[Q] Google Maps (Navigation) - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello,
im using hyperdroid 3.0.1 on HD2 EU. All works fine except the navigation. i start the app and im able to use this a few minutes.. but then the app just close (without error or typical fc message).
if i restart the app the app crashes in about 1-2mins again and again..
if i use the app a long time, the time between the crashes get smaller so after 30-45min navigation the app closes after 20-30secs..
someone got a fix for it? or some idea? (please no alternate apps - i like google )

Right after it crashes, reboot into recovery and fix permission
worth a try

What version of Google Maps are you using? Maybe it is because of an old version or just because you are in a region that does not offer navigation yet... I am in Bulgaria and Google Maps also used not to start at all. Seek for a cracked apk file - maybe it will help...

I use NexusHD2 latest build, and a week ago google navigator started giving me FC, the solution was to clear the app data (in Settings), then going to the sdcard and delete the cache data folder "/cdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.maps", seems that this fixed it...

Android Market Problems

Anyone having problems with the Market? Able to download apps but they will not install, been doing it since yesterday evening. Don't think its the ROM i am using, but I just want to check with everyone else. Thanks

I had an update to titanium backup hang during installation this morning, but I cancelled and restarted and it was fine. No problems installing other apps, it should be working fine.
Been having the same issue. Just let it be and it will eventually install/download.
I've been having this problem for a while - a download will hang, and I'll have to cancel and restart it. I usually don't have a problem with the installation.
Same for me too... market hangs on download and install...

Mine finally allowed me to update and begin some installs. Hope everyone elses works out too.
Same problem using the stock rom, switched to zippe's DesireHD rom and had no problems with the market.
Yah I had the same issue as well and it happens on multiple roms.
I used to be able to fix it by logging into Google talk app but I have issues signing into that sometimes as well.
Yeah, been having major issues since last night. Made a thread in Q&A about it. I've been having the hanging downloads for a while, but used to be able to restart them, or at worst restart the phone and they would work. Last night, even a factory reset wasn't working. Then they started working for no good reason at all. Now the problem is that 4 apps refuse to install. They are Google Sky Map, MiniSquadron!, Frozen Bubble Breaker, and Frozen Bubble Breaker Editor. These all fail to install with Unknown Error -18. Really annoying since I just bought MiniSquadron and Google Sky Map is one of my favorite apps. I hope that these market issues get fixed soon.

I also notice that some apps from the market won't install on certain roms..... like I couldn't update Google streetview on ava Rom 9.... but I was able to install Google sky map just now....
Maybe u want to try a different rom to see if that solves the issue of not being to install certain apps from the android market.

"Unfortunately maps has stopped"

For some reason while I'm using the N7, just browsing various websites or looking at videos, the error notification "unfortunately maps has stopped" pops up.
I searched around for a fix or even other threads about this on the N7 but have not seen any.
I've tried re-installing the Maps application on my N7 but it seems like it can't be uninstalled. I disabled the app and the error message stopped, but when I wanted to use the Map app, I had to enable it, and after use did not disable and noticed the error notification pop up at around the same frequency.. (every other day or so.)
I have not rooted the device, and have only downloaded/installed a handful of apps; am using Apex launcher as an alternative for the lack of landscape view on the home screen. Thanks in advance for any help.
Same problem I'm having. Not rooted, completely stock.

I'm also having this problem with the Nexus 7 and CM10, but good to know it also happens in stock, saves me some trouble.

Have you tried this: Goto Settings > Apps > Maps > Force stop, clear cache, clear data. Then try rebooting your N7.

Have you tried fixing permissions in recovery or through ROM Manager?
I've tried both, and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling maps, it still happens. Yesterday it interrupted me twice while I was playing a game. It's starting to get annoying.
Yes this is also an annoying issue for me.

If you don't *use* maps, and all the attendant programs (like local, navigation, etc) you can always go into your appdrawer, longhold the app and drag it up to App Info. (or go settings>apps>maps) and choose to "disable" the program.
(This *should* be possible stock, not rooted. I may be wrong, I didn't leave my N7 stock very long ;P)
I might have figured it out. Go to maps, settings, location settings, location reporting, select "do not update your location". So far no message this past day or so (crossing fingers).
[edit] Spoke too soon, just got one.
Call Google Apps support.
I had this issue happen to me for the Gmail app, and unfortunately, this was happening on two devices, occured after Factory Resetting two devices, and removing and re-adding the account.
Google might have changed/switched a setting, and it may have affected your ability to access any saved data you have on your account.
Same problem here, maps has stopped. Happend when my N7 was stock, andre now when it is rooted.
FWIW, this has never happened to me again since I installed AOKP some days ago.

what's aokp? i still have this problem on my n7 and it bothered me again today to the point of googling for a solution, and what do you know, my own thread pops up.
AOKP is a custom ROM. Build 2 just came out a couple of days ago and build 3 is on the way. Cyanogenmod 10 may also have fixed this problem but I haven't tried any recent builds. Also, maps was updated very recently, are you on the last version?
Same Here
i have same problem with google maps on my xperia neo after i flashed my last rom.
after a fresh installation. it s runnning but when i restart i have that message "unfortunatly.. app stoped"
this stuff happened to me all the time on my N7, part of the reason i returned it.
note 2 l900 Unfortunately maps has stopped using favorites
No solutions recommended thus far have worked (fix permissions, clear cache, disable download reenable).
Every time I select a favorite or home or work in maps, it crashes andi get that error message. If I select from the history or manually enter, there's no issue.
Rooted stock Android 4.1.1. Version 6.10 maps.
But not the updated version. I hate the maps updated version. It worked fine until about a month ago (give or take).
Why are so many having this issue?

Sorry for not responding with them ... I stopped following the thread when I found out the glory of Waze (and installed Whompasaurus)
i've read somewhere that could be a font size problem, go to settings and configure the smallest font size and try again, to me i didnt worked, but somehow the crash is delayed 1 or 2 seconds more
edit: i fixed it, my solution was to change the language
on android 4.4.2 (paranoid) you go to settings>>language & input>> english (United states)
don't know why i've set it to [ Developer] Accented English (zz_ZZ), that was the problem
another solutions i've read:
clean cache app
turn off phone, remove battery, wait 5 secs, turn on
flash gapps downloaded from your custom rom web
reset gps and agps, you can do this with "gps status" (search on play store)
try with another wifi, or mobile data plan (some people had problems with wep encrypted wifi's)

[Q] Maps always on (CM10)

Has anyone else the problem that google maps constantly turns itself on in the background and starts collecting memory?
Everytime I used my phone some time and I look up active apps, there is maps with about 60mb ram. And this when ram is scarce anyway and apps constantly have to be loaded new? The process in question is com.google.android.apps.maps, but the process that nees so much ram very often is com.google.android.apps.maps:GoogleLocationService .
I disabled every location based feature I could find, therefore I see no reason at all for maps to run. I am thinking about uninstalling maps, but I use it sometimes..
Any hints?
Edit : This keeps constantly popping up in my logcat:
E/KeyguardStatusView( 2992): ERROR: Could not get Location code
W/System.err( 2992): java.lang.NullPointerException
W/System.err( 2992): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.KeyguardStatusViewManager$1$1.run(KeyguardStatusViewManager.java:334)
Disabling the weather widget solved this, maps however still turns itself on. I can not be the only one affected by this?

bump. nobody else has this problem? I can not believe this!
I had this problem.....as a workaround , I use titanium backup to freeze the app and defrost it when needed.
Or use other apps like sygic maps where you can use offline maps....and of course uninstall google maps.

I uninstalled it because I need the memory for other applications, drives you mad when every new app you go to has to load and then the old one again when you go bad. I am wondering why there is no bigger response, I found no way to stop maps without uninstalling.
Surely somebody else encountered this problem?

I had the same problem and uninstalled it with titanium backup but I keep the backup just in case, I also already had Sygic installed and use that much better for NAV anyways.

I acknowledge this is a valid solution, albeit not one I would like to use.
I love maps and want to keep using it, but this memory consumption kills it for me.
maybe try the app autostarts...
same thing happened with me it consumes more memory from Ram. I recently updated to Google maps latest one and the problem has arrived . Before on old Google maps when i stopped the process it won't run until next when i open the app . But when i updated to latest Google maps it runs at background although i stopped and it again starts automatically. So i decided to uninstalled it to save more ram for my other applications.

Gemini App Manager is a good tool for disabling autostarts for apps that won't stay dead. You need to be careful with it, though, as you can break stuff eg stop Google Play from auto-running and you won't get automatic app updates.
I recently saw an app in play store that would auto-defrost an app when you click on it, run it, nd when closing, freeze it again, all on the fly. Stop that map sucker dead n its tracks until you really need it.
Unfortunately I can't remember the name. You will have to search.

Maps closing during navigation

Google maps regularly closes during navigation, it's not a force close, it just disappears. I have made sure it's protected, I have tried clearing data and cache of Google maps. The version is 9.16.2. I'm on B200, on the GRA-L09.
Does this happen to anyone else?

I have this problem too (i'm on b200). Maps doesn't appear in the protected app list.
Note that similar issues occurred for background apps (wallpaper auto changer, calendar widget, etc.) and i've fixed them using performance mode in power saving settings instead of smart/intelligent.
MapsD (NimaGL2 Default Edition).apk
I am on b200 aswell and gad the same problem.
I need maps and google navigation at work so this wasnt acceptable for me.
I rooted my mobile and deinstalleted google maps completly.
Then iinstalled maps in the version 6.14 ,which I prefer much more.
I installes by this app ( MapsD (NimaGL2 Default Edition).apk ).
Since then no crash or closing anymore

I have flashed the fromfuture but haven't had the opportunity to test the navigation properly yet. I will report back. If it doesn't help I will try the solution suggested above.
I still have the same problem with the fromfuture rom. Not really sure what to do, I may have to roll back to an earlier rom and just live with that.

HERE WeGo force closes [It works with version 2.0.11659 from 31.08.2017]

Can someone please install HERE WeGo app?
Mine is always force closing after trying to log in. Also navigation does not work, app force closes...
I've cleared data and cache and also reinstalled it many times without success.
Yea I had to uninstall the app yesterday after sending a crash report. I'll install it some other time whenever it's fixed!

Google Maps support voice navigation. I'm not sure if it is better or worse than other apps, but it is there.
Same here, fortunately I have bought Sygic in 2014
Oh wonder....
Here was answering on the App-Feedback after the app force closed:
"Thank you for reaching out, we are sorry to hear that you had problems with HERE Maps. We are aware of the issue you are describing and our developers are already looking into it. We will get back to you in case we have some further questions on your case."
Then we have to wait......

Hi Schickel,
I have (had) the same issue, and it finally works now, I installed a bunch of different navigation apps to try them , downloaded their maps to finally think about just fully restart my phone and HERE worked!!
I don't know what is the exact reason that made Here WeGo to fully (navigation, sign in and map downloads) work again but here is my guess to maybe help you.
Force HERE WeGo to stop
Delete cache
Delete files
Uninstall HERE WeGo
Restart the Xperia XZ Premium
Install HERE WeGo and don't start the app
Go to
Settings >Storage & memory>Advanced>Keep Cache
Select HERE WeGo
Close everything
Restart phone
Start Here WeGo
It worked for me and I'm happy to use my favorite Navigation App again, hope it will work for you also.
Cheers.

Sorry to read that
here are more "hints" about how i was using my phone before it worked
it was only the 4th or 5th full phone restart since i bought it ( i rarely reboot)
HERE worked again "after" installing different navigation apps, don't know if that did something (it will be weird), but i will uninstall them one by one and get back to you if HERE crashes again or not.
When HERE worked, i start the app by hazard just to test it again, it was a fresh install, wasn't signed in and no map downloaded, i went straight to navigation and it was my surprise to see that screen scrolling without crash, i tried a route and it worked, i was outside and not connected to any wifi antenna.
i then signed in without problem, and downloaded a map.
I remember also that after fresh HERE installation and before first launch, i went to app settings to manually authorize HERE to access Position and Storage.

I've tested around many options with different navi apps. And nothing helps.
Now I'm back back to Navigon. It also uses maps from HERE and it have one good feature what HERE not have: planning a route with layovers.
EDIT:
Now I've got the firmware upgrade to 45.0.A.5.1. But this also doesn't fix my problem.
I give it up for now
