Tab powers off when I leave it. WTF? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

A couple days ago I came home to find the tab powered off. This even though I left it on from the night before. When it booted it still had 34% battery.
Last night I left it charging and when I came home from work today it was powered off again! Even though it was plugged in.
Also, the wi-fi locked up completely twice the first day I used it.
Should I exchange it for a new one or does everyone experience these problems? I'm about 7 days in my BestBuy return period. I might return anyway because it's $100 cheaper at Staples with that coupon in another thread.

I got the same issue..

I got the same issue too.. I got it from Staples.

Are you guys running a custom rom? It did not happen to me until I flashed to a different rom so I don't think its the device.

It must love you a whole lot then.

Yup, they are using unstable hacked 3rd party ROMs. What do you expect?
Stick with the stock ROM people its far superior to any 3rd party bug ridden ROM that out there right now.

I have 100% stock and have the same issues...
Mine has just done it again (which is why I jumped on here in the first place), but unfortunately it is not powering back up this time. Odd.

I am running stock. I haven't jailbroken it. It's never even been plugged into a computer.

I was getting this issue when running the previous Bonsai ROM, I would suggest trying the TouchWiz ROM, I haven't had any sleep issues with it.

set you wifi settings to always stay on even when the screen is off that worked for me.

Hero Locking up when on charge over night.

Hi
Anyone else had their hero lock up while on charge over night?
I have had it about 10 days and rooted it. Started getting slower and then 2 nights ago put it on charge before bed and in the morning it was totally non responsive and i had to pull the battery.
Decided root was not needed so I got the stock Rom from xda and flashed it back.
Now runs s9 much faster. great I thought.
Put it on charge again before bed yet again in the morning it was Locked.
Pulled the power and left it. 3 hrs later I pulled the battery it had totally drained it.
Been fine and fast all day so will let you know if it locks again.
White sim free model.

Update: Charged last night via usb from macbook and it was fine this morning.

I've had this on my stock t-mobile hero. I just assumed that an app was that runs in the background was causing it. For the life of me I can't remember the name of it, but I'm pretty sure it was a rss/news reader.
Sorry I'm so vague
I have NewsRob running. He has updated it twice in as many days so maybe that was it and now its fixed.
Will keep am eye on it.
Thanks
Russ
Found it, mine was called news buzz.
I am having this issue

[Q] Acer shuts down randomly

G'day
I am really getting fed up with the randon shutdowns after charging, my tab has never had a uptime of more then 2 days before shutting down. Anyone know what to do about this (besides going for an ipad2 ) ?

I also have this issue even after the recent update from acer...mine will randomly shutdown..mostly after charging for a period of time...at least once a day..hate it but lovin the tablet besides that

I've had this problem since day one (3 weeks ago) I thought I'd fixed it by switching off the GPS but nows its back. I even have trouble booting it as I have to hold the power button on for a few seconds more than once. Do you think we'll be getting a software fix or should I return it?
Mine has same issue, but seems more often since last update!!

not sure if I can help in the shutdown problem.
But regarding the booting/power on thing.... that's how we ALL turns our on....it required a 3-4 seconds holding in the power button
I believe the tablet has an auto shutoff that kicks in after 4-5 hours

Absolutely the same, even after the recent update from acer!
Well, I decided against the Acer, i ordered an Asus.
HC 3.1 is in reach now

Not true. I've never experienced this on my A500. The last time it was powered off was when I installed the update, and prior to that it was powered off by me a day or two after it was purchased. I've never come back to the device and had it completely off for no apparent reason.
I use a password login, I keep USB debugging turned on and my wifi is set on when the screen is on, off when not. I charge it every day during the day, and use it at least 2 hours total per day. I have a 32 GB MicroSD card installed.
It sits by my bed with the screen off, and not plugged in at least 9 to 10 hours every night, and it's the first thing I grab when I wake up to check my email accounts and news.
So, trust me, I'd notice if it turned itself off randomly...
I wonder if it's either a software conflict with some people's tablets or if there's a run of bad tablets out there?

I could give you a nightmare story of my Asus EEE netbook...
About 2 weeks before the warranty expired the left mouse button stopped working. I sent a support request through their site and it took them several days to respond. They responded with some initial troubleshooting issues. I sent back that it was definitely hardware and the button didn't even feel right. They took another few days to respond and told me to call the 800 #.
The 800# people had me email them a copy of my sales receipt, which I did. They waited until a day after my warranty expired and told me my warranty was expired and they wouldn't do anything for me.
I tried appealing and everyone ignored me. I'll never buy another Asus product. Previously I purchased around 30 of their motherboards a year for work, not anymore.
That's why I bought the Acer - didn't even have to think twice about it.
I also encounter the shut-down issue. It seems to occur after long periods of charging (say charging overnight). I've had a similar issue with certain ROMs on my Captivate - when the phone would hit 100% while charging it would shut down.
It's a bit annoying, but hasn't been a big issue. If my tablet has been sitting on a charger for 4+ hours it's usually because I don't have an immediate need for it.
Mine also turns off overnight after the update. Hope with next update it works properly and with 3.1.

i never had any problems before but the last 4 days it shut off twice and I notice that it did only after I had it chargin. Is it a really big problem guys? Not for me it takes what 20-25 secs to boot up? I can deal with it till 3.1 rolls out so as long as it doesn't shut off daily while I'm using it idc.

Any news on this problem? I'm almost at the point of returning mine but I think I'll try the factory reset first
just throwing in a me too... just bought my iconia yesterday after returning a galaxy tab 10 (which is THE sexiest tablet ever, but I really needed SD and USB w/o an adapter)... the weird part is everyone else here ties it to charging but mine just did it ten minutes ago and its been off the charger for 12 hours. I also have trouble with the web browser crashing and text selection sometimes is just broken... 3.1 can't come fast enough, and having owned a galaxy tab 10 for a day I can attest that 3.1 is quite a bit better.
i've had mine for nearly a month now, and it's only just started shutting down automatically last night. Happened a few times consecutively last night, and it's happened again about 10minutes ago when i just went to use it it was off, and i distinctly remember it still being on after i took it off charge this morning and put it in my bag.
Starting to become a little annoying especially if it continues to get worse.
Browsers shutting down for some sites. Java problem ?
+ 1
Its meanwhile a month ago since the last posting. Is a solution found ?
I use Dolphin 6.0.0 on Android 3.01 1.141.01 and for month's it worked perfect.
Today, it starts shutting down for some sites and indeed switching off java solves the problem. Same for stock browser. Its annoying that this happens without a clear trigger because it indicates an unstable system !
edit: sorry, wrong thread
just picked mine up yesterday and encountered this last night. Which is especially annoying since it was halfway through downloading the 350MB update when I went to bed.

So update to 3.1 - the official version has been out for over a month now, it is a lot more stable then 3.01 in my experience when it comes to web browsing. Just copy the correct update.zip to microsd, reboot with top vol rocker/power held, you got 3.1 without waiting for Acer to push ota to you.

[Q] shut down normally: now no power light or boot

I apologize in advance if there is a similar thread; I could not find one.
My EVO has been fine, no issues. I use it heavily every day. I'm running Cyanogen 7 nightly 147 (I think) and have been for 4 or 5 days. Using the Tiamat kernel running SMARTASS.
Last night I shut down around midnight with around 50% power. I plugged in the charger but don't remember if the charging light came on then. This morning there is no charging light and the phone won't boot. Tried long holding the power button, battery pulls, pulled the SD card (for lack of anything else to try). Nothing has had any effect.
Does anyone have other ideas? I'm at a loss. If it's dead, it sure chose a strange way to go. Any advice would be very appreciated. I need this thing for work and home. Many thanks.
Just after posting I went back to playing with different chargers and power button pushes. The white HTC logo flashed for a second and the phone vibrated but it went right back off. It's the first sign of life I've seen, but I can't get it to repeat or go further.
This happened to my sisters Evo when she first got it last summer. Luckily it was the battery and HTC shipped a new one for free. The warranty on the evo is 15 months so you can try and request a new battery!
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I have found one similar thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913258. So maybe it is a dead battery. Been getting amazing life recently, so it seems crazy that it would suddenly be dead. Is this common?
Any suggestions for going to the Sprint store with a rooted phone? Since it's a bad battery, they may not need to look at the phone once it boots. I haven't had to do this before, so I'm not sure what to expect.
if you do go to a sprint store, i would not let them keep the phone or even take it out of your sight. if that happens you may well find yourself unrooted. but thats just a guess. you can get on ebay or any other similar site and buy a cheap battery for less than $5. then if thats not the problem go from there. this same problem happened to me but luckily one of my friends also has an EVO so i just used his battery and my phone worked great. so i just bought a new battery
Thanks for the input. Headed to the Sprint store in a minute to see if a battery will solve it.
It was the battery. They tested in at the Sprint store and pronounced it DOA. They said they don't normally have spare batteries but they happened to have one, luckily. I was pretty grabby with the phone and didn't let it go for long. Once it started to boot I took it back and they never saw the Cyanogen screens.
Overall they handled it very well. I was impressed with how responsive they were. I was out of there in 10 minutes.

[Q] Phone over heating and draining the battery

Hi there,
I bought a Galaxy S3 in the beginning of July and it's been great. Everything running smoothly, no problems whatsoever, excellent battery life. I've been getting 10 hours or more most days - I could not have been happier.
The phone is exactly as I bought it from the shop, with the exception that I'm running Nova launcher instead of the stock launcher.
However, The phone downloaded an update in early August and since then I've been having problems. The phone is running as normal, then, for no apparent reason it gets insanely hot, seriously, I could probably iron a shirt with it if I wanted. This appears to drain the battery completely and the phone shuts down within an hour.
This is only happening since the phone downloaded the latest update, it never happened before that. Yesterday it didn't happen, I got the full day out of my phone, unplugged it at 8am and didn't have to plug it in until near 9pm. But most other days the phone is getting really hot at some stage between 11am and 1pm and the battery is dead within the hour. I haven't installed any new apps since before the last update.
Does anyone have any idea what this might be?? If you need any more information please let me know.
I'm running Android 4.0.4
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Its possible that ota update is not so good at it seems like and when you have running apps in background ( i assume). If i get your post correctly i asume that its ota update that causes your problems (correct me if im wrong) for more help go to s3 forums since this isnt s3 forum but samsung galaxy 3 one

Oh right, S3 again. And I was already wondering how the G3 could heat up that much by it's own components^^
Nevertheless I would recommend whereismydroidpower app.
oops! sorry guys, will repost.
thanks for the advice.

PSA for those suffering from early shutdown problem...

I bought my nexus 6p a few months ago second hand from swappa.com. I like others have experienced the early shutdown problem and at first i let it go however it continued to get worse and the battery would barely last my one hour ride to work. I decided to contact google just to see what would happen. I was sure my phone was out of warrantee which the tech support rep confirmed. I told her my situation and to my surprise she said that since this is a known problem, as a one time courtesy they will take back my phone and send me a refurb. Just wanted to share my story in case anyone else here is having a difficult time with this. I cant say yet whether or not i still have the problem but will report back after a few day sif anyone is interested. i'm sure the battery life will be better though.
edit: i even explained that i bought it second hand from sappa.com and thats why i am not the owner in their system. It seems the phone just needed to be originally purchased from them instead of a third party like a phone company.

Let us know how it all works out, how long it takes to get the refurbished one which I've heard can be a different color if that matters to you but should be the same capacity. Did they ask for a credit card in case they don't get the return unit?
I think I'd personally rather just change the battery first ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72934124&postcount=25 ) to see if it solves the problem without losing my 1.5 yr+ whole setup-dealing with restoring files that I did however backup but it's good to know Google has offered this one time courtesy since it's a real issue that a Google store device shouldn't have. My fingerprint sensor on my stock Nexus 6P is getting annoying slow too often ( for some it's stopped working entirely https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/nexus/vLbK8_TF7vE/27XCSnZvBQAJ ) so maybe I'll contact Google to see what they say - https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/7109524?hl=en&ref_topic=7084203.
I just installed the latest July 5 security patch update (this Build N2G48B of 7.1.2 took a long time to boot & still finishing update) which seems to have helped my fingerprint sensor speed so far but more time will tell..
to answer your questions, i ordered it the sunday before independence day and recieved it thurs. they used fedex 2 day shipping.phone is the same color and capacity. they put a hold on my credit card for almost 800 until they recieve the old phone back. battery life is substantially improved. I am so used to plugging the phone in every chance i get that i have not had a chance to see if it actually goes to 0% yet but i did get it down to about 15. ill post back in a few days to let you guys know if i still have the early shutdown with this refurbished phone
I did the same exact thing on Sunday, I got my phone on Swappa with Nexus protect that was transferred to me. The battery issue has become a serious issue sometimes dying at 50% so on Sunday google changed original owner in "google tools" to me so it appears as if I bought it from them and also issued me an out of warranty RMA. I placed the order yesterday once I got the funds for the hold ($588 for 64gb 6P) and the phone shipped today.

Thanks for starting this thread, did they send you a prepaid postage to return your device with your refurbished replacement?
Could you-everyone install AccuBattery as described in thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72934124&postcount=25 & tell us the battery health (mine is just 41-42% estimated capacity after >19 mo) of your refurbished replacement.. I would be very surprised if you still have an early shutdown problem with a healthy battery. The latest update seems to have improved my fingerprint sensor speed but still sluggish at times (yet still faster than entering the PIN).
Mine is a 64GB Silver Aluminium which is probably the most produced one so would likely get the same one in return but for others I've still heard you could get a different color like this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fCDOfljoQY
If I had more recently got the phone I'd be more psyched to contact Google first but after >19 months of data on it setup the way I like it I'm still leaning toward just replacing the battery by Monday with only an 1hr of downtime & monitor with AccuBattery but the more options to solve the issue the better.
They email you pre paid postage to print out and use and you can use the same box. Accubattery shows 87% health based on 2 sessions with 130% charged and 3908 mA

Good to know, hopefully you won't get anymore early shutdowns (for at least the next 12+ months anyway when its battery degrades & you've moved on to another device. Maybe the 87% will also go up some with more sessions data but it should be far better than the original battery.
I had an uninitiated reboot today at 100% because I had my N6P plugged into an external battery since I didn't want a potential shutdown while using voice navigation (among other apps) but at least it could reboot without further incident. I still think that could have been the degraded battery issue that can not keep up with the power demands of so many apps (even if plugged into a portable external charger-some apps which I closed after the uninitiated reboot).
Hopefully no one will be reporting early shutdowns & less uninitiated reboots after healthier batteries..
