[Q]Noob needs help choosing - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi guys,
I know I'm being lazy and people like me are annoying
I saw the development section and its crazy :O
Anyways I'm active on the galaxy S forums and know my way around flashing that phone but now my friend want me to put Android on his HD2.
Its still on Windows mobile, nothing modified. European/Dutch version.
So many roms here, maybe someone can give a tip.
-Easy to flash from windows mobile (im a galaxy s flasher)
-Most stable Gingerbread build, doesnt have to be the latest version
-Everything working, fast and no bugs. (dont want him to come back complaining)
-No cyanogenmod
-No preinstalled apps etc. Basic apps are fine but not stuff like Titaniumbackup etc
No need for extra stuff like huge amount of customization stuff or oc etc, its not my own phone and the guy just wants to use it for apps an normal browsing
Basically a clean stock install, maybe a little skin or launcher. Touchwiz launcher is great maybe something like that or maybe Sense, but most important its clean and simple.
Which rom is recommended?

Thanks Gonna try this then. Seeing as 2.0 version is around the corner and maybe it will bring clk so I'll wait for that

I flashed my HD2's with MIUI ROMs, one with iOS second with Honey......
Love both of them, everything works. And funny thing, iOS looks just like Iphone!!!
Kudos to the dev!!
Really easy to flash, I used Magldr and just followed instruction of the OP.
Do not forget to D/L HD2 toolkit, run Task29, install Magldr. Then you can go 2 ways. Either CWM.... that worked for me loading iOS or Magldr.
Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010498
Sorry... for some reason cannot find the link to HD2 Toolkit. Maybe someone can post the link for you????
Good luck.

Will someon help me?

I am looking for someone that has experience in themes and something to apply them with. I am using cht 1.8 and I am also using stock tmo us rom and radio.
I tried out hdwalls and it didn't work out too well.
I've seen issues reported when the music is just copied over to the storage card. One of the files causes the music player to take ages to load.
The common solution is to use WM player to sync the music i think...
Sorry responded to wrong post!! my bad..
you must be mis-understanding me. I am not talking about anything close to music. i'm talking about applying wallpapers and themes like hdwalls does. I hae tried the gtx theme but it doesn't work on my phone it distorts everything and shows no today screen cuz it all gets covered by the distortion.
I wanna make some really nice today screens but have observed you need some programs to do it with.
Not sure but gonna guess it is because you have a "Stock" rom ..
Most of these packages require a lot of "fixes" that stock roms do not have ...
one of the big things is installing unsigned apps , stock roms, don't let you do that ..
but i'm very cautious about flashing my rom. I am not sure that I am fully ready to flash a custom rom. I have chosen nrgz energy rom with gtx theme but I dont' feel I have been given the whole complete set of directions

Well there are plenty of threads here on this forum about flashing, HSPL is important first ....
Flashing a custom rom is a lot easier than trying to customize a stock rom with the hundreds of fixes that is required to make it "LOOK" like a custom rom.
remember the main rules of flashing a ROM
1.)Search
2.)Read
3.)Read Again
4.)Read it Again
5.)Rinse and Repeat
trust me I've been reading for weeks and weeks and weeks. before I even made my username I sat around and read up to like 30 pages back on each section of the htc leo hd2. I know that first back to 2.10 rom so I can get 2.08 spl then get hspl then flash the rom. but yuo know being the first time doing it I'm kinda worried that I might do something and I haven't really found a walkthrough on each detailed step on nhow to flash a tmo us 1024 leo cuz I keep finding smaller and smaller details as I keep reading. not that you guys aren't a legitimate source I just feel I might be missing something.
1. backdate to 2.10 rom
2. get hspl for 1024
3. flash rom.
Missing anything?

Might want to backup your contacts and things, and maybe even your sdcard ...
I used Microsoft My Phone to save my contacts , sms and such to the cloud while I flashed ...
Also you may want to search for Task29 this is a way to make sure your phone is nice and clean to accept the new ROM, task 29 is the last thing you do before flashing the ROM ..
The first 2 months I had my HD2 I think I flashed it about 9 times before I settled on the Energy Rom ...

This is the thread you want to read. It's very simple to do.
In short, download and install HSPL connect your phone, make sure you have 50% battery or more, you don't need to update your radio for it to be compatable with Energy ROMs as you are already using a TMobile USA device, download the GTX Energy ROM. Extract the two files 'LEOIMG.nbh' & 'LeoCustomRUU' file to a folder on your desktop, double click the 'LeoCustomRUU' which looks like your HD2, and follow the on screen intructions. Give it 2 mins and the phone will restart and voila you have a new OS on your phone.

Read my sig. I love NRG and I love the Energy ROMs, some will say you aren't going to get the best battery life from them, but to be honest I haven't really noticed any difference. They are super fast, and look gorgeous.
*Edit*Oh and NRG updates almost weekly so he really does an absolute plethora of updates on the smallest things, so I would say they are without a doubt the most refined ROMs avaliable.

To be honest I thought I was NOT gonna like it, but after using it , it seems to be very stable.
I have flashed it twice to my TMOHD2 and both times, had to do a battery pull after the first full boot ... BUT after that it has seem to run perfect ..
I flashed it twice just to see if the battery pull trick worked the second time, not that it failed to flash or anything like that ....
But I would read the features list of several ROMS before deciding , also you will find that ROM flashing can be addictive, once you start it is like you have to have your NEXT FIX .... /me shudders ...
well since you've flashed 9 different ones I think I have gathered from what you said. What does energy have that other roms don't besides stability and performance.

Stability and Performance ... Is the best thing to look for, the rest of the stuff is eyecandy ... and with the custom ROMS you don't have many issues making it behave the way you want it to ....
Just check out the Energy ROMS thread and look at the apps that come installed, it is a personal choice ...

I would not worry too much about doing a task29 since you are going from stock ...
I use it when going from custom rom to custom rom, to make sure "Everything" is clean ...

Need HELP! Need step by step instructions to get Android on my phone!

Alright, so I bought a used HD2 for $150 today and gave my fiancee my rooted Galaxy S running Bionix 2.2. Now I have this Windows 6.5 phone and no clue how to get it to run Android.
I have looked across the forums and all it does it make my head begin to smoke, lol. I am completely and utterly lost. I'd like to be able to boot into the multiple OS's, Android (preferably the HyperDroid ROM), Win7, and whatever the main third one is, and get that cool "Resistance is Futile" boot screen.
Right now though, I am reading about MAGLDR and stuff and it's saying I need radio and this and that and I have no clue what its talking about, nor any of the other stuff. I am quite surprised I was even able to root and ROM my Galaxy S, though I used a one click root and the ROM was a simple install.
Please help a daft idiot who is in dire need of some Android, lol.
EDIT:
Read this on the tmobile forum. I know nothing about radios, but I like the sound of the improved reception and battery life.
You will need to go to the XDA Developers website and find the ROM Development section. There are many to choose from. I use the Energy Sense with Cookie Classic and GTX ROM using the Froyo Sense 3.1 build. Also search for the thread on increasing the battery life. Changing the registry line code made a world of difference for me. Now I can easily have my HD2 in standby mode with auto sync and WiFi on for two days on one charge with light use. I am now using the Android 2.2 build as my daily OS. I am currently using radio 2.14.50.04 and previously had 2.12.50.02. Battery life on the newer radio for me is better when the phone is in use, about the same when not in use but the cell reception is much better than before.

Thanks man!
Now, if I use that method to get Android on my phone, will I later be able to have it dual boot with Win7, or triple boot with Win7 and Ubuntu?
It's not possible to 'thriple boot'.
Basically these are the steps you need:
Flash HSPL 2.08 on your HD2.
Flash the newest radio (2.15.50.14).
Flash MAGLDR.
Just look around for the links. They're all in the stickies anyway.
After that you csn flash WP7 to NAND and Android to the SD Card so you can dual-boot both. That's basically it.
Also, look on YouTube, there are handy guides on there.

I read on these very forums that its possible to triple boot, all the way up to quintuple boot. Someone made different splash screens for all the different boot OS's.
But thanks for the help though, I'll at least have Android soon enough.

If as u say "Triple or Quintuple boot" means running either WP7 or WinMo 6.5 exclusively as a base, then running multiple builds of android "SD style" ? Then yeah u could do dat....But u can't have both WP7 & WinMo 6.5 on d same device as they both need exclusive storage in d same memory location....hweva if d above has been made possible? then pls do reply adding d link of such a post as i'm curious as 2 how it was pulled off.

Thank you! Helped for me
No sorry. It's not possible. What's possible is to do is to boot WM and Ubuntu, WM and Android, WM and MeeGo (not yet released), WP7 and Android and possibly Android/WP7 and Ubuntu. Not too sure if you can do the last one. It's possible to have four OS' on the HD2, but not at the same time so it's not really 'triple booting' or 'quadruple booting' as you can only have two running at the same time.
No point in trying to contradict me dude.
Oh and btw that bootscreen you just flash from HSPL. Somebody could make one with an Apple logo, that doesn't mean it can run iOS.
Got it, running bluetopia now, you guys are awesome.
EDIT: NVM, got everything I needed, thanks all.

not sure how far along you are with your G1.. i assume its rooted haha but the best sense rom i've used to date would have to be zachattack052 & xillius200's 2.1&1.5HERO: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670414
but with this rom you need to have the latest radio and hboot: 2.22.28.25, 1.33.0013d. this rom has most of the latest features and all those sense widgets we all love so much. If anyone knows of a better rom i would love to try it but as of now thats the best i know of. also if you need help flashing it DO ask questions before trying something you are unsure of.. because there's always that possibility of bricking your beloved G1. and we dont want that now do we..? haha feel free to ask me anything you need..

uhhhmmm im not sure why that would be but i did notice some of the roms dont come with gmail on it so you may have to download the actual gmail app... if not than try reflashing.. because i didnt have that issue.. not sure if it is a huge difference but i also had the 28.25 radio not the 27.08.. also i know it sounds dumb but you actually do have to wait like 10 minutes after the service provider pops up when you first flash.. i recomend following the steps on the rom link exact!! but i know my google services worked when i had it so maybe jus try a reflash if its still not working... sorry for your trouble.. im gonna re flash the rom now so i can see if i find anything...

it should be 2.1 if im not mistaken... my friend just got the 4g evo and this rom can almost do everything that phone does... almost.. lol it's just the G1 is older and slower so you must be careful on how many widgets you use and jus keep an eye out for your basic memory drains.. i reccomend apps2sd

haha yeah i tried that one too and the animations for the clock widget are messed up lol in all honesty the G1 is gonna run hard with all the goodies your looking for so you might have to give up some of those features for it to run smooth... other than that i would use the zx2.1 possibly the best i used so far that has all the eye candy... but i recomend the one i posted earlier bcuz it will run a lil smoother without all the newer stuff like market and photo apk. jus my opinion..

Hi! Semi-New to forum... Need help on Android 2.3.4 for HD2!

Hey everyone.. If theres any thread that thoroughly explains how to install Android 2.3.4 please direct me and help me out! If not, please help me out on this thread of my own.
I'm seeking to flash Android 2.3.4 on my HTC HD2(T-Mobile USA). I'm a total noob with flashing but i see some videos and things like that on youtube. I dont know whats going on in those videos and how they do it. Right now im on Windows Mobile 6.5(sad).. I want to upgrade to Android 2.3.4 because it seems to unleash the phone's full potential right?
I'd really like to have the best Android 2.3.4 ROM and not some laggy full of bloatware Android ROM. I like performance i hate it when my phone is skippy, sluggish and laggy. I see the Cyanogenmod7(CM7) on the HTC HD2s.. Is there anything better than that(performance wise and software compatibility)?
Need some help and direction where to go and some information on whats going on and how to do this! Please and thanks a lot!
All the information you need is in the sticky topics or via the search button.
Also you should get this, It will make things easier for you.

Ok, wait wait wait now whoa..
NAND vs SD? These are two different ways to install the Android ROM.
How is the stock WinMo 6.5 installed? Obviously not SD. NAND right? Or is it installed some totally different way?
All this seems really confusing to me >.< sorry for being a noob i cant help it, im trying to learn though i want to see my HD2 looking at me with an Android OS saying "Free at last! Free at last!"
PS: Whats MAGLDR and cLK???

HI,
I think you should be aiming for a NAND system(faster and more stable...no WM involved )
Be prepared for A LOT of reading...
Start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948
then check my sig...guide number 2 (I would go for MAGLDR to begin with)
use this tool to install task 29,HSPL, magldr and CWM partition.
Check here for ROMS:
http://android.hd2roms.com/
Remember:
The more you read, the more you will understand, the fewer mistakes you will make.
Lol its okay about the reading, if i get useful information and knowledge that i actually am interested in i'd keep reading =]
The sad thing is.. I'm reading about cLK and MAGLDR...
MAGLDR on the HTC HD2 will use RMNET, which gives a more stable data connection, but with packet loss(slower speed). While cLK gives faster connection(i dont think theres packet loss obviously), but the connection is not as stable and could freeze up Android. Plus, both MAGLDR and cLK are just different types of ROMs but both can be for Android, and in order to change from a MAGLDR to a cLK ROM you need to re-flash the whole device to the desired ROM.. Correct? (read carefully if its mixing you up, sorry)
Thats what my brain has taken in and gotten out of reading various threads and posts throughout the forum. That is accurate and true correct?

Hi,
OK.MAGLDR and cLK are different bootloaders.clk is more android friendly because it is native andoid, but there might be packet loss (this might be avoidable with the use of "wrappers",but I have only read this...I use magldr)
I suggested magldr cos its easier..end of.
Ksubedi has been very busy in the past couple of days simplifying the whole bootloader
situation.Check here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
He has also simplified the process of installing and switching between magldr and clk:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111081
To sum up the choice is yours.
Magldr has got a game of Tetris you can play.
With cLK, you can charge the phone when its off.
So i might as well not flash any ROMs yet from Android since they are still defected in some ways. Thats lame =\
What about Windows Phone 7? Are there any defuncts on that ROM too?

Hi,
Quitting already?
I thought you wanted your phone to come alive.HD2 was made for android.
Just choose a bootloader, go to the list I showed you ,pick a 2.3.4 like Hyperdroid and flash it. At least try it.Wm7 isn't perfect either.

Turn off any anti-virus program. Some people had some issue with it.
here is a complete guide on installing everything, step-by-step.

just a pointer about your clean install.pdf, , you make no mention of creating teh EXT partition, which most roms now support, so most people are gonna want to know about it.
It's optional though

EXT partition is optional unless it's req by the ROM developer.
