How to retrieve contacts from backup. - EVO Shift 4G General

I recently had to get my phone replaced because it was having weird issues and they gave me a new one. To my sadness it came with the latest update and I didn't know that hasn't been able to get a perm root.
My contacts were never fully synced with google so all the new ones I had are gone. I had just made a titanium backup recently but it was on CM7. I tried to restore just the contacts from it but it kept making the phone crash.
So my question is, is there anyway to get the contacts manually from titanium backup or any other suggestions?
Thanks

You could temp root with method from the thread link below. Then use your contact backup from Titanium Backup.

Yea I have tried doing that once before. Once I did that though I kept getting force closes over and over, I had to do a factory reset to make it stop. I'm not sure but I think its because it was on CM7 when the backup was made.

Rooting and Backing up Phone

This is my first Android phone, so I'm not sure how the backing up procedure works. Is there a way to back up all settings and apps (including paid apps) so I can restore it afterward?
I've rooted my phone when I first got it, through the unrevoked v1 method. Updated when Sprint gave me the option. Found out I shouldn't have done that, as I lost root access. I've been reading threads on how to set my EVO back to stock and hopefully this will restore everything. Thereby also being able to root once again.
If it means, I can root which method is recommended to also receive the latest updates.
I hope that I didn't lose root access for good.
Also curious, don't want to have to reinstall all the apps and lose the paid ones.
This has been a big question for me too.
Never rooted or modded a phone at all until yesterday, just made my first post here a minute ago.
I rooted and unlocked nand with simpleroot, then installed the damagecontrol rom, everything went ok. Got a lot of help by watching the video links. The biggest thing I was after was the wireless tether, which I have now. I've flashed the rom a couple time since and loose all my apps, contacts, and history every time. I get the contacts back easy through google sync. The apps I have been able to reinstall, the market has remembered my paid apps and lets me re-install no problem. This is still a hassle though. After doing some reading it seems people are using Titanium backup for the apps, and handy backup for the call history. I just installed and backed up everything, haven't tested out the restore yet.

Think it worked... but have one question regarding missing contacts

After 2 days and near-unbearable annoyance, I was able to root the phone just using Visionary, Root.sh, and the cyanogen update guide (for Rooting phone)---and without a USB cable -- only using ADBwireless, once I had temp root.
One issue though.... Since I did a hard reset perhaps 10 times, following each hard reset I had to login to gmail as if I was setting up my phone. One option this process asks you is to allow google to backup your data. I always left it checked.... and didn't think much of it.
However, now that I am rooted again.... and just flashed CM 7.1 (RC1), I notice that I have about 7 out of 80 or so contacts....
The only thing I can imagine that happened is that everytime I reset the phone and signed in with my gmail address, it backed up the contacts on the phone, and for whatever reason, only those 7 made it to backup.
What is confusing though is that I had wiped the data cache several times in the past, and every time I re-signed into gmail to start setup on the phone, all my contacts were intact.
Also, the nandroid backups I thought I had.... CWR -- once it boots into recovery says there are "missing files" where my backups once were. I don't mind this so much as I am running CM7.1 and can download all my apps, etc.... But I thought those backups might contain my contacts...
Anyone have an idea where I might be able to restore those contacts... My sd card is the same one as I had before this whole mess started.... I would think titanium backup or something would have these contacts.. I can't really even think about losing 60+ contacts.
Nevermind. Its all good.

best way to backup before factory reset

Hey there, i have my phone rooted, i have installed the OTA update, and i have slowly removed some bloat through titanium backup.
i am still experiencing quite a bit of lag, and want to factory reset my phone, then see if that helps. i want all my data to stay though, can i just back it all up through keis? or is there an easier way?

I personally use Titanium Backup Pro (if you haven't bought Pro yet, it's totally worth it - it has saved my @$$ countless times!). I Haven't actually uninstalled any bloatware, but frozen plenty of it. This made it really, really easy to get the OTA installed - all I had to do was unfreeze the 3 magic APKs that let me install the OTA, and even kept the rest frozen. Re-froze when done with OTA.
I have two sets of Titanium Backup backups right now:
- A backup of all system apps plus data. I would never want to restore my system apps, unless I get bored and start modding stuff later. I figured I'd just snag a backup NOW in case it ever comes down to that - I'd be able to theoretically restore a single broken APK, or manually extract the apks out of the backup files later.
- A backup of all my user apps plus data. Be careful not to ever restore system app backups, even the "green" or "yellow" ones in TiBu. Rarely, you can get away with restoring these (like SMS, or WiFi access points, or sometimes even the System Settings), but it's usually asking for trouble. If you're going from the same ROM to the same ROM without any version change, it's usually "okay" to try. Otherwise, use extreme discretion and be prepared for weird behavior.
So to answer your question, I would recommend using Titanium Backup Pro to keep data backed up. If you're thorough and have the patience, you can effectively backup all of your data, individually, for all of your apps and your system settings. I'm actually planning on doing a data wipe for good measure (haven't done so yet since I got the OTA), and this is how I plan to restore all my data and settings.

Huawei Ascend G700-U10 - Titanium Backup - Restore SMS - Stock ROM

Hi guys, I've got a Huawei G700-U10 which has stock ROM installed, with Android 4.2.1 (never installed an update, as far as I can remember).
I never messed with the phone. But did root it, so I could use Titanium Backup (payed version) on it properly.
I used Framaroot to root it, with SuperSU.
Backup were running smoothly. But few days back the phone didn't boot up at all.
Seems to happen a lot with this phone, it went into a bootloop.
Tried a few things to get it back up, but nothing worked, so decided to do a factory reset.
As I did have my full device backups (on ext. SDcard), I thought, there wouldn't be any problems.
So I did a factory reset, by pushing the Volume up + Power button.
After that the phone booted up and I installed Titanium Backup on it.
To my surprise the phone was still rooted...(?)
I can restore everything else besides the SMS history. It seems to restore a part of the SMS history and then stops, with the error:
Data restore failed for "Messages (SMS & MMS)".
Checking the SMS app, I see that only a part of the history has been restored.
I tried to make Titanium Backup the default SMS app, but that didn't work.
Do you guys have any idea on how to get a full restore of my SMS history.
It doesn't have to be restored on the phone itself, it can be a text file for all I care.
Any help is appreciated :fingers-crossed:

Lost all my SMS/MMS when I let Google setup restore most recent

I wiped my phone and installed a new rom for a couple hours, received one text during that time. Then I wiped again, installed a fresh AICP rom, and let Google Setup restore my most recent backup from the cloud. It only restored the one message, and I lost a couple years worth of messages.
Is there a way to restore my messages from the cloud backup, to a certain point-in-time?
Thanks!

If you go back to stock and restore that backup you should get all your messages. I had the same issue on ROMs that sms was not restoring. Even though Google does a pretty descent job backing up I use sms backup and restore also. It's free and can backup anywhere (google drive, device, email etc.) That way you never have to worry again.
