How to Root 10.1? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Hi guys,
Just got my 10.1 tab the other day and I want to go techie on this gadget. I also have the first gen Samsung Tab but never bothered to root it because I was so busy. But I guess now I would gladly take the time in rooting this 10.1
Any useful links on how to do it?
What are the advantages and disadvantages?
Thanks!

[Q] Hello? Hello... helloo heeellloooo (echo)

Is anyone going to develop/cook roms for the Thrive? Is anyone hacking or modding it or are they all over on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1?
Thanks to Dalepl I now have a rooted Thrive and as soon as the Kernel is released by Toshiba I would expect great things for this tablet, it will happen fast as soon as the kernel is released!!!
thanks guys... of course nobody wants to buy the one that nobody uses. I like to think the galaxy sheep regret not having a USB port and other nice features we have.

Galaxy Tab. Buy or wait?????

Hi folks!
So, my question is:
Do I buy a Galaxy Tab 10.1 or do I wait a bit more so I buy a next generation Galaxy Tab with quad core and stuff (are the releasing it soon?).
Galaxy Tab 10.1 will receive ICS?
What would you recommend?
I know there is another post about this problem. But the answers were from June. I want to know now in November. What do you guys think?
Thanks!
If samsung can assure you that when you buy a 10.1 you will not get one with the "newton rings" then buy it.
For me I would not recommend samsung......sorry folks.....

What you want to buy is totally up to you, but as for updates, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 *will* receive the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, which will bring a whole heap of new benefits.
And there will always be people like bongski who may have had bad experiences, but rest assured that of the three Samsungs I've bought, I've never had a problem with one.
Also, for future reference the Galaxy Tab 10.1 does have its own forum here on XDA.

I agree. As much trouble that I have had with Samsung support is just amazing. I had the battery problem and finally had to open up my tab and disconnect the battery to fix it Samsung knows about this problem and should have had a recall. This does not bid well for Samsung.

I agree. Read all you can from the xda 10.1 forum particularly the problems encountered, then make your own decision.....
Thanks, guys!
Sorry, I didn't find the 10.1 forum....
I think I'll buy it!
plenty of newer tablets coming out... just wait a bit... personally, i WAS holding my breath for the tab 7.7, but i passed out...
Some if not most 10.1 suffer lag and you will probably need to root and load custom roms. I have my brothers tab and have not rooted it yet and I can't stand the lag. Sometimes I feel like I'm back to single core. I think for the most part its Honeycomb combined with touchwiz. I'm gonna give it back to my brother and wait for the Transformer prime with quad core. I'm sure ICS will fix most of the lag but I don't know if I can rely on Samsung to get ICS anytime soon. I also don't like that it doesnt have an sd card slot.
For now Ill be using my Samsung 7 inch tab till the prime comes.
Buy now or wait for the new technology? Well, if you always wait for the technology you'll never buy anything!
I'd wait and see if Samsung get over their Ipad cloneing phase...
Not that the 10.1 is a POS ipad but the fact that you can't put in an sd card and have more memory is a little too apple for me... That was the most compelling thing about the GTab, it had expandable memory...
I don't see the point of getting a more higher powered beefy machine that uises apps that are 2-5 times more memory dependant on installation and having NO memory to use, not to mention songs, movies and ebooks... What was Samsung thinking?

Android 4 for.tab?

Figured I would try here....ive searched google and I cant get I answer...some say no...some say yes...some say mybe...
Android 4 is a deciding factorin what tablet I will buy next weekend..
I woot root my tablet so interested in offical one
Thanks
I don't understand what you're asking ???
I think you're asking if there's going to be an official ICS update, which there will be sometime in the first half of the year. Why you're on XDA and against rooting I have no idea but you can always return to stock if you ever need to return it or have it serviced. and try proofreading next time ...

Well you definitely didn't search google too hard, I found a source in a few seconds. So yeah, Samsung has stated that Galaxy Tab 10.1 will get their official version of ICS (supposedly in Q1 2012). http://androidadvices.com/samsung-confirms-ics-40-galaxy-s2-note-tab-101-tab-77/
I would seriously recommend you to look into rooting and booting up a custom ROM, they are usually WAY better then what Samsung offers us (if you're worried about stability and similar stuff, CyanogenMod has been around a long while and has had over 1 million(!) user installs to date. So it's definitely a good and stable ROM).

Galaxy tab 3

I picked up a tab 3 today, just wondering if its been rooted yet, anybody know?
COngrats on your tab 3 but you are in the wrong section. This is TAB 2 sections.

I know but there is no Tab 3 section
Just curious. I saw that they recently released the Tab 3. What does it have over the Tab 2 besides a home button? Specs seem almost the same.
The main differences between the two are the processor 1.2Ghz and the 1.3 megapixel camera. It also has a nice alluminum bezel, micro usb port and the home button. Other than that not much difference.

yep, they dropped the funky charger, micro usb port like you said and the entire body is less wide--my screen protector from the tab 2 hangs off on both sides.
looking forward to a new section!!
Tab 3 7.0 rootable yet?
Do people able to root the device yet? Can we use the same method as the tab 2 7 ? Will it brick or anything?
Unless you see a specific root instruction for your device, do not try anything.
No matter how similar tab2 and tab3 are, they are different devices. Just wait for the new section for your device to be created.
Stop bringing your questions here, cuz we can't answer them. We all have tab2. How would we know?
There are probably dedicated threads for nexus 7.2 but nothing for our tab 3 yet. My 8 will be delivered tomorrow. Can't wait to root and debloat.

I'm just like you, can never wait for these type of methods! They should sell these also as "rooted version"..!
I just got mine 3 days ago, so far no big problems just an occasional hang-ups when i open several apps....

Im curious. Those of you who purchased the Tab3 7 inch. Are you upgrading from another 7 inch tab? What tab is this one replacing?
I am upgrading from the tab 2 7 inch just because they were out of stock on a return. wish I hadn't the tab 3 is no big difference, the stock rom is bloated and yes, the internet gets dropped when idle for me too.
I got the 8". Replacing a 1st gen Kindle Fire - tired of being restricted to the Amazon App Store etc (and rooting of course takes away the instant video and free kindle book prime benefits) . Also have the Galaxy S Blaze phone and very happy with it which led me to the Tab 3. 8" is a really nice size for use as an e-reader.
On both the Tab 3 and my S Blaze, I had trouble keeping WiFi connection when connected to my N router (I run one G and one N b/c I don't have a dual-band that will maintain the N speed and we still have some G only devices). They stay connected to the G (Linksys) with no problem. Never investigated further as it doesn't make enough difference for me to care. Something to think about.

No, because I haven't had that tablet since early Spring 2016; I gave it away around then. The person I gave it to just threw it away for some reason--or so they said. Oh well. I don't have any tablet right now. My current phone is a rooted US Snapdragon Samsung Galaxy S8+, but it's a shame the US Snapdragon S8/S8+ bootloaders are currently unlockable. Honestly, I sometimes wish I just got an Essential Phone, but that screen is definitely smaller. Never again will I buy a phone that doesn't already have an unlockable bootloader!
