Rumors that Verizon might be getting an Epic look alike might be true - Epic 4G General

Came up on this article that shows a phone closely resembling our Epics. Most rumors that pointed to Big Red getting this look alike were fake at first...but now, that may not be the case anymore...the specs on the phone still havent been announced so its too soon to tell whether both phones will be closely identical hardware wise, and/or just design wise...

I cannot stand the smileyface on the Verizon's AOSP messenger app.
However, This is kind of cool. This is EXACTLY what my cousin needs lol.

Bummer = Big Red is getting the next cool slider I was hoping for .... guess I'll have to settle for a non-slider

I don't understand why verizon likes the look of the touchwiz they have samsung put on their phones. Its always different than most(Droid Charge being the most different). At least sense looks the same, as long as its the same version of sense. TW has a variety of looks, and they're all labled TW 3.0

I just want the battery for this thing if it's higher capacity (rumored to be 1650mah) as in theory it should fit all Galaxy S 1 phones. I don't like 3rd party batteries and refuse to buy them.

Assuming the phones hardware specs are close enough to ours, we should be able to use most of its source. Considering that dual core phones are kind of the "standard" atm tho, I doubt this phone will compared closely to ours. But hey, that's just my guess, we won't know until its specs are finally announced

I knew the BGR one was going to be fake. I called it right away. It looked fake. I mean yellow keys??? AT&T wouldn't be caught dead with a yellow phone. This looks extremely fake too. Doesn't that keyboard on that phone remind you of something?
(Also a big heads up to everyone, pocketnow's phones of devices are 99% rendered images that someone made. They are very very rarely real images. I bet this again is a render.)

While I am not siding with them - they really aren't the same devices. If they were we could easily port vibrant and captivate roms. There is clearly work that has to go into each variant of the SGS line. It would probably make the LEAST amount of sense for the Epic to not get 2.3 officially. Primarily because of its 4g Radio and Front Cam - features that the others lack- even though our device is probably the most complicated to get working right.

In my opinion this is a conflicting report with what that one leak tweeter/w/e he was said. Samsung didn't say no, they basically said "Um, well, uh maybe?" so it has, at least in mind, just as little credibility as some guy saying we were getting it. Just have to wait and see.

I have 2 people wanting to trade their Evo for my epic. Samsung doesn't support their products as well as HTC, and it sucks. For some reason, I think they would rather put out new phones with Gingerbread and make you buy the, than give you an upgrade.

Yes, yes, for profit. We all get that they're in the business of selling phones, not giving free updates. That's why I read an interesting blog about paying for OS updates a little while back. I'd gladly pay a few bucks to get honeycomb or ice cream on a 6 month to year old phone and to have them out in a timely fashion. Then Samsung and all the other manufacturers would have an incentive to actually put out updates for phones as well.

Fromg the google blog:
It features a 4” Contour Display designed to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand and along the side of your face. It also features a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, front and rear facing cameras, 16GB of internal memory, and NFC (near field communication) hardware that lets you read information from everyday objects that have NFC tags.
In addition, today we’re excited to announce that Sprint customers will soon be able to take advantage of the full set of Google Voice features without changing or porting their number.

Because its a Google supported phone / Google dev phone. All software comes 100% from Google directly. Samsung doesn't touch the software. It will get almost all future updates until the hardware cant handle the software. The Nexus One, which is pretty damn old now, just recently got official Gingerbread, and will likely get Ice Cream.
Yea but what he meant is...
Thanks to the hardware similarities we wont be far behind them in updates so why pay all that money for basically the same phone w/o a keyboard when all these Beastly phones are about to be released it would be a waste to get hardware that is outdated by the time its even for sale 8)
I personally hate physical keyboards now. Mine is just wasted, unused bulk.
True Google software is worth it for me. Dual core CPU's aren't even close to being utilized in smartphones yet anyway. Not until apps/software are written to support them.
The Hummingbird can still hold its own.

this is the general section. and the nexus & evo3d or any future phone that will dethrone the evo is worthy to talk about here. it's upgrade time for most of us and probably most of the devs including toast. nothing wrong with having a discussion.
Knowing Sprint, we will probably get a keyboard variation of that phone. Epic 2 or Epic __, maybe a new name entirely. EPIC 3D would be funny lol (1st Qwerty 3D phone )
It does seem impressive, Samsung seems to be cleaing up thier updating track record too. The only excuse I have of not buying it is the weaker XDA backing. Not to say there will be none but I prefer HTC + XDA.

The interesting part is the rumor that Eldar Murtazin spread this week in regards to the Apple-Samsung lawsuit, about a Samsung Galaxy S3 upgrade that is coming late fall, with 4.5" edge-to-edge Super AMOLED Plus display of high resolution, and no hardware keys. These same features Apple is said planning to introduce in the iPhone 6, which will appear many months after the SGS 3, which must have annoyed Cupertino to no end.

Essentially, Samsung developed features for the Galaxy S3 that Stevie boy wanted to release in the iPhone 6, so Apple is trying to slow/stop Samsung in court, so Apple can be the first one to release those features.
I'm sure Sprint will get a variant of this, its the successor to the Epic 4G. I just hope that this time it doesn't have a hardware keyboard. I think this phone would be the best choice for the next Nexus phone.

[Q] So the Nexus S 4G comes out May 8th

How will this help us epic users on may 8th?
The answer is still: We will have to wait and see how the source code from the Nexus is useful, which depends on which hardware elements it shares with our Epics.

I don't see why you need to be insulting people who want to get a Nexus S 4G. It seems like a good phone for someone who wants to have the latest android releases immediately available to them. My wife is probably getting the Nexus S 4G as an upgrade from her HTC Hero. The main reason is that she loves CM7 on her Hero and I can't guarantee her CM7 (or future CM releases) on any other phone for sprint. You calling her stupid or in your words "nobody smart" is pretty ridiculous on multiple levels, but mostly because her reasons for getting the Nexus are sound.

When I get a new phone....hopefully...soon, I'm not real sure what it will be. The Nexus just feels AWESOME in your hand but I'm used to the slide out keyboard. The GSII sounds awesome as well but we saw how the support was on the Samsung side plus TW makes development SO much more difficult.
The Nexus S 4G isn't really a step forward like the GSII or the EVO 3D will be. It would also be hard to leave the SAMOLED screen for Super LCD/TFT. Decisions...Decisions...
Been using a 3 years old Palm Pre and have been amazed at how it just works. The specs of the HP Pre 3 look to be pretty solid. I love how emails works correctly on the Pre. I hate the unreliability of email polling on Android in general.

I think he meant the Evo 3D. Hes torn between choosing the SAMOLED Nexus S or the SLCD Evo 3D (which in reality is a qHD screen).

Is The Galaxy Note The Best Phone Ever?

In spite of a few gripes (let's face it, no phone can suit everyone) the Galaxy Note must be the best phone ever made. It has no major issues and is small enough to be used as a phone and big enough to be used as a Tablet. It is also at the forefront technically and will soon be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich.
No. Its just bigger and it has a pen.
And it will not soon be updated to ICS.
But it is the phone I like most, and I have had a few.

You seem very hung up on this point and are using a lack of official statement to conclude that no update will be forthcoming. Has any manufacturer put a time table on updates. HTC announced a few phones today that will be upgraded to ICS, but put no timetable on the process.
I'm willing to be patient and see. At worst, CM9 should be available, and if someone can extract the s-pen apks then that might be good enough.
I think its the fastest/highest resolution phone available at the moment?
Certainly it has the largest screen, but that does not automatically grant it the "best" title. Some would even consider the size a negative.
Its lack of NFC and a notification LED are among its draw backs. The s-pen is awesome and the fact that its optional makes it only a positive.
In the end it all comes down to preference. That said, it would certainly get my vote for best phone ever.

I am "hung up" on people believing things "for sure, soon, confirmed, etc", while there is no official statement, just rumors spread by traffic hungry bloggers.
ICS would be nice, but don't count on it.

Almost every new phone that is released these days is the best ever.

No, because I can't use it on my network. I wish the manufacturers and carriers would cut of the bs already

Why can't you switch networks? That's what I'm going to do to get this phone. Gotta love competition.

Because I get my cell service through work. If I switch it means I pay for it. I would pay for the phone if it was compatible with T-Mobile. I could really use a new phone too, so I'm hoping someone else comes out with a similar type phone.

The best since the last one and until the next one.
Apparently this message was too short until I added this line
It's too big for me and is sadly going back.
Don't get me wrong, the screen is lush and ideal for lots of things but I'm struggling with any keyboard I've tried. Think my hands are too small! Also scared it's going to slip out of my hands.
