Sleep of Death...but only after a good nights sleep - Thrive General

So I got my thrive yesterday and I love it, out of all the tabs out, it just feels like it is the smoothest, graphically and strongest, hardware wise. I haven't had any problems until this morning when I woke up and tried to wake up my thrive, and unfortunately it would not wake up, so I had to do a hard reboot by holding down the power button until it shutdown, but it booted right back up. So here's where I think I went wrong, I turned on the GPS yesterday and didn't know I had left it on overnight, thought it would turn off when you stopped using maps, for what reason? I don't know why, but I did. Either way I think that there are certain programs that cause problems with the sleep of death, and that's the reason it may have happened to me. But if anyone has any ideas as to why this happened, then I would like your input.

Actually, GPS is not active unless an app is accessing it. You can leave it on. As for the SOD issue, Toshiba released a fix today and it should fix it.

Thanks, and I got that update, it fixed it.

Tablet is dead, what a piece of crap

Well my transformer lasted almost a week. Now it won't turn on. Lame.
I think mines is as well...
Good...everyone wanted to know!
Seriously??? I really am wanting one. They sounded so good.
Is it dead because you tried to root it and throw Roms at it or anything like that?

Had mine for 3 weeks, no such problem.
You know you'd get more help if you explained your situation rather than just talking like an emo kid.
maybe if you explained what you have tried? Have you tried holding the power button in for 10 seconds + then turning on? Have asus confirmed that the unit is a dud?
Mine is fine as well. Got it on release day
Mine is still working fine. Had it since 7th April. Have you tried any software modifications? Dropped it? Of course it could be bad luck as every consumer level device has a small % of failures.

mine sometimes randomly turns off i think. It takes awhile to get it to power back on =\
edit: i haven't actually seen it turn off though so maybe something was just pushing on the power button or something
I've had mine rarely stop responding to the power button after being left a long time (overnight or such).
Hold power down for about 15 seconds to turn it off, then wait a few seconds, then turn on again as usual. It's early adoption of a new OS, there's gonna be some bugs, I'd hardly call this a show stopper.
i had mines since US launch and its been fine. I had to wipe the OS cause of setting VTL LAuncher as default wont not log into the lock screen,(after shutting it down) other then that its fine.

Samsung GT 10.1 Sleep of death

Sorry about posting the thread here as I couldn't post it where it needed to go. I have had this GT 10.1 for a few days love what it can do but It continuously wants to go to sleep and not wake up. This is a locked rooted 32gb version.
I have noticed while it is in the dock it tends to only lock up on the home screen and it solved by just removing it from the dock and inserting it again into the dock. When its not in the dock it does the Sleep of death and If i plug it back into the dock while is SoD it will come back to life. I don't have any idea if this helps with your deductions on dealing with this bug. But I thought It could help somehow.
I didnt plug the dock into any power source either.
Well I tried doing the above now its boot looping DARN I REALLY like this thing
after the 3 or 4th SoD the OS got garbled and I had to do a factory reset and reload the OS using ODIN and back to Stock.
Gonna remove the OC kernal witch I had loaded and reload the STOCK OS until its fixed.
I have this problem, my tab 7 days old is dead... I was using it, turn it off connect it to charge it and it is not working now..
Is there any fix or way to get out of the sleep of death?
the asus transformer forum says it's fixed with 3.1 (mostly).
i guess it's the reason why the EU release is delayed permanently.
guys i dont thing there anything wrong with the tablet. i believe its the wall charger.ur usb on ur pc or laptot is not ready to charge ur tablet but it will at a slow rate, really slow.i tired charging it with the wall outlet n it would not do anything. called samsung thay wanted me to send it in for service.i said no.i have it charging with my laptop.that work for me.give it time to charge and u'll see it charging.the cable is good its the big box that plugs in to the wall thats bad.

Mine wouldn't turn on for the life of me yesterday...exchanged for a brand new unit at best buy....wtf!
Mine does the "Sleep of death" only with custom firmwares and when charging on the media dock...going back to stock fixes the issue...to wake up the tablet I had to make a combination of Power + Volume Down for several seconds until it finally turns on...
Mine was stock. No combination of button presses worked for me
Same with mine. I just shipped it back for repair...

You just need to hold down the power button for 15 seconds, or so. Maybe 30. I've had this issue a few times in the few months I've had this. My bigger problem is the Wake of Death. The stupid thing turns itself on for no reason, and never goes back to sleep, so the battery is almost dead when I go to use it. This happens a few times a week. Drives me crazy.

same here...my first one died...my exchange unit randomly freezes, but the volume and power button works, unlike the first unit

Great its frozen

Running fine for a day, then suddenly when i looked at the screen it was at the "Asus" screen (with the logo and spinny thing below) - i touched the screen and it froze.
And now its frozen.
And I had just charged it...grrr - do i really have to wait 12 hours or however much it takes before the battery is depleted.
I wonder if there is a way to reset it.

Happened to several guys.
Did you try to press and hold power for ten or more seconds? It should power off and you should be able to power it on again.
this is happened to me 3 times so far.
Hold the power button to power off and reboot.
For mine after it boots it'll run ok for a minute or so, then run horribly slow until the launcher crashes. after the launcher starts back up it'd be ok.
Did you hard reset before the OTA? Where you stock, stock rooted, cwm flashed? Just trying to get more info.

We are having way too many threads for the same issue...
Mine still experiences the problem after a factory reset.
As everyone mentioned, holding down the power button fix it temporarily.
Someone else reported that you can avoid the random reboot problem by disabling deep sleep using no sleep widget, although it's a crude walkaround.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Just an idea but what if you use something like SetCPU and up the lower frequency. Had this issue on a kanged ICS rom for my phone. It wasn't the deep sleep that was the problem but the lowest frequency was too low to re-initialize the apps that were cached once you woke it up.
I did a full complete wipe and updated from .13 to ICS and am not going to jinx myself by saying what I am implying. If you know what I mean.
Interesting, and I do agree that there are too many threads, since I am trying to get some idea of how common this is. I think I was the original poster on this, but in any case in my particular situation I tried holding the power button down, resetting it through the reset hole, and holding the power button in while pressing the volume button down (this did give me the option of reformatting which I tried) but in every case it simply flashed the eedpad screen. The battery finally appears to have died and I'm trying to recharge it now, but so far it is now completely dead. All of this happened after it went into deep sleep. This tablet is 100% original, never been rooted or tampered with in any way so, unless this is a coincidence or a combo of ICS and one of the apps I have in it, I expect this to become a very common occurence. Anyway, I'll let it charge for a bit and see what happens. I already have an RMA (the service person didn't seem too surprised and didn't really try much trouble shooting - when I asked if he had heard of this before he kind of said I wasn't the first) so I'm sending it back to Asus on Monday so that when I get it back I can sell it, but I'm just wondering what percentage of people are having this problem. Heck, if it's even just 5% Asus is going to have a major expense on its hand.
I had the dreaded Asus logo freeze twice now, since the ics update. Both times when I wasn't using the tablet.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Mine has frozen 2x already since the ics update. I performed a factory reset before and after the update.
Screen just goes black/blank and would have to hold the power button for 10secs.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Hey thanks, I thought I had pressed power down for long enough - but apparently not.
I was on normal HC and just accepted the update when it prompted me for it.
But if a lot of people are seeing this i guess Asus made a little blunder in this version.
I just came in after leaving my Transformer asleep for about three to four hours, and found the asus logo flashing on for a few seconds and then off, repeating over and over. Had to do a reset with power and vol down to get it to reboot. Seems OK for now except it really drained the battery.
I guess there will be a few ICS bugs to work out.

Yea seems like the TF only goes crazy when it's in sleep/not being used.
Mine is not rooted so I don't really want to go through the trouble changing processor frequency.

I thought it's the mic too... Does your voice record still work after you "reset" your TF?...
Edit: Saw the dreaded Asus loading screen again when I came back from dinner... 3rd time today... It's getting on my nerves a bit now. Such a pity that the TF is perfect besides this issue... I don't care if it reboots every hour or so, as long as it doesn't hang and depletes the battery.
Just to clarify, and so others don't break their microphone,THERE IS NO RESET HOLE! if your device is frozen, hold the power button to reset.
Are we certain its the deep sleep causing this?
Didn't happen to me this morning. I stopped using it around midnight and woke up fine the next day.

How do you it didn't happen? It doesn't get stuck at the ASUS logo for me, it simply reboots. Try leaving something open, like a browser window, turn off the screen and come back sometime later. If it's back to the homescreen and there are no recent apps, then it rebooted.
I don't know if it is the deep sleep that is causing it. All i know is that the bug is only triggered while sleeping. Every logcat i get stops at an AlarmManager event, before the reboot.

[Q] NC will not do anything

This is my first nook. I did some trading to get it. It had cm9 on it when I got it but it a tad laggy so I put mirages cm7 on it using from manager. It has been running great ever since and today I put it on the counter(battery was around 60%) I took it to my room a little later to charge since I have to work tonight but before I plugged it in I tried to wake it up but the screen would not come on. It will not do anything at all. Never owning one I have no idea how to diagnose it.

Welcome to the Sleep of Death - I have this happen occasionally too.
Hold the power button for ~10 secs, the screen will get noticeably darker when it actually turns off. Let go and press for another ~8 secs to cause it to reboot - you'll get that distinctive flash from the back-light.
I find this happens more often when I leave the wifi on and it goes to sleep, so I'm pretty obsessive about turning that off before sleeping the nook.
What ROM are you running? Stock CM7 or Phiremod / Mirage / etc.?

I sit with mine on my desk while I work and Ill sometimes look up and the screen will be on when I know its been locked for a while. it doesnt seem to matter if its plugged in or not.
I was thinking it might have to do with my ROM (paranoidandroid) but if other people are experiencing this it might not be.
its an app or process waking the device. or a bad power connection that connects and disconnects(if plugged in).
Mine isn't even unlocked or rooted... soooo who knows what it can be lol

I'm having the same issue, but only when my N7 is being moved (even gently!). Several times, I've manually put the device in standby (with the power button), or I let it idle and then go into standby, but when I pick it up, the screen turns on. I haven't noticed the screen turning on while it's sitting still on a flat surface, but then again, I haven't really hawked the device while it was sitting still. This wasn't an out-of-the-box problem. It just started happening on my 3rd day of use.
Anyways, this gets pretty frustrating when I have my tablet in my bag or pocket. I checked to make sure I wasn't accidentally hitting the power button to wake the tablet back up by putting the device on standby and then gently tilting the tablet. That was enough to trigger the screen to turn on.
The power button doesn't appear to be visibly loose either. (My tablet doesn't go into standby when I jostle it, if that matters?)
By the way, I haven't really moved my N7 while charging, so I can't verify whether or not this issue occurs during charging as well. But I guess I can rule out charger issues. Maybe something's loose?
Side notes: I AM unlocked and rooted; did this on day 2. Haven't gotten any new apps between the time my tablet last acted normally and the time when it started turning on during sleep (during day 3).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Might be the smart case magnets. Putting magnetic stuff near the screen turns it on.

This almost always is caused by a rouge app. Use watchdog (there is a free version in the market) this can help pinpoint what app is misbehaving. Also, if possible try to get a logcat of this, of course if it feels random it may be hard to capture the information needed but if you do you will no exactly what the problem is
Oh and as a side note, wakelock issues can happen to nonrooted phones/tablets just as easy as with rooted ones

No one find the solution yet? In stick and rooted and having the same problem.
Why is the door on the right always locked?
Fully updated stock not rooted on 4.2.1. I first noticed this issue after updating to 4.2. Screen wakes every 3 to 5 minutes and stays on for @30 seconds each time. I left it sitting on the couch next to me while watching TV last night.
So it is affecting the stock ROM as well.

Spolier alert! This is the plot of Paranormal Activity 5. Possessed N7s. At the end it turns out it was iOS the whole time. It would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for us meddling XDA folk.
Serious note I have had this happen before and as previously stated it was a rogue app accessing background data.
