[CF-Root-S5830 3.7 b80] For Samsung Official firmware 2.3.3 KPN (released July 13) - Galaxy Ace S5830 Android Development

FIRST THINGS FIRST: WARNING - FLASHING A FIRMWARE, CUSTOM ROM, MOD TO ANY PHONE IS RISKY. WHAT YOU HAVE HERE IS THE SAME RISK AS TO EVERYWHERE ELSE. SO FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Thanks to the efforts of Ketut.Kumajaya, Samsung's latest firmware release of Gingerbread 2.3.3 KPN can now enjoy A2SD, ext4 filesystem and all the benefits of CF-Root.
This guide is as newbie friendly as possible. If you want the short instruction, this is it: Flash CF-Root 3.7 b78, Have Clockworkmod recovery, Flash CF-Root 3.7 b80 (so that everything is compatible to KPN). If you want to apply apps2sd and ext4 filesystem, you can do so.
Here's the newbie friendly guide -
What's New in 2.3.3 KPN?
Lots of bug fixes
Smoother firmware
Faster modem
New option in power menu (Network Data)
What's the difference of 2.3.3 KPN to 2.3.4 KPH?
2.3.3 KPN is an official Samsung firmware release dated July 13, 2011 while 2.3.4 KPH is a leaked firmware dated June 2, 2011.
2.3.3 has lots of bug fixes including the Wifi SOD that plagues a lot of Galaxy Ace users. If you don't want your phone to turn off for no reason at all, go 2.3.3 KPN.
2.3.4's only advantage is the video call on Gtalk. If you don't use this feature, might as well go to 2.3.3 KPN since 2.3.4 KPH doesn't have the bug fixes of KPN.
Requirements before flashing CF-Root to 2.3.3 KPN
2.3.3 KPN firmware - http://www.multiupload.com/Y643XGWMMN (password: sampro.pl) OR http://hotfile.com/dl/124821364/f954487/S5830XWKPN_S5830XWKP6_S5830OXXKP7.rar.html (password: samfirmware.com)
Odin 4.38 (download from below)
CF-Root 3.7 - b78 (you will flash this via Odin later) - http://www.multiupload.com/KZII7KZEKV
ClockWorkMod Recovery (you can flash the CWM from CF-Root 3.7 or this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168417 )
CF-Root 3.7 - b80 (this will ensure that CF-Root is compatible with 2.3.3 KPN - download from below)
Optional - Both added in CF-Root 3.7 download - http://www.multiupload.com/KZII7KZEKV
CF-Root-S5830-ext4-v1.3u-Addon (if you want an ext4 filesystem)
CF-Root-S5830-dtapps2sd-v1.1-Addon (if you want apps2SD - you will need to format your SD card with a Fat32 for 1st partition and ext4 for 2nd partition if you want to use this.)
FLASHING 2.3.3. KPN to your Phone
Download the firmware - http://www.multiupload.com/Y643XGWMMN (password: sampro.pl) OR http://hotfile.com/dl/124821364/f954487/S5830XWKPN_S5830XWKP6_S5830OXXKP7.rar.html (password: samfirmware.com)
Flash via Odin as shown here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15949239&postcount=22
STEPS: HOW TO FLASH CF-ROOT TO 2.3.3 KPN
If you have downloaded the required files above, then move on to this. If not, download the files first.
STEP 1 : Flashing CF-Root 3.7 b78 through Odin first
Open Odin
Put the Cooper_v1.0.ops file in OPS and the CODE_S5830XXKPH_CL260130_REV03-CF-Root-v3.7-b78.tar.md5 at the PDA
Put your phone to download mode (press POWER BUTTON + HOME BUTTON + VOLUME DOWN simultaneously)
Connect your phone to your PC (ODIN will detect your phone if it's on download mode once connected.
Click Start on ODIN.
Put your phone to download mode (by pressing POWER BUTTON + HOME BUTTON + VOLUME DOWN)
STEP 2 : Have ClockWorkMod Recovery as you Recovery - follow the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168417
STEP 3 : Flash CF-Root 3.7 b80 through ClockWorkMod recovery
You need to do this to make sure CF-Root is compatible with 2.3.3 KPN because these are the files that will make sure that everything is working for 2.3.3 KPN after flashing.
Go to recovery mode (Press POWER BUTTON + HOME BUTTON simultaneously)
Choose "Install zip from SDcard"
Choose "choose zip from SDcard"
Choose CF-Root-S5830-v3.7-b80_boot
When done, press "Reboot".
By now, you have CF-Root for you KPN! You also know now how to flash via Odin and via ClockWorkMod recovery.
You can now install the following if you want to:
Install CF-Root-S5830-ext4-v1.3u-Addon.apk
Install CF-Root-S5830-dtapps2sd-v1.1-Addon.zip via recovery mode on CWM Manager.
If you install the ext4 manager, you can convert all your phone's file system to ext4.
If you choose to install dtapps2sd, make sure that your SD card has been formatted like this (First partition FAT32, Second partition ext4 - 512mb partition size for ext4 is enough and the remaining of your sdcard is fat32 - yes, fat3t should be bigger. Your media, pictures, music, videos will be placed in the fat32 eventually)
Also, if you choose to install dtapps2sd make sure that you check "DT: Auto Start" in Tweaks manager and apply the changes.

Finally!
Hey, thanks for sharing to us. By the way, where is ketut.kumajaya (the creator) ?
One question: is that flashing b78 before b80 really necessary?

Hello kabayan. Is it okay to flash this rom from 2.3.4 kph to 2.3.3 kpn? No risk? It will not be a downgrade right??

Flashing is already risky. Whether you flash an official firmware, mod, custom firmware, it's already risky.
It's the same risk that you will take everywhere.
Anyway, to directly answer your question, you can flash directly from 2.3.4 kph to 2.3.3 kpn. It's like applying a lot of bug fixes to kph.

Okay i try this one. Thanks

Since 2 weeks ago? I've been using KPN since its release.
I made sure that I use only 2.3.3 KPN. So I flashed from Froyo KC1 to Gingerbread KPN rather than 2.3.4 kph to kpn.
I suggest you try the raw smoothness of KPN first as a stock ROM before flashing anything above it or applying a mod or this CF-Root. You'll feel the difference already.

Do i need to deodex before i can delete the system apps that i am not using?

No. KPN is a stock rom, you can manually activate it. and for those who are using KPH(2.3.4) and flash KPN(2.3.3) one package, its still ok, but your baseband after flashing is still KPH(2.3.4) you wont get the full benefits of KPN(2.3.3) latest bug fixes and some bug may occur.

No risk if you flash through Odin the Samfirmware version. Kies might have something that screws you in the ass if you've modded your ace, because it's official.

Nope, dont do that, i suggest flash a 5 file package 2.3.3 thru odin, try to download XKP8 in samfirmware, and update to one file package KPN that way it will make your baseband as 2.3.3.

My post updated. Step 1 + Step 2 = flash CF-Root-S5830-v3.7-b78_recovery.zip .

@ketut.kumajaya
I had my first SOD today on the KPN. I have not encountered an SOD for the past two weeks of using 2.3.3 KPN until flashed the CF-Root today (August 1).
Maybe we can look into this?

Regards,
I have this problem too...
I want back to Froyo for now, wich rom has inside the froyo bootloader ?
I've tryed the jpx but have infinite bootloop
I think that the problem was that inside haven't the bootloader and with the 2.3.3 version it's incompatible the 2.2.1 :-\
Please give me info about a rom wich include all and flash completely and working a froyo stock rom

I think your main problem is that you have to flash a rom with 3 files and with PIT-file with re-partition checked. Did you do that?
For bootloader JS8 originally have a bootloader in it.

Same problem
I tried all available ROM's
with 2.2.1 to2.3.3
with wipe, hard reset
nothing help
If you had 2.3.3 running and you can get to download mode, do not touch the bootloader or reparation. Just install 2.1 zimage and factoryfs with heimdall. If that gets you booted, go on and do modem.bin and csc.
It is very risky flashing boot loaders. Once you can get to download mode, do not repartition or change boot.bin or sbl.bin. All boot.bin and sbl.bin do is get you to download mode or load zimage.
The boot loop is caused by a zimage/factoryfs mismatch.
I use heimdall because it lets you flash individual files.
Darkstriker has the Dutch 2.2.1 XEN with bootloaders on his file mirror. I reverted back from 2.3.3 to 2.2.1 because I'd rather wait for the official update as there is in fact not much difference between the two of it if you just want the stock ROM.
You can find the link to his mirror at the end of everyone of his post in the thread: " [HOWTO] [REF] [FAQ] [Guides] [Tutorials] Flash/Root/ADB/ROM [MUST READ!]".
Search the original firmware from January 2011 and flash it with Odin. It'll revert with bootlaoders and then you can re-flash the froyo version you want.
ezrom has bootloaders and is 2.2.1
Use the JPU rom: has the bootloaders.
However, to know if a rom has a bootloader, you should find low in the file name of the PDA.
"I9000XXJPU-REV03-PDA-low-CL747761.tar"
After flashing JPU, you can update the phone to your favourite rom (JS8, for example)

Use Darky's Resurrection ROM - with this ROM you can easily revert to 2.2.1.
I want to downgrade my sgs from Gingerbread to Eclair, to have a fresh and new start.
I downloaded from samfirmware a eclair firmware. It includes:
- CODE_I9000XWJM1 (inside the file, there are a sbl.bin and a boot.bin file, does that mean that I have a bootloader for eclair?)
- CSC_I9000OXXJG7
- MODEM_I9000XXJG6
- s1_odin_20100512.pit
Are these files good?
Should I tick "update bootloaders" in odin?
I'm scared to do this because I don't want to brick my phone.

this is a firmware, that disables 3 button combo! stay away from it! and it is ages old. you should use jpu or js8 with bootloaders if you want to have a fresh start.
Avoid Eclair ROM, some have fu**ed SPL which disable the 3 touchs combo for Recovery and Download.
hey guys, I tried both JVK and JVB stock roms and decided to revert to 2.2.1 JS8, I had no problems with flashing it, but i dont know if i`m with JVB bootloaders or whatever u guys talking about.. So my question is how to check if I`m with/ without JVB bootloaders.
P.S I have recovery/ download 3 button mode active as well
And if it`s not a problem, can someone explain to me what is boot loop and if I`m running on JVB bootloaders on 2.2.1 what problems can this cause to me?

if you flashed jvb over kies, you will have the bootloaders. if you flashed the jvk leak with the sbl one in the end of the filename, you also have the bootloaders. the best way to check is, is to open the firmware's -which you flashed to get gingerbread- pda or code file with winrar and look for sbl.bin and boot.bin.
i am running on js8 stock with speedmod with jvb bootloaders as well.
it will neither give you something, nor take anything from you. they are completely backwards-compatible. if you can enter download mode, which you can, everything is fine.
a bootloop is a situation, during this the device will not boot, it will keep repeating the boot animation or will hang on galaxy s logo.

Rolling back Software

Hi,
i Currently have Andriod 2.3.3 on My Phone with CF-Root on with Also Installed ClockWorkMod.
I Plan on Rolling back to 2.2.1 to test something
If I Spoofed the Device using spoofw and Choosed a Different device Code and re-flashed with Kies.
Would This Work without any issues?

A bricked phone means even if you press POWER+HOME button or POWER+HOME+VOLUME DOWN and nothing happened even if your phone is fully charged, then that is bricked. If it's bricked, you cannot do anything to your phone now. Say bye bye to it.
BUT
If you press POWER+HOME or POWER+HOME+VOLUME DOWN buttons and your phone went to recovery or download mode, then it is not bricked and you can just reflash any firmware you want to restore. Upgrade, downgrade, it's all up to you.

did you get your IMEI?
unable to check for firmware update thru kies
Hello,
I'm from Malaysia. I've successfully downgraded my phone from gingerbread KPH to froyo DXKC1. When I connect my phone to KIES, it says that this firmware cannot be upgraded. May I know what am I missing here? I was hoping to check for official firmware upgrade thru KIES.

SEA ginger isn't listed on KIES, yet. but you can call your local SSC and ask them about ginger upgrade. most of them already have new SEA ginger (well atleast in indonesia).
try re-flasing (please make sure that you use full package / complete file.
i've tried once, from KPH (blackhawk rom), to DXKC1, succeed, kies can detect my phone normally and chek for update.
i got a case of bad luck though. earlier today. bricked my ace from going from fla.shX2.2 to DXKC1 (the same file i use previously)

You must install csc for your country. *#272*imei#
Then select your csc and click install. Of course this only works is you flashed a multi csc with your country in it.

Well, and what firmware version do you have before you started flashing custom rom? You can extract MODEM from that FW and flash it apart.
hmmm, ill try to do that but its the stock rom i mean the original since i bought my sga. thanks anyway ill try to download a packaged rom in samfirmware i hope it would work. ill post feedback later.
I Think, I got to try MODEM_S5830XXKPH in my Cm7
Because I can't check my balance when I flash Cm7 and G3 won't work...
Do you think MODEM_S5830XXKPH will work on Cm7?
And how can I back up my old modem?

You and any other forum member, spread links to modems that are not found in the first floor, I'll add them there. Let's gather a BIG collection!

Don't flash Froyo modems on CM7 as it's based on GB.
Here's my contribution, S5830LUBKP7 firmware for Latin America:

If you are too lazy to boot into Windows and remember that Galaxy Ace will fail to boot if its flash counter is reached (saved in the dangerous stl5 partition). Modem in recovery flashable zip is the solution!
DXKPD-modem.zip (9.37 MB)
Flash it on your own risk using CWM recovery with signature and assert verification on.

New Firmware for Philippines DXLP8

20MB OTA update for DXLP7, kernel dated oct 31. might be just bug fixes .... biggest plus is that root from dxlp7 was retained.

you cannot flash stock firmware using CWM..
download stock fw from samfirmware.com, copy it to your sdcard, and use mobile odin pro to update...
you may also do that on your pc via Odin.exe

Can someone tell this as the Wifi on P6800DXLP8? Fix the problem of drop? Or continues at the same bug?
hongkong is not included in the list of countries for the latest update..i believe that hk fw is the one with wifi problem only
never had any issues regarding that, i just make sure to have a full flash and clear data with cwm
you could download other fw like malaysia because philippines is included if you click Info
i don't use firmwares with included carrier because they contain unnecessary apps

Yes, this rom fixes the ics wifi bug !
Any other changes in the rom? If the only change is fixed wifi, then it's better for me to stay on current rom.
