Will someon help me? - HD2 General

I am looking for someone that has experience in themes and something to apply them with. I am using cht 1.8 and I am also using stock tmo us rom and radio.
I tried out hdwalls and it didn't work out too well.

I've seen issues reported when the music is just copied over to the storage card. One of the files causes the music player to take ages to load.
The common solution is to use WM player to sync the music i think...
Sorry responded to wrong post!! my bad..

you must be mis-understanding me. I am not talking about anything close to music. i'm talking about applying wallpapers and themes like hdwalls does. I hae tried the gtx theme but it doesn't work on my phone it distorts everything and shows no today screen cuz it all gets covered by the distortion.
I wanna make some really nice today screens but have observed you need some programs to do it with.

Not sure but gonna guess it is because you have a "Stock" rom ..
Most of these packages require a lot of "fixes" that stock roms do not have ...
one of the big things is installing unsigned apps , stock roms, don't let you do that ..

but i'm very cautious about flashing my rom. I am not sure that I am fully ready to flash a custom rom. I have chosen nrgz energy rom with gtx theme but I dont' feel I have been given the whole complete set of directions

Well there are plenty of threads here on this forum about flashing, HSPL is important first ....
Flashing a custom rom is a lot easier than trying to customize a stock rom with the hundreds of fixes that is required to make it "LOOK" like a custom rom.
remember the main rules of flashing a ROM
1.)Search
2.)Read
3.)Read Again
4.)Read it Again
5.)Rinse and Repeat

trust me I've been reading for weeks and weeks and weeks. before I even made my username I sat around and read up to like 30 pages back on each section of the htc leo hd2. I know that first back to 2.10 rom so I can get 2.08 spl then get hspl then flash the rom. but yuo know being the first time doing it I'm kinda worried that I might do something and I haven't really found a walkthrough on each detailed step on nhow to flash a tmo us 1024 leo cuz I keep finding smaller and smaller details as I keep reading. not that you guys aren't a legitimate source I just feel I might be missing something.
1. backdate to 2.10 rom
2. get hspl for 1024
3. flash rom.
Missing anything?

Might want to backup your contacts and things, and maybe even your sdcard ...
I used Microsoft My Phone to save my contacts , sms and such to the cloud while I flashed ...
Also you may want to search for Task29 this is a way to make sure your phone is nice and clean to accept the new ROM, task 29 is the last thing you do before flashing the ROM ..
The first 2 months I had my HD2 I think I flashed it about 9 times before I settled on the Energy Rom ...

This is the thread you want to read. It's very simple to do.
In short, download and install HSPL connect your phone, make sure you have 50% battery or more, you don't need to update your radio for it to be compatable with Energy ROMs as you are already using a TMobile USA device, download the GTX Energy ROM. Extract the two files 'LEOIMG.nbh' & 'LeoCustomRUU' file to a folder on your desktop, double click the 'LeoCustomRUU' which looks like your HD2, and follow the on screen intructions. Give it 2 mins and the phone will restart and voila you have a new OS on your phone.

Read my sig. I love NRG and I love the Energy ROMs, some will say you aren't going to get the best battery life from them, but to be honest I haven't really noticed any difference. They are super fast, and look gorgeous.
*Edit*Oh and NRG updates almost weekly so he really does an absolute plethora of updates on the smallest things, so I would say they are without a doubt the most refined ROMs avaliable.

To be honest I thought I was NOT gonna like it, but after using it , it seems to be very stable.
I have flashed it twice to my TMOHD2 and both times, had to do a battery pull after the first full boot ... BUT after that it has seem to run perfect ..
I flashed it twice just to see if the battery pull trick worked the second time, not that it failed to flash or anything like that ....
But I would read the features list of several ROMS before deciding , also you will find that ROM flashing can be addictive, once you start it is like you have to have your NEXT FIX .... /me shudders ...

well since you've flashed 9 different ones I think I have gathered from what you said. What does energy have that other roms don't besides stability and performance.

Stability and Performance ... Is the best thing to look for, the rest of the stuff is eyecandy ... and with the custom ROMS you don't have many issues making it behave the way you want it to ....
Just check out the Energy ROMS thread and look at the apps that come installed, it is a personal choice ...

I would not worry too much about doing a task29 since you are going from stock ...
I use it when going from custom rom to custom rom, to make sure "Everything" is clean ...

Noob question

I'm new to this whole WM stuff. I'm getting my first WM phone tomorrow (Verizon XV6800). I've been looking over a lot of posts about themes and ROM and about everything i guess. The question I have is, before installing themes, should I flash the phone? And what does that involve? I see that there are different ROM's out there. Are there any i should stay away from and will one affect certain themes? And I've read something about Radio and Kitchen. Not sure what those are about either.
I guess I need to know what the first thing I need to do to my phone before I start "playing" with it?
Thanks for helping a NOOB!
keep reading and searching keep an eye on dcd's roms they are the best
Scrawnyb has a nice guide for VZW users that walk you through the flash process step by step... recommended - quite painless if followed closely...

If you want to use the GPS for other apps like TomTom, Google Maps, Live Search then flash DCD roms with the 3.42.XX Radio roms. I use .50 as I don't really see a big difference between them. If you don't use the GPS or would be happy with paying Verizon to use VZNavigator then use the MR1 stock rom update. I personally like to customize my ROM with other OEMs so the application is apart of the ROM. I also like to use my GPS for all the apps above and also GeoScout, a geocaching GPS application. I also hear that DCD's ROM are the most stable and clean for maximum memory free and performance. Keep doing your homework on how/what to flash. It is pretty easy but follow the instructions carefully.
Thanks all of you for your advise. I just got my phone and getting ready to play with it. When I flash it, does it get flashed to the phone itself or the memory card?

It will flash to the internal ROM, so once it is flashed it stays static all changes or new software would be in RAM or SD Card.
Thanks all for your help. I got everything up and running. Got some themes on there that i was playing with until i got an HTC Home theme that locked everything up. Ended up havin gto do a hard reset. The way to learn i guess. Looks like for now, i'm sticking with windows. some good things out there, but ALL seem to have bugs.

New to HTC Touch (from i760)

Hey I just got the touch for Verizon and have a few rookie questions.
I read a lot about changing the ROM but am a bit confused. What is flashing? Is this necessary? I see that it is really dangerous and irreversible for Verizon. I see general instructions, but are there Verizon specific ones around anywhere?
Also I downloaded this Valhalla gps cab to get GPS working. After I resetted, I downloaded google maps and tried the gps with no luck. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Also I'd like to get that Manilla 2d on my phone. What's the best route for this? Am I risking getting rid of the cube?
I know I am asking a lot of questions, if you can answer one I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
Zack

Great switch! I had to ditch my i760 too !
Flashing is the term used to basically say your upgading your ROM. It's not necassary, but once you do it, you'll be much happier with the overall performance.
Other vocab to know:
ROM: Read-Only Memory, all your system files, your OS.
Radio: This is for your phone, and GPS, you need a v3.XX for GPS functions.
RUU: ROM Update Utility, the application used on your PC to flash the new ROM.
Bootloader: When flashing, this will be the screen you need enter, you can enter it by pressing and holding the Power & Camera buttons, then soft reset. You only need to enter this when checking SPL versions, and for flashing.
Kitchen: The set of files used to cook a ROM.
Cooking: Another term for creating a ROM.
You need to read as much as you can before you decide to flash a new ROM. When you do, you'll see those terms thrown around quite a bit, so know you won't be as confused, I hope. Those are the ones I could think of off the top of my head.
For now, flashing the xv6900 is irreversible, so if you decide to do it, make sure you are fully aware of what you are doing, and be prepared in the event something goes wrong. But, if you can successfully update the ROM, you'll be happy with the end result. Trust me, it looks confusing, but when you're done you'll see it was really a piece of cake !
The reason your GPS does not work is because you have the stock Radio, it must be updated first, but as I said before, be sure to have a good knowledge on what you are doing.
If you want the Manilla 2D, just install the .cab file from its thread. It will not remove your cube, since they are two different "apps." But, my suggestion is to get rid of it, since it's quite useless, just search around, once you find the other great developments here, you'll want to ditch it ASAP.
For extras, see my Tips & Tricks thread, link in my sig.
What rom do you recommend? I am ready to flash it. I am looking for threaded text as well. I'd really like to use GPS as well. And I though there was a ROM with Manilla 2d, maybe I am confused. Anyways, please recommend a popular rom, and where I could find some instructions.
Thanks so much.
I e-mailed you, but I then figured I should make it public

There really isn't a "popular" ROM in the sense each one is different and better suited for different people. 99% of the ROMs available will have the updated Radio as a mandatory step, so GPS will be included, and threaded SMS is a default for WM6.1, also a standard in most ROMs. I think there are a few Manilla 2D ROMs available, but all it really means is, it's included with the ROM.
When you flash the new ROM, you update all the system files, so after a flash, if you were to do a hard reset, you will not go back to the original VZW ROM, but the new one you flashed. So, with that in mind, do some browsing around to find what's included in the ROMs available.
All the ROMs you find will be different, they will have different apps, tweaks, and graphics. Just think what you would prefer, a fast ROM, lots of included apps, or one with more storage memory?
After your first flash, the Radio will be updated, and the device will remain unlocked. So unless you need a new Radio version, which I highly doubt, you can flash any ROM of your choice, without having to unlock the device or update the Radio. You'll probably go through a few to see which one you like the best.
Also, make sure you have read everything possible, thinking about this logically, you've got a 50% chance to do this wrong, nothing personal. Just be sure your confident you have read enough, and know you can fix it if there is a problem. As you know, it's irreversible, before you flash, ask yourself if you have a spare $300-$400 just in case.
Happy Flashing !
just discovered this, which is what ive been looking for which should help you.. its in the wiki tab but heres the link

Wow 50 percent chance? I don't like those chances. Is there a clear step by step instructions link somewhere, so I can increase my chances?
Also it says to delete your partnership with activesync. I'd like to keep all my contacts and datebook. Is this necessary?
Also, is it possible to just update the radio? Just to get GPS? And if so, how risky is this?

Updating the Radio and flashing are pretty much the same, considering you need to flash the new Radio for a new ROM, for the GPS enabled ones at least, which is almost all of them. Once you have unlocked your device and updated the Radio, flashing the ROM will be done almost in the snap of your fingers, the ROM is the easiest and most painless part. The first two, the Radio and unlocking, are the ones you need to pay the most attention to, and you should only really need to do those steps once for any ROM flashes ever on this device.
I recomment OMJ's bell ROM's, you can find them on ppc geeks. What's nice if you decide to install the manilla 2d today plugin it seems to work near perfect with his roms.

Perfect WM and Android Combination. NO ECHO OR SOD! Updated: 8/7/10

First i want to say thanks to all the developers that got involved to make this possible. Their hard work and sleepless nights are greatly appreciated.
I tried so many combinations of ROM's and Radio's that i gave up and nearly lost hope until a friend of mine at work found the perfect combination of Windows Mobile and Android to load on the US Tmobile HD2. Maybe i should buy him lunch tomorrow .
I think many are experiencing the issues i had, soooo.... I wanted to share this information and show you all little lost sheep out there how to get to the light at the end of the tunnel.
If you want to start from scratch, meaning from the factory ROM on the phone, then do what i did and follow the instructions below in the same order i performed them. If you are savvy enough to follow along without starting from a stock ROM, then more power to you. These steps are for the dummies like me who are out there and cant follow instructions.
Again this is for the US-TMobile HD2's. I dont know that this will work for the EU HD2's. Try at your own risk.
Step 1
Install the TMO Stock ROM. Click Here
Step 2
Root your TMO Stock ROM by installing 2.08.HardSPL. Click Here
Step 3
Install Energy's "Stardard-Energy" ROM located on the US TMO forum but for your convenience.... Click Here
Step 4
Install Radio version 2.12.50.02.2. Click Here
Step 5
Copy shubCRAFT's "Android" folder to the root of your SD Card. Click Here
- (I edited the startup file to prevent the "cant access tty; job control turned off " error message, therefore this install should be plug and play.
- When the copy is complete, place the SD CARD back in your phone if not already, and run clrcad & haret from the Storage card.
- You can also use the auto boot loader .cab file on your WM rom to autoload Android. Click Here
Updated: 8/7/10
For those of you who are having issues and don't know how to modify the startup.txt file. Here is a copy of the startup.txt file without the "loop_partition=mmcblk0" command line. Click Here
Just copy the file to the Android folder and overwrite the existing one and you should be all set.
Step 6
Here is a new 1GB userdata.img download link. Click Here
The old one was giving issues with texting. If you guys want a bigger userdata file let me know. This will also fix any download issues from the Market and prevent low disk space errors when attempting to install an application from the SD card.
Update: 8/7/10
Here is a 4GB userdata.img for the ones that wanted a bigger file. Click Here
I'll have to try this. Keep having the static/echo problem no matter what radio I use. Currently I'm running ChuckyROMS and dan1j3l's Froyo build. Got one more radio to try and if that doesn't work, oh well, I'll try this combo.
As far as I remember I am using ChuckyDroid and Radio 12_50.2 and matt latest version and no echo/sod since yesterday and got about 20 hours out of battery life. Must mention I use the phone "alot" so my battery drains accordingly

Working perfectly, no robotic voice
the new zimage is what kills the echo, nothing magical about it.
Frustrating!
Even with the new zimage, clean SD, I still get robo-voice. I refuse to clean out my stock TMOUS ROM / radio though...there has to be a fix that doesn't require me to do HSPL....(i own a mac...is there an easy way to do HSPL on a mac?)

You know guys, I really gotta say this. I think its really mestup that when you try to download the "Standard-Energy Rom" they give you the option to either pay them for a fast download or suffer through their agravating super slow download that they intentionally made that way for who ever doesnt wanna pay up.
I noticed the "Affiliate Program" they have which for those of you who dont know, it just means that every time someone goes and pays for the "super fast download", there is someone behind the scene getting paid for making you pay. That someone is usually the one who provides the link to that website.
Why am I exposing this? because who ever is doing this should at least have the curtesy to let us know it is NOT free to download and HE will make money when you choose to pay, not just thinking he's fooling people to a comission- which he is.
The last time I tried downloading for free, it took 2 1/2 hours and at the end I got a little "Error" message saying there was a problem downloading and the download could not be completed. - .. as expected for not paying up right?
How do I know this, because I AM an "Affiliate Marketer". I know how this stuff works, but I dont work this way.
has anyone realized this is a emulator .....lmao

Yeah you got it, thats the only "magical" thing. With the last Radio all Echos are gone and the Bad Backround noises too.
No one must try diff ROM and Radios anymore.
I use the Original 1.66 Stock ROM and Darkstones Desire v5 (my absolute favorit) and with the latest zimage the last Soundproblems are solved.
I only wait for GPS works in the v5, coz than it is the perfect build.

Even with the new zimage, clean SD, I still get robo-voice. I refuse to clean out my stock TMOUS ROM / radio though...there has to be a fix that doesn't require me to do HSPL....(i own a mac...is there an easy way to do HSPL on a mac?)

Best Sense?

Hi,
I'm looking for best sense for g1. My requirements are backlight, android 2.1+, good battery life, fast, stable. Which rom had what I won't? Does maybe better on 1.5 android? I'm waiting for a reply
I second this, I would like Sense too, anyone?

may be consider buying a new phone

not sure how far along you are with your G1.. i assume its rooted haha but the best sense rom i've used to date would have to be zachattack052 & xillius200's 2.1&1.5HERO: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670414
but with this rom you need to have the latest radio and hboot: 2.22.28.25, 1.33.0013d. this rom has most of the latest features and all those sense widgets we all love so much. If anyone knows of a better rom i would love to try it but as of now thats the best i know of. also if you need help flashing it DO ask questions before trying something you are unsure of.. because there's always that possibility of bricking your beloved G1. and we dont want that now do we..? haha feel free to ask me anything you need..

uhhhmmm im not sure why that would be but i did notice some of the roms dont come with gmail on it so you may have to download the actual gmail app... if not than try reflashing.. because i didnt have that issue.. not sure if it is a huge difference but i also had the 28.25 radio not the 27.08.. also i know it sounds dumb but you actually do have to wait like 10 minutes after the service provider pops up when you first flash.. i recomend following the steps on the rom link exact!! but i know my google services worked when i had it so maybe jus try a reflash if its still not working... sorry for your trouble.. im gonna re flash the rom now so i can see if i find anything...

it should be 2.1 if im not mistaken... my friend just got the 4g evo and this rom can almost do everything that phone does... almost.. lol it's just the G1 is older and slower so you must be careful on how many widgets you use and jus keep an eye out for your basic memory drains.. i reccomend apps2sd
here's a link to another pretty cool sense rom http://www.youtube.com/user/ANDROIDZ13 this kid makes roms on his spare time and there not too bad looking.. not sure if they are OFFICIAL yet but i give him props for doing what he does.. only thing is not sure what radio and hboot are required for his roms... im trying to get a hold of em to find out, once i do ill spread the details with the rest of you, but for now take a look at his latest sense rom and some of his previous work and dont be shy to give thanks.. haha yeah i tried that one too and the animations for the clock widget are messed up lol in all honesty the G1 is gonna run hard with all the goodies your looking for so you might have to give up some of those features for it to run smooth... other than that i would use the zx2.1 possibly the best i used so far that has all the eye candy... but i recomend the one i posted earlier bcuz it will run a lil smoother without all the newer stuff like market and photo apk. jus my opinion..

[Q]Noob needs help choosing

Hi guys,
I know I'm being lazy and people like me are annoying
I saw the development section and its crazy :O
Anyways I'm active on the galaxy S forums and know my way around flashing that phone but now my friend want me to put Android on his HD2.
Its still on Windows mobile, nothing modified. European/Dutch version.
So many roms here, maybe someone can give a tip.
-Easy to flash from windows mobile (im a galaxy s flasher)
-Most stable Gingerbread build, doesnt have to be the latest version
-Everything working, fast and no bugs. (dont want him to come back complaining)
-No cyanogenmod
-No preinstalled apps etc. Basic apps are fine but not stuff like Titaniumbackup etc
No need for extra stuff like huge amount of customization stuff or oc etc, its not my own phone and the guy just wants to use it for apps an normal browsing
Basically a clean stock install, maybe a little skin or launcher. Touchwiz launcher is great maybe something like that or maybe Sense, but most important its clean and simple.
Which rom is recommended?

Thanks Gonna try this then. Seeing as 2.0 version is around the corner and maybe it will bring clk so I'll wait for that
I flashed my HD2's with MIUI ROMs, one with iOS second with Honey......
Love both of them, everything works. And funny thing, iOS looks just like Iphone!!!
Kudos to the dev!!
Really easy to flash, I used Magldr and just followed instruction of the OP.
Do not forget to D/L HD2 toolkit, run Task29, install Magldr. Then you can go 2 ways. Either CWM.... that worked for me loading iOS or Magldr.
Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010498
Sorry... for some reason cannot find the link to HD2 Toolkit. Maybe someone can post the link for you????
