupid Me

Hi ,
I have the HK 4.0.A.2.368 (rooted) , I have checked today and I got the message that there is an update: 4.0.2.A.0.42 , but cannot update OTA and wants me to use PC Companion.
I understand that in this case I will lose root. How can I root the .42 ? Do you have a link for the new flashtool ?
Thanks

I heard this elsewhere in this forum.
Can anybody confirm?
It seems a bit strange though. Apperantly /system is not completely wiped and replaced with new firmware files. Question is: Is that a bad or good thing??
Cheers
Yes, confirmed. You keep root after OTA from .42 to .62
I used the Central Europe-firmware .42 from Wontan + root and then OTA to .62
But it will not work for LT15I, I tried it and now my SD-card is ****ed up (mnt/partition).
Sorry for bad language...
If that is confirmed, then how about CWM? Can u still use CWM in .62?

[HOW TO] Update to 257 and preserve root

O.K guys...
This is quite simple
Download generic 534 (I used for central Europe)
DOWNLOAD FTF
Flash it via Flashtool and root with Kingo or root this way :
tnx @schickel
This method works great. If you don't trust these tools(Kingo root), use Root MANY ANDROID from Bin4ry. I've used this tool without any problems on the downgraded firmware.

Then boot ROM (you will need to restart your device two times to root proper) and you'll get OTA warning you have 257 firmware ready for update.
Download update and let the device flash the update.
And that's it
Now you have newest firmware and you root is here as well...
See ya

That's the point of this thread.
You'll get OTA if you use generic or world FTF.
That's why I said - first flash central Europe (for EU countries) and you'll get OTA info about 257 firmware.
I couldn't update by OTA too, then I did all this and now I can use OTA.
I was receiving OTA info but couldn't update - so I know not everyone can update that way.

Yes I agree with you. But some will want to stay with region specific or branded firmware. There are other methods for them, this is good for those people who will want to flash to central Europe first.

EDIT: ROOT IS STILL HERE! WOOHOO!!!
OTA on phone preserves root, no matter which .534 firmware u have.
If u update from phone it preserves root
Make sure to switch to SuperSU app before u update, from any other superuser, works best

I didn't force it. I was running the .534 DK firmware and the update notification has always been there through the sony software update app. I chose the DK firmware over the hong kong firmware because I didin't like the NFC logo always on there and I'd rather my phone say 4G instead of LTE.
You may have to wait for the OTA! Not sure if there is a way to force it on the phone unless someone gets the update.zip after they download it and you flash it in stock recovery? not sure as I've never entered stock recovery yet. my BL still locked.
Damn it I want a nexus 5... but I'm afraid I'll get drunk or something and accidentally wash it like i do the Z1 all the time

[DEV][Thinktank]Root 23.0.1.A.0.167 FW on Sony Xperia™ Z2? (Android 4.4.4)

Today, the long-awaited update Android 4.4.4 for Sony Xperia™ Z2 is released.
Rejoice!
But, installing this update will overrun the root access. Root access will be gone. So, how to root 23.0.1.A.0.167 FW on Sony Xperia™ Z2?
I'm gonna try the same old "Easy Root Tool" and see what happens. Any ideas would be good!
-EDIT-
Do you want to update your Sony Xperia™ Z2 to 4.4.4 but don't want to lose root? Don't worry, you won't! Click "here"
Credits to @niaboc79
Also, thanks to @funky0308 and @Envious_Data for their work
-EDIT 2-
I got root on 4.4.4 on my own, using this guide, credits @norti
@niaboc79 's pre-rooted ROM was based on Generic RU and the NC feature wasn't working on it. So I wanted to download a brand new FTF with my customization number and followed the steps on the guide.
ZBAM!
Got my own .167 (4.4.4) ROM (Generic DE) with root on my Sony Xperia™ Z2.
we will find a way...
but you should definitely put question mark in title...
we are lucky to have older fw (I'm talking for LB, z3 can't be downgrade and they will have problems to root 4.4.4. I believe we could use older fw to root fw and to upgrade keeping root...
I'll upgrade later today and will try few things...

I doubt...
Sony patched all those security holes and all those methods should be updated.
Of course, someone should try...
Can anyone confirm he upgraded D6503 to 4.4.4?
Wouldn't downloading the update through PC companion and making an ftf/downloading an ftf and then pre-rooting the firmware work? We have recovery for the phone so a pre-rooted flashable firmware should work without working exploits right?

1) Root .314 firmware.
2) Install locked bootloader recovery.

Is it for the D6502 or D6503? If I was able to update my D6503 to 4.4.4 I would have done it but I have been plagued with the same problem as all the other D6503 owners. I'm just going to wait for a UK unbranded pre-rooted firmware (or a UK unbranded ftf, whatever comes first).

What is the firmware number you are on?
I'm on 8.0.0.142, i do see 143-146 in firmware finder for my phone.
But I can't seem to update, both dns or proxy method are failing.
Does anyone know the prerequisites to update? I'm running on stock recovery, stock rom, unlocked bootloader, root by Magisk.
I am on 131 as had issues with the phone in softbrick/bootloop and eventually got it going again with this version
I find it VERY hard to work out what version to use or not
I am afraid to mess too much as it is not as simple as the G7 I had, flash custom rom or forced back to stock with 3 buttons
I see updates in firmware finder but check if for phone and if not I wait, better to have working phone than try and force latest update
I know this thread is old, but someone can install the "gpu turbo" update ? I only have the security patch of august. If someone know any thing pls tell me
I use hurupdater and i have september firmware..
I tried to force update with hurupdater and ended up with no update option in menu and some missing apps, so again I would not recommend it
Erecovery is great if anything goes wrong, soon after I done it I got an update to 134, Aug patches so a month behind

So you force update and don't lose apps or update option in menu?
