Search for GSM UNLOCK HD2. If you are on T-Mobile call them and request unlock code - it's free. If you got your phone on ebay used or somethign they may not do it - therefore, you need to pay around I think 20-30$ to get code from ebay -0 then you'll be all set.
BTW - HD2 will have only EDGE speed on AT&T network.
If you can get Samsung Vibrant or Galaxy S 4G - both of those can be unlocked and do support 3G ATT network.

So how would this work on android?

You obtain a code (buy or get it from T-Mobile) then insert At&t sim card into your phone, turn it on and it will ask you for it...

HD2 T-Mobile version...Will it work on AT&T 3G?

Out of the box, will the US T-Mobile version out this Wednesday work on the AT&T fast 3G network by just poping in the sim card already set up for 3G use? If not why not?
Look at other threads, and do your research. I won't give you an answer, because its easy to see.
in a non mean way, nope. only edge.
unfortunately not, since tmobile uses a diffrent 3g band than att means you will be without 3g service, so you can only use EDGE (which we all know is not good) however you could put the phone on your wi-fi connection, and you will need to unlock the phone before you can use your att sim, (call tmobile and tell them your moving out of the country to london, its what i do )
with EGDE ... no 3G

You have to have service with them for a while before you can unlock phones.
or take it to a repair shop and they can unlock for you. usually like $30

Find a friend with T-Mobile, buy the phone, ask them to ask cs to unlock it for them, since they are "Going our of town" or it "says sim locked, please enter sim code". Either will work, since they will happily oblige, id try the 2nd one first since its more of a I need the code for the phone to work type of thing.

US Streak in EU?

I've done a bunch of searching on this and can't find a thing; I know there are certain restrictions on the sims (locked) but that's as far as it goes.
I may be going to Greece (from US) for 2-3 months and am about to buy a Streak here in the US.
Can I use the phone there without having to go through AT&T's "overseas plan"? Can I, for example, use a Vodaphone sim or any other for that matter while I'm away?
Thanks for the help.
EDIT: Almost forgot to ask, what type of speed do I expect compared to ATT's 3G?
Short answer: no, you can't. When the phone is sim-locked, you can't use any other sim cards than att-sims.
Slightly longer answer: you may call att once you get the phone and tell them you will be staying with att, but you're going to greece for 2-3 months. they may send you an unlock code (see the other recently updated unlocking thread). i think you also have to buy the full priced version from dell, not the one with an att subscription. i just sent them a fax with a proof of purchase, because they needed to know the price i paid for the device... good luck!

Seems like you have personal experience with this sort of thing.
So basically, buy a phone at full price and then maybe att will give me an unlock code?

Not true.
I've had att provide me with the unlock code for many devices that I paid the subsidized price for.
What you have to do is call them and request it, have your devices imei # available. once they tell you that they can't access the unlock code or whatever the issue ask them what your options are and if they don't suggest to open a case then request to open one. They'll take your email from you and you should get the code within 2 weeks.
Remember to be polite and when they offer you the international roaming package, just kindly deny it and say your more comfortable with using a local sim card. Also good to say that your going overseas for business so they take you nour seriously.
As for the data speeds, find what frequency the network in greece uses then compare that to the streaks
Good luck.

Why don't you just buy a rebel ii sim card?

1. calling att is cheaper?
2. changing sim cards often when using rebel sim ii is a hassle
3. rebel sim is not a true unlock, and it complicates everything..

Yeah! shutting the phone down, removing the back, taking out the battery, taking out the sim, sliding in the new sim, replacing the battery, putting the cover back on taking all of 5 valuable minutes at the start and the end of your three month tenure could really bring a man down

Can you, or can you not, use any sim anywhere within the developed world whilst using a rebel ii sim? Yes! so why is it different from any other unlocking technique

well, it's different in that you phone is still locked to a provider.. have you read any other threads about rebel sim? until rebel sim released the new firmware for their sims, 3g did't work properly.. as i said, it complicates things... i just punched in my 8 digit code i got from att (called them on friday), and the streak works like a charm with my (uncut) norwegian sim card..
guys, calling Att is for the US sold ATT devices. I'm pretty sure, but not 100%, that they can tell from the imei if it was sold via dell.com in the US or not. If not i don't think they'll issue you the unlock code, unless the unlock code generator that LBK Tech for At&t has doesn't distinguish the imeis

unlocking t-mobile G2

Anyone know how or where to unlock the new G2? I want to use it with ATT LOL
Is there a method or a website I can get the unlock code?
Thanks!
Ps. I had the samsung captivate but the gps and lag on that thing made me return it. That's why I bought the G2.
You do realize that it won't work on ATT's 3G ; only EDGE?
Also, you might want to wait for the NA version of the Desire Z going to Canada ; you might pick up one of those since they have the 850Mhz band used for ATT's 3G.
About the unlock, you will have to wait for the phone to officially launch all over, and then unlock codes should pop up soon on eBay and other such sites.

Yes I'm aware that it will only work on edge.
The disire z is running sense which I don't want. I want as much stock android 2.2 on the phone. Besides the discontinued nexus one, this is my only choice.
Thanks for your reply.

Or.....if you're an existing T-mobile customer you can call them and request the unlock code.....That always seems to be the easiest way.
Yup, if you've bought it from them, and have been a customer for quite a while, just tell them that you need the unlock code since you travel a lot, and they should give it to you.
I see your point about being totally stock, however, some users have flashed the G2 ROM on the Desire Z with no hiccups, and thus getting Stock Android.
would you guys say that t-mobile can give me the unlock code even if did not buy the phone from them? lets say i bought it at best buy. i do have t-mobile account for my brother. but i bought the g2 full price from best buy.
As long as you have an account they should do it.

have your brother call them and tell CS that he bought the G2 and is planning an international trip and wants the unlock code. Simple
you should buy a desire z and flash a vanilla ROM on it so you'll get 3G support. Why get a super nice smart phone and only use EDGE?

You don't even need to say that. Just say you want it unlocked--you just need 40 days of active service. Check T-Mobile's SIM Unlock policy, it's the first hit on Google for "T-Mobile SIM Unlock".
Well my brother has had his account for over 5 years already. Well try calling and ask

stupid question but....
I don't get signal in my new house, but my friends on verison and att do. If I unlock my sim, does that mean I can use those towers when i don't have signal, or does that just mean I could switch my carrier and keep my phone? I had a rooted G1 and when I traveled to my mom's house who's town did not have t-mobile yet, I was able to use thier local carriers signal, I didn't know if everyone could do that, or if it was because my phone was rooted or what. anywho, sorry for rambling, but if someone could kindly make me less stupid be answering my question...

when we say "Unlock" we mean that you can put any simcard and the phone will pick up signal depending on the carrier.
if there are no towers near you, if you have roaming enabled, your phone will roam using other towers but they may charge you for that as far as i know.
Just called Tmobile to unlock
They said I could, that they would give me the code, but that the G2 is still not in their system, so they can't request unlock codes for this phone.
They asked me to call again in a few days.

[Q] Samsung Slate 7 - Developer Version

The Developer version of the Samsung Slate 7 uses an AT&T sim card. Wondering if it will also work on Tmobile, or if you need an unlock code, or if there is an unlock code. I would really prefer to give my business to T-Mobile. I probably won't use it often, but since it is there .. may as well have a sim card in it... Or maybe I should just get a pay as you go card for AT&T .. Thanks for helping ...
There will probably be an at&t one and an international unlocked one

You can call Sprint and have the SIM card officially unlocked. If you are a new customer you have to wait 90 days before they let you do this though, if you're an old customer it shouldn't be a problem.

From what I understand Sprint has to do something on their end to unlock the SIM. It will only work on overseas networks too, they aren't unlocking it for domestic networks.

Sorry, I didn't know about the Blackberry. Maybe because Blackbaerrys are somewhat unusual devices they made an exception. In any case, that would make it the only Sprint GSM device that I have ever heard of that was capable of operating in the US. All iOS and Androids have always been blocked for usage in the US. That said though, there have been hacks to some of them which enabled US use, though sometimes at the expense of not being able to use the device with CDMA while the hack was in place (meaning they couldn't be used on Sprint).
Hello, guys.

Yep... it was a fruitless venture.
it would be great if we could get the sim unlocked for domestic use.
I'd be happy with unlocking it for non US GSM providers at the moment, I find it ridicules that I have to wait 90 days after having the account with Sprint for 2 years. It is a new phone and I need to travel now.
Anyways if there is any way to unlock it I'd like to know.
