Hi Friends,
Hope you could help. I have a X1 and I been trying to get it connected to my DIR-655 thru wifi with no avail. Surprisingly, I have 2 wifi network at home and it could get connected to the other one. I am sure it is not a router issue as my iPhone could connect to it using same login settings. Both my wifi routers are on WPA2. This is really puzzling me.
Cheers and thanks,
I have trouble with WPA2 security as well. WEP works just fine, though.

But the thing is it is working with WPA2 with my other router. Very strange.
I have the same issue. Can't connect to my wi-fi router at home, though have no trouble to access others. Or better to say I get connected, but internet is working either too slow and too short, or not working at all.
I did have this issue when I gott my X1,
after a few days I unplugged the router for 2 mins and plugged back in, then waited until it started up and tried to connnect and it worked.
dont know why it worked it just did so maybe it will help you?
Have you tried logging on to your router, and allowing your X1's IP address.
Thats what i had to do on my netgear.
well, I've even arranged a static ip for the mac-adress of my x1, enabled DMZ for that ip, but still doesn't help.
I've pulled the plug of the router out many times so far, doesn't seem to help.
routers are basically rather small computers
their firmware have bugs
which is why the manufactures
put out firmware updates to fix those
newer wifi devices like phone of often give issues
with older routers with older firmware
updating firmware is pretty easy and can be downloaded from the manufactures site
yesterday I tried again and I don't why, but it is working now still a bit slow and some programs don't connect (QIP, SPb Online tv etc), but at least browsing works.
p.s. forgot about router firmware, gonna try it tomorrow.
Hi
I just received my htc hero, and I really love it.
The only problem is, is that when i try to browse the web it doesnt load webpages. My WiFi is signal is good, i even removed the WEP key but still no succes, and on my old iPhone I can browse the web using the same WiFi connection
Does anyone know what the problem is?
Mike
Can you use the internet on your pc? Is your router setup properly?
yep everything is good..
does obtain an address ??
yes its 192.168.1.101
also if connected, select the menu key and hit advanced, make sure its not set to a fixed (static) address unless you need that.
I have mine set to 14 channels too... not that I probably need that...
i did that and it is not static also set it on 14 channels but no effect
well i had that issue when i just got my hero phone. everything was fine, signal was excellent, dhcp was ok , and it even got an ip but there was no data connection present. The only solution was to update the router's driver. In my case, it was a d link 524.try that too. ( just to precise that i had no problems with my previous phones with the router)
Another thing is to try setting the router to g mode only.

what type of router do u have? u might want to search for a hacked driver for it. o know for a fact that u can find a lot for linksys.
try to connect to other AP's just to confirm that the problem is a compatibility issue bet ur phone and ur specific router and not the phone itself.
I got the same problem.
at home it works great with the router.
But at another router by my girl,
it connects to the router but the Internet doesn't work.
Sometimes it works for about 3 minutes.
I couldn't find the problem and her laptop works great
with that router.
The router is a Sitecom Wl-173.
Do you have the same router?
I am having a similar issue. It will work for a few minutes and then although the router signal says good I get no data coming through.
This is only a recent development though as I upgraded from a Linksys WRT54G router to a Linksys WRT160NL (which is Wirless-N), now I know that the Hero doesn't support N but the router is set to mixed mode as I have more G devices than N in my house so it should still work fine.
I will try tonight though swapping the router over to just work in G mode and see how I get on.
Its been suggested that the stock Linksys firmware on all models has issues with the Hero, which is why my old router was OK as it was running Tomato firmware instead of stock Linksys.
I guess I'll just have to wait until a 3rd party releases one for the WRT160NL
I had the same problem with my D-Link 524, i changed it to a netgear and internet has worked perfectly on my Hero since. It is a problem with the D-Link firmware and how it communicates with the Hero.
I had a similar problem with my router. What did it for me was to disable all security stuff (WEP / WPA) AND access control (i.e. define which devices may connect to your router). Then try to surf via hero. If surfing works, switch back on security stuff, surfing should still work. At least it did for me.

I second this, however,if you still have the Di 524,you should know that an update is out and it fixes the connectivity problem.

The wifi-stack in the kernel on the hero doesn't work well with many APs. With D-link I've found problems when the boxes run in 802.11n with b/g compatibility. The results are best with the AP locked at 802.11g.

I have that router and have the Wi-fi connectivity issue on my Hero. I've been looking around for updates for firmware/drivers but haven't been able to find anything.
Do you have a link to the update you used?

what is your version od the di524? is it the g2 version?
I think it is the G2 version, yes. It does say G2 on the label on the back of the router.
I flashed my WRT54G with the DD-WRT firmware to enable it as a reciever, but can't get it to connect to my wifi tether. Has anyone tried this? My biggest problem seems to be that i get assigned a different gateway and dns host every time I start the tether... The purpose of all of this it to play on xbox live over my sprint connection. Any suggestions?

yeah, make sure you have the latest wifi tether(for infrastructure mode) and that your router actually works in client mode, it's a huge pain to set up.
Is there a guide to this anywhere? Do we need a certain rom or kernel? I've got the latest wireless tether and can't seem to connect either.
At my summer place I am running Talisman Mesh and can't get my EVO to consistently connect to it (mostly it doesn't, but it connects consistently to my winter home wireless)
Is there any interest in this at all? I would be surprised if there weren't. That is, the ability to use wireless tether on the Evo as a host for your DD-WRT enabled router. Is it a case where this has been tried but failed so such a thing has been given up on for now, or is connecting in this manner such a no brainer and I'm just missing something? Will anybody who knows details on getting this to work please post a how to or even a mini how to including if you need a special kernel or ROM (as I've read stuff about AP mode but never saw anyone get into detail on kernels/firmwares)? And if someone knows for sure this DOESN'T work, can you please say? I would really appreciate it.
I'd say there isn't much interest in getting this done. Most ppl would just use wireless tether and call it a day. I find DD-WRT client mode flakey anyways

I was able to with my dd-wrt asus wl-500w router.
I was never able to get wpa to work
Followed the tutorial dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Mode
Then started tethering on the evo Channel 6, no wpa
Did not work on the other channels for me
PS

next powered on the router and waited.
Then I pluged in a computer hard wired and it worked.
used it to install debian netinstall
and to fix a laptop with no wireless drivers to install wireless drivers
Hope this helps.

Infrastructure mode is a must!
Just want to (re-)confirm one thing:
the wifi tether must be in the infrastructure mode, right?
If so, could someone explain why ad-hoc mode will not work? I tried to tether my TP2 (I know it seems to be very old for just one year) to DD-WRT enable router and could not get it work. wondering if there are other options.
Thanks!
this worked for me, specifically with dd-wrt in repeater bridge mode (client mode worked as well).
-evo 29.651.6 rooted with latest wifi-tether
-wrt54g flashed w/ dd-wrt 24sp2 in bridge repeater mode with primary and virtial ssid as evomifi on channel 6
-xbox360 hardwired into wrt54g
So, i'm able to get internet for hard wired devices while simultaneously getting a range extension on the evomifi ssid.
Might be able to teather to one pc, then set up ics host on that one pc to send internets to LAN then inturn giving internets to 360.

I'm having a strange problem. Before I brought home my Iconia, my router (Netgear 3600) had been stable and running without crashes or a restart for months.
Now, if I leave my tablet in sleep mode, I return to find that although the tablet says it is still connected there is no Internet connection. Also, my other wifi devices are offline too. I have to restart my router to get a connection again.
Is it possible that my Iconia could be crashing my router?

I'm not saying it is, but it MIGHT be a coincidence.
There's not much a wifi client can do to to crash a router afaik. If your router doesn't like dlna/upnp then I suppose that could cause it to whack out, or if there are too many wifi clients on it...but I can't think of anything else.
What's the exact model of netgear? WNDR? DGN? Also, are you still connected locally? Can you ping the router but just can't get to the net? What about a wired connection? If you can get to the router with a wired connection, login to it's admin page and see if you see any errors. Also check for a firmware upgrade on the router.
With my old linksys router I had similar problems. Turns out that you can overwhelm it with connections and when it runs out of resources it's routing is jammed. Maybe you have some app on the a500 that creates too many connections and if your router is on the edge (e.g. your other computers are running torrent software) it might crash.
Or it could be a totally different problem .

Resolved, I think...
Thanks for your feedback!
It is Netgear wndr3700v1. The problem appears to be resolved by upgrading to the latest firmware (which has caused other problems, but resolved this one).
Although I've usually found Netgear to be reliable, they really dropped the ball on the 3700 routers. My four-year-old modem was more reliable and as fast. Unfortunately, I gave it away before I discovered all of the issues with the Netgear unit...

Tell that to my combo DSL modem / wireless / router I had before I got a Wii. As soon as the Wii was installed the router would do EXACTLY what the OP describes. I ran with the Wii unplugged for a week and it never crashed. Within 2 hours of connecting the Wii back to the wireless it would crash the router.
I disabled the wireless on the router and replaced with a commercial grade D-Link and had no more problems.
Just picked up my TF today, updated to 3.1
I have a main router at my house and two bridged repeaters (dd-wrt) sending the signal everywhere so I have coverage. Here is the strange issue:
I can connect via wifi just fine to my main router, but I can't to either repeater. The TF says I am connected, but the wifi symbols stays gray, and doesn't connect to the internet. Other devices connect fine to the routers, even my droid 2 global has no issues.
Anyone else experiencing anything like this? Strangest wifi bug I've ever experienced, i'm stumped.
I've tried the following:
Channel Changes
Open security
Router Reboots
Any advice would be appreciated!!!
just tried connecting to my dd-wrt for the first time reading your post, and it worked fine... I am running prime 1.4 if that happens to have anything to do with it.
Have you tried static IP on your TF?

A repeater? Or direct router?
I have tried static ip, no avail.
I also have an annoying wifi issue as well. When my transformer comes out of sleep it seems to be connected to the wifi but I can't surf the net. I need to turn-off wifi and turn it back on to make it properly work.
Using Prime ROM v1.4 and the wifi uses WPA.
I should have also mentioned, that despite being "connected" I still cannot visit the router gui via the TF's browser...

+1... I am annoyed with this as well...
mine is a bridge, with it's own ssid
still can't figure it out
I'm considering flashing to prime 1.4 to see if that will help. does anyone know if there are different wifi drivers on prime 1.4 vs stock 3.1?
thx
Have you tried flashing the latest firmware to you repeaters?

Same issue was happening to me on stock rom. I changed WiFi disconnect policy from "Never when plugged in" to "Never". The issue is now gone but battery goes a little quicker now...
Do you know if you have an access list setup on your router? Your access list maybe bllocking your tf from connecting
The first thing I would do in your case, OP, is to disable all security, mac filtering, passwords, etc and see if the Asus will connect or not.
I'm using Prime 1.4 and have no problems connecting to my wifi network using WPA2.
I have...
(1) - Verizon Fios - Main router - no wireless broadcast - DHCP on
(2) - Linksys E2000 - DD-WRT - wired ethernet to main router - broadcasting SSID - DHCP off
(3) - Linksys E2000 - DD-WRT - wired ethernet to main router - broadcasting SSID - DHCP off
Unfortunately, I'm not doing the wireless bridge repeater mode but I haven't noticed anything particularly different about the Asus's wifi.
My wifi is always on, I don't use any of the battery saving modes.
figured it out
After trying a bunch of various resets and google searches, it turns out that the only way for me to connect to a bridged router is by using static ip's and making sure the dns was set to find my main AP.
Its strange that i would have to go through so much manual setup, when all other devices work just fine.
