Is The Galaxy Note The Best Phone Ever? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

In spite of a few gripes (let's face it, no phone can suit everyone) the Galaxy Note must be the best phone ever made. It has no major issues and is small enough to be used as a phone and big enough to be used as a Tablet. It is also at the forefront technically and will soon be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich.

No. Its just bigger and it has a pen.
And it will not soon be updated to ICS.
But it is the phone I like most, and I have had a few.

You seem very hung up on this point and are using a lack of official statement to conclude that no update will be forthcoming. Has any manufacturer put a time table on updates. HTC announced a few phones today that will be upgraded to ICS, but put no timetable on the process.
I'm willing to be patient and see. At worst, CM9 should be available, and if someone can extract the s-pen apks then that might be good enough.

I think its the fastest/highest resolution phone available at the moment?
Certainly it has the largest screen, but that does not automatically grant it the "best" title. Some would even consider the size a negative.
Its lack of NFC and a notification LED are among its draw backs. The s-pen is awesome and the fact that its optional makes it only a positive.
In the end it all comes down to preference. That said, it would certainly get my vote for best phone ever.

I am "hung up" on people believing things "for sure, soon, confirmed, etc", while there is no official statement, just rumors spread by traffic hungry bloggers.
ICS would be nice, but don't count on it.

Because I get my cell service through work. If I switch it means I pay for it. I would pay for the phone if it was compatible with T-Mobile. I could really use a new phone too, so I'm hoping someone else comes out with a similar type phone.

Apparently this message was too short until I added this line

It's too big for me and is sadly going back.
Don't get me wrong, the screen is lush and ideal for lots of things but I'm struggling with any keyboard I've tried. Think my hands are too small! Also scared it's going to slip out of my hands.

While I am not siding with them - they really aren't the same devices. If they were we could easily port vibrant and captivate roms. There is clearly work that has to go into each variant of the SGS line. It would probably make the LEAST amount of sense for the Epic to not get 2.3 officially. Primarily because of its 4g Radio and Front Cam - features that the others lack- even though our device is probably the most complicated to get working right.

In my opinion this is a conflicting report with what that one leak tweeter/w/e he was said. Samsung didn't say no, they basically said "Um, well, uh maybe?" so it has, at least in mind, just as little credibility as some guy saying we were getting it. Just have to wait and see.

Yes, yes, for profit. We all get that they're in the business of selling phones, not giving free updates. That's why I read an interesting blog about paying for OS updates a little while back. I'd gladly pay a few bucks to get honeycomb or ice cream on a 6 month to year old phone and to have them out in a timely fashion. Then Samsung and all the other manufacturers would have an incentive to actually put out updates for phones as well.

No dual-core processor needed for Honeycomb

Lets kill this rumor now, shall we? Right from the horse's mouth.
Random note: there's no hard minimum processor requirement for Honeycomb. Trust me, if there were I'd know.

Seeing as Honeycomb is for tablets only and not for phones, what're the chances well actually see it? IMHO I see this as more of a phone than a tablet, mainly because it does the exact same as my phone does. And in all the videos/screenshots of Honeycomb, I dont think I've actually seen a status bar. Hopefully we wont miss out though.

Of course you see it as a phone because it is using a phone os. If it is upgraded to honeycomb then it will seem more like atablet because it will be using a tablet os.

I don't see that it should cause any problems. We'll just have both the virtual buttons and the capacitive buttons so we'll have our choice.

Um, it's called the "Galaxy Tab", pretty sure Samsung perceive it as a tablet, and the fact that it's a 7" "phone" relegates it to Tablet status at any rate.

Does it say on the box or on their website "upgrades to Gingerbread and Honeycomb to come soon!"? No? Then stop whining.
Also, good luck trying to sue a Korean company from Italy because they didn't perform to your expectations regardless of the fact they've promised nothing and the device works perfectly well as it stands and performs as advertised.

[Q] So the Nexus S 4G comes out May 8th

How will this help us epic users on may 8th?
The answer is still: We will have to wait and see how the source code from the Nexus is useful, which depends on which hardware elements it shares with our Epics.
Uh, well is someone going to supply an epic dev with what they need?

I don't see why you need to be insulting people who want to get a Nexus S 4G. It seems like a good phone for someone who wants to have the latest android releases immediately available to them. My wife is probably getting the Nexus S 4G as an upgrade from her HTC Hero. The main reason is that she loves CM7 on her Hero and I can't guarantee her CM7 (or future CM releases) on any other phone for sprint. You calling her stupid or in your words "nobody smart" is pretty ridiculous on multiple levels, but mostly because her reasons for getting the Nexus are sound.

The Nexus S 4G isn't really a step forward like the GSII or the EVO 3D will be. It would also be hard to leave the SAMOLED screen for Super LCD/TFT. Decisions...Decisions...

Rumors that Verizon might be getting an Epic look alike might be true

Came up on this article that shows a phone closely resembling our Epics. Most rumors that pointed to Big Red getting this look alike were fake at first...but now, that may not be the case anymore...the specs on the phone still havent been announced so its too soon to tell whether both phones will be closely identical hardware wise, and/or just design wise...

Assuming the phones hardware specs are close enough to ours, we should be able to use most of its source. Considering that dual core phones are kind of the "standard" atm tho, I doubt this phone will compared closely to ours. Wasn't the last rumor that AT&T was getting a qwerty keyboard SGSII? Guess that didn't come true

Yeah, the pic looked fake too. The pulldown toggles had a auto rotate setting, even though it had a keyboard.

I knew the BGR one was going to be fake. I called it right away. It looked fake. I mean yellow keys??? AT&T wouldn't be caught dead with a yellow phone. This looks extremely fake too. Doesn't that keyboard on that phone remind you of something?
(Also a big heads up to everyone, pocketnow's phones of devices are 99% rendered images that someone made. They are very very rarely real images. I bet this again is a render.)

totes.
it seems that Google screwed the android community over with this phone the way Apple screws over its fanboys with their "S" iterations of phones rather than a next big update.

How did they screw over people? It's a flagship phone that will always get updates.

Because the Atrix is the greatest phone ever, and if you disagree, you're a troll.
/sarcasm.
GNexus has the 2nd most powerful Android SoC, and only due to LTE compatability issues, yet people are screaming their head off about how "underpowered" the GNexus is. The Atrix won't see ICS officially until July, if ever. 4.0.3 is the official base version of ICS, and Motorola stated that they were waiting for a release to "enable device manufacturers to ship commercial product with ICS." Direct quote from MotoMobility, ie they haven't started on any ICS based ports. Throw that on top of their 2-3 month development cycle and the 3-4 month carrier testing cycle all USA carriers require of their devices and you have a ~6 month delay for major OS updates.
Galaxy is by no means underpowered.... what are people expecting? Quad core 2ghz? Geez.
There are so many Android phones out there, that they have to roll out updates slowly. Thats why i feel alot of people dont like Android. They use a 25 dollar Android phone they got at Walmart and they hated it and now they think all Androids are slow and have crappy resolutions with un responsive touch screens. One of the many reasons I like Apple. 1 phone they have to develop for (well, 3 but generally the same). And will always get updates.
Android screwed themselves over by releasing 18 Android phones under each carrier and people expect updates for every phone when every phone is different.
Atrix 4g should get the update as far as I'm concerned, but I wont throw hissy fits if it doesn't.
People gotta step back and realize its just a phone.

Either way we'll see an ics port from our devs eventually. Just will take some time.

No offense, but why is this here?
This is a "GSM board", and IMO this will probably confuse more people than benefit... (unless they "really" want to join Verizon)

Totaly agree with you, I have so many friends that use crappy android phones and keep complaining that android sucks and are always like iPhone is the best bla bla i wish i had an iPhone. There is already so many android phones out there that iPhone doesn't even come close too! But what can you do, people want to play Call of duty Modern warefare 3 on their phones already! and have phones that are transparent and have gazzilion gb's of ram and bazzilion ghz thousand core proccesors and 100" screen that fold and are 10008000p resolution.

Why not? I did & it's the best thing I ever did. What a mistake the Atrix was, well for UK anywhere.
Nexus all the way, I'm afraid.
Its just a great deal on a new phone. It does bring up a link to buy it for $189 right? Or no
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Me is sad that it is on Verizon...
Oh well, i'll stick to my atrix 4G.
Yeah me too. Soon as I have the cash though I'm picking it up and switching to Verizon. Lol. For 189 dollars brand new? You have any idea how much these suckers retail for?
