Is there a Sprint PRL that doesn't slow down roaming 3G? - Epic 4G General

I notice when I use a Verizon PRL I can download 3G speeds at my place at about 600Kbps. When I use a Sprint PRL and roam it is always around 100Kbps and the ping is very high, usually around 1000ms.
Sprint coverage at my house is terrible, to the point where I can barely send text messages. Verizon works great though, I even get 3G working here at reasonable speeds.
Now the problem with the Verizon PRL is that I can't get back on the Sprint network and I am always roaming no matter what. At work Sprint service is fine. I have roam control which is awesome but it would be nice to roam and have good data rates too.

yes there is
(dont try and flash the zip you have to write the PRL with QPST)

That's the one I'm running now. Maybe it is just connecting to a different tower than with the Verizon PRL.

Oh, wait... I'm using 01115 for a PRL. I will give that one a go. Thanks

yea that gave me 3g speeds (didnt run a speed test but it was fast) but my wireless signal kept dropping....
other prls give me 1x and I get about 6-15kbytes/sec download xD

yeah on roam control ping with verizon is ~1000
im in the same situation.
If i do the QPST thing, how easy will it be to revert back to my sprint prl? Because like you, i would only need it while im in my house.
Step RIGHT out the door, BOOM 6 bars. Its like my house is lead or something lolol

11115 and roam control is a beautiful thing!!

if you roam a lot, and consistently, don't be surprised when you contract gets canceled

Ninja prl update?

I updated my prl a couple days ago, and though the version number didn't change (60671) my phone is much more roam friendly. It used to never switch at work, now it's jumping over pretty quickly. Anyone else having better roam coverage?
I've noticed it to.
I cant roam at all. For some reason when i try and tap into verizons towers I get a cannot authentice your accoun recording when i try and make a call.

I don't know about prl update, but I noticed that my 3g down bandwidth dropped by about 50% to 1.3mbps this morning...
may not be related but i had the same issue verizon can't authicate till i loaded the wired tether hack then all of a sudden roaming works.
might be worth a shot
I make frequent trips to a rural part of South Carolina , I have noticed better signal reception in Verizon areas where as before I got (no service) .

[Q] Roam Control?

Anyone successfully running ROAM CONTROL on Syndicate Frozen Rom? I cannot get it to work whatsoever. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, but the software does not respond to "force roam". Wondering if its a compatibility issue with SFR.
i'm using it and it works flawlessly.
make sure you pick samsung in the settings of roam control.
I'm on SRF 1.1.1 if that matters.
working for me (on 1.1.1), perhaps clear data? or re instal? did u select samsung in the settings?
Are you in Texas? I contacted the roam control guy and he said that it won't work in Texas
Works for me, in Texas.. just depends on the ROM.
I'm in northern california. Samsung was selected as well. Ill try clearing data. Will thank all that contributed once I get on my computer, can't do it using xda app.

this has been covered ad nauseum...
Sprint's roaming agreement w/ Verizon is for 1x data only, not 3G
there 'may' be a workaround/PRL hack but you'd have to search more for that answer because I just don't have it and I'm not gonna do the searching for ya

This.
It all depends on what PRL you're using. There is a PRL out there which will enable 3G roaming speeds, but few phones have it. You can manually update your PRL, but Sprint will usually roll you back within 24-48 hours. I've thought about manually updating my PRL, then freezing the service which allows it to be rolled back, but haven't gone through with it.
Reason being, I'm in Chicago and forced roaming on Sprint doesn't work in the Chicago area as stated by the dev of the app.
Works well up in Wisconsin, but not around here.
There's a thread somewhere about updating your PRL...search for it and read through it. That will tell you everything you need to know.

I've changed my prl over two months ago and they.switched me back to sprints after about 3 weeks. I chanced it back after, to what I wanted and haven't been switched back at all. Maybe the roll backs are location based? A lot of people say they get forced back to a sprint prl but I never do

Now an unpleasant surprise from Sprint

EDIT: Signal improvement went away... see followup post below.
Original posting:
---------
Meant to post about this two days ago, and got busy.
I've been one of those with near zero signal in my home neighborhood. I live in Scotts Valley, near Santa Cruz CA. Since I got my Epic last October, I have been extremely frustrated that I get 0/1 bars at home, the signal is too weak to be usable for phone calls (constant digital dropouts -- conversation is impossible), and of course pathetic data rates when I can actually get a connection, which ALSO is never reliable.
When I bought the phone, a tower within sight of my home on another ridge was scheduled to get a Sprint site before the end of the year (2010), according to their website map. Then, this upgrade disappeared. I called, and no one knew anything, of course.
I've been roaming on VZW, who have a 4/5 bar signal here, via Roam Control ever since I got the phone. Fine for calls and text, no data worth speaking about.
Woke up two days ago, and was at first mystified, then thrilled to see 5 solid bars on Sprint!!!! 3G data rates consistently 1100/750 down/up!!!
Apparently, they finally got around to upgrading their coverage in the area. 'bout time
4G? Don't even go there. Not yet, not expecting it... Ever.
Wow my 3g speeds are 200 down max and I have no 4g
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
In a way, I have Sprint's poor coverage in my hood to thank for me needing to root and get acquainted with XDA. Otherwise no Roam Control. But it would rock to get a similar upgrade around here. Zoning and landscape just make it really unlikely. If I go just half a mile north or west it's totally different, with 4G and all. Hell, I can watch Netflix over 4G at my office, just not where I stay. I hope your story is repeated far and wide.
I've had the same experience as you. I've been with sprint for 11 years now and my signal is now amazing at the house. 2600 kbps dl, 550 ul. On average, of course. They upgraded the tower nsar my house last year.

UPDATE: After some joy, Sprint decided to turn off whatever they did. Back to 0/1 bars here at home, inability to use voice without constant dropouts, no data to speak of...

that's more true if you use a load of data. I use roam control for voice and text constantly because my apartment is a dead zone, and I use my wireless router for data, never got anything about it from sprint

That describes me. At home forced roaming so I can actually make and receive calls, data over wifi.
With the RC tasker plugin, phone automatically switches between forced roaming when in range of my home network, then back to "automatic" when out of range.
It's a workable solution, but not something I should have to do.

This may be a bit off topic, but I roam ALLLLL day when I'm at work, it gets me quite angry, and I continue to use data and phone while I "roam" , and saw a charge for roaming one time but called sprint and asked them how the **** I am roaming within my coverage area. They fed me some BS but took the charge away. I've never seen a charge for roaming since. Do you guys get charges?
So far as I know, with my family 2 phone everything plan, roaming is included.
Edit:
I just looked, it doesnt say roaming anywhere, but when looking at changing my services, the only roaming option given is Canada Roaming.
Edit 2:
Found it.

First, the border to where? Mexico, Canada, Cuba, Alabama, native Sprint coverage?
Second, the only AT&T towers your phone could possibly use are up north near Montana. They are formerly owned by alltel, 11114 should enable EV-DO access to these towers. All other towers are GSM and will not work with CDMA phones. The only reason the old Alltel towers (which are now being used by AT&T) will allow your phone to use them is because they are Dual-Mode GSM/CDMA hybrid towers.
In most (99.999%) cases AT&T towers can't be used by any Sprint phone.
EDIT: except maybe blackberry bold, HTC touch pro 2 and the Motorola Photon because they are GSM and CDMA phones (hybrid).
i will be goimg to mexico ok now so the 11114 prl is that all straight roaming or am i ok should i switch back... my cousin was on att but it was on roaming the entire time, if it cant be done then what is recomended for me to try to get service outthere i just dont want to be stuck buyn another prepaid phone outthere thats all..
11114 and 60680 will give the same international roaming.

11114...it will even roam on networks not listed in the prl unlike 60680. Or activate a world phone such as the photon so you have the best of both worlds..cdma roaming and gsm.
Another thing to keep in mind is the Epic will not roam on the PCS band...they still haven't fixed that issue. So if there is cdma only in the pcs band you will not get any service.

Letter of warning from sprint concerning roaming.

Gosh, got a letter of warning from sprint yesterday. For a couple of months I'd been using the .00001 hack to use Verizon's network. A couple if weeks ago I switched to a normal prl.
They sent me a letter explaing that if ididnt trim back my data roaming, they would shut off my phone. Having done a cost comparison, I can't afford to switch companies. I'm on a sprint employees plan that was linked to sero. Plus the other folks don't allow unlimited data anymore.
Just wanted to give a caution to those of us using the prl hack, they are watching. Thankfully I'd made the switch before I even got the letter and now have roaming blocked with cyanomod v7
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You are lucky that you only received a warning. There are plenty of reports here from people that were not given a choice to terminate service with Sprint. They most defiantly keep a lookout for excessive roaming.
I wonder if it matters on location or how you use their data. I used to do a lot of roaming and never got a letter like that.
Also do you mind linking me to the roam/prl hack?

I actually asked a Sprint rep if i could force my phone to roam permanently on Verizon and what the repercussions were. She asked me kinda stunned, why would you want to do that? I told her so i could get the data speeds that sprint can't provide. She told me that they would catch it immediately because many, many people are doing that.

I've been using the 0001 PRL and my speeds have improved a decent bit. I seem to be able to buffer Netflix and play an online game like Galcon with less noticeable lag.
The sad thing is, right when I got the EVO 4G, within the first few months, Sprint's 3G speeds easily beat Verizon's. Verizon's speeds are good, but not great, but Sprint's network has been so congested that it merely offers mediocre speeds for me now.
I also don't get voice signal with Sprint at my new place, whereas the Verizon prl gives me signal.
I'll just switch back to a Sprint PRL as soon as I get a warning letter.
I switched back because I didn't see a noticeable speed difference in my area.
