[Vent] Sound levels - XPERIA X10 General

Hoooolllly cr*p. The volume in the X10 is totally unacceptable! I had an appointment today I was waiting for a very long time and I set up 3 reminders/alarms. They went off. but I heard not a single one! Appointment missed, pushed back another month.
What is the point of an alarm function that you can't even hear!
All my volumes are set to max. I can't hear text messages going thru, I can't hear notifications going thru. My ears are fine, the phone whispers. God it's driving me nuts.
I've never had this problem with any other phone, could hear those things a mile away. Am rrreally starting to lose faith in something I can't rely on.

The x10 is a complete failure.
Bad GSM radio.
Bad audio.
Lack of hardware features.
Great cpu, camera and sexy screen let down by everything else.

I second this. Sexy shell, but lousy internals.

Dunno what to say.
Mine is set to below halfway and it wakes me up just fine. Sure it's not the loudest phone I've ever had but it's more than acceptable (even without xLoud for most things).
BTW, did the snooze function work? I mean, if 3 alarms were set and if they kept on going, then they keep on coming back on every 10 minutes (default unless changed).
Maybe your loudspeaker is busted? Did you ever try any of the roms with xLoud?

Have mine set up with xloud and latest dsp manager app, combined, my phone now has the same volume as my friends galaxy s2, just about. However the speakers will die soon at that rate I expect. But my contract is up in 4 months so I dont care if I kill it!

You must either be a heavy sleeper, you're going deaf, or you have a defective phone.
I have my alarm go off on workdays at a bit over half volume and I can hear it no problem.
Seriously, all this X10 bashing is incredibly old.

Another question.
Was it an alarm or a calendar reminder that you were using? The reminder function for the calendar just uses the SMS tone.

xLoud is your friend. Huge difference with it opposed to without, just use some common sense though.

"bad gsm radio" !!!!!!!!!!!! You must be crazy.....SE has the best gsm radio in the these companies....or did you forgot that whos making the gsm radio and antenna is Ericsson itself....btw...ericsson is the best in the bisness.....plus did you forget that the x10 is a 2009 phone....its old...dont compare it to today's phones.....also the sound is just fine...i hear my phone ringing from miles away.........god damn.

with all due respect, I still don't get why people **** so much about the speakers.
Maybe I've been lucky, I don't know, but I don't have any issue with the sound.
Granted, you need to put an appropriate ringtone... you won't here anything if you put a ringtone of rainfall
That said, If I had to complain of a similar functionality on the X10, it would be the phone's vibration, which I feel is very week compared to my old SE W810i.
I'v gone over three X10i (hugh...thank god for Orange France's insurance) and all have been exactly the same for me. No sound issue, but ****ty vibration compared to my old phone.

Just a thought guys and gals but it also depends on your ring tone. IMHO i find most of the standard ones a bit dull, but i found somefree mp3's and midi's online and the other morning when my alarm went off i nearly hit the ceiling! even woke up the girl
Pvy.
Here is my alarm tone. give it a go see if it helps

Personally phone speaker volume, vibration, hardware...I find spectacular. Phone speaker is exceptionally loud without dsp manager or xloud or any other programs. Vibration intensity seems to be fine for me. Hardware...I don't understand what is wrong with it...perfectly good to me...and GSM and WIFI work perfectly...always have H signal RARELY I have to use 3G I mean RARELY...maybe like for 2 minutes in a month. Always have phone signal...btw I have ATT. ONLY issue for me is SONY not providing proper phone SOFTWARE. GB update was a tad disappointing from their kernel, 16 mil, fps uncap, and everything else... was not a well done job.
OK...the IN-CALL VOLUME is something that bothers me; the only hardware related gripe. It is extremely quiet...barely can hear person on other side...when in average loud environment. BUT I suspect that with DSP Manager installed the IN-CALL VOLUME could be louder.
I am using "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" for ringtone/alarm.
I am using "Altair" for notification.
Your phone might have an issue. OR you...haha; deep sleeper.

Anyone know what the best option is, dsp manager or xloud?
The main thing I need is call volume clarity. I tried some versions of DSPManager.apk but they didn't seem to make a difference... Tips?

Aaah, the w810... probably my most favorite phone that i've owned. That phone had one hell of a speaker for its size.
I don't mind the vibration of the X10i. Yeah, it's a tiny-little-bit weak but it's good (really good IMHO) and really comes down to preference. I like how varied the vibration can be (mild, medium, high). I came from an N85 and that had only 1 setting: seizure. That thing would vibrate like nuts at anything. On a scale of 1-10, it was at '11' all the time. LOL

I find the speakers to be satisfyingly loud enough with xLoud. I use the Beep-Beep-Beep sound for alarm. never fails to wake me up.
Vibrations on large phones like this are hard as it's absorbed by the phone's weight itself but i find it rather pleasant to have than annoyingly skidding over the table.

I am running both, but if you just want one take the dsp, gives you an equalizer to adjust for clarity of sound. Yesterday someone posted a brilliant version of dsp in wolfs 2.3.3 thread. The apk is in a rar file so just use root explorer to install it
The sound is noticeably improved

Turn on 3G in a location with low signal and charge it, now browse online and watch the battery heat.
Don't cheat by putting the phone in LN2 first. try it in a nice 27*C summer ambient heat.
And tell me it's awesome. you can cook food on it. and the battery goes dead in 1 hour from there on, you can cook some meat by then and make some coffee on it.
Then once the power circuits have completely nuked you can use it as a paper weight.

people using xloud should be careful.....
mark my word, people are going to start blowing their speakers. You can hear it cracking/getting damaged.

IN Call Volume is still low, if you are coming from Nokia or Samsung, you will feel too low.
With Earphone, it is great. Loudspeaker is normal.
Still o ideas... :-( previousely, I has got Xperia X1 and for it there was fix made and it really played louder..... I know that x10 is different platform, but I' sure that root access will help us to hear more

I too am sufferring from low volume on the phone. I particularly notice it when I am on a call without earphones. Haven't used the earphones yet. This was the case before I rooted. I have 020 + root and it is still the case like someone else in this thread wrote. Would be glad to find out if this can be fixed.
PS: coming from a NOKIA N95
If you change the gain on the /system/etc/AudioFilter.csv file on a rooted ROM it should change the volume/make the sound a little more distorted. There should be some info online about that.
maybe try the louder volume hack although its not a free app..

There is a certain issue with the incall volume although to me it is not so big problem. Of course I wanted it to be louder. There is no issue about the phone getting hot. That is my opinion and experience so far!
In my opinion, the volume at its highest setting is loud enough for me to hear people while walking through busy Japanese train stations, but then again, it does take some getting used to. You have to hold the handset to your ear in a certain way, or it's kinda miffled.
I never take the phone out of vibrate mode, so I can't comment towards the speaker's volume. Seems on par with the iPhone 4, when it comes to playing music.

"Klick" Problem after Speakers go off

Hello together,
i donĀ“t find a similar Thread for the One with my Speaker problems. So i start a new one:
I got the following problem:
When i play a Sound with my Phone after 2-3 seconds the Speakers do a "klack" Sound in front of the shut down.
example:
When i press Volumen + or - the Phone plays a Sound, around 2-3 seconds later the Speaker do a "klack".
the problem seems for me similar with the problems the Galaxy Nexus got.
Someone can confirm that?
I get that with my Nexus 4 and almost every other Android phone i have used. I can mostly only hear it if i used some sort of volume boosting mod/app or if i hold my phone close to my ear after a sound is played. I think its normal, but annoying.
Wow, i thought i was the only one. I have the same issue. After playing a sound file (ring tone, music, anything), if you put the speakers to your ear you can hear a shhhh sound, then a "click" which almost sounds like the speakers "turn off". For some reason the same sound sometimes appears when opening a music app (such as HTC Music), as in the speakers get turned on OR some sort of amplifier gets applied. Turning off beats audio doesn't help. I got O2 (germany), 1.27 Stock rom. I'm tempted to try 1.28 custom rom to see if it's a software bug, but i am a bit afraid i might need warranty to get this fixed...

It's audible in a quiet environment when i have the phone close-ish to my face. Question is whether it's fixable via software update or whether i need hardware fix. I don't really feel like sending it in already...They'd probably say it is within tolerance anyhow.
I just wonder, tons of ppl complain about stuff such as "corner is too sharp, tiny gap etc", why don't more people complain about this noise if it is "normal"?

Opinions on Call Quality?

Received my one a few days ago and other than not being able to remove the power saver notification I love this phone.
I do have one concern though. I'm not sure it's a problem but what does everyone think about the call quality? Comparing it to my Sensation it almost sounds like the person on the other end is speaking into a cup.
I haven't had a new phone in quite some time so it might just be something different.. or it might be a problem. What's everyone's opinions?
ATT version here on their network and I think it's the best call quality I've had on a phone, I've used the Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 weeks before this aswell so, *shrug*

i have spent about 70 minutes talking on the phone since i got it yesterday afternoon, didn't notice any call quality issues. comparing it to galaxy note 2, nexus 4, and iphone 4.
Compared to the iPhone 5 on iMobile - night and day. HTC is superior.
good question. There is a lot of hissing going on at times. discussed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235800&highlight=hissing
Hope it gets sorted, this could possibly have the worse call quality I've ever experienced.

I had that phone and the call quiality was awesome, so it must be a problem in your device.
Assuming they are using what Nokia uses then it should be quite good.
Me too, compared with iphone 5, HTC one is realy good and loud
Thanks for the replies. When my local T-Mobile store gets them in stock I'll go in and try and do some comparisons.
To remove power saver notification just long press on the notification and go into the app info and force stop it! This will only stop the notification from appearing and will not stop anything else!

I use my phone extensively for work, and sometimes I take calls in the office (very low background noise) and sometimes in the loading bays (where there's always some sort of moving/construction/drilling etc). Today, while in the loading bay calling up a vendor, the vendor on the other side of the line commented that there were "like no background sounds" and asked me if I was in the office.
This is coming from a Galaxy Nexus, and I've been very pleased with call quality so far.

Bad Speaker? crackling... :(

Hi all. Just got my Moto X Pure few days ago. But I noticed that my speakers are cracking at certain sounds. Specially playing the ringtone "Zeta", crackling occurs. Not clear. Does not happen with every sound. Thinking its a defective in my phone. Can you test yours playing the Zeta tone and let me know. Thanks!
I can achieve the same crackle playing that tone ONLY at max volume. I tried different audio settings (balanced or bassboost or off) all crackle at MAX volume.
Thanks. But my does not matter if its in max volume. Thanks for the reply. Moto X Pure, Returning....
PS; My Moto X2nd same ringtone, NO Problem at any volume.

I posted on the official forums about this problem and already got one reply: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/c751a88e77?commentId=981431
I chatted with Motorola support and they had me run through some TSing steps: Reboot, clear cache, factory reset
The chat support couldn't look up my IMEI for some reason, so they gave me a case number and have escalated it. I should get a call in 24-48 hours.
I'm not sure if I even want to return it if this issue is widespread. No sense in returning only to receive a phone with the same problem or perhaps MORE problems.
At Max it does have some crackling but at one step below it doesn't, and it's still better than the next best thing you can get, due to it's front facing speakers. Remember it's a phone. Spend money on a wireless speaker or headphones, this isn't supposed to be your personal boombox.

That sounds an awful lot like "you're holding it wrong". I've owned a lot of Android phones and none that I remember had it this bad or even close.
If Motorola doesn't want me using the phone that loud, they should not allow me to increase the volume that much. They may simply need to lower the gain with a software update. Until I know for sure that pretty much everyone has this problem, I'm going through Moto's support channels for a resolution.
Looking at the mixers_path.XML file, the gains do seem to be rather high.

I have not tinkered with that file or the settings within before. A quick Google seems to suggest that screwing with those settings can cause similar distortion. Sounds more and more like something they'll have to tweak in an OTA.

It may be the eq settings. Do you have it enabled?

I have had it enabled as it comes enabled by default. While troubleshooting this problem I discovered this feature and disabled the EQ in the sound settings menu. It mitigates the crackling but doesn't make it go away entirely.
Sorry if it's happening ALL the time even at low volumes but just about any speaker system cranked up to full volume will snap-crackle-pop unless you are running very expensive speakers with very powerful, clean amplification! I mean come on...can we even call what they put in a cell phone a "speaker"?? Maybe if you were the size of a grasshopper you could call them "speakers"!

None of my other phones do it. This isn't a budget phone either. Hell my Moto G doesn't do it.
So is this happening on ALL these new phones...(don't have mine yet...it's being shipped right now) or is this just happening to a random few?

Moto staff have noticed the thread and verified that even their phone does it.

YUK...I hope it doesn't bother me! While this is not my first Moto phone it is my first unlocked "almost" vanilla Android phone. I really want this thing to be GREAT!

If this issue is so wide spread WHY DIDN"T EVEN ONE REVIEW say anything about it???? Did they all get different phones? Is this a batch issue like we have seen on many threads about many phones like the S6 scratch debacle?

Probably because it's easy to miss. It only seems to happen at max or near max volume and with only certain sounds. It might also only be 10% of the phones or something have it. It would be very easy to have one of the 10% and not notice unless you're looking for it.
It's not a huge deal at all... don't get me wrong. I'm particular about my phones though, so it is enough for me to consider looking elsewhere.
I tried to capture it on video, but it doesn't pick up well. It is worse in person. https://vid.me/tavk
Well I couldn't hear anything bad through my laptop with headphones on so I hope it is tolerable. TY
Well for me, I have to bring the volume down 4 notches so theres no rattle. Another thing I noticed is that when choosing a notification sound, between each choice, theres crackle and pop coming from my speaker. Weird. Also, rattle is from top speaker only. Seems like for ringtones, the phone uses both speakers, but only through the bottom for notifications. When playing music, even at maxx volume, i don't notice the rattle. Well, as much as I love this phone, i think I'm returning it. Since its a widespread problem, maybe the next revision, they "will" install different speaker. Guess the wait for N5x begins for me.
