no 3g icon or internet on my nexus s - Nexus S General

hello everyone, my nexus s 4g is flashed to boost, i been using it for 3 months without problems but in the last 2 weeks the internet was working too slow and i did a hard reset to the phone with the dial code (*#*#786#*#*)
after the hard reset the phone didn't have service because the msid and phone # changed, i went into cdma workshop and restore the msid and phone # and the phone was working again, i can make and receive calls and send and receive texts
but now my problem is that the phone don't show the 3g icon and doesn't connect to internet
i will appreciate if somebody can help me get the 3g working again
thanks

This may sound stupid, but s mobile data enabled in settings -> wireless & network settings -> mobile networks ?
If it is, then have you tried enabling airplane mode and then disabling it? There are times when my NxS drops 3G connection for no apparent reason and this is one way I can get it back.
I saw this posted in the radio guide as way to "retrieve 3G data connection"
Code:
1. Go to Dialer. Dial *#*#4636#*#*
2. Go to Phone information. Choose the preferred network to
"GSM Auto PRL" or "CDMA Auto PRL" or whatever you have.
3. Scroll down, deactivate and activate Phone Radio.
4. Press Menu button.
5. Select Phone frequency, then choose your country.
6. In the previous menu push the Home button to go back to Homescreen.
7. Reboot.

Stuck SMS problem - Try this out...

Didn't have time to browse all the posts on this issue but while we're waiting for the next useless hotfix from HTC, I tried to go with manual settings for the network and network type by doing the following:
1. Wireless controls>Phone>Band: Change network type from Auto to WCDMA. Left Band Frequency on auto. Done.
2. Settings>All Settings>Personal>Phone>Network: Changed "Network selection" to "Manual". Your device will search for all available networks. Pick your carrier/network from the list.
3. On the same screen as 2, tap on "Set Networks" and uncheck all other networks except your own primary network.
With the above change the phone will only have my home carrier to choose from (not sure if that makes any difference) and the network type will always stay with HSPA which is no problem for me in the area I live, in fact I want that.
Cant confirm if this does it since the issue occurs sporadic, but so far five days without any SMS stuck in the outbox which is unusual for me, used to get it every single day.
Obviously the above leaves it to you to manually manage the network settings as well as running H all the time may be a problem for some, but if this works as an interim (hopefully not permanent!) solution for some users it could be worth giving it a shot...
Cheers.

On mine under Wireless Settings>Phone is only has the options for sounds available?
Jammie: Doesn't sound like the right place. It's basically just the Comm Manager.
Thats right: Comm Manager/Phone then scroll down to Band to make those changes, then Done or Cancel and hit the Menu/Network or Advanced Network tab.
Bear in mind that if you select WCDMA only as opposed to Auto, then you will have no signal at all if you go to a non-3G area (of which there are still many thousands of square miles in UK!); overall its best to keep this at Auto for everyday use.
OK, I did steps 2 & 3 but on the first I had problem... Phone couldn't connect with the network with WCDMA, only with gsm, so I turned it from auto to gsm... I don't care about 3G
have tried all that and it didn't solve the sms problem for me...

Carrier switching - Note 3 LTE

Hi
since i flashed my n9005 with 4.4.2 i have problem with carrier switching,
i use carrier that allows to connect with network by two ways:
by mother carrier - let say nr 1
or by two other carrier with domestic roaming - networks 2 and 3.
when i use my network 1 - i can connect with LTE speed, while in roaming only speed H is allowed.
And my problem is when i manually connect with network 1 my phone keeps switching to 2 or 3 after loosing signal even for few seconds - in elevator or staircase.
I wanted to lock it on my network by i can't.
Didn't have that problem with Note2 LTE...
is there any way to lock on single network, i don't have option to disable roaming, there is only option for data roaming.
Have you tried just going to settings --. connections --> more networks --> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators --> selecting the #1 network? If you select one here, the phone should turn off Auto switching and it can't change to another network unless you select one manually via this method. Or at least, mine remains on 'no service' untill I select another when crossing the border.

Try dialling *#*#4636#*#* and select the first entry (Telephone information). You can set your preferred network type there. On my phone there are a lot of options to choose from, including LTE only, WCDMA only, etc.

4) "Advance" here you find three options
"4G (recommended)"

not receiving incoming calls...

just got the phone yesterday and updated it to the P beta. everything works amazingly well for a beta in my opinion, BUT i cant receive calls. outgoing calls, texts, web and apps are just fine.
spent almost 2 hours at tmobile flipping all the settings around and no luck. any ideas would be appreciated.
Same issue here bro...Incoming don't ring but I get voicemail notifications.... Really annoying, even if it is a DP.
Turns out the beta doesn't play well with the essential LTE. Switch to 3g and calls will come through. Hopefully it doesn't take long to find a work around for it
I believe the people having this issue have volte enabled...try and disable volte (it's broken anyway and more than likely why calls won't ring through) and see if that works
Got same issue... My experience was that I could solve the problem with reboot.
Issue came after playing on settings for mobile network.
Is meaning, when you do this you have to reboot afterwards otherwise you can't receive calls
Try it.

Tried rebooting multiple times while changing settings around. The only way I can get the calls to come through is by going without LTE completely.

Settings/network settings/mobile network/advanced/enhanced LTE?
I had the same issue and to fix mine I just enabled Wifi Calling.
When on wifi I didn't get a call, just missed call notification. After enabling wifi calling, it comes through without issue.
I tested calling off wifi and on wifi and all calls come through good now.
This could be similar, so you guys might want to look at that also.
Good luck!
Heard from a few that this was solved by going into phone app settings -> calls -> calling accounts, then turning on "receive incoming calls". Seems it's disabled to save battery? Can't confirm as I just flashed to try it out and then went back to 8.1 because I like themes too much. Lol.
I'm on Sprint and was never able to make or receive calls regardless of Network settings in the easily accessible options menu.
The following fixed my issue. You can access this menu without downloading an app but I forget how so it's easier to just download the free app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xsquarestudio.forcelte
I had my network mode set to LTE/CDMA when first using this app, and somewhere in the middle I changed it to CDMA but I'm not sure how much that impacted the actual fix.
These were my steps. I'm not responsible for any damage this may cause to your device as I'm not sure if messing with these settings is foolproof or not.
First, opened previously linked app "Force LTE" then under "Set Preferred Network Type" I changed to CDMA only. Enabled/disabled airplane mode. This seemed to do nothing as LTE was still showing in statusbar.
I then chose CDMA auto (PRL), airplane mode on/off, didn't seem to do much either. LTE still showed in statusbar and couldn't make calls. Also "Voice Network Type" showed "Emergency Calls only" inside the app.
I then chose the 3 dot menu and chose "select radio band". I changed that to United States, without resolving problem. Then selected "Cellular 800" and this may have solved the problem, but I continued on and selected PCS, fiddled with some settings in Phones settings menu. Was finally able to receive calls and my signal indicator showed 3G. In app Voice Network Type was listed as 1xRtt. I decided to select radio band once more and chose Class 10.
Calls were still functioning fine. So I went into Main settings menu and changed mobile network from CDMA to LTE/CDMA. LTE kicked in and calls still work!
Again, these settings may only work for Sprint hence the PCS Network option, and I believe Sprint may utilize the 800mhz frequency. The app might show you different options depending on your carrier. I don't know.
Anyway, fully functioning! Woohoo!!

I don't have anything in my settings that says "enhanced LTE" .
Tried using the 4g/LTE and the LTE only options. Neither would let calls through.
I have this problem using the Essential PH-1 with Android 9 Pie in South Korea on the KT network. It should be fully compatible, according to radio specifications, however it only works when I change the following setting:
Settings | Network & Internet | Mobile network | Advanced | Preferred network type | 3G
This is not ideal, since it makes the Internet slow, but at least I can make/receive voice calls. I submitted a support ticket to Essential requesting their official help (I'm well within warranty).
I had the same issue when I use my Att prepaid plan. The problem is caused by wrong network type, you can send text and browse internet, because they use the different channel. My PH-1 wrongly recognized the sim as CDMA/LTE mode, just switch it to 4G/LTE, it will be work. Go to Settings, then search "wi-fi calling", point "advanced" then you can see an opinion "Preferred network type" if you are ATT or T-mobile user, and your preferred network type is "LTE/CDMA“ then your phone cannot make call. Switch it to "4G/LTE", you phone will be work. BTW, Verzion uses CDMA, so if you are Verzion user, CDMA/LTE will work for you phone.

Can't set preferred network from testing menu

After the latest update, everything worked well until I noticed that I can't force phone to use certain network via testing menu (it can, however, from the setting itself).
Usually, by typing *#*#4636#*#* on dial pad, the system brought up the testing menu which allows me to see phone information, mobile and Wi-Fi usage information. By tapping phone information, the phone shows up the information of SIM1 (and even SIM2, depends on phone's system/ROM), along with the IMEI and other nerdy stuffs.
There is a dropdown selection called "Preferred network" (or something similar), which basically 'forces' the phone to use only the network selected (you can force phone to use LTE even on bad signal, which usually auto-switches to HSPA).
However, hours after the update, the dropdown menu seems useless and can't change the preferred network. Tried soft restart and hard restart and it still doesn't work.
What should I do, then? This doesn't really bugs me but it annoys me whenever I want to use only LTE network since it eventually switches to HSPA on bad signal.
i got the problem to.. cant lock lte after update. help please
