Elite Blade_Rom 2.3.5 (free discussions) - Blade General

The Elite Blade_Rom 2.3.5 seems to be an excellent version of the official 2.3.5.
According to the XDA rules, user discussions should be here under Blade General and not under Blade Android Development.
Thus, any user comments, please!
My experience is good. I re-partitioned ROM before installling, giving plenty of memory for apps.
ZTE Dialer and LauncherPro are included. The only thing I miss on Elite Blade is a circle battery mod. I got one from Huexxx that works fine. I don't know if that file is posted anywhere, but I can send copies of my file on request.

It's a Wifi fix for the Zte blades (Wifi) Chipset problem. It will refresh the connection
after a sleep wakeup.

Perfect
Hi elitemovil,
thanks for the new kernel.
Works great, stable and smooth. I installed the two patches, store all 3 files on the SD card before doing the ROM flash. Bat drain very low on 2G but high in 3G.
Great ROM!!

Stuck @ green droid
I'm getting stuck at the green droid after trying to install EvilRom 2.3.5. I can't get past it, even if I try to flash the rom I knew that was working before.
1. Started from CM7.1
2. Installed the rom + kernel + fix (recovery)
3. Got stuck on the green droid
4. Installed CM7.1 rom again (recovery)
5. Still got stuck on the green droid.
6. Read the fine prints on the rom page
7. Partitioned SD to the instructions (recovery)
8. Transfered roms to new SD partion
9. Flashed rom + fix + kernel (recovery)
10. Still stuck at the green droid.
I saw people in the proper thread had the same issues, but what I really want to know is how to get past it.

I did the TPT upgrade recommended in the EliteRom thread. Worked like a charm to get my angry hulk droid away from my phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19211900&postcount=27
So far so good. I clearly notice how smooth EliteRom already when I'm selecting language in the start. If the developer read this, you should put the TPT upgrade in the installation procedure/text so everyone does it.

I also had to TPT Gen2 v9.
I have 2 problems with this rom.
1 - Lots of apps dont allow to move to sd (in CM7 it was possible), like "Whats App, Circle Launcher, Handcent, iGO8", etc
2 - When writing SMS, it goes very slow in the input. In the beguining of the text it goes fast, but after about 100 chars, it gets really slow. Not only with default app but also with handcent. One time i read it was because of char count... Maybe is swiftkey keyboard...

Move apps to SD SOLVED with:
ADB - ./adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2

data off after sleep
Hi everybody!
I have used Blade for a year. I used JJ, then Swedish Spring, then GSF. I don't like CM 7.1 because I absolutely want the ZTE Dialer, where Contacts has an extra tab for my groups.
Thus Elite Blade is an excellent choice.
Presently I have 2 Blades (one is extra spare).
On my regular Blade I use Elite Blade 1.1 and on my extra Blade I have installed Moldovan Mile-High-Mountain-Pie RLS6 as a reference. Every night I try to make statistics of battery consumption. My goal is to find a ROM and configuration with minimal battery drain. Every second night I switch batteries, so that the old battery and the new battery should not affect result. Sometimes I wipe battery stats from Recovery.
On both phones I try to make identical setup:
Partitioned ROM to 160 mb, 2g only, all data on, wifi on, widget news&weather sync every 6h, Facebook sync every 4h, JuiceDefender, LauncherPro, Gmail, Google+, Lookout, Titanium Backup.
On both phones I have noted nightly battery drops between 10 and 20% so I can't make any conclusions so far. Perhaps I should measure over longer time span, or use apps such as BetterBatteryStats.
But one thing is strange:
Both in the Elite Blade, and on the Moldovan Mile-High-Mountain-Pie Blade, sometimes mobile data is OFF (deactivated) after the nightly sleep, despite that I alway set it to ON.
I verify this by using the advanced power widget. When I pull it down from the main screen, sometimes the mobile data button is OFF (grey), resulting that the Data box in settings is unchecked. I don't think I touched (deactiveted) it by mistake. I touch the button again so that it is green. I expect mobile and background data to be always ON when I wake up the phone. Does anybody know what can cause this? Some strange app or some setting?
I now remove all un-needed junk that uses data, such as Facebook and widgets, then continue testing.
Edit 12.11:
I removed news and weather widget, facebook, Juice Defender, Lookout, Google+ on both test phones. During this nightly test, both phones used 10-11% battery durung 10 hours, with all data and wifi on. Data was not disabled. Thus my trouble may have been caused by e.g. JuiceDefender

Don't know. Probably no difference since they are based on same code. You should overclock to about 700 mhz for games.

I've just installed the S2 version with the updated kernel from 17/11/2011 ... and everything seems to working fine.
I've just reinstalled all my apps and settings with TB and all went well.
Very fast and smooth rom.
I'll looking forward to see if battery drain is ok ... It's obvious I can't tell now (just installed).
I have very bad connection with about all roms on my work , so will try this rom.
If it'(s the same , I'll keep it for sure ,and will look for an other carrier.
Thanks you elitemovil for this rom.

Hi 2 all!
I use the s1.1 rom on my ZTE Libra.
I would like to thank Elitemovil for this GREAT ROM! This is the best rom I've ever had! It's a leader in battery life - i can use my Libra without recharge for about 2-3 days! Earlier i tried CM7(1 day) and GSF(1,5 day).
Only one a little question i have:
can i change the buttons in power-widget on status line? I don't need the wi-fi, bt, gps buttons. I need 3G-2G, Sync, Sound buttons instead of them.

Kuoi, I'm eagerly awaiting your feedback of the S2.
Two questions:
a) How does the battery life, speed and memory consumption of this ROM compare to the previous (Froyo stock) ROMs?
b) Are there a any bugs/problems/todo/open issues for this ROM?
I would like your opinion before I flash this ROM.
Please and thank you in advance.

1 : I can't tell for now , I'll now charge full and will calibrate then . Overnight was -0% , so the overnight drain is proven to be good ;-)
2 : Didn't found any bugs or fc or anything. I even have connection with my carrier ;-)
Hope this helps a bit , Kuoi

By accident I found this discussion thread in the Blade General subforum.
I'm just wondering if it couldn't be useful to post experiences about this ROM in only ONE thread. And as there is an original thread, why not there?
Correct me if I'm wrong...

Thanks, Kuoi.
Keep us informed of your findings.
I have to keep the stock rom on my new blades for two days so that my carrier can unlock them.
Until then, give feedback, please.
EDIT: Could you please inform me if this ROM has Portuguese (Portugal) locale.

Is my phone broken/bad? Q scores <900

Is something wrong with my phone? My Quadrant scores are NO where NEAR where they should be. I just got a whopping 872 I avg 900-1000. I know it might not matter, and that those scores can be manipulated. But a few have suggested this might actually indicate that my phone is messed up and if so – I want to get another one from Sprint.
Basics – I am rooted, custom rom (myn’s), stock htc10 kernel. I don’t know what other information is need to get help with this. I have tried running Q scores as soon as I do a wipe cache/dalvik thinking maybe it’s just slow after that stuff clogs it up. Same result. I have tried moving as much stuff off my sd card and now leave about 1.5 available ( I’ve slimmed my music down as much as I’m willing to do . I’ve tried running the Q score with the kernel set to performance, etc. I saw 1250-1350 one time, but I was using a kernel that was so unstable on my phone I had to ditch it pretty fast (multiple reboots, severe lag, etc).
I also wonder if there is something wrong with my phone because it does not seem to be able to handle anything other than the stock kernel very well. The phone completely spazzzes out with almost every kernel I have tried except for two. I am happy with the stock and have no complaints about battery life. I use the phone when I want and how I want and easily go 24hrs without having to charge. But the fact that only stock and 2 other kernels (king’11 and netarchys) are stable makes me wonder….
If anyone has any suggestions, opinion, thoughts, etc I would appreciate. I have searched and not seen this specific issue addressed.
If this helps, when I check my Running Services, this is what I see and this list varies very little.
Blik Calendar Widget
Y5 Battery Saver
More Icons Widget
AndLock
Handscent SMS
Antivirus
Calendar
Com.smithmicro.dm (have no idea what this is)
New and Weather (I have use the glass clock)
Google Service Framework (cloud to device; messaging)
HTC DM (no idea)
HTC IQAgent (no idea)
Voicemail
Ultra Keyboard
Def sounds sluggy.
My recommendation would unfortunately be to start from scratch. Backup only needed apps that you may not be able to download from the market and completely wipe, flash a stock OTA root ROM, completely wipe again, and flash whatever ROM you like after that.
I know it sounds like a huge PITA, but it should definitely help out.
I had a similar situation once, and this did the trick.
Ugh. Ok. I can try that. I did a full wipe/factory reset less than 2 weeks ago. I use Titanium so getting it all back up is not bad. I also sync to AppBrain so at least if I start with a clean slate I would know what Apps I did have.
Thanks for the help and suggestion.
to eliminate as many variables as possible, i'd do a nand backup, install your ROM of choice with no additional apps except the ones you use to benchmark and perform your tests. give it an hour or so after you flash to let the phone settle down (sync, etc.). you may have apps may be hogging resources or be running in the background (i.e. y5, antivirus) which will effect your tests. report back.
I will try that way first
Yes - antivirus and Y5 are always running in the background. Always.
ha - maybe I'll freeze most of the apps I listed as Running Services, wipe cache/dalvik, reboot and THEN see what I get. But I'm not ever going to realically run my phone without Y5, Handscent, UltraKeyboard, antivirus, etc. I could probably get rid of the More Icons widget now that I have Apps Organizer, but I really really like having one, 1/3 page widget with 8 icones that have ALL my apps organized.
Does your phone seem slow? That is what I would base the speed of my phone on not some q-score. What if you never ran the test would you be concerned.?.?
I would try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836728 after your nand backup. That has the latest ota, kernel and you would not loose root.
I'll have time on Sunday to try some of the suggestions. Thanks again for the help, I really do appreciate it. I was with a friend this evening, his Evo is rooted and running Myn's rls3 just like mine. He scored around 1300.
And no - my phone doesn't seem slow to me at all. But I've also not used another to know how it might "feel" if there is a difference. I more curious than anything - I tend to research things to death just so I'll know. And I find it curious that my phone is both low on Q scores and can't handle many kernels without it spazzing out.

*** Galaxy Tab Master Tweak Thread***

Hi everyone.
Id like to start a thread where we collect, post and discuss all known individual tweaks and changes that can be made to the Galaxy Tab in order to gain performance and stability.
My experience with the Galaxy Tab has been similar to my latest phone, an HTC HD2. When I got the HD2 about one year ago, I positively hated it... slow, unstable, all sorts of problems, lags, crashes... its the way most of the hardware today is released. One year later, my HD2 has become the most amazing machine I've ever owned. From pushing it 1.6GHz stable, to tweaking registry, XML files, services and making everything work well. I remember not being able to watch smooth video on the HD2 to being able to watch flawlessly 720p content and going from the extreme of detesting the phone to loving it.
It was with the HD2 I discovered Android and fell in love with it. Since I have now two HD2s I have one with an SD ROM version of Gingerbread (that I can dual boot still from Windows Mobile) and a Froyo NAND. I run Android on the HD2 much much much faster and smoother than on the Galaxy Tab, that I also hated when I bought it a few weeks and that am starting to like after getting to know it, a new ROM, apps, etc. Even at 1GHz stock the HD2 with Froyo is vastly faster, smoother, more responsive and better to use. The approach d like to do as far as tweaking the Galaxy Tab is the same as I did for the HD2 with Windows Mobile, that is, install the best/fastest ROM I can, delete and remove all stuff I don't need and then tweak what's left.
The tweaks I've done so far on the Galaxy are simple but have made a huge difference. Id like with this thread to be able to collect individual tweaks and post them all here to share with everyone.
Im using Roto JMI Pre-Rooted Firmware v2 which was the main step after getting rid of the stock Samsung Rom that is nothing but a collection of problems.
The first thing I learned with this Tab is that WHATEVER IS ON YOUR HOME SCREENS THAT MOVES, IS BAD! Forget about having ANY type of apps or widgets that do any type of refresh, including stuff running on the upper task bar if they change icons or the move around… that mean a CPU cycle and refresh each time and there goes the tab's performance and battery life. The same goes for any type of Live Wallpaper. Beautiful but deadly. Never touch them!
- So, after a new ROM, the first thing I did was changing the file system to EXT4. This is the SINGLE BEST THING you can do to radically improve the performance of the Tab. Its extremely easy to do and the step-by-step instructions are as follow:
- Make sure you have an miniSD Card in with plenty of available space (it will be used automatically to backup your system during the conversion process)
- Get p1000-mck-r3-ext4-cwm.tar (the EXT4 Conversion Kernel)
- Connect the Tab in Downloading Mode to your PC via USB, start Odin3 1.7 and load the Kernel (click on the PDA button and select the p1000-mck-r3-ext4-cwm.tar and make sure PDA stays ticked after selecting the file).
- UNTICK Re-Partition check box and make sure the only boxes ticked are:
Auto Reboot
F. Reset Time
The PDA tickbox
- Click start and wait for PASS! (it will show highlighted green or Yellow on Odin)
- Now the Tab will restart and get stuck on the Samsung loading screen. This is normal. Turn it off by holding the power button for 5 seconds.
- Turn on the Tab again on into RECOVERY mode (Press Volume UP and Power On at the same time) and the EXT4 conversion will start automatically. The process will take up to one hour depending on how much stuff you have on your Tab. It took about 10 minutes on mine because I have a fresh install of Roto JMI v2.
- Once finished, click "Reboot System Now" (by pressing the power button).
- The reboot may take a while first time so be patient!
- Done!
- After that, the first tweak I did was to get rid of all my favorite widgets that moved around… net meter, news, weather and all these beautiful things KILL the Tab. Equally I had a CPU meter on the tray refreshing every 2 seconds and it took me a while to figure out that was the reason why every 2 seconds the system would stutter, whether watching a movie or browsing the web. So, out!
- Next was to install SetCPU under the ON DEMAND setting, minimum around 750MHz and maximum 1000MHz (unfortunately only with a custom Kernel you can go higher, currently up to 1.4GHz but not full stable and with lots of issues pending so I don’t recommend it)
- My following step was to get rid of the stock Samsung Homescreen (that is a resource hog and slow as hell) and replace it with a new one. I've tried them all and am making no recommendation here but the one that works for me and is by far the best IMO is LauncherPro. This single app makes using the Tab a whole better experience.
- Next was to disable the USELESS and (resource pig) Gallery and replace it with an app called QuickPic that is blazing fast (actually instant) and simply amazing to browse and view all media on the Tab.
- Next was to greatly improve the poor native GPS reception by replacing high performance files and drivers from the Orange Rom P1000JHKA1 that seems to work on all versions of the Tab, as originally posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922692
- With SystemApp Remover 4.12 I have disabled all system apps and services I don’t need (BE VERY CAREFUL AND DON'T REMOVE ROM APPS YOU WILL NEED). I have actually deleted some from ROM (Root access required of course), this includes useless stuff like STK Service starting every time, most of the Samsung stuff that I really don’t care for and just about all apps I know for sure I will never open a single time. Now, its important to understand if these apps are removed they will be removed PERMANENTLY from ROM so to get the back a hard reset will not be enough, you'll have to fully flash the ROM again. For most system apps I don’t use but am not sure, I use a different option and that is to simply disable them. In my case this includes all Bluetooth stuff (I never use it and even if it's off the Services are still running robbing performance and memory) and apps like the built-in Browser, Email and Messaging that suck and that I replaced with better apps. Its always a safer bet, at least initially to disable the apps you don’t need that uninstall them because at least you can go back and change your mind This is one area where Id like to learn more. There are many background services that I don’t know what they do and if they can be disabled or not. If someone knows what each one does and the safety of getting rid of them OR NOT, it would be great to post it here!
- Them, with Startup Auditor 2.3.2 I have disabled all unnecessary apps that start automatically every time the Tab boots so I don't have excess applications starting up that are not needed. Some I configured to be killed AGAIN if the system tries to restart them later after the boot-up
- Using Task Manager 1.0.7 and letting always run on background, I have configured all apps that I don’t need running to be auto-killed every time the phone goes to stand-by (screen off). This saves me lots of memory and CPU time on apps that I am actually not using.
- Finally, I monitor what is going on with an app called CPU Usage Timeliness Free 1.7.1.0 and use it to see EXACTLY which applications are using CPU cycles and interfering with performance. With it I have found that on my Tab I have an unsolved problem that is using over 100MB of memory and non-stop CPU usage between 15% and 45% of something called SECURITY STORAGE. I have no idea what it does. It can't be disabled and I don’t know where all the activity comes from. If someone know more about this and how to fix it, that will be great. Most of the performance issues I have on my Tab come from this Service that I don’t know how to tame. Surely, we can find a solution.
The system background services is one area where I'd like to know one by one, what each service does and if we need them or not, if it can be tweaked, disabled or deleted. Below is a complete list of the services I have safely disabled so far that have given me great performance boosts and with no negative issues on the system (IN BOLD), and OTHERS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT (not bold). Please note these are background services that start automatically. The changes made to the disabled apps/services is that they are reverted to ON-DEMAND so they all still work perfectly.

Originally with my Tab I was getting Quadrant below 600 on average. Now, its always over 1900. This is not a "little" improvement, this is amazing upgrading. But id like this to be a starting point to learn and share more ways with everyone we can all share on things we can do to make the Tab as good as it was intended to be for everyone
Cheers!

The first block of disabled items (in bold) from CALENDAR to WORLD CLOCK are disabled start-ups but the apps works as usual. It just frees resources not required on boot till you actually start the application when you want.
The second block from Bluetooth Services to Voice Search are all disabled as I use none of those. Items disabled can be restarted again at any time upon activating them follwing a reboot, while items deleted (like Samsung Apps and STK) are gone forever.
Ive never flashed a ModaCo Kernel and got lots of feedback regarding probelms with 1.4OC. Do you have any issues at all or none? We are using different ROMs... What Quadrant do you get currently?
Cheers
Thank you for your post.
You have solved many of my questions. Also I am User of HD2 and had the same impressions, but now with Android Nand everything was great, also started to love it.
As for GTAB'll make those adjustments you suggested, some will not disable because I use Bluetooth as an example.
Any news please keep posting.
Success!

So far the oc is good, things load a little faster, especially nfs shift. Last run of quadrant was 2300-2400.
Ill try it again later after these optimizations and see how it goes, a member here has gotten 3000.
Having done nothing but root, my tab gets about 1000 quadrant score. I have tried setcpu using on demand and it actuall has made my tab worse. I am very hesitant to flash anything on the tab. It seems very involved and complicated. I have an HD2 as well and have been flashing since Android was on SD. That process is simple. Everything I have read about flashing things to the tab doesn't look that way. I really havent had any issues with my tab as stock other than a bit laggy at times. I would like to hear more about all of this. The oppinions I have read are either do it or don't do it. There are more problem posts after attempting to flash than there are good ones where it worked. I really could care less about a quadrant score to be honest, but I would like to have a faster smoother running tab. I really dont care about making calls on it either. Thats why I have a phone. JMO. I think part of the issue in this thread is that there are Euro and USA version which are completely different and require different roms and such.
I have been reading and lurking in the tab development thread for a while now and am not impressed with any of it yet. Maybe someone could shed some light on things and change my mind.

I agree. The process of flashing the Galaxy is much more dauting than anything on the HD2. I suggest you do the EXT4 file converstion. All you need is follow the step by step I wrote above. It makes a huge difference. As for everything else, I too hold off to do too much flashing. The ROM I use now is great and lighter than stock but your seems to work well so keep it. For me when a ROM is good I just use it. When I bought the HD2 I flashed it 2 times with a custom ROM till i found one that worked for me and kept it for 8 months. But backing up and restoring WinMo is much easier... on Androind its all more complicated if you dont know what you are doing. Disable some start-ups on your unit, convert the file system to EXT4 and make sure you have nothing on your home screen doing a lot of refreshing and your tab will work great

Is everything working 100% on that ROM? I do not want any ROMS that are having problems.
I too am not impressed with anything that us out yet...seems like any ROM process is tedious and complicated.
Glad the thread starter modified his tab to his liking, but what's the point of having it if you need to drastically change everything. I have a rooted DInc and not use any of things......didn't really see a performance gain with set CPU.
I'm going to continue waiting for something more reliable and use my tab the way it was meant to be, with all its hardware and widgets.

Thank you for your detailed post. While I agree with you that the stock SGT rom and browser suck but where do you think the JMI, JMF, JMx ROMs coming from?
Most ROMs I've seen (except for CM) are based from some sort of Jxx
Please keep the tweak posts going. Good stuff and thanks!

Not impressed with all the problems being posted just tring to flash it, and how complex it is to do it. Guess that's what I meant. Flashing the hd2 is a very simple process. Tab is not

My boy,
Only getting my Galaxy tomorrow but looking through threads on my favorite forum.
And guess the first one I happen into... I will follow avidly.
Hi dubie76,
Try an app called OCLF 2.0 on the Market. It is a Lag fix app for the Samsung Galaxy S which also works on the Tab.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rc.QuickFixLagFixR2
You have to install EXT2 tools and then install one click lag fix, both are done within the app.
I had this on my Tab before flashed to a custom ROM. The tab was much faster and did not have and lag compared to stock, the Quadrant score was around 1900.
Also you can uninstall the modifications in the app and easily reverse back to stock. The only disadvantage is you will loss about 800mb of internal memory (the 2Gb space), so if you don't have much space left, you will need to uninstall some apps and reinstall them once you applied the lag fix.
P.S. thanks to OP for the SystemApp Remover & Startup Auditor suggestion.
Custom ROMs?
Hi everyone!
Consider this:
The locked GTab (in standby) on an original ROM with a connected to it BT headset wakes up after replying a call from BT and can potentially have anything pressed as being in the bag due to its size...
My point is that there is NO fix for this on XDA therefore why should I expect any significant advancements from a custom ROM if such simple things cannot be fixed on Android.
My personal view is that Android is unfortunatelly not as flexible for adjustments as WinMo (i have HD2 as well with a wonderful custom Artemis ROM).
I've tried two Roto ROMs on my GT and they havent provided any noticeable enhancements in performance to my eye (perhaps some rating went up - I dont care about tech stats). I reverted to stock ROM P1000XWJMI that works as fast for a "regular user".
I am sad to resume my experience with hacking the GT as not worth it: you get serious risk of getting the GT bricked (much more complicated than with WinMo), loose the warranty and are open for instability and sudden incompatibilities with crashes.
On the third custom ROM installation attempt I was stuck on a black screen after powering on (stuck on the bootloader!) and couldnt initiate flash for multiple times. I was shocked and very nervous. Thats when the stock ROM saved my ass and I am not willing the risk of playing around any more with non-firmware ROMs for Android GT.
Regarding the alternative screen lockers available - please do not suggest Screen Suite (the best of the worst) and things like No-Lock (to get rid of the original locker) as they all mess up once in a while (tested) with the default ROM settings and the original core locker.
PS
In my view the best thing we can and should do first of all is to COMPLAIN to SAMSUNG Tech Support and Software Developers (I did twice already).
If every one of us from theese GTab forums would do this they would definitely get faster with resolving issues.

[Q] Advice on my Nook's current softwares/settings

Looking for some advice as I am still pretty noob-ish. I apologize in advance if this thread is out-of-bounds in any way; every search for answers that I've conducted always seem to beat-around my questions. Any advice will be thanked ASAP, even if you can shoot me a url to the advice I need that would be awesome. If it appears that I'm on top of things that would be great to know as well. Thanks in advance!
I'm running CM7.1.0 Encore Signed emmc with Tiamat v4.1.0 kernel; using Ram Manager Pro for optimization in lieu of task killers, Nook Tweaks for CPU stepping and voltage management, "Antivirus Free" for virus protection, "Battery Calibration" to monitor/obtain max charge (~4200 mV), and "Set DNS" for faster web-based loading. I've also disabled Android Cell-Standby Services through ADB and removed useless apps such as camera and voice apps using Root Explorer. My biggest questions are as follows:
1. Am I running the best kernel for speed and battery saving?
2. What are good voltage settings for better battery conservation (currently on default voltage settings)?
3. Is there really a need for a virus protection, and if so is there something better than what I have?
4. Is there any settings that I should know about for "Set DNS" (didn't change settings, just installed and activated it)?
5. Are there any other technical ways to adjust battery consumption (have to charge every night under normal use)?
I keep telling myself that I'm probably good to go, but I want to be certain that I've been as thorough as I can be. If anyone does something differently with great results please feel free to advise! As I said before, any advice or even just urls that help with my questions will be thanked. Can't wait to discuss this more!

I'd like to know that as well......
I used Tiamat's latest Evo NON SBC Kernel ( http://tiamat-dev.com/tiamat_evo/ ). After downloading I installed the zip through Clockwork (after wiping both caches) in boot-recovery and I'm guessing it's working fine... what issues have there been with Tiamat's before?

No issues reported, because the only kernels around this forum are Barnes and Noble source. Let us know how the battery life is. Not to question your integrity, but did it stick, showed up in settings, about tablet?
That's a great point. It didn't stick. All seemed well when I installed it but I guess the long pause on the next reboot was from the system restoring the last kernel I had. After looking around some more I came to realize that in order to have control of CPU stepping with Nook Tweaks you must have Dalingrin's 2.6.29 OC Kernel 09/01/11 (http://coachz.inetpro.org/~dalingrin/nook/kernels/090111/) or later. So that's fixed.
Meanwhile my battery is only good enough that I have to charge it at the end of every day under normal use, sometimes earlier.
After that, my list of questions fall to:
1. What are good Nook Tweaks voltage settings for better battery conservation (currently on default voltage settings)?

Sounds like your battery drains about normal. I lose around 12 to 15% per hour, always have. I have tweaked the voltage some, but did not see much of a result. There is is no need for virus protection that I am aware of. I have not seen a single thread on that issue (I have been around this forum for a year)
I can't advise on any DNS settings. You may want to play with the voltage some and see if that makes any difference on battery life. By the way, there is an updated kernel in the development forum in MiRaGe's kang build. Look for it in the OP. Also his build, for me, is the fastest and most responsive that I have used. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice... I'll look up the kernel and see how it goes.
1) There's some voltage stuff listed here
2) I don't use any, it seems to me like most malware is centred around phones anyway. I just use Droidwall to block internet access for anything shady-lookin'. LBE lets you block more permissions, or CM7 will too, but with no SIM, no mobile data, no GPS, there is just not as much to be concerned about on the nook . Basically, being aware of what Permissions are, and checking them, should keep you safer than relying on a faceless, profit-motivated company.

4) If you're interested, Tasker can be used to under/overclock any app. So, your flashy game will run at 1200, your simple text reader at 800, and so on.

Westcrips v8.4 Ressurection -> Discussion

Post updated to reflect current version.
OK.. I'm mainly posting this here because my PC is too low to post in the dev thread.. and I think its best to leave that thread to dev discussion...
First impressions:
Installs quite smoothly and pretty fast.
My install method (in case its needed later)
- Back up and copy to pc
- Complete wipe to stock gb. Root gb and install cwm
- Copy ressurection 8.1 zip to SD card
- Reboot to cwm
- Format data/cache, dalvic cache, system and battery stats
- Reboot to cwm
- Select resurrection 8.1 zip and install. Takes about 5 min
- Reboot to recovery and factory reset (probably not needed but did it to be safe)
- Reboot normally and let system boot up. Takes 3-5 min on first boot
Now on to the fun stuff... on first boot I set up language, clock wifi account etc.
I selected and only use nova... I like it better than trebuchet.
Gmail notification crashes Google accounts right off the bat. This is persistent throughout 3 installs. Seems to work fine after initial crash.
Once SD card scanning and such finishes, i disable fast dormancy (*#*#9900#*#* for menu) thenI reboot normally.
Open market, works fine.. install some primary apps... titanium backup & pro key.. better battery stats, root explorer and LCD density monitor pro.
Set dpi to 160 to give me better screen real estate.. then reboot normally
I'm about 11.5 hours on battery and 83% battery with light to moderate use.. I disable mobile data stuff unless I need it, and generally keep wifi active most of the time..
Overall most things run very smoothly. Some apps don't seem to close properly when killed but I assume its due to those apps.
System does get laggy if a lot of apps are open and sleeping.. I use ATK pretty often to keep things smooth...
Problems I've run in to so far...
This one is pretty big I think... when using flashlight from notification panel, if I leave it on until it times out, my phone completely freezes and I have to long power press to reboot or remove battery to get system rebooted. This is persistent and replicated every time I tried.
Gmail app crashes about 30% of the time. Seems completely random. I'v disabled Gmail notification due to this.. (doesn't crash google accounts like above, just the gmail app)
When holding phone I can feel a very very faint vibration coming from the back side up near the camera.. it pulses about once every 2 seconds. You have to very lightly touch the phone to feel it.. like barely touching it. Not sure if its just mine but its very noticeable if you hold it right. Not sure what's causing this.. doesn't seem to affect anything and phone isn't overheating so I can't give more info...
Random reboots are something everyone is aware of so not commenting there. Nova does hang sometimes for 5-10 seconds. Probably due to this being a dev release and such things are expected.
I'll update more if/when I run in to other issues that people haven't really commented on...

android.acore process keep FC..really disturbing..
it bcoz of auto sync and i hope someone have a fix on this
I think v8.2 is the best among Westcripts ROMs. because of the least FC.
V.8.3
Flashed since yesterday , very stable , no FC's at all, however there is an USB problem , PC won't recognise the devised the way it was in previous versions. Nevertheless I believe it's a ICS bug as I found same behaviour in other Roms as well.
Not bad so far using 8.3
I noticed in his dev post he said that official ICS doesn't have blue coloured wifi/signal bars but I've used my friends nexus & his definitely has blue coloured wifi/signal bars when in use.
Everything else seems pretty smooth at the moment.
Looks like this problem with blue bars has been resolved in 8.4 Currently downloading (check change log).
Not being funny, but is there not a thread in the Development section to discuss this rom, surely creating another, just fragments the chefs build

Well actually, that thread is supposed to be for development discussion only; not for general Q&A 'how do I do this or that' like it has been. Which means, if people actually adhered to the rules, using this thread for all the 'HALP' posts would likely make development a lot easier for those working on this particular project. The less spam he has to sift through, the more actual development related posts he can focus on.
Not to mention, as I stated in the OP of this thread, I wasn't able to post my bugs there because of my post count.. So i posted them here, along with some other info (like how to install) about the release.
If only everyone who tried to play forum police actually knew what the dev forums are supposed to be for........

No issue with the notifications that I've seen so far on 8.4
To get the Samsung boot animation back, do the following:
if you have 8.3 or an earlier version, extract a copy then navigate to extracted file > system > media
copy bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg to your sd card
in root explorer, navigate to your sd card > hit menu and multi select. Select the above to files then click copy/move.
Navigate to /system/media > mount R/W > paste.
Remove bootanimation.zip
set back to R/O and reboot phone.

Temporary fix posted by kevjef420:
go to market and install these three apps. ex dialer, ex dialer ics theme and ics adw theme by kovdev.
set the ex dialer as your main dialer in dock. open setting for ex dialer and select ics theme. then long click on the ex dialer icon in your dock and click edit and select adw theme pack and then find the ics blue phone icon.
now you have a very functional t9 dialer that is very similar to the miui dialer and it works great. I am very happy with the results. this is a good fix untill somebody comes up with a t9 fix for asop dialer.
I've flashed 8.5 and set language to German but somehow it's a mix of German and English!?!

[Q][How to] set DNS, Freeing RAM, improove battery, set FF bookmarks widget

Hi, finally here I am with my new Nexus 4. Through different devices that i disliked (like Acer LM, Nexus S in part), now I see a very good phone that does like everything. So here I wanna clear all my (and ours) main doubts regarding settings or tools that improves it. I red a lot in this and in a great italian forum, but some matter isn' t totally understood by people so informations may be subjectives and not in the same way.
So let's start
1- in the beginning of my history with android, 4 years ago, I thougt that 3g data with a good company works perfect with normal settings. But since 2 years I'm using a good and necessary app, Rom Toolbox. It also backup apps, but here it's important the set DNS function. In the past I saw improovements tapping Google DNS, internet was fast, but now, for example, using google search, it takes 2-3 seconds for showing results.
Why this "connection freezing"? Maybe other settings may be helpful for connection ?
ex."auto apply wifi/mobile network tapped, or improove dwd speed in some way...
2- A) I see that some rom users has wonderful battery experience. I would like me too , so I tried CodeFire X + matr1x 7.5 .
It has 10 days of life, but I would like to set everything, so : I need to do the undervolt fix, in addiction to the matr1x kernel (probably already undervolted), or this isn' t necessary?
Do you think that exists better ROMs regarding fluidity/battery improovements? Here I have 0 lag, for now (with a lot of apps installed with no notifications drains).
But I'm not very happy regarding battery: 2hours 22minutes, now 79% with 38% screen (46min), 32% phone calls (18min), 6% android and 4% firefox, connected with 3g (low use).
B) I tried Easy battery saver, i'm so uncertain regarding this kind of apps, because users opinion is so differents, like the choice (EBS, JD,2xB, Green Power). I choice this one only for download and stars rating.
But also Snapdragon may be good. For now, i found on them the lolzful situations: people that talks about 24 hours improovment(!!!) and a lot of people that is very happy, but on the other side others that says that process drains a lot of battery.
I think, at the end, that probably one of this apps may be good for battery, and you? If yes, I can't understand the best one.
3- A) android assistant: I can't understand if the "clear process" widget really free RAM or not. In the past I also red that task killing isn't good for android, but freeing RAM may be good (if apps are really closed, and don't re-open after memory release).
on nexus s I loved to close all processes with it's icon on the bottom of the screen. Now isn' t included (stock included, dunno why), so I can use Android Assistant as substitute?
B) boot assistant on AA really closes all app that i tap? I have everything blocked, like 10-15 processes ,unless sms and 2 widget.
4- I passed 4 hours for understand that dolphin can't import firefox bookmarks, it can't see folders. So I tried FF for android and now oviously they sync and passed everything. But I can't understand how to set FF bookmarks widget, no apps or ways to do it. If not, it's also perfect having a FF bookmarks shortcut
I red about a way to pass them on stock browser, ok , but after I can see on the stock widget all my folders and bookmarks inside?
5- FastGPS is always useful for improoving GPS signal?
please help!!
give me knowledge!!

seems to be a short answer for explaining all, but it only answer a half question - 2) B
I wrote 7 questions(5 +2), so there is much more to say than 20 words.

Hi,
Wrong, it's 99 % user related... (CPU settings -> overclock / underclock / undervolt / governor, brightness, sync -> mails / meteo / social network, rogue apps, data -> Wi-Fi / 3g, reception, usage -> games / browsing or just sms, etc...)...
Yes sometimes a bad battery life can be due to the kernel (bad kernel wakelocks) like sometimes a custom kernel can correct some weird little issues with battery life compared to the stock kernel, but people tend to believe that the kernel or the rom that makes your battery life and ONLY this. It's mainly the user... at least at 95 % of the time.
Don't blame the kernel if you have a rogue app, if you don't know how to use / set your phone (or your CPU) / set your apps correctly for better battery life...
