Just using usb cable hooked up to the ps3 controller
http://youtu.be/YOw81lDbSas
Thats me playing...

this is awesome. i've been looking forward to this game, and i'm really excited to see that there will be usb support! unfortunately, i just gotta wait for Google Checkout to refund the $2 authorization back to my prepaid credit card because there's just $4 left on it (no real c/c, so this is how I buy apps )

I'm pretty impressed with this game so far. I had no idea it had USB support. Anyone know if it supports bluetooth controllers too?

Do you get the spinning screen when you play with the xbox360 controller? Cause mine does it and I use the wireless xbox360 pc controller.

No spinning here using an original wired 360 controller (yes, the exact one that came with my pre-ordered 360 back in 2005 lol)
Its kind of funny to mention though. I got spinning in Nova 2 the first time i tried to play it. Once I disabled sensor rotation, it was fine. Which reminds me, in 9mm, i recall a similar issue where the camera always wanted to look up no matter how i was holding the tab. Seems to be a common problem

How do you an Xbox controller with Nova 2?

Working perfectly with my PS3 controller, this game is really fun and looks fantastic!

No spinning screen bought the newer wired black style i haven't tried with my wireless with charging cord but that wasn't compatible with a lot of Linux distros so i doubt for it will 4 our nice little tab.

There is a program for controllers avaliable in the market that gives tablets driver support for most popular controllers including the wireless xbox360 controller. Maybe that would solve the spinning problem, which I too encountered. If you do try it, please let us know the results. If I remember the name of the program I will post it.

Xbox 360 controller support? *UPDATE - Testers needed!*

I'm curious, with USB hosting how possible is it that someone will be able to create a driver to get an Xbox 360 controller working on the Xoom? I'm thinking a wired controller of course, but if one could get the PC wireless receiver working as well, that would be pretty cool too.
I found this ROM for the Elocity A7 in which the developer seems to have gotten it all working pretty well, including the wireless receiver. I would absolutely LOVE to play some emulators with the Xbox 360 controller!
So, what do you guys think, doable?
*Update (see post 17): Member thegeektern needs some help testing a kernel he's working on to get this working. He doesn't have the host USB cable or the wired controller yet. I'll be ordering the two shortly and will help if nobody else has already by the time they arrive.

If the interface is there, USB controllers, its doable. Drivers are a pain in the butt. At least for me. But I would rather focus on getting something like a mouse working first.
Don't know if this was done anywhere else before, but there is an eLocity rom that has this capability. Here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=923801
EDIT: err...nevermind...just reread OP and saw that you already linked the thread so nevermind
That would be ridiculously amazing. What would be even better is if it was wireless, but I doubt that is a possibility.

If they got the USB controller to work, maybe the devs could get the USB dongle to work as well:

Yeah, I'm guessing once somebody gets just the regular wired controller working, getting the wireless receiver working as well wouldn't be that difficult. I'm not that bothered about that though. I'm not going to be far enough away to need wireless and if I have to plug the receiver in any way that's not much different than just plugging the controller in.

FYI I have the wireless receiver and it draws a lot of power from the USB port - more than the allotted 500ma - and it got some notoriety for causing problems on systems that were not capable of providing the extra power. On my system, for example, it knocked out the audio when plugging it in, because the audio was actually USB internally.
So it may not be so great on a Xoom.
However, I agree that it would be truly awesome to get at least wired controllers working!
Could this problem be fixed using a powered USB hub, I wonder? Just more things to plug in, of course. I really would like to see at least the wired controller working, though!

Unfortunately when my house was robbed a few weeks back they took my old wired controller, so I need to buy a new one. Also, been waiting to get the host cable until I had a reason (this is it).
Just purchased another wired controller and the host cable. Unfortunately the estimated arrival from Hong Kong is April 8 - April 21... Hopefully someone is able to help test before that.
I have the wireless reciever, and 4 controllers and 2 head sets I can test that with if you guys want to try to get that working. I get the wifi xoom on sunday.

Onlive

Downloaded onlive today and so far its just alright. the lag and graphics need to be fixed, i'm on 25mbs wireless n and it lags. I have also got my sixaxis controller working via Bluetooth and everything works except right trigger in dirts 3 and split second.
oh sweet it does pick up controllers, yeah the lag is gonna fixed or people might have overloaded the service today. totoally worth it for the free game
Not available in Japan yet.

does the ps3 controller only work for certain games?
how about with lego batman since that is free
Well, I got it to work, and it seems ok, but I would like a higher resolution. Does it work with xbox360 controller or PS3?
I works with xbox 360 controler. For me there is no lags, but graphics looks bad. Waiting for updates - maybe they will do it better

So I'm getting just about 1% battery drop per minute of ANY (decent) game play. Is that about right? Seems like a LOT to me...
Also:
I agree Dead Trigger is a good game albeit a simple FPS. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like they super dumb down FPS's for phones because they're expecting it to be difficult to use the screen as a controller.
Maybe they do this rightfully so, but if you use a PS3 controller, suddenly all the FPS games are rudimentary and have no depth or challenge. (they all also run too slow when you have the ability to zoom around the screen with a joystick)

OTG cable is all that you need, it allows the phone to work in USB host mode so you can connect just about any USB device to the phone
For maximum flexibility, I recommend https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.poke64738.usbjoy which is an interface program for USB game controllers which allows you to map ANY usb controller to any key you want. I use this on my Kindle Fire for all the NES/SNES/Etc emulators. It should also work with the bluetooth based controllers. One thing that kind of sucks is that a lot of games are designed from the ground up for touch screen controllers so there is no provision to even change the input device

It's really not very difficult. To connect via bluetooth (which in my opinion is far superior to ugly and annoying wires) you will most likely need root.
I prefer the PS3 controller and this is the app I use: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...5ncGl4ZWxzdHVkaW9zLnNpeGF4aXNjb250cm9sbGVyIl0.
A year ago, connecting a wiimote was like 'WOAH!' now, It's almost expected. This is nothing new, and I'm really confused at why there aren't third party controllers for phones. The first good controller (or PS3/xbox copy) could become a standard to which all games are modeled upon. Game makers could even charge like $30 for a big title game and send you a controller for your troubles.
Unfortunately, as altitude909 said above, most every game these days is made with the idea that you'll be using on-screen controls. So they either do some funny things to make it easier to use the screen which doesn't translate into a controller, or they dumb down the gameplay so that it's just too easy with a controller.
Mass Effect is probably the best game graphically and gameplay wise on the US version Galaxy S3 currently. No matter how hard I try, that game just cannot translate into a controller. Because the nature of Mass Effect being a third person life action but turn based shooter, they tried to incorporate that unique gameplay into a phone, which actually works well with on screen controls, but could be so much more enjoyable if you could use a controller. Problem is that the game requires the player to tap on enemies to aim, and also slide around to use various powers...
Can an otg cable and 360 controller work with games, like emulators, without having root?

Some apps like SNES9x allow scanning for a Wii controller via bluetooth. I just tried it with the Note and it works without a hitch. I believe all the NES.emu series of emulators on the play store work with the Wii controller this way.

With a lot of games you have to map the keys yourself to get the game to work with the controller, no game loft games work without changing the key mapping.
You can find sixaxis maps scattered throughout Google but they're normally for phones but if you download the key maps for the games then go to preferences and change the background, after you've taken a screenshot of the game on the 10.1 you can reposition the keys to your screenshot.
Look for maps by searching for nova 3.map and so on, there's a whole post with maps for the galaxy s3 on xda, just reposition the keys to play on tablet

You might not be interested in buying another, separate, controller; but, of you don't mind, the Moga Pro controller is fantastic. It has a very premium feel to it, and very much so reminds me of a Xbox 360 controller. Its compatible with all of the major apps. Plus, the ones that it isn't compatible with, you can set up for yourself.
They also have fantastic customer support. I picked up my Flo on launch day. The Moga Pivot application wasn't running, so I emailed them. Within two days they had sent out an update and thanked me for letting them know. Also, its fully wireless. So none if that OTG stuff, and you can use it on your phone.

Thanks for that info. Got a link where I can buy? Depends on the price I guess.
It works with Bluetooth?

Just another confirmation that once rooted, the PS3 controller works great.

The OEM ps3 using Bluetooth? And with what app?

I would recommend a PS3 controller. It has been the best controller I've ever used on Android. I have been through them all. I have a Moga Original, and its great for on the go but lacks a D-Pad. I have an Ouya controller, but it's clunky D-Pad is similar to the 360's. WiiMotes (which don't work currently) are great but lacks the button count to play anything other then NES emulators. The Moga, Ouya, 360, WiiMote, and PS3 all have good battery life. Other controllers typically suck the juice and have bad button feedback or otherwise cheaply made. Don't waste your money on anything other then the above noted.
The PS3 has a great DPad and quality. Batteries last a long time, buttons feel great, response time is flawless, connects directly to the Tablet (no dongle like 360).
The Moga is iffy. Seems to be effected with delayed response when using the Moga Pairing app, which is required for the second analog support and for launching games so they pick up on the controls. Controls aren't bad but if you play something like Mario or Sonic, you'll feel the controls are slightly "off". Still a great controller for on-the-go. I haven't tried the Moga on the new N7 yet, they may have fixed this lag.
The PS3 controller is also probably one of the cheaper controllers you can find. I picked up a White PS3 DualShock from Gamestop for $29 new. The PS3 also has the greatest amount of support. It plays reliably across all of my devices, where the others are hit and miss.
The app required is the SixAxis Pairing app from the Play Store. Some custom roms build in this driver and the controller can connect natively, but for the most part, you would use the app. Benefits of the app also include the ability to map buttons to touchscreen overlay controls for games that do not support gamepads.

Out of curiosity, are you talking about the MOGA Pocket or the MOGA Pro? I own the latter and have never had too much trouble with the device in HIG mode (the MOGA app itself though was something of another level of horror).

Using this app: Sixaxis Controller
Note: You must be rooted and use a PC to change the pairing address of the controller to that of your Nexus 7. They provide a free PC utility to do that.
