So apparently Google is coming out with a N1.5 with 3G Band I (2100Mhz), II (1900Mz) and V (850Mhz), versus the N1 Bands I (2100Mhz), IV (1700Mhz) and VIII (900Mhz).
I do not understand why Google's flagship HTC handset doesn't support every frequency and they (whomever "they" may be) simply enable/disable in software?!
Anyway, I guess this means N1.5 will work on AT&T 3G.
Any insider tracking the Google release date for the AT&T capable Nexus?

The hardware does not exist for any radio to include all 6 3G frequencies.

I was told by my AT&T representative for the SE region of RS that the phone is ready and is being tested to meet AT&T specs for speed on not only 3G but the upgraded HSPA networks. They however did not specify a date other than 2010 for the AT&T version. Soooo.... we shall see, normally they are right with the products coming to the market, like the Moto backflip which I knew personally was going to AT&T over a year ago.

LOL this I didn't, being an avid android lover from day one my AT&T rep got to know me because of the question when we would get an android device.
But AT&T being the best service in my area I can't wait for this!

There is no chipset/antenna design that supports all UMTS bands at the same time. The bgr was just wrong, there are two distinct bb9700: one for t-mobile and one for att.

I wonder what they are going to do to the nexus..remove the unlockable bootloader perhaps? I also wonder if Verizon is going to do the same...
Being on ATT with a nexus one, I really do want to be excited by this news as I am tired of being on edge (thankfully I have wifi available most of the time), but I am concerned about the lengths ATT will go to after seeing what they pulled with the backflip.
I will just sit and wait and watch. Worst case scenario, my cell contract will run dry next year and if ATT buggers up the nexus I can always migrate to TMO with a new contract...best case scenario...I can sell my current nexus to offset the cost of a new one that will take advantage of ATT's 3g...hopefully by then all those dreaded iphones will have moved on reducing the dropped call rate and slow 3g found in my area (seattle).
Two changes needed to support different 3G bands:
1. Antenna
2. Baseband firmware

deprecate: i feel your pain. i wore out my tilt waiting for tilt2...got tired of waiting after device released on other carriers first...and ordered a rogers magic in frustration. now i wonder if google saves us all by selling a google nexus unlocked running att 3g band(s). anyway, i'm an android convert and glad to be. though you lack 3g, you have an awesome device

Oh I know it. The moment I got rid of my G1 in favour of an iphone when I swtiched from tmo -> att I knew I made a mistake...
I have zero regrets about having the nexus; here's hoping ATT doesn't get a bug up its arse and handicap an amazing device because they seem to run their company as though they have pants on their heads.

Thats cool, but now that the supersonic is coming there is no way I would downgrade to a N1. Thats just me though.

Wow, decisions decisions. Dont know which I'd prefer, the Nexus One or Supersonic.
- 4g would be great but I doubt it'll be available in my area for a while. AND, although I love sense UI, it has obviously kept my Sprint Hero at ver. 1.5. I'm not happy about that.
- N1 is a Google phone so it'll receive all updates as soon as they come out. Plus, I like the noise cancelling mic.

I'll agree with you on that one... except that we'll be in the same boat as we are with the GSM Hero...
Nexus CDMA will probably not be compatible with all the Nexus GSM ROMs etc without extra work.
Not a huge deal... better to be that close to the first N1 so we can port their stuff than to have some random crazy phone no one has been developing for.
Also, being able to root more easily would be nice.

Yes but by doing this Google is essentially giving CDMA more attention/work. It seems like the phone manufacturers where doing hacks(it is fact for the hero) to get CDMA to work. CDMA has been supported since 1.6 but now it seems like Google is fully acknowledging it.
ONLY 2 MONTHS after I got the hero. I wonder if it will have a nice subsidized price?

My stock hero was faster than my iPhone 3G and now that Im running 2.1 it's pretty similar in speed to all the 3Gs' I've used.

Well seems the name was changed to the Galaxy Nexus [sounds so much better to me]. The official specs look nice. Some may same only a 5MP camera? The rest od the specs fully make up for it. As its due in November, if Sprint should be getting it, I should say. Thoughts?

If they could just do what verizon did with the zoom and issue it out in November as a 3g only phone (LTE version) and then upgrade them when LTE became available. That would be the best. Don't hold it back from us just because your LTE network isn't ready yet.

i think, like the nexus s 4g, a carrier (verizon) will have exclusivity on it for a bit and then released to the mass over a period of time. makes perfect sense considering verizon will get a LTE version and with sprint rolling out LTE in the first half of 2012, thats when sprints galaxy nexus should pop up.
I'm extremely disappointed sprint won't be getting the nexus 4. Whether that is the carriers fault or googles, it sucks royally. I'm stuck in a contract and have 5 business lines, so its not like I can easily jump to another carrier any time soon. What do you guys think??

I think LTE should be open and there needs to be a global standard. All these fragmented LTE networks is a farce.
As for CDMA...lets face it. Its not a global standard, and therefore open devices are not friendly with such things.
Where's the proof that says it won't get it? Sprint got the nexus s and galaxy nexus so I would think it might get the nexus 4.

Oh well. Contractless GSM really is the way to go.

Whoa there! Hold up a minute. Google didnt say anything about Sprint not getting the Nexus 4. What they said is first they concentrate on producing phones for open standards and the carriers that use them (more or less). Since Sprint uses cdma instead of gsm, they just arent in the first batch of releases - and neither is Verizon as they too are cdma. I guarantee this will play out almost the exact same way the Galaxy Nexus, and Nexus S for Sprint did - they wont have it this fall, but will start carrying it next spring. This is just the way Nexus devices play out for Sprint, unfortunately.
There are certainly enough reasons to leave Sprint (I plan to go back to T-Mobile personally because Sprints coverage is poor in every area I've tried), but the Nexus 4 isnt one of them. They will get it, you just have to have a few more months of patience than the gsm folks do.

I was thinking about getting this device until I found out that it wouldn't work on Sprint.
Sprint like always will be late to the party. Same with the nexus S 4G and the G-Nex...hold tight, well get some Nexus 4 love...hopefully with bumped storage since itll no doubt be thicker than the GSM version maybe by spring time?

I'm really disappointed with Google regarding the Nexus 4 announcement. I have Sprint service and up until now Sprint was very tight w Google and got the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus.
Now with the latest Nexus 4 announcement Google basically told all CDMA customers to f*** off.
So what are our options if your not on GSM and want pure android. Are we forced to buy a GS3 or other phone and root w(CM10) ?
I'm confused by their approach and leaving out so many people who want the AOSP experience and Nexus phones.
What do you CDMA customers plan to do ?

I'm in the same boat. Honestly though, I've largely had it with Sprint and while I've been with them for over 10 years, the quality of the service has declined a great deal in the past 6 months. 3G data is slow and here in San Diego, WiMax was a failure. LTE is promised but has yet to be launched, so the jury is out and it could be 2014 before it's where I live on the coast.
I'm not going to Verizon, but thinking hard on prepaid, to the point of buying the Nexus 4 next month for a few weeks of trialing (T-Mo?) while keeping my OG Evo with Sprint. If things pan out, I might save some money and have a serviceable smartphone.
They don't at least dont with verizon because of a CDMA band that causes verizon to check every update that comes through. They basically arent doing what apple & microsoft to come extent do. They just haven't bothered.
GSM IS more popular, besides the CDMA carriers are more pricey(Yes that means you Big Red).
I doubt the CDMA call will go unanswered. Just give it more time.

Well it was more like Google telling Verizon to f*** off, and Verizon not caring about their customers enough to work a deal with Google and bring the device.
Don't like how Verizon operates? Leave them.
I imagine they are discussing with CDMA characters maybe about providing updates sooner?

Sprint was NOT really tight with Google on their Nexus phones in my opinion. Sprint got the Nexus-S in May 2011, when it was first released to T-Mobile and worldwide in December 2010. Same with the Galaxy Nexus, Sprint got it April 2012, where as the GSM version was released in November 2011, and Verizon December 2011.
If Sprint was Google's best buddy, why have the Nexus phones been delayed like 6 months after release to Sprint ?
I can't really blame google here for the CMDA issue.
Basically google is giving Verizon the middle finger (and rightly so for the way Verizon handled updates)
It's one device...I bet you will see another cdma nexus in the future..calm down

I am so glad I just got out of Sprint.
Currently on T-mobile right now, and having actual 3G makes phone so much faster.
I think you should read the very good articles from theverge.com. They explained why there is no LTE and comments on CDMA.
In my opinion, Google's decision to not release CDMA version will benefit us all.
Google's plan is giving out pure google experience to many people and Verizon so far has been not co-operating well.
Seeing how long it took to have Jellybean reached to Verizon's Nexus device, it resulted bad rep to both Android and Google.
If this Nexus become a success, Verizon my bend to Google's will and deliver the pure google experience.
Also making CDMA version would mean having LTE chip, which will cause fragmentation among Nexus phones.
This will increase the cost for production and maintenance.
They could increase the price of the phone like iPhone and make all variants but I would say it is better to keep the price low so more people can buy it.
Sacrificing Verizon and Sprint customers for the better.
I somewhat get how some of you say Google is giving VZW the big middle finger - especially with the long delays they cause for updates and the ping-pong with Wallet.
I say the real test is if Google scales back the Motorola/VZW love-fest. Moto is so far up VZW's hoo hoo I don't think they can see any light. They release multiple phones on VZW and have a single, US GSM phone that's not terrible, but I don't see it destroying the market either...
I'd personally on some levels love to see Google let Moto fail a terrible, horrible, destructive death and quietly take the patents and run with them like they intended. On another level, I'd love to see Google purchase Tmobile, raise up Moto as a real phone maker again, and have a perfectly, vertically integrated system. Man, that'd be sweet.

I completely agree, verizon has been terrible to google since google started the nexus line, verizon just fights google about google wallet ever since they tried to release it. Verizon was the best...now there are the worst, they just think they're the best. I'm a verizon customer and I can't wait to switch but i can't for awhile. >:l but i still think Google should have developed a CDMA model for samsung, i would love to switch to their unlimited data plan.
CDMA is an end of the road/dead technology abandoned by its developers and development body (i.e Qualcomm and 3GPP2). It also used in very few places (a few providers in North American and worldwide).
IMO Sprint/Verizon/etc are at fault for not implementing VoLTE to get rid of the frankenCDMA stopgap called eHRPD. That way they can sell are pure LTE device and not have to deal with the complexities of circuit switched fallback to CDMA (which is much more complex than for UMTS).
So I'm not surprised, its a terrible mess for CDMAs transition to 3G until they finally get rid of their CDMA network and go to pure LTE.
As someone on Sprint who is about to experience LTE entering my market, I will be thrilled to transition away from these ****e 3G speeds. In the next 6 months I look forward to the fruits of that SoftBank+Sprint deal, as well.
As far as the CDMA versions of this phone are concerned, it seems safe to assume that Sprint's version will be released in a similar manner as with the previous two Nexus devices. I cannot speak for Verizon. I also feel that the gap between GSM and CDMA releases for the Nexus 4 will only be good for the maturity of the CDMA version of the handset.
An interesting aside: I wonder if the SoftBank+Sprint deal that enabled Sprint to take majority ownership of Clearwire means that Sprint will change strategy and put WiMax radios back into new devices? Then there would be a 3G+LTE radio, a WiFI radio and a WiMax Radio (Or it would be a combined WiFi+WiMax radio that switched between the two states).
Sorry guys, but now that Sprint has the iPhone, I doubt they give a flying f*** about Nexus devices. And outside the US, how many people are actually on a CDMA carrier? Not many. GSM is the Global Standard, so it would make sense for Google to market the device unlocked for GSM making it available to the majority of wireless consumers. Plus, if enough people gripe about it to Sprint and Verizon they might fold into the accords of Google.

Aside from the Nexus One, the Nexus devices haven't been very attractive. But the Nexus 4 is sexy as all hell and cheap too. That's why us Nexus users are pissed. :\
WiMax will not be returning. It just won't, it doesn't make sense.
Sprint also has to sell a certain number of iPhones to satisfy their agreement with Apple. I'm surprised they're even carrying the LGOG.
CDMA was a bad choice over GSM a long time ago. GSM is also on the way out, but it's still the global standard and has great interoperability, which LTE does not and may never have.
