PSX Emulation on this thing. - Acer Iconia A500

So I got an Iconia today and I;m trying to put it through its paces. SNES emulation works fine but I'm having a war of a time getting PS1 emulation to work. I've got both PSX4Droid and FPse on this thing. I've got the playstaion bios and a .bin image of Tekken 3 that I ripped.
psx4droid won't run the game at all. The controls show up but then it immediately shows "unexpected error..." message.
FPse will actually run the game but the onscreen controlls wont respond. If I "Eject" the game it'll go to the Title screen and I can control up and down but nothing else.
I've seen posts stating that people have gotten PSX emulation to work on this, but none that detail just how. Any help in this recard would be greatly appreciated as I've only got 2 weeks to decide if I'm keeping this thing.
Edit(I have FPse working somewhat?: Ok I did some more poking around and I think I have something here. Looks like it was a matter of the start button not showing up on screen. Turning it to portrait got all the controls on screen and it actually was responding to the button presses. In order to get it to run smoothly I had to crank up frame skip but it'd showing 60fps. Does that even make sense?

I had all these same problems so i fell back on my old computer repair days experience. Some times newer is not always better ... I couldnt get any of the newer versions of psx4droid to run or even load games right. so afetr some digging i found the maker of psx4droid for a short while made one he called psx4droidv2 but for what ever reason he does not have it on his site. so I just googled it what your looking for is psx4droidv2 1.1.2 you just instal it like normal and put the bios files and game files all in same folder and I am up and running like a champ on my iconia everything loads and works. it even lets me do away with on screen controls and use my ps3 controller to play the games, you just have to map the buttons but is easy.
Hope this helps if so give me thanks.

Well it runs with is more than I can say for the first version of psx4droid that I'd downloaded. Unfortunately It doesn't seem to run at a solid frame rate. Also the screen scales too skinny.
That kind of settings do you have yours set to?
On another note, I've gotten FPse running at a consistent frame rate but there seems to be some games that simply won't play with it (Megaman Legends 2).

FPSECE - Setting it up

With the amount of people who use this, there must be an easier way of setting it up, in terms of all the virtual buttons etc. I tried to set it up a while ago, I though I'd done it ok, so I put Crash Bandicoot on and tried to play it, and it was a nightmare! It just didn't work well at all, I guess I must have gone wrong somewhere. Also to have to do it for each game is a ball-ache.
Is there not a .cab or something that sets it all up for you, so you just have to copy over a game image and away you go?

[Q] Psx4droid problem! (loading ROMs)

I'm having a problem with psx4droid.
I'm unsure if this is the improper place for this thread, so please inform me if it is so and I will take necessary actions (if any are necessary).
What i'm using:
Model: Android Transform (SPH-M920)
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
If there are any other specs that are required for diagnosis and the solution to my problem, then please inquire!*
My problem:
I have downloaded and installed psx4droid v1.1 and BIOS file schp1001.bin, uploaded Final Fantasy VII .bin ROM and am having an issue loading the game.
As soon as I tap on the Final Fantasy VII Disc 1.bin, I am brought to a black screen where it then takes me back to the "select ROM" screen and doesn't load the game.
What i've tried:
I've tried re-installing psx4droid using online tutorials, downloading and installing new bios files, re-uploading newly created FFVII .bin files, uploading and trying FFVII.pbp (eBOOT) and .img files, changing and messing around with the psx4droid settings, changing and messing around with my phones settings, closing out applications that may be interfering with psx4droid/FFVII, and everything else that I can think of.
Now I am at a loss, I don't know what to do. This should be working, according to the description of psx4droid in the market place.
I hope someone can help me find a solution to this problem soon.
Thanks all!
Well this really isn't a answer to your problem persay. But I too am having the same issue. My FFVII worked fine with the earlier psx4droid releases. However, when the latest release of 1.1 came out a day or so ago my FFVII quit working the same as yours. I would say it might be the release over anything else you tried. I went back to the last release that worked fine of psx4droid 1.0.9, which everything now runs fine on. I also noticed the latest release of psx4droid drops ALOT of framerates from the games I did get to work with it. In my opinion 1.1 is a bad release and creates more problems then I believe it fixed. I'd google 1.0.9 and upload the .apk onto your system and hopefully that version will work just fine for you.
Can't find a version of 1.0.9 anywhere. Think I could help finding this?
Hope the admins/mods won't mind us posting a link to help more people in the future
Ok, I found a download link for this version at a place called mediafire.
This will be your code at the end of the link placed in your browser: ?sh9f0ww7dzbuzgo
Alright, I've "updated" to v1.0.9 and it appears that things are doing better; but my only problem now is that when I launch the game (FFVII.bin) it just goes to a blank, black screen. I'm almost there, I can feel it!
Any ideas on what to do with the black screen?
I usually d/l my psx roms from doperoms.com. they always seem to be of good quality. Maybe try that next. Also, what device are you running psx on?
These version numbers seem to suggest you're pirating old versions and not obtaining the latest from the market....

Hardly, I paid for my copy. However the latest release of psx4droid in my opinion is garbage so thanks to titanium backup I restored my previous version.

The way I see it is he's basically downloading a backup .exe file to an earlier version, because the dev guys didn't care enough to leave any download links to those. Which, is legal, might I add
I paid for a program that doesn't work with the newest version, so i'm going to downgrade to the version that works!
Have you tried compressing your games w/ IceTea v1.3?
This has helped me run games that wouldn't run in a .bin format.
It's annoying that extra steps are needed but it also reduces the file size by a lot!!
This 'cyanogenmod 7 RC' ROM is Great! all things Considering.(don't really care bout 4G, and full HDMI Support coming soon) i haven't ran into any major mechanical issue/s (Thus-far) but i did ran into some minor Malfunctions but were easily corrected i.e. voice recognition, WiFi connections, inaccurate GPS location,etc..
But there is one issue that I've notice that i find kinda strange...
after i have updated from 'CM6.1.2-STABLE' ROM to 'CM7-RC' ROM, thanks to ROM Manager's 'OTA' Update
it have seem to have lost the ability to play Emulators of ALL kinds(gba-Snes-psx4droid,etc)
My known problem i am experiencing is "As soon as I tap on the Game, with a .bin ext(or of any ext), I am brought to a black screen-- then takes me back to the "select ROM" screen again and doesn't load the game.
i have done many things to had try repair this issue, like:
-Re-installing ROM w/ wipe cache,
-Installed other versions of the Emu's.
i have searched (google'd) for others like me that are experiencing this on 'cyanogenmod 7 RC' ROM. but sadly, non where found...
Problem with PSX4DROID?
Solution: Get Fpse for Android and forget about that P.O.S.
I can say Fpse works amazingly well, it's a emulator that's actually worth the money
I started playing GT2 and FFVIII again when I'm on the go and both work just like on the PS1, loading times are faster then on the actual PS1
I was wondering, before I buy this great app, will it work for the new phones running gingerbread?
Reason I ask is because I just updated my phone to android 2.3.2(Gingerbread) and now ALL my emulators (including PSX4DROID) are non-fuctional. And also, those it support wii controllers or any other type input controllers?

It shows that it supports 2.2 and up so it could work, that's interesting how all your emulators stopped working.

Windows/DOS Games

While I saw nothing like this posted here in the Transformer threads yet, I figured I'd make a thread to atleast start discussion as well as provide help with others that might be interested in this.
[aDosBox]
Currently I have managed to get aDosBox installed and working fairly well, to the point where Fallout (a game I personally wanted to play) is working decently well enough that I am happy.
A few things that I had to search around for to find answer to.
Mounting:
In aDosBox, in order to have a large enough space to full install Fallout, you need to use the following line:
mount d /Removable/SD -freesize 1024
This will provide you with 1 gb of free space (assuming you have 1 gb free) on the drive. I found I had to do this in order for the Fallout installer to allow me to do the full install.
Another thing to note is the number of cycles/second setting in aDosBox. I changed mine to roughly 16,000 and that seemed to give me good performance. Much higher than that (I think 21,000 is where I really noticed it) and aDosBox is trying to do too many cycles/sec and it actually slows things down.
Another problem I have had, is getting the mouse to actually properly follow my hardware mouse (I have the dock) as well as the touchscreen when using aDosBox. Calibrating the mouse doesn't really seem to have much of a good effect for getting this working properly yet either.
[Windows]
So far my attempts at installing Windows 98 (so I can then use Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics) have been pretty bad. I have not been able to get Windows 98 to install, I get stuck where it starts checking hardware. I let it sit for about half an hour, but that pretty much killed it.
I'll be trying out Windows 95C here in a bit.
After searching a bit, I found this little bit of information...
the /NA# switch, when used at the setup command line (ie setup /NA#) will skip the searching/checking hardware portion according to the number.
This switch bypasses the program check and can use the following values:
#=0 Default.
#=1 No Windows-based program check, but MS-DOS-based program are blocked.
#=2 No MS-DOS-based program check, Windows-based programs are blocked.
#=3 No Windows-based or MS-DOS-based program check.
After installing Windows 95, I got an error asking for MSDOS 7.0. Haven't figured out that problem yet.
Anyone else have any other experiences?
Download GemRB to play Infinity Engine games. Download ScummV to play... a bunch of other games. I wouldn't put much hope in it otherwise.

Well, Fallout isn't an IE game, so GemRB won't play it.
As for Scumm, I don't really care to play those games right now.

Full Throttle on my SGS was pretty awesome using ScummVM, I'm probably going to try it later on TF as well. Other classic games like Kyrandia etc do look funny in 2011 though (nostalgie eh...)

PSXperia conversion: Games not showing up

So, i tried to get this work during sunday and monday with no succes.
I have ripped some of my own games (Tombi 2 and crash bandicoot 3 PAL releases) via program Imgburn which i found from neoseeker forums after some googling.
I couldnt do ISO files so Imgburn did BIN files for me, i read that BIN files should work with PSXperiA, yesterday the author of the tutorial video, and possibly a member of XDA, confirmed that BINs should work by replying my utube comment. After this i updated my play to 2.3.4 and PSXperia to beta 2
I retrieved proper files (com.playsration something from phone memory and ZPAK from the memorycard i had crash 1)
After this i copy both files into "important 1" and "important 2" folders under (harddrive 2)/D:/PSX/
Extract folders is being created in same folder named as "data" after this i go to convert and fill the fields, mark the "analog box" and set paths (extracted content, game BIN and output)
When PSXperia is ready i take the game file and put it into my phone SD card to right directory (i dont excatly remember the path, its either way same path as described in the tutorial video i watched)
I unplug my play and check all the menus and places only to discover that games arent showing up anywhere
I think the problem could be either A ) minor detail i didnt notice or B ) something went wrong while ripping the game.
I believe both have some share in my problem, i tried original BIN files on PSX4droid (i had SPC10001 or something ~~ bios) but with all sort of tricking i didnt get any reaction (tried crash 3)
Soooo, what went wrong ? Can you help me ?
I did everything in that specific order so if something is missing, please do tell me
PS: i didnt mark box "yes this is a question" on these forums since this is call for help and not one question, i think i shouldng mark it ?
You should have watched all of the tutorial, You missed the part where you actually install the game. Watch my video again and see the part where I use a file manager to install the apk.

Aaaahh holy.....
I did see that part but because i was watching the video with my play i couldnt see file names and i think i just didnt hear that part correctly.
Though my excuse for sucha noob mistake must be that my PC read APK file as "Gamespy Arcade Custom Service" so all i could think was "WTH does this file do here ?"
Well, now i have instaled "Tombi 2" but its shutting down by itself (black screen and extremely quiet sound "sssshhhhhhh" from the speakers which stops after screen goes away)
But i think this problem is more common and can be found from "PSXperia beta 2.0" thread so i think i take a look at it
I will bump this thread if i need more help.
BTW, i cant get even PSX4droid to work, black screen and freeze, there seems to,be no topics solving or even containing the problem in the interwebz (tried PAL BIOS too but without luck)
It seems emulation god's are not on my side today

The problem might be that im using EU APK and ZPAK of crash bandicoot with Tombi 2
(i checked from github compatibility list and there was no sing about PAL release working, only Usa)
Tombi 2 is EU/PAL release while you are using USA version with possibly USA APK and ZPAK.
I try USA release of Tomba 2 with my current APK and Zpak, i will report in shortly
EDIT: didnt work, same deal as with PAL, i think next step is to get Usa Crash bandicoot APK and ZPAK and try with those, i think APK was in that PSXperi thread somewhere.
Small update.
Tombi 2 PAL works perfectly with US apk and ZPAK, minor graphical glitches and bugs (some edges of models look blue and few chains in second world are "hot" while they shouldnt be, this doesnt alter gameplay though.)
I have shared thanks for you two
Tombi 2 is by far, my favourite PSX tittle with countless hours of gameplay, im looking foward in trying Tombi 1 that i never had a chance to play and to play extra missions that are being unlocked in Tomba 2.
I wanted to try Zero Divided 2 but i had an error while ripping, today i will proceed trying out Croc 2, Crash Bash... Infact, all of my PSX PAL tittles.
crash 3 didnt work, ill try US release.
One last question, could converted game and the APK for for other xperia 2011 range devices, Arc is PS certified so i dont see why not on it, but im more thinkig about NEO.
My sister would like to play some PS classics too and the only PSX4droid version i could get working, performed horribly.
I know its kinda illegal, spreading software that is not desinged for centrain phone on purpose that is.

Play Ouya Games On The MOJO

Hi all
I just wanted to let you know that you can play all the Ouya games on your MOJO
Every Ouya game seems to work very well or even better than on the Ouya. If you use the CTRL, some buttons seem to be mapped wrong, but this is not a big problem, most of the games can be played. If you own an Ouya, then you can even use the Ouya controller on the mojo, where you do not have wrong mapped buttons.
The only issue is that you can't buy the full version of the games. But most of those games are free anyway. And all of the games are free to try. This way, you can play 500+ great games on the MOJO :good:
Visit the following link, where you can download APK's of all Ouya games, then sideload them to your Mojo:
ouyalytics.com
At the moment, my favorite game to play on the MOJO is the following:
ouyalytics.com/app/589-Killing-Floor:-Calamity
Have fun! May the MOJO force be with you
EDIT:
I didn't test enough games last time and it seems I had a few lucky punches in the first place. After a few more tests my opinion is this:
1. Not every game works with the Ouya controller
2. Only about 10% of the games work with the CTRLR controller
3. Every game runs on the MOJO without crashing
http://ouyalytics.com/app/589-Killing-Floor:-Calamity/
Wow amazing!
I'll be checking that out for sure!
I'm sure the ouya launcher can be installed, letting you also pay for games.
The irony is really funny
Thanks for letting us know!
You are welcome
I actually did try the ouya launcher, but it didn't work. It crashes when starting.
I tested a few more games and for now it seems like about 30% of the ouya games work with the CTRL Controller. Maybe we can share experiences which games work with the MOJO controller? Let me start:
Killing Floor: Calamity - works like a charm, but L2 and R2 are flipped and also DPad up and down are flipped
KNIGHTMARE TOWER - works like a charm, no issues
CANABALT HD - works like a charm
Another remark:
The Android internet browser seems to crash if you are on the overview (or search-) page at ouyalytics. So what I do is to search on google for a particular game like this:
ouyalytics killing floor
Then you can pick the first link google offers, where you land on the page to download the game.

Thanks again for the ouya tip!
I found it so easy to install emulators from:
http://dayoftheouya.com/a-list-of-all-known-emulators-for-ouya/
Which all support controllers and doesn't require switching to mouse mode, the UI is controller friendly
I installed these:
N64: Mupen64Plus AE
I start with the OUYA layout and change the D-pad and Z trigger button.
Easy to map controls, works well.
Roms must be .z64
Configure the graphics plug-in using the 10th Anniversary option, works the best.
Actually plays better then I expected! most work fine including FPS, I noticed driving games not that good.
SNES: Snes9xPlus
Works well, create a new profile and set the CTRLR.
Roms must be .smc
If you don't know which to get, I can recommend the .emu ones, easy to setup.
NES: NES.emu
Sega MegaDrive/Genius: MD.emu
Or just install this (haven't had time to try it):
http://dayoftheouya.com/ouya/retroarch
Includes most Sega/Nintendo consoles, Doom/Quake & PSX
Setting up the emulators,I recommend connecting at least a mouse to configure the controller.
All 8/16bit games I've tested run at speed, I haven't tried PSX yet.
When I get time, i'll make a vide and show it off.

I can confirm NES.emu, SuperGNES, GBC.emu, GBA.emu, DraStic, FPSE, NEO.emu, MD.emu, PCE.emu, SAT.emu, PPSSPP, and SuperN64 (A branch of Mupen64).
All work flawlessly except PPSSPP (doesn't support the D-PAD at the moment, and sound is laggy). Also, DraStic is really wonky because it models the DS touchscreen....Works with a mouse, but that feels strange to use the controller and a mouse....Then again, it's sort of like using a Wii. Heh..
There is an app market which contains only free and open source apps and games. I found it pretty useful for the MOJO. There you can also find all the emulators and every app/game you downloaded will be updated automatically
Here it is:

To map retroarch controller,
So if you click the bug guy, settings, input device, and switch to ouya, the cntrl works perfect with all rom games.
Start button does not work on some roms and the mouse mode is required to push start.
Mojo is not listed in the list of devices.
Madcatz USB PC was listed. Haven't tried it yet.

I'm going to send retro arch programmer the mojo button coordinates so that he can add mojo to the list of devices.
they also need to add a "save input device" feature, otherwise you have to change the input device for every game.

That's true and it's mapping setting isn't that great, but yeah good idea, they'll need the hex code for each button, which is here:

The reason I mentioned the android version is that's what a mod suggested over at the official forum. Yet, he isn't familiar with this device and I'm not sure if the touch device limitation will affect that port. It shouldn't.
That said, should I be worried about the lack of touch screen insofar as the emulators are concerned? I mean, I should still be able to use FPse or other similar emulators like N64 AE, just map it to the controller or use PS3 controller if nothing else, right? Curious to know if this is the achille heel of this console.
Honestly, I'm pretty happy with it....After all the troubles I've had, I still play on it daily. I have all my console games on it and all apps properly map the MOJO. I've gotta wait to root mine until I get the proper cable, but I'll probably switch to using a mouse and the PS3 controller.
I use all the emulators. They all are fine without touchscreen. Mouse mode on the controller works just fine to navigate menus. Don't worry about that aspect.
The only flaw I'm seeing so far is that there are so few people who actually bought one...Which means there won't be many devs to adopt the system and create custom ROMs or OC kernels. I always seem to get in on those things that few people actually use...The A700 tablet, for instance...Or the Asus Slider SL101...Yeah...Bad choices when it comes to customization (when you don't know how to do it yourself, I mean.)
I'd love to work on a ROM, but I have neither the time or the knowledge to do so.
Okay, I thought of another flaw (which has apparently been fixed through root): Lack of accessibility to previously purchased apps and games for the MOJO. At least the OUYA has their own market and made no claims that you could access what you've already bought (which MadCatz did). That's a bad thing...Very...Very...Bad.
Shadow Light - The Power of the Dark
Try Shadow Light - The Power of the Dark
It's a free platformer and works on MOJO
The video framerate's just slow, it's 60 FPS on MOJO in 1080p
