[Q] RMA and hope for the best or Xoom? - Eee Pad Transformer General

I'm leaving for college in mid August, and my tf B4O is experiencing worse and worse light bleed. I don't care about the laptop dock, and was wondering if I should go down $400 with the Staples coupon on a -xoom- EDIT: Galaxy Tab with greater assurance of build quality or risk the RMA down in Grapevine, TX? Any other suggestions are welcome.

Hi, sorry for my english..
I have both of them.. eee pad transformer and the xoom tablet.. and both of them have some bugs.. eee pad transformer runs at the moment whit os 3.1 and overclocked cpu between 1.2 and 1.5ghz.. moves between the screens isnt fluent, moves in the app menu isnt fluent too. i try the launcher pro too, but the same problem. i have a one screen whit two widgets over the whole place, and on this screen i cant get the move between it and other screen fluent..
it didnt feel so good, and it looks very bad, i cant understand why google or asus are not in the position to fix that.. i cant belive that the hw whit dual core 1.2 ghz and 1gb ram isnt enough.
the feelings in the browser are not so good too.. most of pages works, but how? the same problem like whit the screen, the scroling up and down in the browser is not fluent.. playing from videos its not so good too.. its acceptable, but not perfect.. flash didnt work reliably, some site like facebook have problems.. google+ didnt work correct too..
i have some random reboots, but it can be from the overclock the cpu..
so, now some things to the xoom device..
here in eu(switzerland) motorola didnt roll out a update for our devices so we stay on 3.0.1.. its really terrible, i pay more then 800 CHF for it, flash didnt work, microsd card didnt work, widget on the home screen are not expandable, user agent in the browser didnt work, more correct, you didnt have the option to set the agent.. i install yesterday a us version whit 3.2, there are some modifications on it to run whit 3g on eu devices.. some things are better, but not perfect.. im not sure if flash works, i dont belive.. on youtube test speed website whit the video, i get between 5 and 9 fps on 720p, on 320p its ok.. the moves between the screens are not fluent too, the same in the menu with apps..
some problems are fixed, the widget are expandable, microsd work now, but you didnt have the feel you work whit a device which is top, dual core 1.5ghz, 1 gb ram and a graphic chip.. the big problem in browser stay on motorola whit os 3.2.. facebook didnt work correct and google+ too..
so all in all, i will wait until xoom get a officiall update here in eu and i will wate for the update from transformer to 3.2.. if things arent better, i will sell the devices and buy a real table pc whit win7 from hp which is convertable too.. this bugs in the system or whatever, im not a developer, is it the system, the hw or the work between it, its not for dayli use.. i would replace a notebook or a pc at home whit the asus transformer, but i cant do that, all this bugs make it unpossible..
and i look for a device "all in one" and didnt want to have one more.. im really a fan from android and my first device was the google phone g1/dream.. but the products like xoom or transfomer arent finished to be saled, really not.. and i cant understand firms like asus and motorola, how they cant push something that is not ready for it..
its just my opinion at the moment whit the devices..
have a nice day..

I could also get a new tf maybe a B6O or a B7O.
Thanks for the view on bugs, I actually don't get lag between screens and I get good frame rates on flash. I love the screen on this but the build quality worries me.

What about a Samsung 10.1? If I did not care about a keyboard that would be my choice.

Yeah I'm thinking just getting the Galaxy Tab after seeing no prevalent issues plaguing their forum like this one.

Actually, I'm thinking that if I get it from Staples, their return policy is 14 days. So if I RMA on the same day I buy the Transformer, I can return the Tab if the Transformer is fixed. If the Transformer is worse off than it was before, I can hang on to it. This is assuming I get the Transformer back in under two weeks.

I dunno dude the other day I was looking at their forum and they havee alot of the same complaints such as random reboots, sluggish keyboard, sleep of death, etc so evidently that stuff is just inherent in Honeycomb thus far. Sure they don't have the battery drain one since there is no dock nor the light bleed since they have a diff display type but they appeared to have plenty of other issues themselves. I do agree though if it weren't for the dock the Galaxy looks to be the way to go for a Honeycomb tablet currently, though without the built in SD slot that kinda sucks but guess you can get a dongle for that if you really need it. Also I don't think light bleed "gets worse", you sure you just are seeing it better or paying more attention to it then you were?

Well, I had these light blotches in the middle of the screen, and light bleed middle bottom and left hand corner (lower). The other day I noticed a huge amount of light bleed coming from the right hand lower corner. I may have not noticed it, but maybe through handling, the screen is less secure on the bottom frame? I'll just send it in, if they don't fix it, I'll just buy the Galaxy Tab (avoid restocking fee)

I would recommend getting the thinkpad k tablet.... I think its going to be the best android when it hits the market....had two transformers sold one to buy the thibkpad k.

Same thing happened to me. I have a B40 and the light bleed started at nothing and got worse and worse over the last two months. I just RMA'd it.

[INFO] Let's face it honeycomb is not ready

I have had the Acer and Asus and honeycomb is weak. It's just too unstable, and the Transformer has too many quality problems. I tried to make the most of it, but today my Asus wouldn't boot up got stuck at the Asus screen. It's over, and as I look in this forum there are more complaints then then anything. Honeycomb is not ready and the Asus has serious quality issues. I'm waiting for webos now.

Quite the opposite for me. Honeycomb has been very stable and no crashes.

That's because people who are happy with their tablets don't flood the forums with new threads. Honeycomb has been anything but unstable for me. No crashes. Sure, still has video problems but that's not Honeycomb's fault.
Honeycomb FTW!!!!!!!!! sucks these forums are a good spot for crybabies lol . * just bustin blz*
yes i ****ed up my TF, yes i bought another one that i will have the next tuesday, but i never had problems with HC.... ok i lied i had my FC and other stuff, but im a CE and im so USED to computers crashing and doing weird stuff, plus i only screwed up HC when i was trying to do some anime playback

I love honeycomb as well, not one crash so far. These threads are getting really annoying.
While I am liking it mostly, i think the iPad is much more polished. Things like txyping on this forum are painful. Typing with two fingers is faster than the tablet can display. Then there are the apps, even things like the XDA app consistently crash. I found many which work fine and seem to cover my needs nicely, I still find my self wishing for a more polished product. And that is just honey comb.
As for the hardware I think it is lacking optimizations massivley. Againg this is a look and feel issue, the damned TF has friggin sharp edges. Mine actually gave me a small aluminum splinter. Also the sharp edged holes at the bottom make it uncomfortable to hold sometimes.
There are good things though. The battery seems to be great. I really like the screen. The fact that there is a micro sd slot is wonderful. Overall the tablet is light and durable.
I told myself i'd give it a wek like i did for the Iconia. I like things about both but i think the iPad is a better product overall.
not seeing any instability...works fine here.
HC was stable for me. I would't say HC is not ready, I would say the HC ecosystem is not ready yet. Too little apps for HC tablets

google its.... a bit bold on its modus operandi, they are developing hardware and hardware related software (AKA OS android) as if they were developing Gmail, and other aplications of google (and those are good), if you think about those you know what its comming its GOOOD
Ios its not bad, but... its simple and that helps a lot on the polishing part and its 4 year old too, its not bad i repeat nor old, its just more mature
EDIT: dont let the tablet fall, mine did hitting one corner and bye bye LCD, im still waitng for asus RMA

True. I am one of the non posters who is thrilled with the Transformer.
No doubt Honeycomb has a little ways to go, but this is the first time that I have used a tab that, to me, beats out the iPad. Since I have had the TF my IPAD has just collected dust.
The quality issues are minimal and the benefits greatly outweigh them.

Somethings are great. Most of what isn't will be fixed over time. Build quality issues will be resolved as different manufacturers get involved or TF 2 =)
Honeycomb apps overall can be slow though. Things like typing in this quick reply box are slow and stuttering, the halting cursor movement is very erratic. No netflix yet is annoying, but might be here eventually. In my mind I want the iPad polish on Android, but that will be in time. I'm 50/50 atm as to whether this goes back next week, if so I'll end up waiting to see what comes out this summer.
Honeycomb is awesome. I was slightly worried when I read all the initial reviews bashing the XOOM, but I've had almost no issues with it. In fact the Froyo and Gingerbread that I've had running on my phone is less stable than Honeycomb on my Transformer.
I would say that honeycomb and the transformer have both surpassed my expectations. I expected HC to have a lot more bugs than I have experienced. My first android experience was with an og droid on eclair, and until I started using what the dev community had developed, I would have killed to have my iPhone back.
I also purchased the original ipad when it came out and quickly returned it because it operated exactly the same as a big version of my iphone/iPod touch, which made it boring and usuless to me. The transformer, on the other hand, has been able to do anything that I have needed it to while also being fun. The transformer has really gotten more use than any other new gadget that I can remember, in the few weeks that I have had it. I also have not exprienced any of the quality control issues that are constantly talked about on here, other than some limited light bleed, which in my book can't really even be considered a defect.
I believe HC itself to be quite stable, as I have never had a crash/reboot. Many apps, even the supposed HC optimised apps, need some real attention to run well on HC but I don't blame the OS for that.
In short, I am very happy with HC and the quality of the transformer. The one thing that may bring me to ditch the transformer in the future is the lack of any way to use nvflash. I have partially bricked many phones and have had to use this method to restore them. Without it I don't really feel comfortable rooting and romming the thing, so for now I'm choosing to stay stock, at least until 3.1 and the constant FOTA updates are pushed out.
I'm enjoying my TF and HC more than I ever thought. I probably wouldn't have been as enthusiastic if I didn't have the keyboard dock, since typing on screen (on any tablet) is awkward. I spend more time with my TF now than I do with my laptops.

The typing issue on this site and others built using the same base platform is due to how the stock browser handles it.. try switching to the classic skin or use Firefox.. works much faster IMHO this 'lag' issue has been mentioned here and explained many times now, and whilst its not ideal.. its a pretty isolated issue and not a real reason to generalize that 'the TF is laggy/HC is laggy' (IMHO of course - but then, I'm biased and love me my TF )
No crashes to me. Very stable OS. With 3.1 should be perfect.

Goodbye, have a nice life!
People need to get real. You read the post just like me, I see complaint after complaint. It's a 400 dollar half baked product.70 % bad 20% good 10% don't know what to do with this thing. Good luck with the light bleed, Sharp edges, bad speakers, unresponsive screen, gaps in the corner of screen, vibrating plastic back when volume is full blast, buggy OS, no accessories available, really I want to like it too.

Getting real.. my Transformer works just fine thankyouverymuch Only wearing the rose coloured glasses because it really does work (for me, and quite a few others it seems - though not all, I'll admit)
I'm sure you love your tech, and for that reason of course I'm disappointed that you're not getting the same experience as I am.. more satisfied customers equals a growing userbase equals more support and so on...
.. (although cheaper than the competition, the Transformer's RRP still isn't trivial and I can see why you'd hacked off), but those that are enjoying the transformer experience aren't deluding themselves that its something it isn't; we're evangelising for a reason (in our own honest opinions of course) ... I would probably be as disillusioned as you if I'd encountered the same problems, and by the sounds of it the blame (if you want to call it that) could be thought to lie with both Asus and Google.. however, for now.. i'm loving the tech, and didn't blink once when the reviews of another world beating tablet started coming out (Galaxy Tab 10.1) - this thing ticks all the right boxes for me
I guess you'll have to go with an alternative (Galaxy Tab 10.1, iPad/iPad2 etc.) or wait for something else that ticks all the right boxes from an o/s, usability, support, software library and build quality perspective..

[Q] Buyer's Remorse... And I don't even have it yet!

Well, I've managed to find one and ordered a 32GB version. It should be arriving on Monday.
However, from all the negative 3.1-related threads I'm kind of regretting it now. Talk of battery drains, speaker issues, lags, random reboots, worse wifi, etc. is making me wish I'd held off or gone for something else (Acer Iconia?)
Please someone tell me that in the grand scheme of things, this is actually a bloody decent device!
Aside from a small bit of light leak mine is all good. What you're experiencing is people that aren't satisfied will be more likely to speak up than people who are satisfied with the devices. These issues are things that have happened to certain users but its not like your device will automatically present all these symptoms. In the grand scheme of things this is a really nice device. If you are looking for something where everything is perfect and there are no issues, you might have to wait a while longer until honeycomb matures a bit more and the 2nd Gen of android tabs come out (i don't really count gb tabs as officially supported android tabs)

While I can't speak for anyone else I bought mine sight unseen and could not be happier.
I'm rooted on 3.1 and overclocked and while kernel is a little rough I am loving it. Only gonna get better. Besides, stock kernel is an option.
Light bleed...not an issue for me. (Haven't noticed so I don't care)
Random reboots. May have happened overnight but I haven't seen any.
I haven't killed my battery yet. Lowest I've gotten was last night to 23% but I was flashing **** like crazy. (No dock btw)
Lots of storage.
Videos play great now.
Speakers are fine to me. (They make it so I can easily hear what I want to hear)
Screen is gorgeous.
Kills the zoom as far as I can tell.
I am happy and with all the development going on I am only going to get happier.

No battery drains, speaker issues, or wifi problems with mine. Have had it randomly reboot on me once though. And I've seen the Xoom lag way worse. Overall, this is the best tablet currently available. I wouldn't touch an Acer product with a 10 yard stick.
Stick with 3.0 if you don't like all the problems with 3.1. Though, I'm using it and am only bothered by the browser.
I just ordered mine too and don't yet have it. I had what you are having and even cancelled the order at one point in favor of the a500. After cancelling, I did a pretty thorough look at the Acer a500. Even though it has better speakers, a USB 2.0 port, and vibrate, it's downsides are too much to take.
I don't want something that heavy or bulky. It has known GPS problems. The battery life is pretty mediocre when compared to the Transformer. And, currently anyway, the development for this tablet is much more promising.
Don't worry about the bleed issues. That seems to be the biggest one people complain about. Just keep exchanging until you get one with minimal bleeding.
It is a bloody fantastic machine! Love it, it has been used pretty much non-stop since the 3 of May!
Excellent piece of hardware - I only got the 16GB version, so plan is to purchase a good microSDHC card soon - 32GB version.
I am running on the latest version (3.1) and I could not be happier. Got the dock a week ago and I amazed on how much I use it. Often combo-use the touch screen and keyboard for interactions with the transformer.
I game, surf, read, watch movies and some hobby software development. Plan is to soon be able to actually develop on it as well
I know the experience migth vary, but for me, this piece of wonderful wholesome goodness could not be better, unless someone covered it in batter and deep fried it!
- Authored on my transformer
The fact that you can sell it technically used for the price of new must mean that there are around 10,000 people a month that like theirs.

Aside from a small amount of light bleed, that is only noticeable if you are sitting in the dark with the screen ramped up to maximum brightness, I haven't had any problems with my mine. I don't need a signature.
16 hours off the charger and I'm at 52%. Granted, a good deal of that has been idle, I haven't played with it for 16 hours straight, but that is in line with what I expect from a tablet -- mess with it some, lay it down for hours, and pick it up again later with a decent amount of juice left. Mine creaks a bit in the upper right corner, and I notice one small spot of light bleed under perfectly dark conditions, but otherwise, I'm glad I bought it. Won't find a better value anywhere else.
Thanks for the feedback
Wow, filled up a page in less than an hour!
Thanks guys. It IS good to hear the other side of the coin, and I completely get the "self selection bias" point.
I have less remorse than I did an hour ago, so thank you everyone.
Now I'm looking forward to it arriving again
I am thrilled with the TF!!! And let me just say that I am very hard to please when it comes to electronics.
I had the G-Slate and the TF whips it, hands down.
The Acer tab is alright, but it is wayyy too bulky and still not quite as good as the TF IMO.
I am using 3.1 and although it is not as fast as 3.0 when I had it overclocked it still works fine. I haven't tried the 3.1 oc kernel that got posted today yet.

Yeah only two things to really be concerned about is the light bleed, if it's massive, and battery life after 3.1.
For the $400 price, the IPS display, and all other tablets sucking, I guess I'm happy with the Transformer. But I got a few problems.
My first transformer had a defective screen that was separated from the glass making the back light visible on one side and causing the glass to bend.
I'm on my second Transformer now. It's got back light bleeding, which doesn't bother me too much. But it's also got a quarter inch circle on the screen that is brighter than the rest of the screen. Looks like something is wrong with the panel there.
So now I got to return a second Transformer. And this is such a pain because I got to time it right with when they have something in inventory or just be without a the tablet for a while like last time.
There are other build quality issues. The back plastic edges are not flush with the metal bezel, some corners are popped up a little.
And the speaker volume is not balance (fearing this might be hardware problem too since its still not fixed from the 3.1 update).
I was having some performance issues and found I had to reboot the tablet often to refresh the performance. Then I started removing some applications. After removing TweetCaster Pro, suddenly the performance improved significantly.
I seem to get a lot more keyboard lag (ASUS or Android keyboard) with the stock browser after the 3.1 update. It's a little disappointing.
I've got gripes. But I think I'll be keeping the Transformer (though definitely need to go through another exchange). The A500 doesn't have an IPS display and is very heavy. And I suspect it'll have it's share of software problems too. Same thing for the Xoom. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has it's own quality build issues (it's glass likes to pop out of the bezel like the Transformer's back side is doing on mine) and it's lack of micro SD is a huge disappointment.
The state of Android tablets is still in a rather sad state. But we are still kinda early adopters and it's the price we pay.
PS. Almost forgot to mention, the GPS on my Transformer doesn't work at all. Though this really doesn't bother me since I don't use it anyway.
Yikes! I swear I think there are just bad batches out there, that can be the only explanation of these wild swings in quality. I guess the OP needs to cross his fingers and hope he gets one of the good ones.

THIS so much.
I am REALLY surprised with how much damn COMPLAINING there is across these boards. My unit came perfect apart from a small bit of light bleed at the bottom.
And best of all? 3.1 DOUBLED the functionality of the tablet. I was super happy with it when I got it, and then the update made it feel like a new tablet.
Besides the light bleed, my only problem with it is that it doesn't seem to do 1080p output through the miniHDMI jack.
Other than that, it's perfect and one of the best technology purchases I have ever made.
TBH, when I purchased mine I read all the complaining about problems and also was worried. But when I opened it, plugged it in, and used it, I was blown away and all my worries were destroyed.
Seriously, it's an amazing product that benefits even more by the dock and by Honeycomb 3.1. Even if new tablets with better hardware come out, this tablet is going to retain its uniqueness and power through the ever-increasing capabilities of Honeycomb (and eventually Ice Cream Sandwich!) and because of its fantastic Dock.
EDIT: Please don't get me wrong, by "complaining" I don't mean that people are whining about illegitimate problems. Problems DO exist, but it's as the person I quoted said: it's just biased because all the people without problems are enjoying their tablets and not looking for solutions on this forum.
The only "problem" that I feel IS complaining is people who whine about how their tablets "creak". It's like the most minor problem of anything, and yet there are people who have returned their tablets and won't buy another one just because their first one makes a small creak sound when you press on it.
Remember this device is on the edge of tech. New product. Growing pains in manufacturing, etc. There will be returns.
But I can tell you that I have been on the edge of tech since before the IBM PC. And I have never had a "toy" that brought such amazement and sheer joy. Run google body on it (while you have two email accounts updating and google voice updating while you have a map with the latest earthquakes updating while you have a maps window open while you have conversion software to convert anything to anything and gps navigation at your fingertips with Copilot Live) and prepare to be amazed. All while listening to music.
I have no problems others than the sound is not very good. I think it will get better with updates; there are $25 solutions to this problem.

I had two with bleed and speaker balance issues. one experience the frame separation too and it got worse the longer I had it. for me the bleed was noticeable even at lowest brightness sine I read books with black bg and red text. one had way more bleed than the other.
my third try is coming on Tuesday. I've decided to give up using the tf as an ebook reader and keep it limited to comics or reading in daylight.
as for the crappy speakers, sound quality and balance issues, ive just decided that for what it offers at the price its good enough. plus i have my archos 101 as back up. crappier build and screen but better av playback quality.
the tf is a great device, if that weren't true I wouldn't give it three tries. I just really wish the qc was better.
I've had mine since April 28th and it's fine. No problems to speak of except minor light bleed, which doesn't bother me at all. 3.1 even improved my battery performance, so I'm kind of surprised to hear about the other issues here. Enjoy your TF and post your thoughts after you receive.

[Q] Transformer issues?

I'm on the fence between the Motorola Xoom and the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, and so far I'm really liking the Transformer. Motorola hasn't bothered to update EU Xooms to 3.1, so I'd be getting the US version.
Now, what issues have you guys encountered with the device? Light bleed? Speakers are unbalanced?
I really need help to make a decision, and I love the keyboard dock. But there are some issues I'm not ready to live with.
Thanks in advance,

plenty of threads here talking about issues but dont forget that the majority of people without issues dont start threads about not having issues
to me the xoom and the TF seem very similar in spec but the keyboard has been MUCH more useful than i thought it would. My laptop is now gathering dust ! the keyboard means that i have
1) a much better input method
2) extra battery
3) extra ports (USB etc)
4) a 'lap stand' ... ie its much easier to sit with the TF in my lap and surf/post due to the fact it can be angled in the keyboard dock makes the whole concept much more useable !
plus it looks like the TF is going to outsell the xoom, suggesting it will have more dev/xda support.
... oh, and its cheaper !

Community support FTW! All devices have issues. (Even expensive apple ones) But finding devices with a passionate community working together on overcoming those issues is the important part.
Thought I'd also add something
+'s
CHEAPER!!!
Extended Battery + KB Dock
3.1 in EU
IPS Display
-'s
Asus Warranty is variable
Potential light bleed
Slightly dodgy software (Although I haven't had a look at the newest update)
No 3G option yet
Hard to get hold of.
I'd still get a XFormer though
Hope this helps

If I had a choice between the motorola xoom or samsung galaxy 10.1
i would get the samsung, I have the ASUS transformer and I love it but
I also enjoyed the samsung galaxy when I checked it out yesterday at Best Buy.

Your missing the important one of all !
The keyboard dock and extended battery.
If Samsung had that, I would've bought the samsung due to its lightness, thinner than transformer.
But I heard Samsung don't roll out updates quickly however that could be due since it was on a provider.

Thanks in advance,
Emmanuel

I would do some snooping around a couple of the Xoom forums & threads. Just to see if people are experiencing any of the same issue with the transformer. I am not going to flame asus but there really seems to be a quality issue & not just with light bleed but in manufacturing. People have reported the following problem.
1. dead pixels or white pixels
2. dust under the screen
3. slight screen separation
4. power button sticking
5. excess glue around the bezel (I can confirm)
6. issues with the charger heating up & melting.
I would just do your homework & find out if the Xoom has any issue of its own. You could also consider the Galaxy Tab 10.1 too which is available.

You can just return it till you get a TF101 without issues, at which point it will always be better than the Xoom.

Why would I do that? I plan on using the tablet, not dreaming about it while it's away. And why should I buy a possibly faulty product?

[Q] Worth buying

Pretty simple Q.
Is this tab worth buying, or should one wait for something better around the corner?
Hearing many issues from screen problems through to lag on the interface. What are owners opinions-pros/cons? I am looking specifically at 3G model.
TIA.
There will always be a better device off in the future somewhere.
You should buy what serves your needs now; not wait for that illusary future device.
People that post on these forums are the ones that have strong opinions. "In a pitch black room with a dim display I see ghosting". Don't let posts like that worry you - the average user does not use the device that way.
The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is the best device with it's form factor available today. Try one and see if you like it - that is the only test that counts.

In my view definately the screen is very sharp and clear , the issues noted are not very evident with the screen at least with mine far superior to the P1000 . The lag is due to touchwiz and honeycomb not the hardware. ICS is round the corner and should put this right if not im sure the devs on here will. As for something round the corner always is only a year since 7" came and at the time I thought that was cutting edge . I have had mine for two weeks 10/10
10/10 here too.
no issue at all.
I consider Tablet + Phone at this price = cheap!

This. Because of it's form factor I think it's the best tablet out right now.
This TAB is amazing, I recommend it.
The TouchWIZ UX is lagging on top of honeycomb which isn't helping, so ICS will iron all these out.
You can get rid of the lagging by using ADW Launcher EX.
i own around 20 tablets and this is by far the best one i've ever had. I even got me a new 3g contract for it!

GPS Performance?
Hi all
For those who have the 7.7 (3G or WiFi) - I am looking at purchasing a 3G import...
Just interested in the GPS performance as i've read varying reports on how good a sat lock the unit gets...
I need something that will be reasonably reliable and want to use it with OziExplorer mapping software...
Any reviews or info from actual users of the tab?
Cheers
Well, the GPS performance is stellar to say the least.
I'm using Sygic and Google Maps, it locks very fast.
I would also give it a 10/10
It is exactly what i was looking for I do notice some slight lag in the launcher but every android device i have ever used has had slight lag in the launcher.
When I get into apps though this thing really flys.
The screen simply can't be beat and i have watched a ton of video on it already and the high resolution makes reading things much better too.
the device size and weight might be my favorite part. It is light enough that holding it for a while is not nearly as bad as say holding an ipad for a while or even holding my old nook color for a while. And talking about the nook color the gt7.7 has about the same over all dimensions as a 7" device yet has a larger screen size that really adds a huge bonus.
I am using the $30 a month tablet plan on att and it is working great.
Lastly I wanna say I reallly like the stock browser in this device it is extremely smooth and quick.

Get rid of the TW Launcher, use ADW Launcher EX. Its very very smooth.
Totally worth the buy!
The display is big, clear and sharp, sound is great on the speakers.
But the main attraction for me about this tablet is that it can last thru my entire workday and still have over 50+% battery left. (thats about 12hrs of non stop radio streaming, hundreds of gmail pushes, phone calls, and brief browsing of the web)
Basically this device replace my ipad + phone + phone charger.

Your money Mate.
The 510 is already out in the states I believe. That should be on par with a TFP.

Yeah I know but I just like the transformer more because of the keyboard and I just had so much problems with my A500, I like so much but asus made a better job this time
Anyhow is any other tablet (more promising than the a510 and the tf300) is coming out in 2012?! Or I go on ??

As was stated by MD, its your money. Just remember each device has their own quirks and there has been some complaints about the TF Prime too...
You should go to their forum and do a bit of reading... Don't let the sales rep sweet talk you with everything good as its their job to do that...
I'm holding out on the Asus Infinity or the 710 (whichever comes first).
Just a little curious as the 2core processor in the infinity reportedly outperforms the quadcore Tegra according to Anandtech.
I did that move about 2 months ago.
The only gripe I have is extremely weak gps reception, I don't know if this has been fixed in newer production runs of the TF201.
Asus did send me a free gps dongle, it works, but it ain't pretty.
Wifi is also weak, but i have no issue with that. Plenty of AP's in the house.
Remember, no 3G in the TF201. I never used the 3G in my A501.
All in all, TF201 > A501, for double the price.
Better things will come along in a few months, for sure.
Like was said earlier : if you got the $$$, go for it, you'll be happy. Or wait & you'll also be happy
If you need comparison between the 2 devices on some specific point that's bugging you, plz ask, they're both on my desk for the time being.

Yeah, the first run of the TFP's were garbage for Wifi. Reason being, most of them didn't have the wifi antenna connected properly!!!!!!!! I'm guessing GPS is the same reason.
Nice QA procedures Asus.....

Thnx so much for sharing that info and as I said earlier I like my iconia a lot but just wanted to make an upgrade u know it looks better thinner lighter and with that quad core monster inside will be a lot whole better experience.
As for GPS I don't use that a lot as I should have mentioned earlier I'm not in the states I'm in Egypt so I don't need a lot and besides I've got google maps on my android mobile so no need for it on the tab almost used it once on my iconia, and as for wifi my router at home almost covreing the whole home and I'll be beside it most of the time bec. Its in my room (good for me ) and while outside I'll tethering from my android phone which will be like half a meter away from the tablet.
And btw not all the primes have that issue may be I'll be lucky .
Last thing and most important thing which almost all of u told me about is if I had the $$$ then why not, look its not that way because its like I'm not spending 650$ just like that but I have kind of a trick as I said I live in Egypt and we have the electronics here way overpriced than in the states u get a 32GB Ipad for about 900$ (after doing the conversion) imagine that :O so the trick is that I'm gonna sell my iconia in Egypt (gaining about or a little less than 500$) then buy the transformer from the US or UK haven't decided yet !!
So that all if there is a better tab yet to come in 2012 and not the tf700 its just overpriced for HD display other than that its just like the tf201 so if there is other tabs let me know
Sry for being talkative (A) or should I say typing too much

yah, I saw early pictures from users where the antenna-trace on the pcb was interrupted!!
In my case the wifi reception is weak, as compared to the A501 tab and the LG O2x phone. Weak, but very useable. It gets reception in the same areas of house as the other devices, but the % or db are lower.

Just few imp. Questions ...
- First how improved is tegra 3 compared to tegra 2, does it lag whatsoever or is it a smooth experience?
- Second does the prime in any occasion reboots on its own (I don't mean freeze and u reboot it just reboots out of the blue)??
- Does the tablet over all gets hot I mean u feel it warm in ur hands or even really hot?
- last thing how good is the built quality, does it creak or doesn't feel solid or is it really a premium quality tablet?
That's all thnx in advance

*I have only noticed lag on flash-heavy websites, I get some lag on my laptop (core i3) on same sites... Mind you, I don't play games on the tablet, cant say how it would perform. Email, video, music, browsing are all way better on the tablet than on any other device ive ever has my hands on. With the added bonus of instant on.
*I might have had a random reboot on the tf201, on a previous version of the firmware, stock rooted. Random reboots are a non-issue. System uptime at time of writing is 449hrs, no lags, no fc's, no reboots. Next OTA update could screw that up totally, of course...
*I usually keep it in a sleeve/envelope, hard to tell reg heat, sorry. It has never felt truly hot, i guess it might become lukewarm from time to time...
*Build qual if top notch. Nothing flimsy about the thing. The A501 also feels nice though, except for the plastic cover for sdcard, and i hate those chrome buttons that feel too loose. The tf201 feels so light and slim, yet at same time solid as a rock. Sounds corny, but you'll know what i mean when you hold it first time.
Hth,
Tom.
Thanks man that was really useful and just what I wanted to hear
I currently have finals so no time to go replace my iconia with prime, but that will be first thing to do next month
