[How To] Install Preware for Homebrew Apps and Patches - WebOS Software Development

You can install Preware on the Touchpad for Homebrew Apps and Patches. Although not many apps, but hey, get what we can get.
There are a few patches that you can installed to greatly increase the performance on the Touchpad.
1. Muffle System Logging
2. Remove Dropped Packet Logging
Instructions to install Preware: (by JCPDX at PreCentral.net)
............**.. Important Note:. Make sure to update TouchPad with OTA webOS 3.0.2
[ If you have already intentionally or in error setup the TouchPad's "Developer Mode" password and are having install issues. On PC, with TouchPad not connected, do a Windows uninstall of "Novacomd" AND reboot the PC. Next on TouchPad in "Settings" \ "Device Info" \ "Reset Options" Click on "FULL ERASE" bar to kill the password setup on "Developer Mode" then continue to step 1. ]
1. On your Computer, with TouchPad not connected, be sure to Download the latest version of Jar file "WebOSQuickInstall v4.2.3.jar" [Download from here] to a new folder.
Note: The installation of WebOS Quick Install is possible without having any connection to the TouchPad. This is my preferred method so that install issues can be more easily isolated and diagnosed individually on either the PC or TouchPad.
2. Continue on the PC and find the folder you Downloaded Jar file "WebOSQuickInstall v4.2.3.jar" into. Install it now by double-clicking on that "WebOSQuickInstall v4.2.3.jar" file.
If Novacomd file/driver is not yet installed you will get a message that the driver will now be "auto" installed.
After install has successfully completed you should get an error message box showing that no device is connected to webOS. Just leave message box up on the screen.
3. On the unattached TouchPad enable the Developer Mode to install your third-party software:
Using "Just type..." type out: webos20090606 - OR - upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart
Next Click on the Developer Mode Enabler icon that appears. The very 1st time you do this Click the "OFF" button to "ON" (w/blue button showing) if it requests a password Leave it Blank and just Click "Submit" bar. After that 1st time it will just put your TouchPad in Developer Mode to "ON" - Do not Click on the Set/Change Password bar.
4. Now using the included HP TouchPad USB cable connect Your TouchPad to the PC's USB port.
Next the question box appears on the TouchPad "USB Drive" or "Cancel" - Important - Just ignore it and leave it up on the screen. [This will be the same as putting TouchPad in "Just Charge" mode.]
5. On the PC click "OK" in message box you previousy left up on the screen and WebOS Quick Install should now very quickly recognize the TouchPad. You now have full access to webOS homebrew feeds.
Now Click on the "Globe" icon located below plus / minus on the right side.
WebOS Quick Install searches the default homebrew feeds.
After all feeds finish loading you will be offered several tabs (applications, services, plugins, patches, kernel, themes ...)
Just stay in the "Applications" Tab and type in the search field "Preware". Now Click on "Install" and it will go into the install processing mode.
After "Preware" is installed, if you do not want to install other things, you can now close the WebOS Quick Install and disconnect the TouchPad USB cable from the PC.
You should now see the "Preware" app on your TouchPad in the "Downloads" section ready for your use.
You now have WebOS Quick Install (WOSQI) on the PC and the Preware app on the TouchPad with access to homebrew AND most comprehensive collection of third-party software.
In providing these simple step by step instructions primarily for those new users of the TouchPad, webOS, Homebrew... my goal is that the number of users will greatly increase for all of the above which in turn stimulates creation of more apps, tweaks, and OTA for the TouchPad in our future...

after using webos quich install and turn on develop mode, Quick Install couldnot detect my touchpad,
my usb cable is connected , i try to USB driver for detect but i can't.
how to putting TP on "Just Charge" i see USB driver and Close on popup. i close it and try to click on OK button of quick install.

Finally using my TouchPad. Was bout to scrap it. Is there an updated link to WebOS Quick Install?

USB desktop connection driver issue [solved]

was struggling yesterday to connect mytouch to the desktop on windows XP. The phone connected to the moment, the drive showed up and when immediately disconnected.
I found this very helpful post on androidforums by pdl1 which I think needs to be posted in FAQ:
To connect an Android phone to a Windows PC, usually there are two steps:
1. Uninstall current Android USB drivers
2. Install new correct Android drivers
You accomplish 1 by downloading USBDeview to your PC here is the URL USBDeview - View all installed/connected USB devices on your system
Then unzip it and run USBDeview. Right click on each Android driver and delete it. Or you can remove traces of previous drives by removing all keys in registry using "Edit->Find and type in “vid_0bb4″ (no quotes)".
You accomplish 2 by going here Android 1.6 SDK, Release 1 | Android Developers
and downloading the whole Android SDK (software development kit) onto your PC. Extract it to a folder so you can look inside and find a sub-folder called usb_driver. Either move it somewhere easy or take careful note of it's exact location.
Now go to your Android phone. Open Settings. Touch Applicatons. Touch Development. Tap USB debugging to enable it. Then back out to the home page.
Connect your phone to the PC via the appropriate USB cord. Windows will open its New Hardware Wizard. Check that you will tell Windows where to find the files, and Browse to the location of the usb-driver folder. OK will ungrey and if you click it, the correct drivers will, at last, be loaded.
Almost finished. Now disconnect the phone, and repeat going to Settings>Applications>Development. Tap the debugger again to disable it. Back out to the Home Screen. Now connect your phone to the PC. It will be recognized, but in order to see and manipulate the SD card files, there's one more step. Pull down the little white bar at the top of the Android Phone screen. You will see a Notification "USB connected". Tap it and you will be given an option to Mount the phone. Touch Mount.
Now the any File Manager (Windows Explorer, etc.) will see your phone SD card as a separate drive. You can copy, move delete, whatever.
Quite a process, but once done, all you will have to do is connect the phone to the PC and pull down and Mount it.

Your Windows PC will show a notification that a device “APX” has been detected. If you get a
“Found new hardware” dialog box asking where to install drivers from - choose “list or specific
location”. If you don't get this dialog, open the Device Manager via System in the Control

Select the “usbpcdriver” folder inside the extracted Adam Recovery Kit as the driver location.

I'm trying to install the new update, but when i get to this portion of the instructions, I cannot for the life of me get the computer on Windows XP to recognize my device as a APX file. It's not even an option in the control panel in add new hardware. The computer keeps trying to recognize it as nvida harmony device

Also check out the GTAB forums, as the problems will probably be similar. I think Windows 64-bit and APX drivers may not play nice, for example.

Kogan Agora HDMI Smart TV Quad Core - Root Access

Hi,
So I have had a good experience with the Kogan Agora 7" a couple of years ago. I flashed a new ROM and my 6 year old still idolizes it. It's perfect for games and movies while traveling and cost bugger all.
I was considering getting my kids a console unit for games but came across the new Quad core HDMI Dongle. I though to myself there is the ticket, When traveling i could use it as a smart TV (plug and play is King) Or it may be possible to replace or augment my Media-portal HTPC system.
I bought one and on the face of it it appears to do all that I require from an Android device like web surfing, mail checking and video streaming fine, except when it came to installing the Playstation controller.
I needed Root access and it was a bit of a pain to get it done. BUT I found it!
I used RK3188_ROOT for CX-919 FW0715 MOD by Everal. found here.
1. Turn the device on
2. Make sure USB debugging is enabled
3. Connect the device to Win7
4. Start the file "TPSparkyRoot.bat" as admin
Enjoy.
So if anyone decides to purchase one of these to play with, you will be glad to know that it is a Rockchip RK188. Weather you think that hardware is good or not is irrelevant but it is useful to know as I tried many methods to gain root but once I had this bit of info it became easy.
Those infinity Pocket PC's may be the same although I can't be sure.
I managed to pair a sixaxis controller and am working on getting it running in a game. I will post if i have any more issues and or success.

Thanks for posting this info. However I'm not able to get this to work. My PC doesn't recognise the device when it's in "USB Debugging" mode. In the device manager it just appears in "Other Devices" as "KHSTVQCDONA". I've tried updating the software, selecting the "usb_drivers" folder containing drivers provided in the downloading Zip file, and also tried downloading the "Google USB Drivers" directly from Google, but Windows doesn't find the drivers for this device.
If I disable "USB Debugging" the device does connect successfully under "Portable Devices", but clearly that's not much use.
I can't seem to figure it out.
Below are the steps I took in trying to get it to work. I was going to write it as a guide for dummies, but I never got it working...
Download the software from the link above. On the "Share-Online" page click the small-ish button that says "continue for free", and not the bit "DOWNLOAD FILE (regular download)" button in the banner ad (that I feel very silly for clicking several times).
Once the file "RK3188_ROOT for CX-919 FW0715 MOD by Everal.zip" has finished downloading, extract it to a temp location on your PC.

Connect the provided blue Male-Male USB cable to a full-sized USB port on the device, and to a USB port on your PC. At this stage the device connects but is not recognised.
Open the Windows "Device Manager".
In the "Device Manager", expand "Other Devices", then right-click on "KHSTVQCDONA" and click on "Update Driver Software".
Click "Browse my computer for driver software".
Navigate to the "usb_drivers" folder of the software you extracted earlier, select it, and click "OK".
Click "OK". THIS DIDN'T WORK, stating that "Windows was unable to install your KHSTVQCDONA" and "Windows could not find driver software for your device".

Un-ticked "Verify apps over USB"
In "Security", ticked "Unkown sources", and un-ticked "Verify apps"
At this point I'm totally at a loss.
I had already started using the device initially, so I did a factory reset, but this hasn't helped at all.
Can you see anything I'm missing, or point me in the right direction?

Ok So I know i messed around with many drivers installing and uninstalling before it worked. I Thought it was the last set that came with the Root method but I may be wrong.
Also I cant remember exactly now but I am pretty sure if you activate the connect to computer you bypass the ROM and connect to the SD card and the U SD. So that would not help when accessing the root files.
Try re-installing the drivers after connecting without the box checked in settings or try the ones from super oneclick 2.3.3 or even the pocket pC ones. you may also need to uninstall the device then reconnect to get a clean run at it. Windows likes hanging onto what it thinks is the best driver even when they don't work or are completely wrong.
Also I ran the batch file form within windows not in console, Just right clock to run as administrator.
I have just used it for a couple of weeks in Japan get let the Kids watch Aview (iView) and it worked a treat. Also the latest sixaxis updates made the controller even better than before. I can probably have a tool around with it later this week but I am busy before then so wont be able to help any. It can be done!

Can you just confirm that you were connecting using the blue Male-Male USB cable, and not a USB-Micro-USB cable?
When I connect to the Micro-USB port it doesn't see a device at all. It just seems to provide power.
When I connect with the blue Male-Male USB cable, unless I have "Connect to PC" ticked, it also doesn't see a device.
I don't have a micro-SD card installed, but that doesn't matter right?

I am quite keen to figure out what is different but I cant access it for a couple of days sorry.
I definitely used a full sized USB to Connect, I may have used another one, and powered it from the Micro USB direct to power supply. If you are connecting it to the PC for power it may cause problems.
I know that you cannot access the recovery menu unless you are powering through the Micro USB only. Another thing I meant to mention in my original post. I may have posted it elsewhere.
SUCCESS! After I got the SuperOneClick software to forcibly install the drivers the device was then recognised and I could root the device.

Follow the prompts from here. The application should reboot your device several times (if not something is wrong), after which point you press any ket to continue. From here everything was very straight-forward once the .bat file completed the device was then rooted.

I had to do things differently......
Used rocketchip_batch_tool_1.7 for drivers, superoneclick didnt do anything.
I ran the batch from the folder on my desktop.
For EACH device re-boot i had to RE CHECK connect usb on cx919 settings.
I got a few errors about no more storage on my device when it tried to copy some stuff, although i have the super user and i tried sixaxis controller which requires root and it worked. Not sure what the files were.
update:
Hmm and it seems SSL websites dont work now as well as Netflix or the Store.
ill have to try something else!

did a factory wipe. all seems ok now.

Worked fine since then. All a sudden same prob, no Netflix no store. Wtf?
Just wanted to post an updated root method since i got one of these second hand last week
1. get the universal rockchip drivers, or the latest generic google ones. both worked for me on two different PC's. (including windows 8.1 x64)
2. Enable USB Debug mode in developer options. you know the drill.
3. the kogan device has a "USB" menu in settings, that has a 'connect to PC' setting. turn that on or ADB cuts out shortly after the system boots - turn it off after rooting for it to work normally.
4. connect PC to kogan dongle via the USB port next to the power LED. The other one doesnt work.
5. root with whatever method you want - i used kingo root which rooted it flawlessly first time.
6. have fuuuuun!
3 and 4 stumped me for days til i figured out what was going on. not something i'd ever encountered before, and likely unique to this device and why some people cant figure it out.

After using Nexus Root Toolkit cannot connect in regular USB mode

I have used Nexus Root Toolkit twice successfully on two different computer, but on both occasions that has left the computer unable to connect to the Nexus 10 outside debugging mode.
I think it is "Step 1" in the driver install guide that tells me to:
2.) Launch Device Manager using the button bellow.
- Identify whatever device resembles your Nexus and right click it
- Select 'Uninstall'
- Check the box for 'Delete the driver software for this device'
- Select 'OK'
3.) Unplug your device and Launch USBDeview using the button bellow
- Use USBDeview to uninstall any;
- Android ADB Interface device's,
- Samsung USB devices,
- Google USB drivers
- ... or ANYTHING else you see that resembles your Nexus.
- In particular look for devices with Vendor ID
- "18d1" or... "04e8"
- Simply right click these devices, and select the option to:
- "Uninstall Selected Devices"

After doing this i can no longer connect the Nexus 10 as usb drive or/MTP. If i connect it, it simply says charging, and the Windows device manager doesn't list any new devices at all. Its like it isn't connected at all. If i enable usb debugging, i can use Nexus Root Toolkit without problem.
The computer in question is running Windows 8.1, and i first installed the Universal drivers that didn't work, and then got it to work with RAW drivers.
I assume that something got uninstalled that shouldn't have been, but i don't know what. Any help is appreciated, i don't fancy reinstalling windows

[GUIDE] Bypass FRP Tested on 6.0

Hi All,
After seeming that I'm locked out of my own device for 72 hours, I managed to scour the net and use parts of other tutorials to successfully bypass the "you're device was reset, please log in" loop.
So I should point out I was running a Pure Nexus rom running 6.0 with a custom recovery, you're results may differ but you've got nothing to loose.
Pre Requisite
ADB and Fastboot - You don't need to spend an hour installing the whole kit, just visit http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html and scroll right down to the section where it says "SDK Tools Only" and click on "installer_r24.4.1-windows.exe"
Once installed the SDK manager will open, now make sure the top 3 are checked which are:
Android SDK Tools
Android SDK Platform-tools
Android SDK Build-tools
And also scroll down in the list to find Google USB Driver
Once all of that is done download the latest Google USB drivers (although the SDK installs USB drivers it still shown an exclamation mark in device manager") http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
To install those USB drivers just go into device manager and if you se Nexus 6 under "Other Devices" just right click and click update driver software and then click browse my computer and get it to scan the Google USB driver folder you downloaded.
restart your phone into recovery (Volume Down and Power button)
now again in device manager make sure the Nexus 6 doesn't have a yellow icon identifying there's a problem with drivers or that the nexus 6 is listed in other devices. If either of those are present right click and update drivers > browse from computer and select the Google USB drivers you downloaded previously.
Bypass FRP
With all that confirmed restart your Nexus and leave it on the Welcome screen.
Now, you need to get into platform tools which is located:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools
if you can't see AppData you need to enable hidden files and folders
once in platform tools hold SHIFT and right click any blank space and click "Open command window here"
then type "adb devices" and it should list your nexus under devices, if it doesn't open device manager and check your drivers.
If it does show your nexus execute this command which edited from another source:
"adb shell am start -n com.android.settings/.Settings"
Your nexus will now open the settings menu =] in settings go to "Backup & reset" then click "Factory data reset" (although it says it wipes user data, mine was untouched, I can't say the same for so you may lose some data if you proceed)
your phone will reboot and in my case it opened my custom recovery and executed a script, the phone will restart again and go to boot, hold the power button to force shut down the nexus and boot into recovery mode. In recovery mode flash a ROM, if you don't have a ROM download one on your PC and then connect your Nexus to your PC via USB and copy it over.
Once the ROM is installed you won't get the "you're device was reset" screen.

this does not work, because in order to adb devices to populate anything you would of had to enable usb debugging from within the phone, and if you're locked our from FRP, you cant access the settings to turn on the usb debugging
Bootloader LOCKED .. and asking for gmail ID ??
