Looks cartoony but it u never know

I, for one like it and this was needed very badly since the current Android Market just looks plain ugly.

I agree, I like the look of it in the videos.

eewww It kind of looks a little WP7'ish. I agree the market needs to be updated but not like this.
I still find the current android market alot easier to navigate and alot better then the amazon app store

I think it would be better if they used the home screen from this new market and then just used the rest of the market as it's already designed.
Google should be careful though.
Android, at least for phones, DOES need a more "finished" and "refined" look, that is one of it's faults, but they can't force it.

What does this mean for CM7 users? Will a new gapps be coming out or will we get the market update OTA?

The market updater "app" comes with gapps so it has it.
So yeah, it will OTA.

APK provided in OP courtesy of Redneck_Trash.

I like it, seems to run smoother/faster on my Evo. I can see the Metro UI'ish layout, but I like it.

I think I will keep my themed market over the new market.

Looks good to me, Thanks for the apk.

Thanks Matty! Design looks well. apk worked just fine too.

I hate to admit it, but the apps (or lack of quality ones) is where the market sucks.
iOS truly has that market (pun intended) cornered. Once jail broken, I'm close to enjoying my iPad as a daily driver.

i will agree with you that apples market is a bit better than androids but i also believe that it makes a difference when you have developers paying money to develop apps and with android you have a lot more ... open source. I believe another huge difference is that everyones iphones are the same all of our android devices are different it must be a little harder to code for that. BTW i am not a programmer just an aspiring network admin so i hate writing code
any who i like the new market the old themed markets Never seemed to look right or all that cool so this is nice that they refreshed it so much.

Installed and I like it better than the current market. Thanks for this

I agree, it just sucks. I got a smoking deal on an iPad or I would never know. My android tablet has so many fewer choices on tab specific apps. And the phone apps I see...no comparison. I really, really want android to catch up.

Just upgraded ... This market it's really nice, easier to navigate...

I honestly think it looks damn amazing

Thanks anyways

The iphone is one cheap silicone case away from being very very good hardware. Just buy an iphone (and a cheap case) if you want ios.
why would anyone in their right mind want to poison their evo with apple's software???
No is just good to have different things on a phone
What is it about iOS4 that you can't get on the EVO/Android? My brother has the iPhone4, & there is nothing he has that i couldn't find in the Marketplace.
If you're looking for something specific, i'm sure you can find an Android version of it.
Don't kill the OP
Come on guys, it's a legit question (even if it might seem pretty blasphemous to us). As for the original question, if you want to dual boot, there's potential to put any Open Source OS on just about any hardware. If you want to have a closed source OS (like iOS, WinMo, WebOS, Blackberry OS [oh dear God WHY?!], Mac OSX Leopard, etc...) on your hardware, you'll pretty much have that pre-installed on the device. That's why you can put Android onto the HTC HD2, but you can't put WinMo 6.5 on the EVO 4G.
Bottom line, if you want iOS4 + Android, you'll have to buy an iPhone if you even want a chance. I don't think they have it working yet, but I know they've ported Froyo to the older hardware, so it might just be a matter of time.
Forum reeks of fanboyism. Simple question required a simple answer. The evo is far from a perfect phone... If that was the case.. I wouldn't have to root it and play tricks on my battery just to make it last longer than 5 hours. Android wouldn't be where it is today if it wasn't how iOS changed the way we look at smart phones. And apps that aren't on the android? bejeweled 2, angry birds, words with friends, a half decent facebook app, espn score center is terrible on the droid as well... I could go on... Both phones have their flaws.but I can see why the interest in wanting a dual boot phone. more than likely not happening anytime soon if not at all.

right, out of the 85k apps in the market place, absolutely none of them are good for anybody whatsoever, which explains why no one downloads anything from the market anymore, and also explains why android is definitely not catching up to iOS.

You know, you don't have to be an Apple fanboy (or girl) to want to see if this can be done. It's like trying to solve a puzzle. I really wouldn't want an iphone, but hacking iOS4 onto an Android phone would be fun. And, there are some apps for the iphone that don't exist in the Android Market.
BTW, I have a Dell Mini 9 that runs Snow Leopard just fine. Am I in love with Apple? Not really, though I have an iMac, as well as Windoze boxes and Linux, too. I'm posting from Linux on my dual boot Aspire One, wirelessly tethered to my Evo. I think I'm gonna try the Ubuntu hack for my Evo next. It's all about choices.

"You are by far my best component"!?
Lol. What does that even mean?
There is no point arguing with a apple fanatic, its like arguing with a rock.
Maybe if you throw in works like "wonderful", "fantastic" ,"incredible", "awesome"...
lol at "sketchy" and "bit laggy", thats so non-technical and abstract coming from a nerd. (probably never even tried a nexus)
Otherwise you should have showed him:
your battery,
your sd card,
a ps-ef from a shell (sh, bash etc),
your ability to use any working SIM,
navigation, voice recognition,
your ability to hold the phone any way you want

I agree on all of the above. I was going to say, at one point, "at least I don't have to put duct tape on my phone to call people" xD, but decided to leave that out. And - another thing - even a Jailbroken iPhone is barely customizable. It was late and I didn't want to mention that, because I would have stayed up for another hour arguing with him. I would have, too, if it wasn't so late. xD
It makes me laugh when Apple fanboys say that a Mac can run Windows 7. Then why the f*** did you get a mac? lol. I've stopped arguing with Apple fanboys for the reason that britoso mentioned.
lol iOS4. finally caught up to what winmo and android could have already done.

Shun the non believer! Shunnnn! Shunnnn!
xD
The iPad is too bulky, imo. I'd rather carry around my laptop. And I do.
And Mac's aren't that bad, they got some super sweet media editing software, that I love using. But still.
I have no qualms with any Mac computer...I think the OS is slick...I'm just real nitpicky and I honestly hate the lil dock bar (good for looks, but nothing more, give me a taskbar anyday over a dock bar) and I also LOATH the finder bar...give me the menu in EACH and EVERY app...many other things I just don't like...and many things it does indeed do better though...I do not like the explorer either...(same with Ubuntu btw, but that's customizable to an extent so a non issue)
The main appeal of Android IMO is it's desktop like feel....Especially with ADW or LauncherPro installed...no sea of icons can beat that IMO.
I love that everyone thinks they're "a hacker" because they can complete a three-click jailbreak.
Although I will say that the same applies on the Android side. Rooting and flashing a custom ROM based on instructions found on the internet doesn't make anyone a hacker either. The hackers are the ones that did it first.
Well, Technically, all a Hacker is, is someone who is taking something and making it do something that it wasn't meant to do. And android was meant to do bloody well everything. So there's not much hacking going on here, is there ;D
Yea I'm still new to Android but I was able to whip up heavily customized versions of the latest Windows Mobile build in no time. Even Windows Mobile gives you more choices when it comes to user interface and tasks.... it just runs ****ty and ugly (although the later builds are coming around).
Nothing beats Android though. I tell all my friends and family that have iPhones that "Android is like an iPhone on crack"
Wow.
Just wow.
p.s. (It's just a phone you have no stake in)
harrisonfordwhogivesa****.gif
But wait.. the iPhone 4 does have the most advanced antenna design ever. It's "revolutionary."
Oh, and you should've told him that you don't have to kill your warranty to tether for free.. or pay 99 cents for a flashlight app.
LOL, sour apples doesn't have a clue!

[CLOSED/G2] G2 & Android: Evolution through leaps and bounds.

I'm definitely looking forward to root and ROMs being ported to the G2. I have been using custom ROMs like Cyanogen's mod for quite some time now on my G1, and now that I am without; it has become blatantly obvious that it's the little things that transform quality products into luxury products. Thanks to everyone's work, we are watching the definition of luxury in the making. With every new technology that comes out, and every new line of code the developers and awesome community coders write we are watching the evolution of our devices progress. Can't wait to see how this great phone will fly once I get it away from stock. I'm already interested in the new things that are slowly being discovered about it. As some sit and complain that they aren't getting what they paid for, others are going on an adventure finding out whatever they can from a new product. Its like a giant puzzle that people all over the world are working together to figure out. How interesting it would be if they actually took advantage of situations like this and all the energy that follows them to create fully immersive viral advertising campaigns. I mean everyone who is following the developments of the G2 are putting so much emotion into it all. Whether it's positive or negative we are watching the community come together as a whole, and it's pretty amazing. Whether or not there really are lasting issues with the memory or other parts of the phone, I am enjoying the dynamic of our teamwork to figure it all out.
I'm right there with you bro. This phone will have crazy developer support, I can't wait to see what happens. Things can only get better especially with support from cyanogen.

I kind of agree. I'm more annoyed that rooting is the only way to get screenshot/wifi tether privileges..
If those two things were incorporated already (booooo Google & T-Mobile) I probably wouldn't root. I find android pleasantly customizable even without the theming options.
you can capture screen shots without root
i followed the instructions at this link (for the Droid) and works great
you'll need to download the SDK developers kit and the Java developers kit but they're both linked in the instructions and your phone will have to be connected to your PC, but once you've done the download, you'll end up with a shortcut icon on your desktop taking you straight to the screen capture function screen

Obviously I meant without using a computer and having to use the SDK. That's a lot more hassle than it should be.
once we have tablets with USB we should be able to put sdk on them(hopefully) and play with our toys using our other toys

WEll I was blaming Google for the Screen Shot limitation... but yeah.

Why is it so hard to hack the samsung devices?

Im curious to know, samsung devices always take longer in developing roms, htc devices are super fast and get the roms within weeks, im seriously considering buying a galaxy s 2 but im sure samsung will put their HORRIBLE iphone wannabe ui touchwiz in it , and i wanna get rid of it ASAP ,why do rom development takes longer? is it because not that many developers have samsung devices or because they are just harder to hack?
There is no cracking, perhaps we can say hacking...
And HTC devices were the ones choose by google to run a dev rom (on nexus 1), now it's samsung...
Just wait..
And, touchwiz is far far from iphone ui, and on any device you can choose another launcher, in the market, without any "cracking".
And, that thread is a question... so it should be in...? In....? Questions !!!! Yeeees ! First learn how to search, read, only after that you can "crack"..

This should be in Q&A.
Samsung ROMs are much harder to developer for because Samsung took Android and changed everything they could get away with. All the internals of the Android system has been changed in some way. This is why the guys porting CyanogenMod have run into a spot of trouble. Also HTC phones have been on the market much longer then the Galaxy S so there all fairly similar which speeds up the development process.

Im sorry... but i dont think its that similar to the iphone UI
I know the application menu is similar....but there is only so much you can do with that set up...Plus you can change the way you view your apps in the galaxy s...
Also the camera..... seriously apple did not create that design....i had a LG touchscreen phone before the iphone came out ( im pretty sure about that lol) that had a similar camera interface to that....saying samsung stole that from apple is ridiculous.
Some aspects are similar but the interface is hardly a rip-off

Yeah I'm all about the list view, it's at least alphabetic unlike that messy grid. It takes a bit to whip from top to bottom, but all I really do in there is get at things I hardly ever use or fetch something to put on a home screen.

So using your logic the iPhone ripped off the UI from Blackberry, right? Apps on the home screen, notification bar on the top...
Samsung has a phone that is actually easy to hack. No signed firmware, no trick needed to load anything.
But it seems the HTC devices have a larger community. Not strange, because the first Android phone was a HTC, and the original users and hackers have probably moved on to another HTC.
I do not know the mood in other forums, but I feel that plays a part too. Developing is something to do together, not something that a person does because others are demanding it or anything. Also something to be rewarded for (thanks, updates, extensions, people writing documentation and translations, etc).
I think with a better community we could figure out the possibilities of the command line of the SBL and maybe even boot images from external SD. Like done on the Kathrein satellite receiver where a third boot loader is used in place of a normal kernel, and that can load from external storage. And a better community will protect against shouters that say 'you killed my phone'.
However it is like it is. Not because it is impossible, but because of some other reason. Probably mostly consumers, and not hackers, are buying this phone. Because there is not a strong community, it doesn't have the mind share.

New Android Market

Upgrade hasn't rolled out, but look forward to this soon!

Windows 7 Google Phone Market - Coming Soon!

I'd like a market that doesn't forget my downloads and break my links. Other than that, they can make it look like 1998 Geocities page for all I care.
What's up with all the hating on the new design? That's just the page that opens up the first time! Who knows what the rest of the market is like and how they sort and list their apps. I'm just saying don't be so quick to judge it.
I'd like a market where you can get rid of the god damn pay apps that are utterly useless or don't use or ever plan to use again.
For instance.. OpenHome.. It's old crap and no one uses it anymore yet it contributes to "My Apps" clutter. I have a decent collection of pay crap I simply don't use, and don't ever intend to use again.. In 2 years our "My Apps" list is going to be stupidly long and a burden. Google needs a "Delete from account" option.

It's funny, because there are a lot of people that think WinPhone7 looks great (I being among them) but it is certainly a polarizing design. There are many people that you do, indeed, speak for. Nobody seems to be in the middle, that's for sure. You love it or you hate it.
