Backup and restore Sony Ericsson - XPERIA X8 General

Hi everyone, I've changed my rom because it was giving me some problems (WiFi doesn't work anymore even after the full wipe), so I've installed Kuyadroid. I remember there was an "hacked" apk of the Sony Ericsson Backup and Restore that worked with the roms. I had it in the previous rom and I did backup my sms, now I want to restore them and I don't find this apk. Any help?

unfortunately I have no access to my old data and the only thing I have is my latest backup with spf format.
any other suggestion?

always we keep a recovery backup..
The most important data is your contacts.. the other staff can you find manually
The only way is to flash again your previous custom rom install again backup and restore app and restore data with the app(maybe it will work on the rom you make the backup),and backup your data again but with other method..
Also look and this old thread
I think you can't restore the sbf file with other tool..but you can read it with a windows app(Google it)
The path of your sbf backup file is in: sd card/data/backup

Yes, you can. Just download Titanium Backup to backup all user apps (including settings) and restore them on your new build. By default Titanium Backup will compress them, however there is a setting to have them stored uncompressed which means that the apps themselves will be saved as apk's and the settings will be tarred/zipped (allthough theres no need to not compress them, if you use TB for restore). If you want to restore your apps, just backup your Titanium Backup folder from your SD-card, install the new build, install Titanium Backup from Market, start it once, exit, copy the entire folder back to your SD-card. Next time you open Titanium Backup it will show your backup and you can select individual or all apps to restore.

Try under Settings, Applications - check Unknown Sources, under Development check Allow mock.
Can also try Sideload Wonder Machine.
My AT&T had locked out non Market apps, took some time to get right combination.
try installing via PC using ADB command in cmd.

It seems to me, MyPhoneExplorer can do both things - I mean backup/restore and app install.

Maybe - it depends on the backup structure. Never tried complete backup, but it allows to chose its own format or vCard or vCalendar formats. So - possible, but I doubt, since it creates an image of whole phone file system - system and user data both.
I think, you can try a trick - to restore original backup/restore package by MyPhoneExplorer and then restore what you need from the backup you have. Original programs you can find in special thread 2.1 System Apps - In Case You've Deleted Them... or just try to download through your phone browser the newest original version of backup/restore from m.sonyericsson.com/backup.

Extract/Restore SMS/MMS, Contacts/Call Log, and Launcher Config. From Nandroid Backup

I was using Nexus S i9020T, CM7 nightly (a few weeks old) and for some reason I wake up this morning and couldn't get past the CM7 "blue circle" screen booting. I had about a month old backup but I didn't want to lose any recent data so I made a Nandroid backup.
Normally, to restore SMS or MMS from an old backup, one can just restore the nandroid backup, use a third party SMS backup program to backup the data to sdcard or gmail, restore or install new rom, then restore the SMS from the third party backup software.
However, in my case, I had a nandroid with data on it that I wanted to keep but that wouldn't boot.
So I did some searching and others have had this problem before but I figured I'd put it here for others that may have the same problem. I am not taking credit for this I just found various pieces of info around the web.
The solution is to use a utility called unyaffs. Unyaffs will need cygwin.dll. Yaffs is the file system that CWM recovery nandroid backups are stored in. Windows cannot read or mount this file system AFAIK.
Instead of compiling unyaffs for windows and installing all of cygwin, just use the attached pre-compiled unyaffs.exe and cygwin.dll.
Here's the process:
To restore SMS/MMS from a nandroid backup using MS Windows:
place unyaffs.exe + cygwin.dll + data.img in a folder
open command prompt in this directory (shift+right click -> open comand window here)
type: unyaffs data.img
the contents of the data.img will be extracted to this folder. wait for extraction to complete
browse to \data\com.android.providers.telephony\databases in the extracted folders
copy mmssms.db, mmssms.db-shm, mmssms.db-wal to sdcard
use root explorer to copy these three files to \data\data\com.android.providers.telephony\databases
To restore contacts/call log from a nandroid backup:
repeat above process for \data\com.android.providers.contacts\databases
To restore launcher configuration (only for stock Gingerbread launcher):
repeat above process for \data\com.android.launcher\databases
Note: Be aware that replacing the existing files with those extracted from the backup will remove the existing data so if you're not 100% sure what you're doing, change the names to mmssms_OLD.db or otherwise back them up before pasting the files from the backup.
Edit: Just thought I'd add, I also came across an app called AppExtractor but, despite the good reviews, the SMS/MMS restore didn't work for me.

Doesn't work for migrating from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich for some reason?
I am going to give this one a try.
To the OP your a dead set legend! thank you
PS: Where the bloody hell is the thanks button on this forum? I can't find it
I will give it a try. Thanks.
where do i find data.img?
I'm on an SGS I9000 and made an SMS/MMS backup using titanium backup when I was on Gingerbread.
Now I've installed the "Onecosmic's ICS Port Android 4.0.3 RC3.1" and restoring the backup file using titanium (only data) makes my message app FC.
Jarmezrocks were you successful when restoring your SMS/MMS on ICS?
Does anyone knows how to restore them? From titanium backup I only have an *.apk.gz and *.properties files.
Thanks for any help.
Cheers
Excellent.. saved me a lot.. thanks for the tool
Great post. I wonder if there is a file extrator in Android like unyaffs?
I found out that you can restore SMS just by using Root Explorer.
The location is the same, just that the files are these ones:
mmssms.db
nwk_info.db
telephony.db
I tried and it worked only using RootExplorer and I extracted the files from data.ext4.rar
Does this need to be done using ADB? I have set a nandroid backup from a GB ROM and flashed ICS on the phone; however when I extract the data.img using unyaffs and browse to the mentioned directory, there are no db files whatsoever.
Could the nandroid backup be corrupted for some reason?
I am looking at the data\com.android.providers.contacts folder and I only see a lib folder with nothing on it.
Hidden system files are set to show BTW
I did this yesterday using Titanium Backup for my SMS/MMS
You need to go into Preferences and check the *Migrate system data [Experimental] option
Then you go to More - Extract from nandroid backup
There it is listed as Dialer Storage
You can probably do the Phone log this way to but I did look for it.
I would recommend you do a current backup of [SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage before you attempt this.
Does this restore the whole smsmms database like with the sms.db file on the iPhone? I hate it when MyBackupPro has to restore my texts and the dates are all messed up and i've lost all my MMS'. And it restores them one by one, instead of just putting it in there all at once. Took me like an hour to restore everything.
I have an app for you.
I'd much rather save myself from all this tedious long-winded work and just use apk extractor to restore everything.

Thanks! Wish i've learned about this sooner. Would have saved me a lot of time.
This method doesn't work for me :/
I followed it exactly step by step but when I'm done and go to the Messages app, it's empty.
The same happens if I try it with appextractor or titanium backup.
I made the nandroid backup on CM7, and want to restore the messages to CM9+AOKP on ZTE Blade.
Thanks
THANK YOU !!!!
That was so helpful. I was migrating from GB to Nyx ICS RC5.0 yesterday and the application I used (super backup) failed to restore the Contacts.
Another app I used did that but missed allot of details (and also was damn slow).
I used your technique and it did the trick!!!
All data is there the same as I left it on CM7.2
You're the king
Thanks
[EDIT] just a correction Super Backup was able to restore the contacts but with missing details
It failed to restore the SMS
The other APP (forgot the name) restored the SMS (after ages) but contact associated with the SMS were completely messed up.
perfect

Cannot restore Titanium Backup from PACman to Paranoid Android

After Google Services drying up my monthly data cap trying to download 4.3, I thought I'd move from PACman v23 to the new Paranoid Android 3.92 as it had 4.3. I thought I did all the right things. I backed up in Rom Manager, copied the file across to my PC. I ran a fresh backup of everything in Titanium Backup and copied that all across to my PC too.
I did a factory reset/data wipe and flashed bootloader/modem/rom/gapps as instructed and got the latest Paranoid Android running. I copy across my TB backup directory and I install TitaniumBackup from the market place. I go restore missing apps, and then... it just hangs on the first app. Read a little online, change the restore mode to "Interactive", doesn't fix it. Go back to the normal setting. I run Verify Backups, and to my surprise, it says there are errors with ALL my backup files. I get pissed, decide perhaps I should've just created a flashable zip. So I say no problem. I'm persistent. I'll create a backup of Paranoid Android, reflash my PACman backup, redo my Titanium Backup, and then reflash my Paranoid Android backup and apply the TB backup zip. So I Copy my PACman zip file, choose Install ZIP from sdcard, select the PACman zip and boom... MD5 verification failed.
I realise I had some Titanium Backup essentials backup on Google Drive and Dropbox, so I copy them over. Point TB to that directory, but the same problem persists. It just hangs.
I've been copying across the same TB folder between various ROM installations with no issues, and I'm not sure what is causing the issue here. I suspect it is either the bootloader and radio (which was what has been the extra step compared to installing other roms) but I don't want to admit that now all my backups are completely useless.
Am I missing something here? Anyone have any suggestions?
TL;DR I can't seem to get any TB backups to restore on my newly flashed Paranoid Android rom.

I'm having the same issues. Best luck I had is to install the latest SuperSU(PA uses an integrated superuser) and then restore my apps one by one. Some work and others don't. It's a problem with 4.3/TB and SU which hopefully will be resolved. Most of my games worked but Nova launcher did not. I was also in indirect mode when restoring them.
You have to change the backups folder to storage/emulated/legacy in 4.3 to be able to restore your applications. You can change it in Menu/Preferences within TiBu.
I think I screwed something up before. Just did a factory reset, installed latest SuperSU and changed app installation to indirect mode. Everything restored flawlessly after that.

I installed stock 4.3, had to flash the latest SuperSU to get root, and found that all my Titanium Backup files were A-OK. Perhaps it is just a matter of the latest SuperSU and the TB workaround detailed on that link:
...Titanium Backup is an example of such an app. It may incorrectly detect the path to your internal storage for backups, and thus crash on backup/restore. You can fix this by going into preferences and selecting a folder under /storage/emulated/legacy as backup/restore path, not under /storage/emulated/0.

Thanks for the solution!! I've been trying to restore stuff for hours.
Happy I found a solution. I too spent way too long getting Titanium Backup to restore apps. And once I found this solution, implementing the folder change isn't just ticking a box or adding an entry. But all's well now. Really enjoying my first taste of Paranoid Android - lots of settings to figure out. I was having dpi/resolution issues with Simpson's Tapped Out and PA will give me several solution options. Thanks everyone!

This was much appreciated. I simply switched the backup folder location from /storage/emulated/0 to /storage/emulated/legacy instead. Problem Solved. No Rebooting, no installing SuperSU or anything. I've spent two hours trying to restore my backups (the one time, I forgot to create the flash zips with all my backups and the one time I didn't have space to create a Nandroid,) and now I'm good to Go.

Thank you. I've had a few reinstalls now where I've had to redirect TiBu to the "Legacy" path but this time with Carbon rom I also had to update SuperSU, then let SuperSU update the binary through CWM before I could restore anything.
Edit: Also if you're having problems figuring out how to change Titanium Backup's default path in preferences, your phone/tablet's Back button (beside the home button) will move you up through directories in the "select backup folder" dialog. This one had me stuck for awhile so maybe this info will help someone else.
Even changing it to legacy I am unable to get TiBU to restore. I have even made it navigate to the Titanium Backup Folder where I can see all my apps and system data backed up but it won't load it to restore for some reason.
Any suggestions?

Already had. I just set it up again from scratch. Wasn't that bad to be honest.
Titanium Backup was updated today to version 6.1.1. It uses the /legacy path now by default for ROMs using Superuser. You shouldn't run into problems anymore.

Try Migrate,it's similiar tool but kinda different,
backup as a normal ways,to restore your file you only need to flash your backup.zip on Migrate folder via TWRP, you'll need flash Magisk first, after phone reboot you'll get notification to restore all your file, simply follow the instructions
