BLUETOOTH connectivity - Nook Touch General

Hey guys just wondering if anyone is working on activating the Bluetooth on the nook?
For example. Connecting it to some headsets for music.
No excepting much but please comment
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

Sorry buddy, definately no Bluetooth built in. The chip was at first mistaken as the same from the color but actually it's a chip derrived from the same as the Nook but it's had FM and Bluetooth removed to save money :/ Bummer.
The only way would be to develop a USB host mode like the Samsun galaxy and with that you have to be careful not to fry chips. mmm... chippies

thanks for the quick reply
to bad what a bumper would have been nice to have it

I have the same feeling. I was hoping that I could get audio out from BT.

Hint: USB Host mode
The NST is in fact able to do this, it even loads the USB in OTG mode, but our kernel doesn't have all the bells and whistles required for it to work.
There are patches for 2.6.29 afaik (CM), so you go recruit some kernel hackers and you'll have BT adapter support in no time

I've been reading something about this here:

edit
Maybe we could even port it when the time comes.

It could be ported tonight if we had the right people around
Sadly, but understandably, the NST community is not as big as the phone community, and thus we lack the serious kernel hackers.

[Q] [Qs] Video Out and USB tethering?

So I'm thinking about makign the switch to sprint and getting the epic 4g but I'm wondering a few things... I always said I needed video out if I were to replace my Nexus and I'm kinda confused how it works on the Epic 4G.
What I want to do is have video/out out as regular RCA that I can plug into my car stereo for navigation on the dash... would the epic 4g have an output that would allow this? The only thing I've found is this DLNA stuff which really makes no mention for any hard-wire solutions
My 2nd thing is the tethering. I tethering at work to get my own private connection and have been doing this with my Nexus over USB (charges while it serves internet) the most effectively. The wifi thing is nice but not required because wifi usually drains the battery and usually doesn't yield the best broadband performance in my experiences. In any event, sprint charges for the extra ability to tether... but I'm wondering if custom ROMs will allow for at LEAST the USB tethering (built in to android) and hopefully the Wifi tethering as well.
Without reading tons of threads trying to identify the featuers of google vs this phone vs rom, I was hoping someone who has hands-on experience could comment on it.
Thanks!
BTthomas is currently working on a tvout for the epic on 2.2 but no luck has been made also he is waiting for the source so when ever the offical froyo source is here we will all find out to see if the drivers are in there. As of know there is no tv out working for 2.1 or any of the leaked 2.2 rom and we are all waiting for the source.
as for usb tethering there are many roms/kernals that support this as well as wireless tethering.

Sounds promising thanks for the reply... Is it true you can get videoout from the headphone jack? I read that somewhere but it was inconclusive. I figured there would just be an adapter or something but I'm not sure why they would mention the hardware support without the software functionality...

Like is said there is no working tv out period atm, im thinking we might only see one to micro usb to rca or micro to hdmi adapters working, as of now there is no working tv outs, hopefully we will have micro to rca and hdmi ability, or even the headphone jack however it is not know til froyo source is released.

i use USB tethering all the time just like your talking about with this in fact i would be using it right now but my POS Vaio cant power my external HDD and charge/tether my phone at the same time. thats the only down side i have with USB tethering & it has nothing to do with the phone thats a PC issue

[$$$] Bluetooth HID Drivers for Verizon GT

I will pay for the development if someone can get bluetooth HID drivers working for the Verizon version of the GT. I have an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard I desperately need to work with the Tab. This can be my lightweight emergency station to handle different servers if I had a keyboard to type with.
Thanks!
TekSoft (BlueInput) has been talking about adding a fuller Bluetooth stack to thier keyboard driver to help all of the android devices that don't include the full HID (Droid incredible, VZW Samsung Galaxy Tab). It sounds like they are trying to have something in February. teksoftco.com

Great! Though I still need something a bit more definite and sooner.
Any reason why taking the drivers from a Tmo one and putting them on a Verizon one wouldnt work?
Do they use different bluetooth chipsets?
I saw a tear down of a tab somewhere online I need to find again but a lot of wireless chipsets these days are integrated. Cdma wifi gps and bluetooth are often found in the same piece of hardware. This means we may have very different hardware from our gsm friends. This is to handle issues such as TDMA between bluetooth and wifi and other interferences.

Dang. No coders up for this challenge?

I believe on Tab in Samsung's ROM the Bluetooth keyboard support is in IME app.
For my CM6 build i had to enable BT HID in the kernel. Maybe if someone is building VZW tab kernels+initram fs they can try enabling BT HID in the kernel.
I'll check it out if I have some time this week. It *shouldn't* be hard to enable. No promises or anything though.

For sure. I would much ratherhave my options on BT keyboards over the silly Samsung dock.
there is a keyboard that works with the Tab but it's not BT. I picked it up from the Verizon store and love it. Can even hook up speakers if I want.
I compiled the kernel with bluetooth HID included, no idea how to installbit though and am afraid to make a brick.
Any suggestions.

You can't brick it by just replacing the kernel. Worst case scenario you'd need to reflash the rom.
I am still running stock.
How would I go about replacing the kernel?

Did anybody get anywhere with this? I am still willing to donate to get these to work!
I still have the compile kernel, but no Idea how to flash it, I have not found anything on how to flash just a kernel to only the boot partition. I do not want to touch the recovery partition just in case it does not work.
I have no problem with programming stuff, I am just very new to the rom area and want to be safe
It needs to be a zImage, then flash it through Heimdall
I have a zimage....can you give me a little tutorial on Heimdall....never used it. If you will, i will try my kernal....otherwise, I would be happy to upload the kernel here and let someone who knows how try it on thiers
Also, what about signing....does the zimage need signing or do I need some change to allow it to run unsigned?
Amazing to see that people are working on this HORRIFIC issue. I am also willing to donate a bit of cash to get this one working
Thanks for working on this guys! This is HUGE for us wanting to replace their laptop with the Verizon GT.

Enable USB Host Mode

Roebeet at slatedroid has a step by step for using the Xoom usb port for host mode: http://www.slatedroid.com/index.php...le-usb-host-mode-ie-thumb-drives-on-the-xoom/
and it is on days like today that I love my Xoom that much more. By the time the devs are done designing things for this tablet, it is going to be a whole new experience. I feel sorry for people that returned theirs after not even giving it real time to grow.
so this enables host mode, but can you switch back and forth between host and client?
I guess his new boot.img that enables the USB host will be a moot point with regard to the new update coming from Moto tonight. This sucks.
an update is coming?

Regardless of the update, we will still be able to run this great mod. There has been little work done on the kernel as seen on aosp. so all the kernels floating around will still work just fine. In fact, the only kernel work committed from upstream has primarily been bcm4329 work for the wifi only models.
Will this allow me to plug in my external hard drive?

Yes, if your drive is AC powered. And u get the cable. I will release this in my next kernel release with due credits given in my OP.
how hard would it be
To have the OC and USB host lines in the boot/root img?
I would love to have this and OC at the same time!

how about portable external HD's that draw power through the usb cable. theese will also be supported too, correct?
The actual change is very minor from stock - a few extra lines in the init.rc and then the /etc/vold.fstab change.

Going on my GTAB experience, it should work. But, there might be a size restriction -- 128GB, I believe (?) and of course FAT32. Again, going on memory here from the GTAB forums.
My external HDD's are all EXT3/4 so I usually don't test them against an OTG cable.

Yeah I think this might be needed, since it seems that the boot.img for USB host conflicts with the boot.img for OC, rendering your tablet wifi-less. Hope we can get a workaround for this

(gets on soapbox)
Most of the vendors, unfortunately, because they can't hammer out a long-term solution they all can agree on. FAT32 is still used on flash-based devices because of this problem. And it is a problem.
MS, in its infinite wisdom, created exFAT to replace FAT32. But of course its proprietary and has to be licensed. Why couldn't they just open source it and allow it to used for free? That would be too easy, so they can't do that. NTFS is also proprietary, so getting OS's like Android and iOS requires reverse engineering. And HFS+ is, again, proprietary.
What would be best for consumers is that all the major vendors agree on an open-source standard (like EXT4?), and create drivers for their various OS's to support that standard. Then, we could migrate all new devices to that new standard and be done with this problem. Wouldn't that be wonderful?
(gets off soapbox)
Non zoom owner here, potiential in the future. I guess this mean flash drives not camera and phone etc or is it all the same? Wont different drivers b required?

Anyone find a US site that we can buy one of these cables on?
Did anyone have the problem with WiFi breaking after flashing the boot.img? The only way I could get WiFi back was to boot a previous image.

[Q] Will USB port will work as a host?

Will usb port work as a host on the Amazon Fire to support USB flash drive, card readers and other USB peripherals? The USB - micro-b port powered would have to be powered...
If it is, it would compensate to some extent for the lack of microSD card slot.
I have my pre-order in and will cancel if the USB port doesn't work on the host.
Hopefully Amazon will release review models soon!
Thanks!
If you've asking if the device can connect to a pc as a mass storage device, I've read that it can but won't know for sure until I get it in my hands.
Reread your question and I don't think it will do that.
sent from my Infuse at Tranquility Base.
What he asked is if it will work as a host - which means if we could attach pendrives and card readers to it. No one knows right now.
I seriously doubt if the port will work as a usb host. Since, it is a micro usb port, you would need an adapter. But that's easy enough to acquire.
If it does have the capability to host, IE hardware. I don't think amazon would code the software side of things. Espy with all the hype of their could service.
I am hearing that the kindle fire can't use USB host support because it wasn't released until 3.1. Then what about the tablets that do support USB host like the skypad. Also amazon is using a custom version of android which very well could support USB host.
i think it will just be an issue of software, and that is fixable with time, i hear that other android builds with the same proc have the drivers so after rooting you may just be able to sideload the driver on and load it up.
i haven't got mine yet or i would already be tring to get this working, it opens up alot of possiblities with this device (more storage, head set, webcam, printer, etc)
i also hear that the wifi module has support for bluetooth, there just isn't a driver, this is also something to look into.
My boss had his fire delivered today. He borrowed the USB OTG cable (adapter from micro to Full Size Female USB) that I use for my Xoom.
We plugged a thumb drive into it and nothing happened.
Time will tell if software can fix this.

Ill save you the trouble ....this MUST be built into the kernel. Amazon would have told us if this was an included feature.
2 options for you guys.
BUY AN ACTUAL ANDROID TABLET AND RETURN THIS...
OR

Do you guys have any idea how annoying it is to be working on something and getting bothered about whether or boy its done yet? All I ask for is patience. Apparently that's too much to ask for!

Either way, if you are working on this, then I am grateful, whether or not you post up what you're doing

[Q] USB OTG on HD2

I would like to know it the HD2 supports USB on the go, meaning can it act as an USB Host, I'd like to try out this DSLR Controler App which looks quite nice
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dslr.dashboard
If anyone has experience with it (or the ADK for that matter), let me know.
If it is a ROM thing maybe point me to one that supports it
Yes the HD2 supports USB Host, I used it when I put Ubuntu on my phone.
I don't know if the Android Roms support it, but I'm sure some do.. You would have to look around for that

Hi,
check out this thread posted earlier by 'derschnelle': http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459999&highlight=usb+host
It is working now, for me atleast.
I tested it yesterday with Remote Release (USB) on my Canon EOS 7D and the HTC HD2/Leo (on CyanogenMOD9 nightlies) using a Y-USB-Cable (that came with my 2.5" external Harddisk).
However, there are two disadvantages:
1. you need a power source, like a pc, a socket with an adapter, ...
2. after applying the patch to android, the HD2 doesn't seem to charge while switched on. However, when it's switched off, it recharges. Kinda weird, will have to look into that.
