We get Froyo tonight? (Nevermind!) - Epic 4G General

http://www.tgdaily.com/mobility-brief/52521-samsung-galaxy-s-finally-gets-its-turn-with-android-22
I just read through that article and apparently tonight at 8pm, an update will be available on Samsungmobile.com that will be compatible with all Samsung galaxy s devices that will upgrade them to 2.2.
I hope he means ALL devices. Or I am going to be pissed. :\
EDIT: Look's like the author failed to mention any specifics.
I now await the flamers.

I already am.
Wish the author could of been a little specific.

Just by reading the contents of the article I can tell the author has no clue what they are talking about :/...
That said I wonder if anything useful will be extracted from the Sprint Galaxy Tab and the source they published :/

I just saw the comments and thought the same thing. It's kind of stupid that he would attach a picture of the carrier variants even when the update probably isn't for them.
Something useful will come from the source code, just watch. Someone will find something.

I heard April, June, and July....all from "creditable" sources. I don't know what to believe
....at this point I am just making good on "what we have" and counting my blessings/creating some good stuff
The "real" 2.1 update is going to suck eggs anyway, until the devs here get a hold of it and make it right.
ANY date that you hear that isnt directly from sprint is inccorect. We dont have a date, other than second quater wich has just begun.

Oh, there are plenty of dates "directly from Sprint" being tossed around. I don't belive those, either.
The date I'll believe is the morning I log on to this forum and see a post saying "Holy ****! It's out! Danger! Don't install yet or you'll brick your phone!"
This will be followed by eight thousand posts saying "Just installed official Sprint 2.1 and now my phone is bricked. Please help?"
THAT'S when I'll believe it's really out.

Sprint techs aren't much better than the guy who makes up his own "news releases" to post on his blog. Sprint tech is the equivalent to a cashier at a supermarket, except they get prompts that tell them what to do.

Because when the "official" release comes, then the devs will be working with raw materials that have all the bugs worked out.
Personally, I think the official release is coming soon, and the devs are already working with it, but that's just a gut feeling. It would be cool to know for sure...
This just in... any release from Sprint is going to suck compared to what the devs here have given us already... we now resume our regularly scheduled awesomeness of dev ROMs

Sammy says Froyo for Vibrant in November, right?

Will it happen?
Really........i don't care much anymore I'm already running 2.2 actually I wish it was already out so I could stop hearing about it but then it will just become about 2.3
Still flashing , thanks to odin

Does it really matter? we have had froyo for quite awhile now and I am sure the custom roms we have available are better than the bloatware infested stock that we would get from any official release. I couldn't care less if sammy ever releases froyo at this point.
apparently we're getting the real deal today, nov 30th, and if not, tomarrow via kies. T-Mobile: Samsung Galaxy S getting FroYo
Froyo has already been around for the Vibrant, what is needed is the 2.2 kernel source so the devs can optimize that and work out the small bugs like the 3.5mm jack for phone calls in Froyo...

DUDE use the ****ing search or google or something and wise your ass up, these threads are getting stupid as hell opening every single day. IF you want froyo then FLASH IT, why do you think the stock one will be that good? it will have lag from the RFS system, no root, chances are the ones that are out now are just as good as sammys or better, and will only improve when the real one comes out.
t-Mobile UK already delayed the Release of Froyo to it's customers. No reason given, but It was supposed to be released via Kies yesterday and no one go it. So a few sources are saying it is/will be delayed yet again.
Samsung told me the other day on Twitter that, "it's coming soon" that same BS, and they actually told me they were "abandoning" the Galaxy S phones (after I said they were...). Then I asked about if we would actually really see it before the end of December and they assured me we would.
I call BS on anything they say anymore about updates, we won't see 2.2 (OFFICIALLY) from T-Mobile or Samsung by the end of this year.

So everyone is calling this the official Froyo update, meaning that this is the version that they are going to release via OTA in the coming days (hopefully, not weeks) to retail units not just dev? If that's the case why are so many people having issues with the update? Also, anyone else getting OTA updates? Just asking cause if it's the same one they are going to OTA without any changes I might as well just update right now.

Unless I am mistaken, bluetooth voice dialing is not a native function of froyo, it is included in a google app that is only compatible with froyo. As with all google apps, carriers can choose whether or not to include it. If it is not pre-installed, it can be downloaded from the market.

ICS Confirmed for 2012

It's from Samsung Italy but they wouldn't be able to make such an announcement if it wasn't confirmed by Samsung corporate. And I'm sure that Italy isn't going to be the first and only CSC to get ICS.
http://sammyhub.com/2011/10/28/sams...droid-4-0-update-for-galaxy-s-ii-galaxy-note/
Really cool !
Not going to call BS just yet (I'm sure there will be ICS for the GT10), but it's just one blog quoting another blog. No links to anything official or from Samsung, and I did a quick search and came up with nothing from Samsung (just a bunch of blogs parroting these two, they all go back to the italian blog, though)....

Here's the original link in Italian. Learning from Amanda Knox, I'd doubt it would be said so empatically with Italy's slander laws if it weren't true. The original story also says "Q2" which sucks - that's six months away.

We'll probably get some custom ICS ROMs (assuming Google will release code on time) much much sooner than that.

Nothing from Samsung there, just a blog saying something is so without any source. Like pngface said, the real story would be if they didn't release in 2012, but I think this is just a blogger making something up, then it's parroted all over the internet without anyone asking for a source. Maybe I should start a blog... (Also, "slander" doesn't mean what I think you think it means...).

Another blog without a link to a press release, huh? The internet is full of people saying things... Anyways, everyone knows the GT10 will get ICS. The only question is when, and none of these blog posts, real or not, give us much info on that. CM9 will probably happen sooner anyways... or Task and Phantom will do it first!
One thing is sure, its getting closer and closer to release of ICS. Hopefully it will follow the normal procedure for Samsung. With leaked firmware being available thru out the web. If theres any truth in beginning of 2012 then it shouldnt be long before we start seing the first leaked firmwares. I remember on SGS when, Froyo i think, was released we started seing firmware coming a couple of months earlier.

The devs are dependent on the drivers released by the OEMs. Existing kernels won't work with ICS so there can't be a fully functional custom ROM until there's a production ROM (or leak) from Samsung first.

Everyone needs to calm down. We will be getting ICS, it just depends on when.
I think a lot of people, at least in the US, are worrying because of the lack of updates we've gotten for the US Galaxy S models (I am one of them). Those are because of the carriers, not the manufacturer. The original Galaxy S (i9000) model got Gingerbread many many months ago.
Since the Tab (the Wifi models anyway) has nothing to do with a carrier, Samsung will provide the update. Good luck with the Verizon and TMO versions, although I'm sure there will be ports and not to mention CM9 for all of us.
Bottom line, don't worry!
