ICS evo Rom? - EVO 4G General

Anyone working on an sdk port? They have stable builds over at ns4g that work flawlessly for the most part. So?

Stable builds and working for the most part is pretty contradictory.

Lol you know what I mean

Sdk ports are useless for the most part. Just wait for Aosp source to drop and I'm sure we'll have a CM9 alpha pretty soon. The Evo is after all very very well supported in the community.

Hurray for that

I know on the evo shift they already have a rom that half works..

CM came out and said they aren't working on CM9 (ICS) until AOSP source is released. They don't want to have anything to do with SDK ports.

Once the ICS source is out, we're gonna see a whole bunch of ports and stuff. I think I'll keep my evo on cm7 until the day when cm9 is out. Might even use boot manager to use whatever cm9 betas are released.

We wont get anything stable tell we have the source for ICS and from i heard it wont be tell mid November and i would take atleast 2-3 for devs to get anything good for are Evo since where not on there top priority list im guessing Evo signiture or Bionic well be the first real port

Cyanogen released rc4

Cyanogen mod is so confusing...I haven't seen anything on 6 lately, so I guess eeryone moved on to cm7, but what exactly is cm7?
Cyanogen releases an official rc andit should work on all phones running cm? So he's like the central hub for updates? Is that why official cm support is needed?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Lol.. cm7 is based off Gingerbread, cm6 is based off Froyo..
And of course your not going to see anything off cm6. That's almost like saying now that froyo is out for the epic, devs will continue to release 2.1 roms.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Cm6 was based on Froyo 2.2
Cm7 is based on the current android build gingerbread 2.3
so you can see why we gave up on cm6...
the galaxy S lines don't really get support from cyanogen i believe...

Yeah I know the sgs isn't supported and that's why our guys are doing it on their own, but when the epic is able to get cm7 to run on par with official cm7 and it gets officially supported by cyanogen and crew, will that mean whenever he releases an update, everyphone (epic, htc's,blah) that run cm7 will be able to run it day 1 without no problems?
This is purely a curious question

No it just means that once we have official CM acceptance Team Douche and co will work to fix any issues with our phone in future builds
What effectively CM tries to accomplish is to be more then a rom but a whole Android distribution...similar to how there are multiple linux distributions...so their goal is to have 1 single OS function across all devices...similar to how you have on a PC where you choose the OS and just install it..
Only when SGS is fully working and complaint with CM standards will it show up there.

I find that extremely unlikely, there is no Honeycomb source code from which to build.

He's just following the current 'naming scheme' of cyanogen. Cm6 was froyo, cm7 is gingerbread; since honeycomb is the next update it'll follow suit and be cm8 if they move to it.

2.4 is ice cream honeycomb is 3.0.
sgs cm7 support
the words galaxy s and support don't even go together, lol.
Code:

CM8 Ice cream sandwich

Since the fascinate has been merged with cyanogenmod mainline, does this mean it will be supported when AOSP ice cream sandwich source code gets released? Or does Jt need to dev the whole phone over again for CM8?
I would go ahead and say Cyanogen should take over totally now. Because like he said it will probably be the last update he does. If they have everything working that should give them a template to work from for 4.0. Just a guess though.
He's still working on cm7 along side the cm team , and they compile and host the files

Someone will have to the necessary porting. Ice Cream Sandwich will more than likely contain a much newer version of the Linux kernel, so at the very least, the Fascinate specific drivers will have to be ported to work with the newer internal API.
People on the CM team might be able to do a lot of the porting themselves, but, they will need people specifically with the Fascinate for actually testing out the code (which they may or may not have).

Might be soon, might be months. Those guys are hella busy over there, so they'll get to it when they get to it. My old Eris has had "official" CM7 since last year and it's still not on the CM wiki. Lol.

Jt will still have to maintain it for the fascinate, he just meant that it'll be the last compiled and distributed build of CM7 by him. Since the build bots and downloads.cyanogenmod.com take care of those two.

Any Dev interested in bringing AOKP to epicmtd?

A dev from the AOKP project said that if someone was willing/able to be a device maintainer for epicmtd, he would be willing to begin a build for it.

You should hit up the CMteam in Irc to see if they're interested

AOKP.. Hm I wonder what features they strive to have or have that we don't already have..
It isn't AOKP per-say but CM9 is based on AOSP, and is in definition, "kanged" before it's a Release Candidate.. You could say we already have AOKP via our CM team. still interested on what advantages there'd be in having that in our Epic.

I've run aokp on my nexus and I really liked it. It has many features that have not made it into the cm9 builds yet like the Octolock mod as well as different battery mods built in. Paired with the right kernel it has great potential.

[ICS] should they stop working on it

I've been following the ics project since after my birthday (11/27/11) and a lot has changed but when it comes to (FFC) it came to me that its not gonna work till maybe after the summer or never, whenever HTC gives out the code bit what's your opinion about the ics for the EVO 4G?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
This doesnt belong in the Android Development section, belongs in GENERAL.
My bad I thought it was general at first. The system will automaticly do it for me as usual.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
ummm my opinion on it is that if they dont want to they shouldnt. It will give us an awesome rom but more importantly that means our wonderful devs are learning stuff. this means that in the future they can use these experiences to help them in work or in other aspects of there personal lifes. so dev on guys you are doing great
Why in the world should they stop working on ICS? It makes little sense.
Deck and Kang and others are making great ICS ROMs for lots of phones, not just the EVO4G.
htc will release the code.. because it is an open source project. when is the question, not if.
ics will come..

The OS code is open source. The device drivers are not last I knew. So no, HTC does not have to release driver code.
HTC may release the FFC code for our OG's as soon as they sell enough of their newer devices.
They seem to be dragging their feet in releasing the official ICS updates for the Evo 3D and the Evo Design when they said they would, but they're holding it back, why? Cuz they want to sell enough of the One series models before they officially update the older HTC models that are scheduled to be updated with ICS.
Its kinda crappy of HTC to do that, but hey, they're a "for-profit" business.
But in answer to your question, heck no they shouldn't stop developing ICS for our OG Evo's! This sh*t is fun as hell.

what is the point of this thread? why is that a question? sorry no disrespect.
Yeah, I don't get why a thread was started for this. But why should devs abandon ICS on Evo? Because they can't get FFC to work!? I've been on ICS since the minute they got camera working (around Xmas), and could NEVER imagine going back to GB or Froyo (well, ...maybe froyo).
Keep up the awesome work, all who are working on ICS for Evo.

The evo is EOL(end of life) HTC doesn't have to support it any longer meaning they won't release any source for it as they are not working on ICS for the device. Hardware mfgs may release source for the same hardware in other devices, like they did with the adreno or the devs may code their own drivers. But don't expect HTC to do a damn thing for the evo, period.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
All I'm saying we have a lot of people love the ics Rom but some people hate it cause no 4G. But let me tell one thing about the ics it came a lot since then and like some people who are poor or they don't make a lot of money, its hard to keep up with ics roms when the last two months the biggest change was 4.0.4 which is like starting all over again. Don't get me wrong with the debate about their work, its freaking amazing, but the biggest break through will be the ffc. Closest to that is from a horse ride to a plane ride experience
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
I don't think that they should stop working on the ICS ROM's. I went from Sense to Ice Cream Sense to ICS and having ICS on my phone is like having a brand new phone. We don't have 4G in our area, and the front facing camera I hardly used. I am using gummyWorms ICS right now and so far had no major problems with it. There are minor glitches sometimes but, that is no big deal. I hope that the ICS developers can get everything working and I know that it will take time to do so. I appreciate all of their hard work in bringing us some ICS goodness to our phones.
