ICS Confirmed for 2012 - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

It's from Samsung Italy but they wouldn't be able to make such an announcement if it wasn't confirmed by Samsung corporate. And I'm sure that Italy isn't going to be the first and only CSC to get ICS.
http://sammyhub.com/2011/10/28/sams...droid-4-0-update-for-galaxy-s-ii-galaxy-note/

Really cool !

Not going to call BS just yet (I'm sure there will be ICS for the GT10), but it's just one blog quoting another blog. No links to anything official or from Samsung, and I did a quick search and came up with nothing from Samsung (just a bunch of blogs parroting these two, they all go back to the italian blog, though)....

Here's the original link in Italian. Learning from Amanda Knox, I'd doubt it would be said so empatically with Italy's slander laws if it weren't true. The original story also says "Q2" which sucks - that's six months away.
http://android.hdblog.it/2011/10/28...android-4-0-su-galaxy-s2-note-e-tab-nel-2012/

Lol if they didn't release it in 2012 it would be a big story.. Heck, anyone could have predicted 2012

Just waiting for cm9 sure they will come first

Lets wait and see..

We'll probably get some custom ICS ROMs (assuming Google will release code on time) much much sooner than that.

Nothing from Samsung there, just a blog saying something is so without any source. Like pngface said, the real story would be if they didn't release in 2012, but I think this is just a blogger making something up, then it's parroted all over the internet without anyone asking for a source. Maybe I should start a blog... (Also, "slander" doesn't mean what I think you think it means...).

Another blog without a link to a press release, huh? The internet is full of people saying things... Anyways, everyone knows the GT10 will get ICS. The only question is when, and none of these blog posts, real or not, give us much info on that. CM9 will probably happen sooner anyways... or Task and Phantom will do it first!

One thing is sure, its getting closer and closer to release of ICS. Hopefully it will follow the normal procedure for Samsung. With leaked firmware being available thru out the web. If theres any truth in beginning of 2012 then it shouldnt be long before we start seing the first leaked firmwares. I remember on SGS when, Froyo i think, was released we started seing firmware coming a couple of months earlier.

The devs are dependent on the drivers released by the OEMs. Existing kernels won't work with ICS so there can't be a fully functional custom ROM until there's a production ROM (or leak) from Samsung first.

Q2 sucks,if it is true

Everyone needs to calm down. We will be getting ICS, it just depends on when.
I think a lot of people, at least in the US, are worrying because of the lack of updates we've gotten for the US Galaxy S models (I am one of them). Those are because of the carriers, not the manufacturer. The original Galaxy S (i9000) model got Gingerbread many many months ago.
Since the Tab (the Wifi models anyway) has nothing to do with a carrier, Samsung will provide the update. Good luck with the Verizon and TMO versions, although I'm sure there will be ports and not to mention CM9 for all of us.
Bottom line, don't worry!

This is for the galaxy s.... IN SPAIN. This does not apply to people with the vibrant. I would assume the U.S. is more of a priority to Samsung, therefore froyo should be out before then.

Well, Samsung is a Korean company first off. Second of all, carriers don't lock/change their handsets like the US does, so it gets much easier to update when you take the carrier out of the equation. This is why Europe/Asia get new phones and the updates for those phones before the US.
That is just how it is.

And simply by the first launch day, US version of the Galaxy S is much later than the regular i9000, so it is not hard to guess the U.S. variants would get it later than the international version.
Holy crap will everyone just shut up about Froyo. Enjoy the damn phone that you have. Its not like our phones are piles of crap. People are making Froyo out to be some mythical unicorn update. But I'm sure once we get Froyo the same people will be complaining that we don't have Gingerbread yet because the Nexus 1 is getting it in December.

Damn straight! I wish I were mod, then I could lock each and every thread about Froyo.
Lol whats funny is that engadget also reported that the UK Offical Samsung Mobile twitter page reported that
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/08/t-mobile-says-samsung-gps-fix-coming-in-september/
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/08/samsung-testing-gps-fix-for-galaxy-s-phones/
See two pieces of proof something is coming in September, we still have 10 days so lets see what happens.
So We do have like 3 Dates if you want to call it that.
One is September 23, 2010 for Froyo (2.2) which is supposibly for the International Galaxy S. Maybe it'll be compatible with all. Who Knows?
Two is September 29, 2010 for Froyo (2.2) which is for Galaxy S, IDK if all phones or Just International. IDK. I got this date from T-Mobile TODAY. I Called acted like i didnt know Anything about Android and was asking questions about The Samsung Vibrant. The guy said it comes with Android 2.1 but it'll get Android 2.2 soon. I asked if he knew a date, he said hes not for sure but he Read on a Forum somewhere about September 29, 2010. We'll See.
Three is Late October 2010. Which was told TODAY by Samsung Spain and posted on Engadget. So we have 10 days til September is over we'll see what happens. Thats all i know for now.
I'm Really eager like the rest of you to find out when our phones will get 2.2. Not only for Speed Improvement but for GPS Fixes (if implemented), 3 button hardware fix (if implemented) and of course Flash 10, Chome to Phone, the New G-Mail, Google Voice, and Tethering etc.
As eager as I am to get Froyo, I'd rather wait a little longer and let Samsung do it right than have them push something that's been rushed and running like crap. Based on the recent leaks I've seen, the most current Froyo builds have been buggy and not optimized at all.
I think late October/early November is my limit though. If they push it back further, I'm not supporting Samsung anymore. I'll switch to the G2. I can trust HTC will for sure push Gingerbread over to that phone. Who knows what Samsung will do with the Galaxy S then.
Fanboys need to stfu. You do realize many of us have buggy devices, and the fixes are being held up for froyo, right?
Dom't be idiots. Use your brains. The OS is a small issue right now. We want oir phones to work as advertised.
Yes, these buggy devices ARE complete and utter crap.

from looking around and the website url's I think Tmobile is based out of the UK, and this is a Tmobile release. I looked and couldn't find a .us forum for tmobile only .uk including all of the Samsung support also.
I guess the update is directly threw Samsung,
And tmobile vibrant owners can only recieve updates threw tmobile not samsung that's why it wont come over the air and we need to use Kies
Am i rite on this?
If so I wonder if we will have t-mobile bloatware included with update
Once again this is for T-Mobile UK release.
T-Mobile USA is a different company that have the same parent with T-Mobile UK, and many other T-Mobile EU companies - Deutsche Telekom http://www.telekom.com/dtag/cms/content/dt/en/6908
whats that have to do with a software update?
Even if its only "UK" the US version shouldn't be that far behind

I think that since this is from the UK it is probably meant for the International i9000, not our US Galaxy S's.

this is the exciting info they sent..
Robert,
We understand your interest on updates Samsung is working on one and as soon as we have any more information on this we will communicate it.
I can assure you all I sent back a pretty nasty but professional message about their lack of speed with updates and while I understand not a single device from the Galaxy S line up has 2.2, I think the first provider that does roll 2.2 is going to be my new cell provider.
If others can get 2.2 on the Samsung Galaxy S before Tmobile, I am personally dropping my lines with Tmobile.

t-Mobile UK already delayed the Release of Froyo to it's customers. No reason given, but It was supposed to be released via Kies yesterday and no one go it. So a few sources are saying it is/will be delayed yet again.
Samsung told me the other day on Twitter that, "it's coming soon" that same BS, and they actually told me they were "abandoning" the Galaxy S phones (after I said they were...). Then I asked about if we would actually really see it before the end of December and they assured me we would.
I call BS on anything they say anymore about updates, we won't see 2.2 (OFFICIALLY) from T-Mobile or Samsung by the end of this year.

What taking Samsung too long to upgrade to Froyo?

Less bug in their Driver (Bluetooth, Audio, SOC, WiFi), Modem/Radio, TouchWiz 3, and Android Sources in Froyo will give Samsung a faster way to upgrade.
In the future, after Samsung releases Froyo, expect shorter time to upgrade the Epic to (name an android delicious snack).
And because Samsung has own System on a Chip (hummingbird), Samsung has to develop drivers for SOC, it take a long time to find bug and fixing them for future upgrade.
I hope your right... So whats taking so long with CM6.2 lol ,j/k

He's Noobnl...he's one of our "Gods" here he can do w/e he wants 8)
Silly question... is there a Galaxy-S specific to S. Korea? I *know* it wouldn't be the i9000, because S. Korea is 100% CDMA. I'd expect *that one* to have the most active open-source activity, just b/c that's the model Samsung's own developers would be using in real life.
S. Korea is kind of strange... to Americans & Europeans, it looks closed & proprietary. In reality, it has an *incredibly* active homebrew scene. The problem is, Korean doesn't commonly Romanize loanwords, so if you can't read Hangul writing, it looks more alien than even Chinese, and way more foreign than Japanese usually does. And reinforcing the isolation, it's a big country with domestic dev scene that's big enough to keep most Koreans totally happy... for them, there's not much value to make the trouble of digging through English forums worthwhile.
I know this because I have a Robotis Bioloid robot. Their English software & docs are almost *ancient* compared to the Korean ones. Seeing the gap was very eye-opening.
Anyway, my point is that the sourcecode to the CDMA-related .ko modules we need for Froyo & Gingerbread is probably floating around in public *right now* on a site like XDA in Korea. We just need to find it ;-)

Are they even releasing Froyo or are they jumping straight to Gingerbread? At this point, might as well just skip Froyo all together, but seems Samsung hasn't ironed out all the bugs in even Froyo yet.
There will probably be a new Samsung phone out with Gingerbread by the time they get Froyo out for the Epic. Heck they'll prob release the second gen Epic 4G before Froyo comes out.
Reminds me of my frustrating days as a Palm owner. At least we have devs and roms for our Epic.
Froyo
Can't we just create a sticky that says "Lasciate ogni speranza voi ch'entrate"... I kid... Mostly

This reminds me of my last Android phone. I originally had a Hero, we didn't get an official 2.1 until after the EVO came out. Luckily CM6 came out blew the hero away. and then I blew mine apart, from about 300 yards, with a 30-06.

Eclair, not helpful at this point.
sorry 'bout that
yeah... old post... I didn't see the date until after I posted it. Crap on me.... I had a retarded moment. LOL
I'm confused about something.. (unless recent rumors are true), couldn't samsung just release the source *unofficially* and have developers work on it? And then when their team is ready working out their own stuff, they/sprint can push out their own update?
It would be easier to have patience with Samsung if they actually gave one date and stuck to it. Instead we get Tweets, false rumors, and other phones updating before we get anything. Never again with Samsung.
