iris. - Acer Iconia A500

Is there a confirmation that this works for the a500? I know it's shown as incompatible in the market, but we all know how spotty that prediction usually is... Also, anyone care to post the .apk?

Here it is. I haven't tried it on my A500, but have installed it on my Infuse. It is definitely a beta.

Thete is a better spp that I use on my evo. Its called vlingo. So much better then iris.

I think the point of Iris is just to make fun of siri

I just checked on the web market and it shows as being compatible with my A500. I'm stock unrooted 3.2 at the moment. I'm gonna download it and see if it works.
EDIT: It works, both on my A500 and on my HTC Inspire, but its pretty buggy. After about 20 uses, it messed up and stopped working. When it was working, it worked well though. Get some bugs worked out and it may be a pretty cool little app. Sort of like voice dialer and cleverbot rolled into one.

Skype with video on XOOM

I don't know may it's stupid request, but may could change somehow apk for Thunderbolt that it works on our XOOM devices? I tried to install apk of Skype with Video on my XOOM WiFi, but without success.

Hope that somebody will find a way how to install above-mention Skype on our XOOM

I would LOVE to have this working on our Xooms!
Yeah! That will be pretty neat. I'm not a dev, but truly believe that this apk isn't just sighned for xoom, and that results in "app not installed" message
I tried to install it too, didnt work ;-(
There has to be something within the files that only allow it to work on the Thunderbolt. I opened the apk and searched through the files, but did not see any type of device ID or anything that read "thunderbolt" or HTC. I remember when I used to make BlackBerry hybrids, there were "device IDs" that could be modified. I am uncertain about Android.
I am going to try and install it on other model phones running Froyo and see what I can figure out.
The only other thing I could think is that it is just not written to be compatable with honeycomb as most apps arent.
It won't install on my Evo either

Yes, at least I'm check it, but it doesn't help
Tried installing that APK on Nexus 1, Galaxy S and Xoom, none of them work. There seems to be a lot of buzz about this but not too much info beyond that.
Skype really needs to release a Honeycomb video chat client. With so many HC tablets in the works, it would really be a killer app.
However, I think I can understand Skype's hesitation. Can you fellas imagine the massive amounts of traffic that would hit Skype's datacenters?
I just tried G-Chat Video chat, and it works amazingly well if you guys haven't tried it. At least as a temporary alternative.
Why don't google hurry up and update talk with video like when using gmail you can video chat?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Google's video-chat already works on the Xoom.
Is that a tablet only thing as it's missing from galaxy s?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Google talk video was released only for Honeycomb.
It cross platform Google solution because it works with PC and mac running Google talk.
Unfortunately, there is no such thing for Froyo.
Is there a way to use Google Talk for calls with Skype users?
FYI this program works on XOOM and available for Android and iOs system.

[Q] NetTalk app

I recently ran across the NetTalk app in the market. It seems like it could be a useful app (especially with our BT capabilities), but every time I attempt to make a call, the app force closes on me. It actually compleats the call to my cell, and then immediate FC.
Has anyone else been able to successfully use this app? Or is there something I could try to get the app not to FC?
I'm running CM7 nightly 39 with Dalingrin's OC kernal.
Thanks in advance and thank you to the CyanogenMod Encore Dev team.
Bump.
So, has anyone had any luck??
the nook does not currently support voice/mic so the app is useless at the moment

i tried this out and it does indeed make a call! It seems like this could become very useful to us. It works now on the motorola xoom according to droid-life.com so perhaps it might work with the nook on honeycomb once AOSP is out? we can always hope! but it does seem to be rather important to get calls working over wifi!
As I said currently no mic on the nook so regardless of the app working you can't talk
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk
Not sure about the nook but I have been using this app on my win mo 6.5 , iphone and android and it works brilliant.
Sometimes it does have connectivity issues like all apps, but close and reopen and all is good. Hey a little bit of trouble is worth when it's completely free.
The fact that it actually made a call is what got me excited to begin with, but after some research and reading around the xda nook color forums, I realized that it didn't have mic/voice input drivers as animatechnica pointed out...
Do we know if/when that might be a possibility?
Can we not pair to a bt headset and make calls that way?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Although a by headset will pair, without a mic/voice input driver, it will only play audio out of it. Same with any other computer. If one of the awesome devs on here were able to create one, this little "tablet" of ours wouldn't be lacking much of anything...

what is the BEST video chat app?

I know they're a lot of people wondering like myself.. What do you guys think is the best video chat app currently out that works best for our phones... I use to love Tango but it stopped working for me and my Wife's Epic.. of course its been a few months since I used it.. But which do you think is the best? I figured I would ask before throwing another 10 apps on my phone for testing. Also what roms are you running with it?
Thanks

Let me break it down:
Here is a list of the video call apps that I know to be available. If i'm missing one, let me know. I'd love to try it out:
Tango (Android/iPoop) - I'm going to assume this is the most popular. Video quality seems to be pretty good. I do have some occasional feedback issues with audio, but that comes and goes. The latest version of Tango FC'd everytime I opened it, but luckily for me, I had the version right before the update backed up, so I'm still in business.
Fring (Android/iPoop) - This was the first app I used for video calls. It did the job. I haven't used it in a while, and I know they've improved on it. I switched to Tango because everyone I knew was using it.
Qik (Android/iPoop) - I've never used Qik. At first it didn't support iPoop, and that was the only people I had to talk to via video call. Friends i've spoken with that use it don't seem to prefer it over any of the other solutions, so I haven't really had the urge to try it myself.
Yahoo Messenger (Android/iPoop/PC) - I've had mixed results with Yahoo. It seems to work pretty well for the most part, and is useful when chatting phone to PC as it's simple and alot of people already have a yahoo ID. The only issue I had with it was the video was always tilted sideways no matter which way I held my phone...
Google Talk (Android/PC) - I went down this road when I tried the leaked Gingerbread ROM. I had high hopes, but this was pretty much unuseable for me. I was able to connect, but video was too choppy at best. I'm positive this will improve in the future, but as of today, I don't recommend it.
ooVoo (Android/iPoop/PC) - This is an interesting app. It allows conference calling, so you can actually carry on video calls simultaneously with more than one user. I used this shortly and tested it for a phone to PC call and it seemed to be pretty decent. I'd have to give it a little more time and testing, but my first impression was that it did the job pretty well.
Skype (Android/iPoop/PC) - I know this one is new. I think there's a thread if you want to try to get this to work on your phone. Haven't tried it... can't really speak on it. I would check out the thread if you're interested. I'm sure there's feedback there.
As with everything on this community, YMMV. And keep in mind, all of my opinions are based on using the app with a wi-fi connection, so if you're going with 3g or 4g, you'll just have to test what's out there and see what gives you the best quality call. I hope this helps at least a little bit.
If nothing else, it'll at least give you some options to try.
I just used a modded skype for froyo over 4g and it worked beautifully except for the fact that I was sideways on my friends comp.
It was mad clear! He also said I was laggy a bit but I blame that on the 4g. I haven't tried wifi.
You can try it. When you go to the thread about skype 2.0 in the themes and app section, click the link that talks about the sgs2 or w/e and then there will be another link where the author says "TRY THIS ONE FOR FROYO"
That's the one ^_^

Well, Skype owns QIK so hopefully there will be some crossover pretty soon. Trouble is, even if it's the best program in the world it doesn't matter if your friends aren't using it. Skype is the one everyone else in the PC world seems to use, so now that it'll work on android, that's the one for me.

MAXGO

just incase anyone was woundering. MAXGO will not work on xoom either, which i dont think was a big shocker cause it was devl by the same people.
i removed device checker, and just like hbogo it FC when you try to login.
ahh man, you got my hopes up for a second there with that title... yeah no official maxgo, hbogo or netflix apps for the xoom.
maybe christmas...
Netflix works fine bruh...

Netflix works. Just pull it off your phone and side load it to your xoom. Works great! If u don't have android phone let me know if u need apk if u can't find it on here and il post the app
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
It seems strange that the best use case for these apps (Honeycomb tablets) seems to be the least developed... It seems especially strange that Netflix has the compatibility in place, but won't update the market's compatible apps so the app shows up when searching the market on a tablet.
Maxgo works well from the full site in flash. HBOGo however studders too much in flash to be usable. Like all here, I would appreciate a native app for Android supported on the Xoom. This continues to be a stick upon which Apple fanbois can use to continue beating upon us.

new market for tablets - download

Does this require root? Can someone post some screenshots? I am at work and won't have the tablet for a couple hours.
This new Market version looks exactly like the phone version.
Why have they changed the interface.
The previous one looked great.
Previous version - 1.0.27
this looks just like the new market on the android phones. i dont really like how it looks..... i wish there was a way to hide the movies/books from the market because i doubt i will ever buy/rent a book or a movie from the app store. i noticed no difference in performance. im sticking with the old market for now, but thanks for the download

Precisely the reason I renamed marketupdater on my phone, and will probably be doing it on my tab too.
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
I tried out the new Market app but had to remove it. It caused Earth and Legend to crash on load and I read a report that it causes Dungeon Defenders to crash too. I'm guessing these apps may have some type of protection that calls the Market app?

I'm now running this new market on my a500. I must say that the old market feels cumbersome and clumsy.this is way more suited to hc and is feels streamlined...
I love it on my DInc2 it took a while to get used to but I can't stand the old market anymore.
I haven't run into any problems with crashing apps. Earth runs fine. I'm using honeyvillain's rom.
Does this improve any problems with the Honeycomb Market, like reviewing apps direct from the tablet?
Sent from my Sensation using xda premium
Portrait mode is sweet although the market is really crying out for a customized view, wierdly though the old market is still available alongside the new market on my tab 10.1(overcome rom). Accessing app details is not very intuitive, clicking the icon for the selected app shows details but there is no visual prompt to suggest this(could be a BOB issue). No issues launching any apps so far.
What's the best way to install this? I would think to remove Vending.apk from system/apps, rename this file to vending.apk and put it into the apps folder...is that right?
Update: Nope, don't need to do all that. Just download and install
Update: I LIKE! Portrait mode, FINALLY able to click a screen shot for a larger image, everything flows very well, seems like this market version is even better suited for a tablet than a phone. Thumbs up!
Thanks for the download MJ-12!

Definitely a better market than what was built in. It is a lot faster than the old one, which is especially impressive considering the very limited internet I have access to right now.
Havn't ran in to any problems with it so far.
