Home launcher - Flipside General

Anyone know if I can uninstall the stock home launcher after switching over to a better launcher. Even frozen with titanium, stock launcher still starts, sucking up my battery and processor.

Just use titanium backup to delete it once you have the other installed...
Make sure you have a home app... or else it'll hang your phone and you'll be learning how to use rsdlite

I installed launcher pro. That's the best I've liked. Learning rsdlite is no biggie as I had to use it 3 times already when following instructions elsewhere here on removing/freezing motocrap. Thanx for the info.

Launcher problem

I'm running nero v3 with voodoo, and having a weird issue. Don't believe it's the rom though. Anyway, I've noticed I now have a program called launcher running when I go to task manager, and if I close it, all my icons on my maun page disappear, and it loads the stock icons. Even with a reboot, it boots the stock icons. It's a pain because I have to put my icons back. Any idea what's going on?

You should always have some sort of "launcher' running. Thats what controls the app drawer and everything else. Dont kill it.
Yeah, but it wasn't running when I first instilled the rom. I trend to close things with task manager, and I sometimes accidentally close it. Is there a way to get back my icons if I do?

Do you mean you have customized icons instead of he stock ones?
You should always have a launcher active.

No, I just mean I place beautiful widgets, and all the icons I normally use, and when I accidentally close launcher, all icons I placed on my desktop are gone, and I have to place them all back. It's a pain. I know I should just not kill the launcher, but I accidentally close it when I close other programs.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Okay, now my icons come back when I close launcher. Weird, but just glad I don't have to place them again.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
If you only have one launcher and kill it with tasker operations on launcher will forced to start again. Install backup launcher with your widgets as well ; )
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Launcher is like touchwiz. It is the interface. If you kill it it wilk have to start again and takes more battery.
Nero v3 does not have tw unless you dl that version.
So you are not allowing the interface controlling your os to be there. Your essentially killing the controls to ur phone.

[Q] Would like to uninstall LaunchPro on Blue Sparks V4 [2.1 rom]!

I wish I could directly post this question on the Blue Spark thread, but I can't, newbie, less than 10 posts!
Anyway, I installed this rom last night, and I want to uninstall LaunchPro that comes with it. The author installed it as system app, and I don't know how to uninstall it or is it safe to do so.
Maybe you can try installing another home app first and then uninstall the launcher pro. I've been using Go launcher Ex lately. I think its better than launcher pro. Hope this helps.
Sent from my rooted stable 2.1 x10a with dual touch using XDA App.
You can uninstall it but as the guy above said, you need another home app, as once you uninstall it i think i am right in saying that you wont be able to bring up the menu.
Im also using blue sparks as my main rom, and at first i wasnt a big fan on launcher pro but i got used to it and ended up buying the full version
Thanks
thanks guys!
any recommendation on the home app?
Could try ADW on market, you might like that better

thanks mate, i installed Go Launcher at the end, android market just won't download anything. Go Launcher is not bad, i like how they categorize the apps section.

Problems with every rom

I've tried many different roms such as jvo, jvh, jvp and jvq. I've tried darkys, juwes, gingerreal , f1, insanity and miui but they all have these problems after the phone has been 'up' for over a day. When I exit a game using home or back my launcher restarts.

The same game and the same launcher always : maybe are not compatible.

You are using tw launcher ? If not, you should check your task killer program. Maybe you got the option "stAy in ram". If yes, choose it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175514&highlight=launcher+restarts
I havent tried the stuff in this thread but it is interesting, and on the second page, there is a posted .apk that apparently solves it..
Like saphirrot said, if the launcher has a 'stay in mem' option, check it. I've done that with Launcher Pro and the launcher restart happens far far less.
It's just android freeing up ram for the game. It's a pain in the ass but better than not being able to run a game because of low memory.

I use super manager or astro manager. They have app managers and allow you to install .apk files. Super manager is great if you have root access as you can uninstall bloatware apps like aldiko, layar etc. Make sure to backup app just in case anything goes wrong.

I use AppInstaller. Very simple.
Thanks guys I installed the apk and my launcher no longer restarts but apps still close even when I go off them using the home button so I can return to them in a minute and be where I left it. Is there any apk for this as it is frustrating when you go off an app for a minute only to find it's closed when u go back on it.

Actually the apk hasn't worked. Launcher is still rebooting when I go back to the home screen.

Nothing is wrong. It's running out of memory. Android shall release background tasks if foreground tasks need the memory. Since Gingerbread, you can no longer force most things to stay in memory so those features are mostly useless these days. Should have kept to one ROM and asked your question in its thread. Too many things to suggest to tune it properly really. Uninstalling system apps you don't use and trying different kernels are your last options.

This is completely unacceptable then, you can't even multitask. And after the phone has been 'up' for over 12 hours you can't even keep the dialer in memory! There must be a way around this. A smartphone should not take over 3 seconds to open the dialer.

I have never seen this problem before, and since it so several I have to assume that if other people had it, they would have posted about it.
That means that it is either due to a problem with your hardware, or due to something you are installing/configuring. I would do a full factory default then add apps back very slowly, one by one, doing some basic testing in between. That way you may be able to isolate the problem.
If it still happens right after the factory reset, take the phone to a service center.

I have seen people talk about it but the answers are since gingerbread apps get closed because of memory meaning that the dialer doesn't even stay in memory after the phone has been booted.for a while.

How do I delete unwanted apps from nook cm7

Just wondering how I can remove messaging, phone, and camera from my girlfriends nook on cm7 running from sd card. I cant find the system apps bookmark like I can on any other phone/tablet
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Answer.
To bring that back, you hold on the screen, tap on Launcher Actions, tab Open/close App Drawer, and there you go! Access to your apps, where you can delete them!
Thanks for the answer but I meant delete them permanently from the nook. The phone app just wastes battery and since you cant message and take pics she wants em gone

If you are rooted I would suggest installing TI (Titanium Backup-free) and freeze the app. Sometimes nuking out apps that have interdependency can create problems. Freezing the app in TI should accomplish what you desire safely.
I believe the phone app was proven to not use the battery?
Like cell standby and phone idle under battery use was false.
Oh thanks to the both of you ill do the titanium backup thing but does it remove it from the app drawer?

Gosh. Been a while since I froze an app. I don't believe so. But as it's frozen, unless you have a butt-load of apps and scrolling through them is an issue, it really shouldn't matter. IMO.
Well to me it doesnt matter but my girlfriend is just ocd enough to care lol

My wife is the same way, and was getting irritated that they were in her way. I ended up installing Go Launcher EX and then was able to create a Folder in the App Drawer called SYSAPPS. I put all the unwanted system apps in there and they were out of her way. Cleaned the app drawer up nicely. Not sure if another launcher will do that, but knew Go Launcher could. She likes it now.

Using LauncherPro, you can hide any app you want. Just go
"Preferences->General Settings->Hidden Apps", choose the ones you want to hide, tap "save" and they're out of your way.
No need to go through switching launchers. or creating new catalogs. if you freeze them with titanium backup, they will disappear from the app drawer.
Don't turn off google talk, even if you don't use it. google talk must be working in order for the market to function. some other apps, if they arent installed, will filter the availability of certain apps in the market, although I am not sure if that is effected by freezing or not.
On a side note, I have read the threads about the telephone and message apps supposedly not effecting battery life, and they do spins reasonable, but I an beginning to question if theyv are right. I definitely have processes related to unused phone apsa running on my nook using memory.
The android.telephony process is shown to be running in several running apps lists, and is using 2.3 MBA of ram. I am just starting to wonder, is all...
I use both methods mentioned previously. Organize my app drawer using Go Launcher and freeze, as well as backup apps with Titanium. It's also well worth the money if you like to try different roms or tinker but don't want to loose your apps or their data.

Apps to new rom

Is there a way to keep your apps the same place that they are on your home screens on a new rom.

Not that I know of. A new ROM completely changes everything (UI) on your phone, so app placement wouldn't be possible.

Well if you use a different launcher like Buzz launcher, Nova probably has it, you can backup your launcher layout and save it to your ExtSd card. Then after flashing a new Rom and reinstalling the launcher you can move the backup back to the launcher folder in the phone and go into the launcher settings and restore. You might have to tap to reload some.
If you use Zooper Widget or UCCW widgets on your Homescreen then you'd also want to back those up also externally so you can move them back to phone after the wipe and Rom install.
I haven't tried it with just app shortcuts as I use widgets but I imagine it would be the same as long as you restored your apps back with titanium.
For instance I've switch around from negalite , triforce, sacs and restore the same Homescreen on all of them, and others, I flash around a lot.

Would it matter if the ROM is tw based or aosp based? I think they handle home scene differently.

I had issues with cm and pacman but it was awhile back and not sure if it was 3rd party launcher issues but maybe it was. pretty sure I was ok on aokp because I really liked that one but I just get better connections with tw roms. So far. Still learning.

Not sure if you can on the stock launcher but in Buzz and nova it will be in those launchers settings. Look for Backup/Restore. It will save it in that launchers folder in the internal 'emulated' sdcard. It will probably be in a folder labeled backup and be a bak file. Just copy & paste to your ExtSd because you'll lose it when you wipe your phone. You can do the same thing if you use Widgetlocker, UCCW and Zooper then you dont have to rebuild those either. After reinstalling your apps you'll have to copy the files back into their folders under the emulated/0 internal sdcard.
Again I don't think you can backup the stock launcher but I suppose you could take screenshots of it to remember how you placed everything.
I highly recommend Buzz launcher, also if you get tired of your layout and don't want to make another, you can just download someone's else's right through the Homepack feature in the settings.
